General InformationLottery spawn of the Damselflies that spawn from (D-8) through (F-8) in Valkurm Dunes PH Info from SmokesalotThe PH is the mob the prevents the NM from spawning until it is killed. In the case of the Valkurm Emperor, it is one of the Damselflies that roams about Whitesands beach in Valkurm Dunes. What a kagillion people refuse to take into their minds is that VE has ONE placeholder, and that's it. Go to the beach with Widescan ability, and position yourself at the peak of the sandhill just northwest of the pack of trees in the middle of the beach. Pull up WS, and you'll see something like this. Damselfly Goblin Mugger Goblin Leecher Goblin Gambler Sniper Sniper Sniper Sniper Damselfly<~~~~~PH!!! This is a truncated list, but as you can see the PH is located in the set of four Damselflies between the leeches and the snipers, and is always the top one. These flies are always grouped in four, and are always located between the snipers and the thread leeches. When VE pops your list will look like this... Sniper Sniper Sniper Damselfly Damselfly Damselfly Valkurm Emperor Thread Leech Thread Leech Thread Leech Thread Leech VE always pops on the bottom of the list. If there aren't four flies in the list, that means someone else is killing them. Either nearby parties, or other campers. If this is happening, you have to figure out a way to nab yourself the PH, and be 100% sure that the fly you kill is the PH. After that, go ahead and let the other campers waste their time killing the other flies. Valkurm Emperor Special Attacks

well ive just recently began to camp a few NM's and VE is by far one of the worst. I have not seen VE spawn ne sooner than 2 hrs if not longer, and on a note, not sure if ive ever seen VE spawn during night time??? NE one whos camped VE alot wanna fill us in?

From what i heard, you get the emperiors hairpin from a BCNM now not from VE. Only the empress hairpin drops now. so it would be pointless to camp him for gil.
Just wanted to know if I could solo this guy as a 33/16 Blm/Whm or should I just wait wait till my nin is like lv 40 and camp him with that?
Spent an entire day camping him last week, went 0/5. I was fairly mad after that so I stopped hunting him and just fished for the rest of the week.
Then this morning I figured I would try to get a pin again. I outpost warped out to valkurm, ran to his area, and he was just floating there, I quickly killed him and got my pin.

I had such bad luck with LL(1/29) but this wuz great! I'm 1/1 on him! My ls members helped me: Quiksilver,Razor,Mushu and Chronick and me from Hades Sever so happy!

Ok, server maintenence, so new NM camping strategy.
This one is most easily done on thf/rng or rng/thf combo. A little more difficult is on any combo with a thf sub lvl 25 for flee.
As with almost all NMs on the game, there is only 1 placeholder. Most people dont know this fact, and even some say that its not possible at all for him to have only 1 placeholder, but, he does!
First of all, there are only 5 damselflys that you need to concern yourself with. These are the 5 that spawn between E-8 and F-9.
Each damselfly will fly within the paramaters of a particular spot on the map. It is difficult to explain without the use of pictures and map markers, but i will try. Each position of the damselfly will be in relation to the 'oasis' facing due north.
First damselfly will be to the right, over the ridge to the very right of the oasis. This one can spawn between the two trees over the ridge to the right all the way down to the far right corner on the beach. This one will fly around in that same area, but will not go above the ridge directly to the right of the oasis.
The second will spawn from near the beach to the hill directly past the oasis, and slightly to the right corner of the oasis, and to aboud midway down the hill to the north of the oasis, and to the apex of the left hill.
The third will spawn behind the hill to the left of the oasis to the far south west near the beach to the two trees to the northwest of the oasis.
The fourth will spawn from the trees to the northwest of the oasis to the far left wall behind the rock, but not up the cliff.
The fifth, of course, is the placeholder. this is why it takes widescan to see the exact placements of each damselfly prior to killing one. If there are 2 damselflies in any given spawn area and flight region, then one of them is most likely the placeholder for VE. Since the movement paths of each damselfly overlaps slightly, there could possibly be 2 near the outer edge of their regular paths, but still not be the placeholder. The only way to truely see which is the placeholder is to first watch their movements on widescan or by following them around. Then finding the area with 2 damselflys in relative proximity to each other near the center of their flight paths.
After you have determined that the placeholder is one of two damselflies, all you have to do is kill them both. A damselfly's respawn time is 2:06 game hours (or 5 minuts 11 seconds) give or take a few game minutes. Kill one damselfly in the area, and add 2:06 to the exact time of death of that damselfly, and you will know the time that he will spawn next. then, wait about 1 minute before killing the other. Widescan just after the time has passed by for the fly to have popped, and find his position. If it is outside of the pre-determined spawn/flight radius of the damselfly that belongs in that section, you know which is the placeholder for VE.
Then the fun part comes in.
After you determine which is the placeholder, you have to keep up with him. This is easiest done by fleeing before the spawn, and widescaning directly after the spawn. If your damselfly just spawned, chances are you can either run to it really fast and kill it to get next time, or to see someone else kill it and still get the next timer. Also extremely helpful to have flee up before VE spawns so you will have no delay in getting flee up and going to him.
A word of caution: If you are not completely sure exactly wether the damselfly you saw or killed was the placeholder or not, save your flee, and just widescan at the time you had for his next spawn, and write down the spawn times for any other damselflys you killed. This way, even if you are wrong, you will still have flee if VE spawns, and you were wrong about the placeholder.
The only reason i am sharing this information now is because it took me the longest time to figgure out, and i have the Empress Hairpin for my nin now. I will no longer be camping VE unless a friend needs the Emperess Hairpin, and needs help camping. Good luck with obtaining your Empress Pin :)

There are only four damselflies that spawn in the Valkurm Emperor region and all of them are placeholders. And theres is *no* I repeat *no* pattern to where these mobs pop. Ive killed this thing 11 times, and the four placeholder damselflies are easy to spot on widescan, theyre all grouped together, and they should be inbetween a group of thread leeches and snippers.

Between myself ans 3 others campers i've come to know we're 0/6, 0/5, 0/4, and 0/3 = 0/18!! This is still heavily camped by those wanting to sell the Emperor pin (up past 1 mil now on phoenix), and I am getting very discouraged.
I was wondering if VE's spawn time has been recently randomized like Leaping Lizzy's. If anyone knows I would appreciate it. ^^
Camped VE most of the day, having sat through 3 spawns, killing it twice and getting the pin on the first kill. 2nd kill was for a friend, but did not get the drop.
All 3 spawns were over 2 hours and it is still somewhat heavily camped. Emperor Hairpin price initially declined to 650k, but steadly rose back to 900k on Fenrir.

Wow thats from the best things that the SE done , now i can try to get it for my self, 1mil is really damn expensive. And before you can never camp without the cute(fkerz) gil-sellers.
I spent days and days just wanting to fight this NM, but no use :(. I kinda hate Ragnarok Server for so much gil-sellers.

that guy munchkin on Fairy is a lil snot nose brat we were camping that stupid Ant NM Centurio and he starts cussing out my friend we both had to black list him he was acting like an 11 year old... lol... suprise he got a claim ^^

He wasnt that hard i got 2 NMs in 1 hit in the Dunes i camped it as DRK58/THF59 well there were alot of RDM and WHM w/o war sub they wouldnt stand a chance against stun. BUt there was 1 rng and 1 drg
Well After a total of 10 days spent camping this SOB I finally got my hairpin. 5 days I spent preupdate only to lose the claim to the same 2 people every time. Postupdate I got the claim about 6 times by myself with no drop. I offered other people to invite me to their party in order to use my TH2 ability. All 3 times I was invited the pin dropped so this was kinda a bummer. Twice I was in a party where we lotted the drop and both times I lost. Finally todat at 7:00 A.M. on July 26th of the year 2005 I finally got my freaking hairpin.
No more coming to the dunes and spending countless hours trying to chase down this drop anymore. I can finally move on with an awesome piece of equipment that such as had such a controvertial yet incredibly awesome item.

While in lower jeuno waiting for a party, I was reading the chatter...the casino's...the ******** about the Emperor, Argus, Lizzy,etc. I notice someone saying that the RMS' are now doing something new: charging ppl to join their pt for 500k-1mil for the Empress Pin. The allegedly camp it non-stop and always claim it, throwing it away if nobody pays their ransom fees. So, being the avid hater of RMS' and everyone else who do nothing but try to have a monopoly over NM's, I set out to see it. I've never camped a NM yet, so I thought it would be fun. I got to the area of the trees, and behold, there must have been 15 people visibly camping and killing placeholders. There were a few who occasionally had to refresh their invis. I nuked PH for about an hour, and decided I wouldn't use it even if I got it so I decided to leave.
Before I warped I did a /sea Kof (a favorite RMS' group on Lakshmi) and found none. I tried Rose* and found none. In fact, I didn't find any known RMS' in the dunes at all doing what many ppl in Lower Jeuno sad was happening. Rumors are always abound in Jeuno, but I had to investigate this one. So I wonder, has anyone even personally seen this happen? It very well could happen, and I'm not sure what the GM could do about it. Sure, it would be a very sad and un-profitable venture for the RMS' to uptake, but as usual the GM's wouldn't do much, I don't think.

I camped the emperor last night and it was nice to see people actually trying to make him pop instead of the stupid gilsellers that would just stand there. I got him after awile (not sure i dont ever look at time) sadly didnt get the hairpin it was the first time i camped him because i figured now gilsellers wouldnt ruin the camping experience for everyone

campage went UP and price has gone up 200k , people cant claim it either way -_-; whether they want empress or emperor, and now emperor is a more excluded drop , every1 jacked up the price O_O
he doesn't drop the emp pin any more he drop the emperess and other pin is in a hnm

BS? wouldnt it be BS that you are talking about having 2 pins, can still GET a third, while the vast majority of us have to spend 900k (on fenrir at least) or more for one, since earning it isnt an option because it was completely taken over by big time campers much like yourself. if you really think this game will nev er be the same because the price of emperor pin will now drop hardcore because people can just grab some LS buddies and go earn an empress pin, like you're SUPPOSED to (remember when things were FUN?)

Strangly enough on Lakshmi the price of Emperor Pin has almost doubled. 1.7mil right now. Doen't matter to me though, I got my Empress Pin last night and sold my Emperor for a nice profit being I purchased it when it was around 500k.

Decided I would try and outcamp VE... turns out nobody was there. At all, no parties leveling no campers. After ten mins, it was all over... now I never have to do this again. ^^
