I found this bugger as 30RNG/15NIN after we had done Promyvion-Mea. Fight was easy, and I got "the drop".

I just remember Widescanning for elementals, and seeing the name...
"WTF is a Serpopard Ishtar?"
"I think it's a Dhalmel NM or something"
"BEST DHALMEL NAME EVER."

I'm beginning to love my LS

I got the chance to fight this bad boy a couple of nights ago, but being only a lvl 17 RDM, I died. So I was talking with the guys in my LS about the NM and how it brutely killed me. A high level WHM from the LS who I've never talked to before came to my rescue riding a chocobo. He raised me and I got to watch him as he avenged my death. After the battle, he offers a trade with me, so of course I accepted, not knowing what he was about to give me. I then received an earth crystal, a dhalmel meat, and a dhalmel hide. Now at the time, I didn't know anything about the pendant so I thought nothing of it. The next morning, I stopped by my mog house to get rid of some overcollected items and check my box from any AH sales. What do ya know, the pendant is sitting in there waiting for me. Even for a not so rare item, it was all smiles. :)

Solod it as a DRG20/BRD8 (Don't ask...it's a good combo if you know how to use it), while I was leveling off Dhalmels.

I just ran up to it and jumped, didn't even realize it was the NM, lol. Wyvern tanked most of the fight, whenever I took damage I used Healing Breath II, went pretty quick. Got the pendant and 72EXP :)

Ok here is my little horror story from last night that ended with this guy.

I'm leveling my war in Quifm and things are slow at best. My pt keeps going AFK and I'm pulling like one mob every 5 minutes because of all the breaks everyone has to take. So I disband and get killed running back to Jeuno. My HP is Delkfutt's Tower so I run back again. Wight kills me a second time.
/Sigh

I finally get to Jeuno and sell my old Lizard gear on the AH because I hit level 21 today. I head off toward Sandy to check the price on a Great Axe I need. I stop in Jugner to help some one who was being chased and I save him, but a tiger aggros and kills me>>delevel, no armour now.

Ok, no more of that... So I decided to go farm around Windy so I can get the 50xp I need to level up again and I run into Ishtar out of the blue. Well, its an NM so I have to fight it, right?

Wrong... Shoulda not done it. I pop a Fish Mithkabob (all I have on me), and grab him. My axe skill is capped mind you. First weapon skill misses horribly (ahh!)... waiting for TP, hit it again with WS and it takes crazy damage but not enough and he kills me. I only needed one more hit on him...

Now I'm way below my level 21 with no armour and I had to give up for the night because I'm so furious. I shoulda left him alone, the drop wasn't worth the xp I lost.
/cry

First sighting of a NM
# Oct 25 2004 at 8:05 AM Rating: Decent
This was the first NM I'd come across. I was partying with a BLM I'd met a while earlier, going after Dhalmels when I noticed the peculiar name of the one he had started to target. Unfortunately my cries of 'Stop! Notorious Monster' were too late as he'd already started casting. Old Serpopard killed him in about four hits.

We were both 16, so maybe there was a chance we could have taken it on but it didn't look likely from the damage I saw my partner taking. And I thought 'Strength impossible to gauge' simply meant it was off the scale compared to us.

Still, we got a raise and carried on happily.

I see many people confuse this. "Impossible to gauge" just means its a Notorius Monster. I checked this and several other NMs I was higher than (Bloodpool Vorax, Stray Mary, Leaping Lizzy, Bughi Howlblade and Spiny Spipidy) as well as several that could own me (Bloodtear Baldorf, Serket, Steelfleece) and they ALL check "Impossible to gauge"... 48WHM/24BLM by the way ;)

So, once upon a time I was running about the Windy area, headed to Bubu. Pennisula as a level 10 THF, intent on getting a different (and hopefully better) levelling experience than the Dunes usually has to offer. My LFG flag was up when I happened upon this guy. As is usually the case, I knew I was far too low of a level to take him (I only see rams in Konschtat when I'm too low and now this guy...)

I didn't even know that there *WAS* an NM Dhamel in this area, but as is usually the case when I'm too low to take a big baddie that someone else might want, I /shouted {Please check it} Serpopard Ishtar <pos> {Notorious Monster} and continued on my way.

Suddenly, I get a random invite from this anonymous ninja (i think...) and she starts pounding the mob. I accepted the invite and see her in party macros=> she's Japanese. So while she's pounding this guy for 60 and 70 damage per hit, I'm barely scratching him (10 damage per hit at MOST).

It was all over in a matter of seconds. Ishtar didn't drop anything but dhamel hides, but then again, I didn't know at the time that he *SHOULD* drop anything else. I passed on both items and bowed, disbanding. =^.^=

This pendant, does it go for much? I may try my hand at good ole' Ishtar again...

I took this guy solo level 31 WAR while farming. Someone decided to shout, "Hey look at this guy!" He was trying to level and said "How hard is he?" to me. I said, "Aw, I can take him no sweat." HE said, "Cool! Imma watch!"

The dhalmel was gone very quickly. The noob was like, "AWESOME!" I just /grin'd at him and continued farming as if nothing happened.

No drop, though ;_;

i ran into this guy farming air elements the other day and lvling marksmanship on goblins. I saw it and asked my friend how tough it was....he didn't know....so i pulled up my lvl 40 ranger pants up, switched to my newly acquired battle bow+1 slapped in a horn arrow for good luck and let an Eagle Eye Rip.... i figured be safest considering i didn't know how tough it was. Well of course i slapped him for a good 771 damage and he fell straight to the ground. No pendant tho, got 2 hides and a piece of meat. There is treasure hunter for you.

I was farming dhalmels when i came across this guy last night. I was just running around looking for the next dhalmel when this thing popped in front of me at H-8. I started laying into it when I discovered this thing had a weird name. Got the pendant, and it was my first non-quest NM kill ever. Gotta start somewhere right?

I killed this guy today as 19DRK/9WAR. I saw him while running to Windurst. It was fairly easy, I did use Blood Weapon. I got 120xp, but no drop. Drop sucks anywys, lol. So it could be a little higher than 20, considering the xp i got.

'little higher than 20'?

120 puts it RIGHT AT LV20.

72-DC-One level below you
100-EM-Your level
120-T-One level above you.

19+One level above 19=20. -_-"

for this guy i've seen him twice took him down the second time. Firstime i was still kinda new and thought all NM's were hella tought. i was lvl 20 rdm then and passed on him. Both times i seen him pop at the zone next to the Meriphated(SP?) Mountains. never seen him anywhere else but usually i'm just passin through to Windy.

Also for this perhaps he was Zoned into the maze by some low lvl player?

It was funny I was trying to raise money by selling dhalmel parts <bones, and hides> and I keep on slashing away at any that I see. All of the sudden I start fighting one that seems stronger than the others. It was him! Got the drop but rather worthless!

Ran into it on a chocobo while going to jeuno, i jumped off and took it on at probably level 25, i was low in hp and i took it down to 1/4, and another dhamel came to its aid, i ended up killing both of them with about 90 hp to spare. No drop whatsoever, wasnt worth jumping off my chocobo.

I was looking for Paparka grass for the Windurst quest and killing any Dhamel I saw. I was in H-6 and I ran up and hit one. It ended up being this guy. It was an easy fight with me being a 32 MNK/ 16 WAR and didn't even get hit once. No drop, not even Paparka grass.
