I had so much fun with this battle. The party was just five of us.

25 Monk <-- me as Vykk
25 Warrior <--Neverborn
25 White mage <--Kiar
25 Warrior
25 can't remember what

the plan was for me to use my 2 hr on the spotter, one warrior provoke the dragon, but still fight the Spotter instead (seeing as we had no blm for sleep) then 2 hour the dragon after spotter is dead. We showed up in the room and I immediately rushed in and started attacking the spotter while everyone else went in the room. In about three hits I already knocked the thing down to a quarter health.

I would have turned around to continue hundred fisting the dragon but the spotter made my feet stick to the floor so I couldn't turn around. However the rest 2 houred the dragon and knocked it out pretty easily, didn't get the record by like 15 seconds. But anyways, way too easy a fight whm barely had to cure the warrior.

I say have a pt consist of the following:
Level doesn't matter as long as you are all 25!

War/mnk or nin!
and lastly any job prefrably another whm or rdm

Ok heres the plan! WHM heals the ppl attacking the dragon <DON"T SLEEP IT>
Drg grabs aggro from Dragon
War provokes if Drg is getting hit too much

The two Sams go after the eye! Eyes are considered Demons so lol and the 2nd mage heals them as they share aggro from the eye. with this done you should beat them in record time!
monk 2hr yay

Between the two (Spotter and the Dread Dragon), Spotter is definitely the more annoying due its AOE spells. Although Spotter is highly resistant to magic, silence has seemingly a 50/50 chance of success against it (I've done the dread dragon mission 3 times, and if Silence didn't work the first time, it worked the second time when I recast it...by then it was a moot point since it was already just about dead with lvl 25 tanks hitting it :P). Casting silence will eliminate the annoying AOE spells, thus keeping the fighters relatively healthy for when they turn their attention to the Dread Dragon. Any other good strategies out there?

ok.. this fight is uber easy.

Party setup

25 SAM
20 MNK
25 DRG <~me
24 WHM

Before the cap we all ate food. Mithkabobs for the SAM and MNK, Boiled Crab for me.

I was wearing a friends +1 Beetle armor, for evasion. Also had evasion + earings.

SAM meditated to 300% tp. We went at the dragon.

SAM and MNK took the eye. I used Ancient Circle, and voked the dragon.

I didnt have a problem keeping hate from the dragon. And about every other hit it was intimidated by me. And most of the time it missed.

Both the eye and the dragon went down at about the same time. Took us about 2 1/2 minutes. We just barely missed the record - 5-10 seconds slow. ><

Point of this post? BLM sleeping the dragon is over rated. Same as a full party. Dont need to stress over finding the perfect party to kill this dragon.

Best results I've ever gotten are to sleep the dragon first. ;)

Sleep the dragon, smash the eye.

It's all very simple that way. I've done the 2/3 Mission with only three people before using this method (War, Thf, and myself as Blm/Whm).

I agree on this Sleep the dragon then kill the Eye.

As RDM I am often asked for this quest and i have done it about 16 times now (7 times one one day).

Last time was with a 3 man party.
Rdm25/Blm12 <me>

I slept the dragon, cast regen on both and the sam and pal killed the Eye VERY quick without actually taking lethal damage. They had each eaten a Chief Mithkabob. I was healing my MP meanwhile and keeping an eye on the dragon which slept soundly.
I healed & buffed up everyone after the Eye was dead and we took down the Dragon. Sam used 2H, we killed the eye and dragon in 3:55 which also registered as the new record.
