Vana'diel Bestiary: Spiny Spipi  

When i first started this game... in my noobish days... i was in Valkurm Dunes and took the ship to Mhaura from Selbina. I walked area to area... i was lost in East Sarutabaruta. It was the first crawler i ever saw. I thought it looked cool and fought it. Little did i realize, it was Spiny Spipi. I had to Mighty Strikes it. It wasn't until then i realized it was a notorious monster. ^^

If you farm the items mentioned above he is a nice added bonus

1/7 Annoying as hell to camp

Fought Spiny today (I-7). 31 rdm/thf killed him in less then 30 secconds. Didnt wait too long for pop either mabee half an hour. I only got silk thread from it. Didnt notice what day it was. hope this helps!

well one day i was going to lvl thf and seen what i thought was a crawler (ps thf is lvl 9)
but when i walked up and started hitting it i was getting tore apart and i noticed it was spiny spipi or w/e well i got killed poped back on got war which is lvl 30 and didnt have time to grab DRK lvl 35 i didnt even have time to change equip well i ran back out there and it was still there!!! well lucky me claimed killed and got the drop and a added silk thread:)

I've only seen this twice in my gaming time.
First time I was a low lvl player and was not sure if I could solo it.

The seound time I saw it before others did and clamed it.

But no mist cape drop :(

NO lie me and another lvl 6 along time ago killed this thing while trying to lvl up his galka war and my whm :P we both almost died but i used 2 hr took and hate and was like 20 hp left it was alot of fun but this was back in the day when i didnt really know anything about the nms only bad thing was no drop :(

I know that having wide scan helps a TON while camping any NM. I was wondering... seeing i have yet to acheive a level 30+ job would it still be possible for me to camp Spiny with success?

On Asura theres some poeple who camp this almost every day for an easy 80k...

A few tips from what I've noticed, after getting about 10 capes and killing it about 20 times...

I generally don't see Spiny just sitting around unless someone else is in the area killing crawlers (namely myself), it generally takes about 2 hours for each pop to occur, but I believe before some of the updates the pop time was as wide as 30 minutes to 2 and a half hours.

Basically I kill this when I'm bored and no one else is in the general area. Best pop time I got was about 6 minutes... I ran out of Windy, killed every crawler in the area and waited. next time crawlers would spawn it popped.

So I think this guy is a lotto pop , but only after about a 2 hour delay.

As for what to kill him with to get drops... I've killed Spiny as a lvl 36 Whm, (using spells and such) and gotten a cape, been lvl 25 thf and gotten the cape once and not gotten the cape another time.

My favorite however was lvl 9 monk with 300% tp.
Just combo this sucker and 2 hour him, combo again, etc. goes down easy like that (as a hume), and seemed to give a bit of a better drop rate since I was lower lvl.

I typically just go as 32THF/RNG, kill crawlers and check widescan while killing things.

And I suggest not bothering if there are alot of people there. >< from what I've seen, some nights are bad occasionlly and other nights, its empty. Don't get angry at the 5 other people there.. go read or something. Its really not heavily camped on my server.

As for prices I've sold about 7 of them I think, from about 40K to 50K. the price right now its 70K >< and i gave away the last 2 I got.

I'd rather see this cape price stay low than get jacked up like everything else.

I'm about to go see how well a lvl 8 RNG does with this. ^^.. EES and 300% tp Hotshot..

Oh and I've never noticed anything weird about the moon phases or anything on its drops or spawns.

So a lvl 8 RNG can't kill it. I did sharpshot,^^ EES for 100, 300% tp Hotshot for 46 damage. Then I died. ^^
I was going to give the cape to this JP player I met, if I killed it, but instead I told them the pos of Spiny before I died. He/she got the drop ^^.

I camped this baby the last 3 days. In the morning from 8AM to about 1PM every day. Usually with 2-4 other campers there, and of course some with their WS ^^. 5-6 of the claims I had I did them with a dear friend of mine ^^. I pretty much claimed all the of pops there was during that time. 12 times I claimed the sucker it was no problem, although I did have little argument with one of the other campers who felt bad about me camping the same NM as him ^^. Got a drop of the second one (gave that to a friend) and of the 12th one (and gave that to another friend). In addition to this info I have posted I'd like to ask a question aswell. I was told that using magic against this fiend would reduce the chances of a Mist Silk Cape drop. This is just a rumour isn't it?

I saw it yesterday for the first time, while i was lvling my lvl 9 nin. But i knew i won't be able to kill it by myself, so i called my rommies to help me out. Then this one other high lvl guy was right behind me, so i have to attack him, and pray i'll live til my rommie arrive, well..... i die, and the other dude killed him.

So i went home got my thf and come back out 2 hours later (people say it spawns every 2hours) Waited in the area for half an hour, till didn't spawn. So i started to hunt for Cawlers. After i killed two cawler in the area, i saw the Spiny in my Ranger scaner, so i Flee over there right away, and killed it. Lucky, i got the silk cap with my lvl 30 thf.

I camped this 2 times and ran up on it by accident wen a lvl 8 Sam was takein it down rippin it apart and died i got off my chocobo and killed it drop and now im 4/5 on him hehe guess im just lucky. ^_^

When i was leveling my warrior, to sub for my ninja, to sub for my thief, i came across Spini Spipi. It was fairly late at night, so i was a little out of it at the time, so i ran up to it thinking it was a regular crawler and faught it. I wasnt really paying attention to the fight, cuz i figured i'd win anyway, and when i checked it just in case, it said Spini Spipi's strength is impossible to gauge! And seeing that i was going to die (lv7 war) i shouted "Spini Spipi <pos> (Do you need it?). Well i died and came back as my THF and it was still there, so i killed it, no drop, and i was wondering why noone had claimed it. probably thought i was trying to throw the campers off, well its their loss XP
