Well camped it last night, first claim he droped the mnk pants i waited around a bit more and claimed him again, i got the sam pants, but after that he never poped again for at least 2 hours that i've been there waiting for him. Can the drop of the samurai pants make him take longer to repop?

Over the last 5 days, I've gone 0/19 on the Shinimusha Haidate and only 5/19 have been Aikido Kosh*ta, as MNK/THF. PH spawns once every 14 minutes. Spawn time of NM has been as low as 30 minutes and as high as 10 hours and 30 minutes. I'm beginning to believe this son of a ..... doesn't even drop the Haidate anymore. *Note* I've noticed shorter spawn times by killing the Bugbear Bondman PH and then killing his 2 friends, however, it's just unproven speculation.
1 more kill has made me 0/20, so I switched over to my brother's THF character (TH2 + thief's knife) and 2 kills later I became 1/22! The greedy bastard dropped both aikido kosh*ta and shinimusha haidate.

After I killed PHs for an hour I finaly got claim on this bad boy.
Killing him as RDM is real easy. At the time I was 59 and I subbed THF for TH1.
Never did he stand a chance during the whole fight. I had Stoneskin and Phalnax up all the time. I had to Convert once ( /cheer Elvaan mp ), and that was the only part where I was at risk.
BTW if you own a Hornetneedle, try it out with Haste and some en spell ^^
The added damage alone could have killed this NM.
Oh yeah, no drop >.> but that was expected.

I've been camping this guy the past couple of days and he just didn't want to rear his ugly head. This morning, I got on and started killing PHs. After about 45 minutes he popped! So I ran over to him and stunned him. I killed him, no drop. As I read, he will sometimes pop right after you kill him instead of another PH, so I waited. He popped again, this time I took it a little bit slower. I ended up thinking 'no way, I'll never get the drop'. After I killed him I read: "You find a pair of Aikido Kosh*ta." "You find a pair of Shinimusha Haidate.". He dropped both drops. ^^ Time to sell the mnk and use the sam!

was wandering around movapolis on odin(as 75 pld) with my 75 rdm friend deragos and saw ppl camping this nms area,we left, came back 20 mins later and he popped right in front of us,needless to say we got claim and a nice new pair of shinimusha haidate,not bad for a lucky claim lol
edit: was standing around talkin and admiring our sam trousers and look accross to the west pop area to see strongmans up again.we kick his ass but no drop this time,still not bad tho 2 claims in 15 mins

i camped this thing a few days ago. no pop, i went back last night and he was there waitin for me. he agroed me and brought his little friend also. i am 67 mnk and i walked through both of them with ease.i even got the same pants my first try. ^^

Killed this guy easily as 58rdm/blm. got the sam legs
i camped this guy for several hours, and its pop was the same every time for me.
i showed up killed 3 bugbears, and he pop'd.
killed him then 1 pop later he spawned again at the other entrence. 2 hours go by, i know cause i used manafont, and he poped again and 1 pop later he pop'd at other entrence. several times he did this. ALSO he aggros to a lvl 68 BLM taru.
only got the SAM pants...

FFXIV: Wutai - Pillow Biter - Miner (26/09/2010 Rank 19)
Camped this twice so far and 0/2 on both Haidate and Koshida. First Strongman spawned after killing 2 placeholders. The second popped after I arrived in Oldton Movalpolos and a THF informed me he'd killed it 10 minutes previous. Took about 2 hours of killing placeholders for it to pop again.
Finally got the drop (0/3 now) after running through the zone to get to Newton. When running down towards the spawn area I spotted Strongman unclaimed and running along with another Bugbear in tow and several goblins with a Taru in front running for his life. He warped, I claimed the NM before it could despawn and got the drop. Had to flee and zone the rest of the mobs though, but I was pretty happy.
NM Despawn?! I cant remember NM'd despawning i remember like a month i go i died by Dune Widow when she had 1% hp if not less due to aggro from a Lost Soul and by the time i got back (considering time for tele about 10mins) with a friend she was still there in the spot she popped in with full life, im like 99.9% sure NM just dont depop could be wrong though ^^ good luck

Well started camping him as 64drk/thf, and after like 3 or 4 PHs, i did even notice it was him, thought i was killing another PH til it started to own me, so i had to drain and sickle moon to regain the lead. it was a long fight but i ended up pretty much killing him and getting the Shinimusha Haidate, 700k on Quetz. 1/1 and gonna stay for a second pair probly

me and my friend spent about 8 hours killing bug bears and goblins that were in the area and not a single peep outa this nm. do we need to leave the goblins live? do we need to not kill the bugbears on the side that zones into Newton movalpolis if so let me know because I am trying to get these pants for a friend and i dont want to be camping this thing and him never showing up.

I've killed him a bunch of times, with 3 MNK pants dropping along with the occasional Mask, no SAM yet so i quit camping him out of spite... fight the machine!. It's a pretty easy system, really really easy if noone else is camping him. There is 1 placeholder that can spawn in 2 different places. 1st place which i will refer to as (A) is right when you enter the spawn area I-11 near the Ancient Bomb in the tunnel. Second place (B) is right before the tunnel to the zone of Newton J-11. There is one fixed bugbear at each pos, and one spawn where the PH can appear. Easiest way to determine PH is to find the spot either A or B with 2 bugbears. One is the PH and one is the static. At A if your looking at the front of the mobs the PH is on the LEFT, at B if you're looking at thier front the PH is on the RIGHT... OK.. so PH is established, kill it and wait ~13-15min the PH or Strongman will pop next to the existing static bugbears at either A or B, nowhere else. His spawn time varies, I have seen pops back to back and I have camped for two hours with nothing. Usually he shows up quick and it's common for an "aftershock" pop, I have seen that often. So basically isolate the PH, keep the timer running and if you can get a buddy to hold down one spot while you take the other you should have no trouble with mad claims on this bia. If you're solo theres a spot in the middle where a goblin walks around that you can post up at and see both A and B spots. If you have competition hold down one spot, or hope he doesnt know PH spawn time and try to grab it while he's not paying attention. IDK what else to say.. just keep in mind that it's all an equation and you just need to isolate variable to figure it out i guess, lol. I did this as PLD73 with /WAR /BLM or /THF sub (/thf nice b/c mug has 15 min recast, so mug PH 1/2 way through fight, and there's your spawn timer). Hope you have more luck on SAM pants than me.

Easy stuff. Camped for about an hour, Strongman spawned in J-11. Fun fight, used about.. 20-30 Bloody Bolts, about 5 minutes fighting. No problem. Got both pants to drop, too.

Beat this chump today as 63sam/war...I only was in this room for around 45 mins..i killed a few bondmen and then wouldnt ya know he spawned! It was a pretty easy fight, he took some health off me, but in the end i was victorious!! Oh and i never have good luck w/ NMs, but he dropped both pants..The Haidate sale for 800k on Alexander..Good luck!!

My mnk is getting close to 50 so i decided to try and hunt for what gear i could. A friend told me thise was good at 50 so i went to trry it out and to my surprise there was no 1 was there. On his fourth pop he finally drops both pants and i was able to do the quest for jaeger mantle also so it was a good day like taking candy from a gob.

Could anyone tell me the PH on this NM? i'm currently lvl 65 SAM/WAR and i thought these would go nicely with the lvl 50 rare/ex body.... i forgot the name but i thought this and that would go nicely going to do mission 5-1 >.>
Popped next to a Bondman at I-11, I hadn't been killing any bugbears, and I'm fairly sure no one else had either as the other 2 guarding Newton were up as well.

Soloed this guy yesterday as a 54 DRG/WHM. I camped it with a 63 DRK/THF friend of me for about 3 hours. The DRK had to go afk, then and guess what happened? Strongman popped while the DRK was afk >_> I recasted Protect, rested quickly while the DRK had aggro (we were alone there^^), ate a Steamed Crab and attacked it, then. The fight was unexpectedly easy, I only got into the red one time when he used his Blow before I could cast Dia. When it was finally dead after about 5 minutes I got 7 exp and 11 Gil ._. No drop >< But it was quite exciting, so I wasn't really angry^^

Camped 3+ hours, killed place holders on both sides, he eventually pops (alone) on the I-11 side. Kill, drops 40 gil-no mnk or sam pants, not even a bloody mask. Repop on placeholders appears to be 12-14 mins sometime poping 1 at at time sometimes in pairs. Didn't bother waiting around to see if he poped again in 15mins like the above poster said...

I just soloed this guy as a 55rdm/blm. I was in mining gear and killing a few Bugbear Bondsmen trying to get a chest key. Took me 45 minutes to kill this guy because I was using the sleep/nuke strategy. It was so funny, I had 3 high lvls watching me and waiting for me to die. I killed him after a disgustingly long battle, and got the mnk armor. The high lvls were mad and I now feel like a God, even if others have soloed him with a MUCH easier time at it =)

I camped this NM for an hour at least when it poped it was a very easy fight even for my 57rdm/22thf, i didnt even havto use 2 hour i would say it is a lvl 52 NM no drop the first time second time i got the pants. :) good luck.

Okay... so im confsued... I look at the picture an they are by a windmill looking thingger... but that's @ j-10, an it says he's @ j-11, there is 2 bugbears that spawn beside eachother @ j-11... but I cant find any of them @ j-10

I'm prett sure it could be J-11, seeing as from there you can porbably see the windmill-thingy from J-10 anyway... they are not far apart at all...

It is possible for this NM to drop both pairs of pants, as he did the first time I killed him (with TH2).
I solo'd him at my Current level 64 Rdm. I was finished up mining, had all but 1 item spot full, thought i'd check on him. Wasnt paying much attention when i turned the corner, and he aggrod me.
I was un buffed, missing 100 mp and in mining gear, and I still took him down w/ melee. No drop on either item, 14 exp, so I'd list him at lvl 55-56 just like info says.
He uses Bionic Boost (Counterstance)
and I think the other was called Earthshock. (Decent Damage Earth-base WS.)

I Just When To Check It Out & All Of A Sudden Strongman Pops & I Kill It With A 69 PLD & I Had No Trouble I Just Kill It Like Nothing & My First Time Fighting It The SAM Drop Drop & Its Worth 300K.

Though I have been frusterated with how long it can take for this guy to pop, I Just wanted to add that I managed to pop this NM twice on opposite sides within 15-20 minutes of each other. I think the spawn pattern is similar to Enkylados in Delkfuts. So far, the Shinumusha Haidate have dropped for me once in about 30+ kills. I have gotten a lot of the Aikido Kosh*ta though..

I am currently a Lvl 62blm/31whm.... I was wondering if it were possible for me to solo this NM assuming I buff up before the fight.. any info would be great.. thanks^^

This NM has very strange spawn times. I camped it for about 5 hours, it never popped once. Then i got bored and went searching for the Treasure Chest, when i came back after about 15 mins, a Taru was fighting him(@J-11)... needless to say I was pretty pissed off i had lost the NM. So the Taru left after he killed it and I started my watch timer because most NM's repop in ~2 hours, at least i knew the pop time now. Then, 14 mins after the NM death, the place holder popped over at I-11... but he was taller and bulkier then the the regular Bondman... hmm, strange. So, I walked closer and theres Strongman! I start fighting him, while thinking... nahh this must be a fake NM or something.. it was just killed 14 mins ago!?! After about 2 minute fight, I defeated it and it dropped Shinimusha Haidate.
After that, i waited for the next placeholder pop, Strongman didnt appear this time though. So i left and put my spanky new pants in storage for my SAM im leveling. Suffice to say, very strange pop times, I beleive it is a random pop with no timer associated with it.

Me and friend just found out this area and we were farting around killing sh*t bugbears all look same so i look over and i see one walking behind us so i turn and it says impossiable to guage so i ingauge with 700 hp o mp <pld55/27 war> me and Drk friend both poped 2hrs and riped his a$$ up it gave us 16 exp and the Sam legs i just about sh*t my pants when i saw it was selling for 300k.

He doesnt hit hard at all, he just has a LOT of HP. It took me about 6-8 minutes to kill him, mostly doing melee attacks and nuking with Drain.
I got 21 exp, so I'd say he's roughly level 50.

We just killed it after about 45 minutes of random killing. I got my pants (Shinimusha Haidate), now we are waiting to get more to sell. Im glad they arent rare.
BTW its myself (62SAM) and my friend (62DRG) and we killed him no problemo in under a minute.

Bugbear Strongman can spawn at both tunnel entrances but I suspect it shares or has another set of placeholders as Matsu said, I have waited around 6 hours for him to spawn at times. The drop rate is insanely rare in my experience (Treasure Hunter 1)..
I have killed this guy twice so far once with no TH the second time i had TH2 and both times he didn't drop anything, not even a mask ><. Anyone know how good the drop rate is on the SAM pants?
