Vana'diel Bestiary: Stray Mary  

PLEASE STOP CAMPING NMs THAT DROP QUEST ITEMS !
I am trying to finish the quest for the milk, but it is being near impossible since there are countless Greedy B@$t@rds camping Stray Mary for Gil. Please leave NMs that are quest related alone so others can finish the quests. It's not like there is enough to go around. If you are such an @$$ho!e that you can't stop being greedy, than at least sell the quest drop items in the AH at no higher than the quest reward. (i.e. Stray Mary's Milk gives 5k. Sell it for 5k or less, NOT MORE!)
You say you did the work so others don't have to in order to finish the quest and you should be paid for it? Well if you aren't doing a quest and camp the MN to make Gil, then you are keeping others from finishing the quest on their own. You are not helping them by killing NMs on them and the selling the drop for more than the reward. You are being a real f#c&ing @$$ho!e though.

grrr 5 times now i have camped mary for hours on end, 4 of the five i had a rng with me using wide scan, every time not even a pop. I would not be as frustrated if she had appeared and been taken but that i have spent about 20 hours camping her and not even seen her is very discouraging, if anyone has any tips for me please, please tell me.

P.S. sorry for the rant but as I said I am very frustrated at the moment

I camp rams for fun and I saw my friend standing around the big mountain. I talked to him and asked him why he was standing there. He told me about stray mary. So I continued to kill rams until and i saw her and got there before him. hehe. I got the milk and got all excited, then he toldme that that wasnt the main drop that the drop was a horn. pleh lucky me. BUt thats another nm on my list.

Im 2/2 on her milk, not had the horn as of yet...

Is the horn all she is camped for? ive heard its a mega rare drop...id camp her but 1) i dnt have the patience and b) she gets camped so bad on Fairy

Maybe ill buy the horn for 100k and sell it for like 150k....=D

Hahaha very funny story with Mary. I've camped her for a total of about 4-6 hours (I don't really count) while on my THF/RNG (but mostly farming rams and sheep), but i've never actually seen her until today. I'm walking back to bastok after finishing a dunes party as my 11RNG/NIN, and I check my widescan for kicks. First, I see a tremor ram, and I laugh because the past few times I've been there there were 10000 people farming there, and I was wishing I had my THF main. Then a few steps later, I spam it again, and as you guessed it, Stray Mary is at the top of my list. I wouldn't have noticed her if she wasn't on the bottom of my widescan -_- maybe that's why I never see her.

Well, then I realize, "If i try to kill her solo I'm screwed" so I go to her pos, and I figure I'm gonna see someone fighting her, but to my amazement, no one. I just stand there looking at her from a distance until I realize that i can split the drop with someone. I have to message 4 people before anyone even responds. "Oh, I'm doing something with my LS" one guy responds...

I decide that someone is gonna wanna kill it, so I shoot it and run. So there I am, a level 11 ranger, with Stray Mary chasing me across the Highlands. Luckily, I explain to the guy that I HAVE MARY CHASING ME ^^; and he helps me out. I got Mary's Milk and a delicious peice of sheep meat, but no horn, but a funny adventure none the less.

This 1 was a long but also lucky hunt for me. I needed the milk for the quest forever so i said might as well hunt mary instead of hoping to see her. I started off hunting her 1 day (in the wrong spot btw) and wasted 6 hrs and 20 sheepskins doing so. 1st of all i started clothcraft while hunting her then 2ndly it was only after me and a friend went to hunt her that i realized of the right spawn spots hehe So when i started getting skill pts for clothcraft, synthing sheep wool like mad, and hunting in the right spot i was making good progress^^ cept for the 1st 5 mins into the hunt when mary popped really far away. By the time i got to her she was dead:( but that didnt stop me. Spent another 6 hrs hunting her and wasnt losing her this time. The next morning i was still hunting the 6 hr period when a high lvl rng came to hunt too. I spammed him bad even though i had rng subbed. My advantage was VOKE^^ and sure enough mary popped a little while later right next to both of us. While the rng was still widespamming i had it claimed and half killed. Bet u can guess y this was another lucky nm hunt:) (didnt even have thf) since i had no use for the horn (dont have any future plans for brd) i jus sold it for a few gil lol I completed my quest as well of course and never put anymore camping into mary. I always take a quick peek while passing through like every smart person would. I almost got it another time>>was drk vs drk>>i casted poison and he drew his weapon but i jus moved that extra inch while casting that screwed it. What can u do? Mary is another random spawn as well, for me, a long 1 but i did hear a few stories of mary spawning like 5 mins apart. Hmmmmm??? sounds like another lizzie. Oh ya, in case u havent figured it out KILL SHEEP! (mad 1s^^) in, well, jus make the circled area on the map jus a little bit bigger k.

I was out farming in Pashhow, i got bored, so i head out to the highlands. grab a choco to head to san, and decide to roam around her spawn. i was drk/rng for widescan, you know how it goes. i hit widescan a few times see a rampageing ram, go kill it get his horn (now if i can get other for the purple belt). I hit widescan again, and i see stray mary. I think to my self, someone must already have it, owell. i should just go watch. i get there, see mary and no one. i look around, see nothing. And long story short, she dies and only drops milk, like every other kill. she spawned right there where F6,7 meet G6,7. mabe ill head back out there another time

Finally after weeks, yes weeks lookin for this stupid ewe I got fed up did bst quest and came back on a choc. I hit wide scan and five minutes later i was fightin her. First time I've ever seen her, beat a 37 rng to her.... F-7 got the kill

WOOT! :) dropped skin, milk and horn yay me!

Stray Mary, 0/2 for me... dropped the milk both times, but no horn. I killed it the second time today... the weirdest thing was, that after killing it, I went to G-9 on the map, and there it was again. Engaged in battle with someone else, tho... Either there were two Mary's at the same time, or that spawn location map is wrong...

EDIT1: Son of a...! 0/3 now... dropped only Milk this time. I'm getting frustrated...

After posting EDIT1, I went back, and after 20 mins. claimed Stray Mary again, and it dropped da horn! Finally!

...oh, and those who are intrested: all Mary kills were made with 50RDM/15THF... :)

I really don't like this *******. And neither does it like me. I am 1/23 on Horn drop. 16 kills straight with nothing but the milk and the miscellaneous sheep drops. 17th, got the horn. Now at 23 with just that one drop on record. And no, I don't have the horn on that account. I sent it to the mule so I can take it out for whenever I lvl my BRD or its needed. Always hunting em with my 50thf/rng. HATE YOU MARY!!

Oh right, and spawn time does indeed vary from a matter of minutes, to hours. From what I've seen, it is indeed a placeholder NM (kill the Mad Sheep to make it spawn randomly) although I could be wrong. And radius of spawn is HUGE. From collumns F/G-5 (lower half of 5)through F/G-9. So basically, there's a lot of ground to cover. Which is why you NEED RNG sub to find Mary faster. The large radius discourages many players, so its not really camped very often. Most of the time THF/RNG, RNG/THF, or high lv BST/THF are going to be the ones who camp and/or find this NM.

Well one day I was farming mary and i saw my ls friend, taynte.I completely said (Please dont pull Stray Mary if you see her)they understood and I was camping her right where I was plvling.It all went good until the japaneese player pulled mary.This party was in the lvl 10s.Sombody called for help, im not saying who.then of course if you call for help you cant the drop.I was pissed and left.
I guess its my fault for plvling while hunting Mary.I also should of noticed that i dont think the japaneese player said he understood

iam 2/2 with her milk lol no horn yet but its still really fun to beat the crap outta her :P
