General InformationLottery spawn of the Damselflies that spawn from (D-8) through (F-8) in Valkurm Dunes PH Info from SmokesalotThe PH is the mob the prevents the NM from spawning until it is killed. In the case of the Valkurm Emperor, it is one of the Damselflies that roams about Whitesands beach in Valkurm Dunes. What a kagillion people refuse to take into their minds is that VE has ONE placeholder, and that's it. Go to the beach with Widescan ability, and position yourself at the peak of the sandhill just northwest of the pack of trees in the middle of the beach. Pull up WS, and you'll see something like this. Damselfly Goblin Mugger Goblin Leecher Goblin Gambler Sniper Sniper Sniper Sniper Damselfly<~~~~~PH!!! This is a truncated list, but as you can see the PH is located in the set of four Damselflies between the leeches and the snipers, and is always the top one. These flies are always grouped in four, and are always located between the snipers and the thread leeches. When VE pops your list will look like this... Sniper Sniper Sniper Damselfly Damselfly Damselfly Valkurm Emperor Thread Leech Thread Leech Thread Leech Thread Leech VE always pops on the bottom of the list. If there aren't four flies in the list, that means someone else is killing them. Either nearby parties, or other campers. If this is happening, you have to figure out a way to nab yourself the PH, and be 100% sure that the fly you kill is the PH. After that, go ahead and let the other campers waste their time killing the other flies. Valkurm Emperor Special Attacks

The hairpin has risen to over 1.5 million on Lakshmi over the past month. I really regret selling mine for 600k two months ago. I swear, next server migration I am so leaving Lakshmi. The prices are insane!

this nm is next to impossible on Seraph now from a gang called "kiss", they have a person with voke at "every" spawn point i beleive and they camp it all the time

I remember when I was a 30 mnk and My freind Kuik was too.. We saw this when trying to lvl. HOLY **** we used 2hrs and everything and died it was so close though.......................... i was half dead though when it spawned. If we were full we could have taken it.

hey im lvl 35sam/thf15 i dont think i can take it anybody think i could i noticed somebody saying they soloed it as 34 mnk if you dont think i could take it maybe some sugestions as to when i could

35 is generally considered the overall minimum to beat it, and sometimes envolves using your 2-hour. However, your sub job is gimped, thus that's a few extra stat points you'll be missing out on ... not a lot, but might be worth considering.
A thief can solo it at 35 with bloody bolts and sleep bolts, perhaps one or two acid bolts as well. A SAM? Well, I just don't know.
The more important question to ask is not "can I solo it as a 35 SAM/THF" but actually "Can I even claim it as a 35 SAM/THF." The answer is yes ... perhaps 1/10 spawns. There are over 20 spawn areas. You'd be lucky to see 4 at any given time on screen, which means you're only seeing 20% the places he can pop. 20% ... if you're lucky. Even if he pops in one of those places, you still have to beat out the other people that are standing within view, and the thieves, rangers and beasties and/or anybody with widescan that has flee/powder boots that saw it on scan and are running 3x faster than you towards it. Thus, the 20% likelihood that you'd even see it and if you actually claimed 50% of those spawns drops you down to about 1/10.
If you're intent on camping him with these jobs, bring a friend or two, thus increasing your chances of claiming in several areas and guaranteeing you won't die.

Current drop to claim streak is 0/11 (not overall, overall is like 22/46) ... very odd.

I saw Emp today on Leviathan server... a pt of noobs (lvl 18-19) voked it and then all died... but rite before they died... they called for help... and a STUPID high lvl killed it.... WHILE IN CALL FOR HELP!!!.... why not wait til last man dies and take claim... all i can say is F*CKING NOOBS!!!!!!!!!
today was my first NM hunt and i got so lucky today, then god hated me><! i was camping VE with a lvl 58sam and a 30blm/rng(me) and blunda AND all her bots got d/c or something so it was fair game. we were feeling pretty lucky since blunda was gone, and we did get lucky. 3 hours later it pops a spells distance away from me. here comes the bad part, i thot it was a regular one and after 2 hours of OMG OMG OMG OMG A FLY!!!!! and always seeing Damselfly, i figured it wasnt this sucker. im on Ps2 so the names are harder to read. i see him on widescan, hit track and off i go, turns out the one i saw was VE, my poison was 93%done when PEWM!!!! i see a voke hit it, hoping it was my friends but it wasnt >.< he was in trouble due to a link, everyone seemed to be hoping he'd die so they could get the claim. too bad for them i was there >.> i thundered the linking fly and then my sam friend came and pwned the fly. he didnt get the drop tho ><. later that day blunda and her bots come back, i see it on widescan, but it was claimed by one of her bots, no drop ;_; i will continue hunting this, I NEED IT FOR MY THF!! my names Cheddar on Asura if u wanna help with this or lizzy gimme a /tell ^o^ and of course if u need the drop ill gladfully help u get one

I am on Leviathan and people are usually nice. Except for the VE hunters. (read my signature) As soon as I went back for my friend's Hairpin, everyone was like go away and let someone else get the drop. Needless to say it didn't pop near me. BTW I used voke to get it, it seems voke is the best . Edit: I went hunting today, it popped in front of my pal's face. Too bad he was afk... Edit2: Some advice, don't always use widescan. I could've had him today if I wasn't in widescan.

hey, me and 3 LS guys (me, 17rng/8war, 40rng/20war, rng36/18war, whm47/21rng) all in a triangle spamming widescan (the WHM is with me so if i find it i wont get pwned O.O) were on asura and mad gil sellers there >.< we all need a pin, anyone think we can get a few?

I was out the other day just sitting around with homies cause they were looking for it. It pop'ed and the KISS gil sellers got it... if you are in Seraph server you know what i mean... those @S$h0les!!
Woot! was runnin around the dunes helpin some ls members skillup today, this little biddy pops right in front of me, i voked it, got claim and killed it rather easily as a 34monk/17war. No drop, but considering it was the first nm i've ever seen, i was amazed regardless. I used Dodge, Focus, and boost every time it became available. As a side note, some Azzhat said i suck b/c i claimed it.... wouldn't that mean that he sucks for not claiming it? XD

I have tried to put down all of the verified, no poo facts about the Emp down on paper. I have made version 1.0 on how to best kill the Emp using a Thf/Rng (will help anybody, but geared towards the most commong job combo for camping).
The guide is not 100% complete, but is shaping up nicely. Please feel free to read it and to add a comment. Any facts that I do not have already are requested to make this a better guide. (no unproven whacky theories about Will-o-Wisp spawn predicting when Emp spawn will be, or if a seagul poops on a gil seller then that means the next 5 Emps will drop Pin 100%!)
Again, this is factual info only, as well my personal strategies that have helped me claim the Emp about 75% of the time, 42/55 with 22 hairpin drops.

VE is my source of gil on Valefor and I have to say this is the most complete information I've ever seen on him. Anyone can significantly improve their camping strategies using this guide. I'd add more but.. 'fraid I'd start to ramble on >.> Once again, great job on the guide ^^

Camped this thing today, and it popped 3 times in 3 and a half hours, but it is damned hard to get without widescan. I had flee but never knew when it'd popped until I'd seen someone else flee'ing, and by that point someone else had got it.
Oh, and the bird's above the sea are to do with the spawn time. You see them in the sky, get ready, it's coming.

I don't have flee I got him twice and almost a third time within 3 days of barely camping him. But you are right, flee is almost a must.

I think so, I have seen some WHMs taking VE on w/o any problem. Stoneskin, Dia, Paralyze and Slow and you would only need to hit it with your staff/club and Cure and Stoneskin when needed ^^;

anyone have any tips for beating the emp, people told me i would have a hard time fighting it, im a 45thf/22mnk. so do you think i can do it?
Bring some bloody bolts with you is the only thing I can recommend ^^; You would have a normal time, not really a hard time with him at lv45 ^^;
Holy god, today (after a total of 20 or so hours of camping) I got my first claim. It popped directly in front of me as if to say "Fui...your gear is downright embarassing. Here, have some of my 1337 goodness" so I charm him as soon as I get out of shock, and it's really killing me. So I ask a BLM/WHM for help, and he Cure IIIs me twice. I take it down after a long time, and I get the drop! 1/1 after so long!
Important: This guy IS hard. At level 45, although I had gimped gear and a level 1 subjob, I don't think I could have taken him (Taru). Be warned, he is twice as strong in HP, attack and defense(as in, he hits for twice as much, has twice as much HP and you hit for a lot less, plus he double attacks) as the surrounding Damselflies.

At lv46 I go with my ... aketon (DEF:1), which makes my total DEF around 90. He can hit you hard with DEF like mine, but he can hardly hit me actually (EVA 130, uncapped). The best thing you want to do if you are a THF and not high lv (50+) is to bring some bloody bolts with you ^^; . With them, VE is easy for you to take ^^;
