#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 31 2004 at 12:41 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) These things are so great if you can get one. It's basically treasure hunter 1 if you have it in your inv. Good stuff.

It means that they are a (normally) more powerful version (for their level) of the creature. Most have extra objects that they can drop in addition to crystals (if you're close in lev and have signet) and whatever else that type of creature will normally drop.

Because of these extra drops, certain NMs are 'camped' - that is, there are people waiting near where they spawn, and will attack it right when it pops.

Sometimes the objects that NMs drop can be worth a whole bunch of gil. (Leaping Lizzy drops a pair of boots that can go for 200K or more)

Sometimes they're unique items that aren't worth anything (RA/EX items that cannot be sold to other players), but can be very useful to the right job/level, or used in a quest/mission.

In the case of Tom Tit Tat, he drops a set of claws (can only be used by MNK) that increase accuracy by 3. These would be excellent to get if you need to bring your MNK from 1 to a higher level (where you can switch to more powerful claws).

Tom may be camped by a high level Leatherworker, who can craft them into a level 10 set of claws also.

Was just cruising around and saw this guy hanging out there. LOL, I thought! What luck! Slapped the hell out of him, and he dropped some Fruit Punches. lucky me. Too bad they only sell for about 4,000. Is there another use for them? I think they sell for 7,000 in Jeuno, I might sell them there. Lvl THF25/WAR10

Only saw him once, he kicked hell out of me till I zoned. High defense, my hits did practically nothing on him. Of course I was a newbie level 10 at the time and pretty much didn't know what I had gotten into.

Was farming by Starfall Hillock and trying to level my THF, happened to see this guy strolling along. I was lvl 9 THF so I wasn't sure if I could take this guy myself since you can't check him. Gave a shout that I found a NM and if anyone wanted to help kill it. Within 30 seconds a lvl 10 Bard and lvl 10 MNK showed up, threw together a quick party and the three of us took care of him. All ended up in the red with our HP but were able to take care before it got too serious. Was able to steal a 4-leaf bud but no drop at all. Exp was practically nothing. Whoopdy-doo. Waste of time if you ask me unless your trying to "cross him off your NM list".

I logged in to meet my friend by the starfall tree, and saw these fireflies rising from the ground, so i checked the time. It was 1:23 am Iceday (i remember the day had something to do with ice, name idk?) I turned around and saw Tom Tit Tat run right at me. Im was a 8mnk/4war, i saw others runing at him so engaged.I didnt even take time to heal to full hp, i was at ~75% (147 at 100% hp i think). I didnt have time to develop a plan. Well needless to say he zonked me, although i got to use my 2hr (100 fists) at 33% my hp, that brought him down to ~66%, i figure if i woulda went in full hp and started 2hr right away with boost every 15, and using combo at the right moment (towards the end of 100fists max tp), it is possible i coulda taken him. I know a lot of variables, be he didnt hit that hard. Ive fought in that area three virtual days killing everything in sight (farming and xp) with 2 whms, war, and myself (mnk) he didnt appear. I think the time of day (cuz it matches another post) has something to do with it, as well as the day. I watched him for a while when i came back from home point and lost him around 8:00 am, dissapeared? i was fighting giant bees in the area.

Was on my way to a BCNM in Giddeus last nite and saw this little onion head between the tree and outpost. I camped him once when I was like 16 or so for about 2 hours. I was Glad to get off my chocobo and kill his ***. Only a Two-Leaf, but lots of satisfaction

ran into this guy while leveling my dark up. I was only like level 6 and tried to kill him as im not from around here and have no clue what level he was. Needless to say he owned me. So i switched to thief and ran back. Luckily i had widescan and so found him. Killed him and got the drop which sells for an impressive 10k on my server.

One more NM added to the list. Only like 60 more to go...

Ahhh...my first NM. At first, I had my doubts about finding the little guy, but sure enough, after about an hour, he appeared in between the outpost and tree atop the hill. I had a party of friends searching the area for him and killing the surrounding mandragoras, as well as everything else we came across. It made it a lot easier to find him with 6 people. However, his drop was incredibily dissapointing: a two leaf mand bud...big yay. Oh well, hopefully better luck next time...

Hello, this is my first post here. Cool site. I wanted to say that he also drops Saruta Cotton. So far I've killed him twice and only got the 2 leaf and the Saruta Cotton.

I happened to be around the area looking for Bone Chips when I remembered that Tom spawned near here, so I started circling the Twinkle Tree killing every Mandragora that I came across. When I was circling the tree, I stayed within I-6 and when I saw him he was heading towards the tree coming from the direction of the Outpost. I am a level 15 BLM and he was hitting me for 3-7 damage. I calculated his total HP and he had right around 490. He only dropped a pair of fruit punches, though, but I am not complaining. :)

Onions make me cry
# Apr 16 2004 at 4:39 AM Rating: Decent
I've killed this onion head four times and gotten two drops of the Fruit Punches. I'm not sure what his spawn rate is, although, one time I killed him and saw him spawn not too long afterwards (maybe 40 min, I wasn't keeping track), so I believe it to be pretty frequent. I'm sure it depends on if people are killing Mandragoras or not. Wide Scan helps a bunch since he does have a fairly large spawn radius. Those seeking Tom for money purposes, I don't think it is a wise investment (depending on server). First drop sold for 5k, however, my second drop didn't sell for a long while and went for only over 2k. I do know they're used to make Tropical Punches which sell for 10k though. Good Luck ^^

Tom Tit Tat likes to run around a lot. I've seen him running around the outpost, and I've seen him way over on the opposite side of the map. If you want to make things easier, sub RNG or BST for widescan. Fruit punches go for about 7k on my server (Bahamut).

I ran into this guy when I was a newb (lvl 14 war no sub) and killed it no problem, I got fruit punches and sold em for 5k, not too bad for a newb I would say, anyway, I have looked around for him and have yet to see him again :\ dumb mandra
RE: Newb Hunt
# May 04 2004 at 9:05 AM Rating: Decent
pretty sure fruit punches and tropical punches, maybe not both but one of em, are used in some high lvl synth... so i really doubt it was some noob buying those cuz most noobs but the highest dmging weapon, not some piece of crap like these.

How does this mob appear? I saw it once, and killed it. But I've never seen it again, do I have to trade something to the Twinkle Tree for it to work? (Like some other NM's they only appear if you trade something to something.)

Killing the Mandrag' around the area isn't working...

RE: Appear?
# Mar 03 2004 at 4:28 AM Rating: Decent
No you don't trade anything to the tree. Just kill monsters and wait for it to spawn. I found it 6 times. Once in H-6, 4 times in I-6, and once in I-7.

>>If u r a whm u dont need tropical punches<<
As a Paladin, I don't need the Rabbit Charm, but that doesn't stop me from looking for it.
