Regarding location

Let it be known, there is not an "exact" location, but a general spawning area. Here are a couple tips at camping her, though it does require one to two friends.

My party setup:

Myself Blm/Rng
Wizardhermit Blm/Whm
Dasna Drg/War

I camped myself at G-7, inside the cave next to the Selbina Clay Tablet, using widescan to guide both my friends to the sheep.
At this location I was able to scan the entire area in which she could possibly spawn. Making this THE spot to sit, is that it sits in the middle of the spawn radius. We divided the area into two quadrants. One running seperate trains.
FYI, there are usually people camping Mary, especially these days, whereas, on Ramuh, the Horn is now selling for a solid million gil.
This setup worked out nicely, though the competition was slightly sore, stealing sheep from our trains.
About 14 stacks of sheep teeth later, I spot her on widescan, placing her on my tracking radar. I head right to her, telling my friends to head to F-5. No one was around.I cast poison to claim her anyhow. I knocked her in the head with my club's Brainshaker WS, then disengaged because everyone wanted to see her for themself.
Mary died a slow death resulting in poisoning, and a severe rupture to her skull, dropping some delicious milk and a nifty horn.
I took the milk and let the other two divide the profits on the horn since I already had one in my inventory.
Happy hunting:)

When I was skilling up on leathercraft, I used to go for sheep in SM's pop location. Got her a number of times (for a level 65+, just a couple of whacks), and got two drops of the horn (cheers for TH2!!). Both times it dropped, I was just south of the first group of windmills right next to the East/West road up on the hill.

Actually, it pops in G-10 and f-9 also, Just allakanoob is retarded.. Now you have wasted your sweet sweet breathe to show us a not very helpful tip.. btw This NM is a ***** and it doesn't spawn in f-7 to g-7 areas that much or at all the large area and the low drop rate scare people away you have no idea how many times lucky noobs have stumbled into this NM while I was solo camping... Definatly not worth the time and effort for such a lottery pop and a 20% or so drop rate..

I was offering someone help, since they asked. Having read so many posts where people degrade one another leaves me a little numb, especially when they can't spell or punctuate properly.
This site would be so much better if it were not for the petty bickering, all too common (in my humble opinion).
You're correct in saying Stray Mary might not pop in the area of G-7. If you read my post more thoroughly, you would see that G-7 is in the middle of Allakhazam's documented spawn radius (please refer to the above map)
You'd also see that I claimed her in F-5.
Our friend asking about a good camping location, and any "helpful" tips on how to claim this Notorious Monster is what I was trying to offer; not whether or not the drop was worth the time and effort.
If you could offer help to people, rather than being negative, that would be much appreciated. If you can't do that, keep your pessimism to yourself and let people enjoy the game and this forum; designed as a useful tool to allow players to spread knowledge, and thus, enhance the enjoyment of the game.
Let's be civil here:)

Ouch! Here I thought One million on Ramuh was crazy, but two?!
As you can see from my signature, my Bard level is pretty low, and I haven't used the Horn acquired from my own knock-out of Mary. My question would be, does a Bard really sleep stuff so much to warrant a price tag so high?

The horn is very very useful for BCNM40s so it's quite easy to make your money back even if you resort to buying it.

Tried 10 times

No Horn

Made 300,000 K + on sheep leather
Made 150,000 K + on beehive chips

Gotten her 10 times, got milk every time (nice luck huh?)

First 6 times I was WHM / BLK only.
Next time I had a THF with TH1 as my partner
Next 3 times I've had a 4 Leaf and 2 Leaf Mandy Bud with me.

Here's the kicker

The 1 time I fought it with a LS member who was also going for it. He got the drop.

Two other LS members were passing through and got the drop, both first shot.

I will continue to kill her until she coughs up a horn for me.

3hr wait is bs

Confirmed. Stray Mary has spawned twice within a 5 min interval, however, she spawned once in each of her spawn areas (the north one and south one).

I farm here often, I'm currently 3/17 from her, 10 of those kills are without TH, 1/10 those kills I have got the Horn. 2/7 I got with TH with /thf.

Overall, I have seen her spawn around 20 times, losing claim due to 1) crappy monitor, didnt see name, 2) some thf used flee. 15 times I've seen her spawn in the northern section and 5 times in the south area.

This Horn goes for 290-300k on Shiva. ^^

As others have noted, Stray Mary has two seperate spawn points. It's very similar to camping Panzer Percival.

What I will call the North Camp is located where F-5 intersects with G-6. (The center of the 4 map squares.)

The South Camp is located where F-8 intersects with G-9.

At each of these two spots, you will locate a group of 4 sheep on your widescan list. (look for a group that stays closest to these points.)

It can be very hard to tell sometimes, as people farm and solo and also camp Mary. Just trust that this is correct - you will see the pattern after some time.

Now. There is a 5th (or 9th) sheep, which can appear at either camp. This is Mary's placeholder.

My hunting partner and I experimented, and it seems that the placeholder will always appear first in the list. I.e. if your group of sheep is suddenly 5 rather than 4, the first of those 5 is the placeholder.

Once again, this is hell to camp this way because of all the activity in that zone. It does work, but you may have a hell of a time with it. At the very least, you have just 9 sheep to watch for and kill, vs who-knows how many.

Also, even killing the exact placeholders, Mary was still a 3-4 hr spawn ><. Good luck.

EDIT: Just camped Mary for the first time in a while, and I need to make one correction. At the south camp, the placeholder will appear SECOND in the list of 5 sheep. North camp info is correct, placeholder will be the FIRST of the 5 sheep listed. Here's a chart to make sense of this:

Example #1 - Widescan list if PH is at north camp:

North Camp South Camp

Sheep	<--placeholder Sheep
Sheep Sheep
Sheep Sheep
Sheep Sheep
Sheep

Example #2 - Widescan list if PH is at south camp:

Sheep Sheep
Sheep		Placeholder-->	Sheep
Sheep Sheep
Sheep Sheep
				Sheep

Again, keeping track of sheep can be a pain if people are farming. Thankfully the zone was pretty empty tonight. :) I got three Mary's - first at South camp after @ 3hrs camping, then she popped at north camp @ 30 minutes later, then back at south camp after 1 hr.

I actually found a total of three seperate camps that had 5 Sheep all around the south camp. One was a bit further north but I decided to kill the second one in each group for good measure. I haven't had 5 sheep in the North camp at all so far so idk if there's more than one group with 5 there. It's a bit confusing >.<

I'm 1/3 on Mary :) But I've never actually been to the highlands to purposefully camp her. Twice claimed her farming with my boyfriend, no drop, then last night I was farming as DRG while seeking... running for the earth elemental that spawns in the cave mouth on the Western side of the Highlands... checking widescan just incase... then I see it! I didnt get too excited though, I just tracked and started joggin over, figured it would be claimed when I got there. Eventually tabbed on to her, name was still yellow :) So I spam Jump macro. seen a THF run towards her but he was too low to take her, but he cheered me on^^ Got the claim, got the drop, feel good because it's way overpriced on my server (like300-500k O.o) Good luck to anyone camping her :)
Edit: Claimed her at the bottom right corner of F-6. I'm fairly sure everytime I've claimed that's where she's been.

something about Mary...
# Sep 18 2005 at 6:06 PM Rating: Decent
For people that want to know or that complain about Stray Mary, and this is the truth if you hunt it as much as i did. So dont believe any rumors about "there arent 2 Stray Mary's" cuz THERE ARE 2.

ok here is my info on Mary

Mary has 2 spawn points but they both dont spawn in the same place. one spawns around F-8 to F-9 and the other spawns around F-6 to F-7 so yeah if u killed one Mary and u ran to the other spawn point position u might be lucky to find the other Stray Mary if its ready to pop.

It is a LOTERY SPAWN... meaning u have to kill a lot of sheep to get this sheep to spawn faster.

Usually if u kill even enough sheep it will still take 3 hours to spawn, yep 3 hours.

THE drops not too easy to get buts its one that can be obtained easy if u know what to do...

GOOD LUCK HUNTING
>.<

I'm 0/2 on this thing, spawned after killing 3 trains of 16 sheeps or so, waited 3 hours for it to pop again and nothing, also now that the Emperor and the Lizzy have Rare/Ex drop, some gil sellers thought it would be cool to camp this one.

Well, some folks on my LS and I have been trying to coax Mary into spawning for us, but no luck so far. We spent about 6 hours as a group in the spawn area putting a serious dent in the sheep population yesterday, and I've spent a few hours today, but still nothing. Steelfleece Baldarich showed up, but none of us were high enough lvl to take him. Does anyone have any more spawn info about Mary? Is she a lottery spawn or is it a time thing?

Mary is a minimum 3 hour lottery pop end of story..The people claiming "I killed her and then she was up again" all are untrue..No NM will ever spawn like that. As far as she goes she is a lottery spawn of mainly the sheep that surround the windmills. I did a Tele Dem yesterday to farm sheepskins and went as my RNG/THF since I had ammo to burn up. I was rounding a corner just checking for shyts and giggles and she was all alone at the top left corn of F9. I ran and Shadowbinded her...proceeded to obliterate her...dropped everything except the horn oddly enough.. So now with Mary I am 4/7 on her.

If You truly wish to know THE best way to camp and farm her, heres my suggestions.

All of the mobs are link dependant..gobs..bees..saplings..sheep. The best bet is to just kill EVERYTHING and fast. Pick a designated camp location within her spawn radius..From here use widescan to set the peramiters (sp) of where you will be pulling and going with your trains.

Now have the following things...A job which has a nasty AOE WS or a BLM with the GA series of spells (a level 50+ blm will do nicely).. You will link everything and pull it all to your camp...nuke or WS them to death...let the bodies vanish then check widescan...you will see the plate is clean...wait some time and mobs will repop..wash rinse and repeat this process..The reason your killing is everything is simply the following:

1. makes widescan easier to navigate if your scanning a fair amount of grids.

2. all of the drops are easy money makers..Bring some wind crystals and 2 sheep skins make a clump of sheep wool..stack and sell roughly (10k on my server)...Beehive chips if you atleast have some TH abilities are a fast drop as well as pots of honey.. As funny as it may seem, you may end up making a very fair amount of cash while waiting for Mary to spawn.

Good luck and Happy Hunting!

Mary has at least 2 spawns. One up by F-5/6, the other down by F/G-9.

She is a lottery pop, and I've seen respawn twice at the G-9 location within an hour.

Yet to confirm whether the two spawn locations are linked, or seperate, though previous posts suggest they are independant. I.e. Mary can die at G-9 and spawn at F-5 soon after.

Killing everything in sight might be good advice for farming, but it's terrible for NM camping.
Sheep respawn every 5 minutes - even if you only target sheep, you'll never keep up.

Been trying to narrow Mary's placeholders down on the Widescan list, but it's damn tough to do with all these sheep. Best I can do is pick a group of 3 or 4 around one spawn and hope.

So...all of these different mobs share the same spawns? I've never seen that before. The NM has always shared a spawn point with its own family.

Actually it is true about the quick spawn. I used to farm rams here and check for mary between spawns. I found mary on scan once, killed em and went right back to farming. Killed the next cycle of rams and ended up with full inventory. Having TH2 speeds things up on that quite noticably. As I was running back to Bastok, I figured what the hell, I'll see if that ***** is up (since I read about people saying it spawns quickly sometimes). Sure enough, there it was again. This was about 10-15min after its last death. This isn't to say it's always like this. In my experience of the spawn/death of mary, which I am 1/28 on the horn btw, Mary can spawn anywhere from 10min (maybe 5 even) to 6+hrs. It commonly spawned every 1hr or so, but can go much longer.

As for it's location, the circled portion on the map is most of it. It actually extends to F/G-9. Yeah... she's a real *****. I rarely seen Mary spawn in the middle of the radius, it was usually at the top most or bottom most portion. But definitely can spawn in between

Sindarek is dead on about one thing though, the best way is indeed picking one location and sticking to it. But that only works in a perfect world. Chances are, you're not the only one killing sheep. Whether it be a mary/ram camper, a strict mary camper, or someone leveling, your chances of being the only person killing sheep between mary spawns are lower than getting a Rabbit's Charm in 1 kill. Scan is a definite MUST, but even if you do stick to one spot, it would be wise to time sheep spawn intervals to check the other areas.

I've camped more DIFFERENT NM's than most people you'll see/meet. And in my experience, NM's that have wide spawn radius' like this tend to be able to spawn AWAY from your killing range. Usually, placeholder (or even auto spawn NMs) types have a specific spot on the scan that you can use to identify which mobs to kill and/or where to look on scan to speed things up. Unfortunately, especially for one with half a map radius, that's not very reliable.

I was on my way to the Dunes, riding my chocobo and tabbing through all of the enemies on the screen when I see Stray Mary! I was a 32Rdm/Blm at the time. I quickly dismount and Dia the elusive sheep over to me. The battle begins and Mary goes down fast. She drops a Giant Sheep Meat, Mary's Milk and Mary's Horn!
This was the first time I had ever fought Mary. I had camped a few other NM's with no success before (Leaping Lizzy - of course, Spini Spipi - 1 Drop).
