Leshy Picture

More commonly spelled Leshii or Leszi, in Slavic folklore, it was a group of woodland spirits that would protect forests and the animals that dwelled therein. They were said to be able to take the form of any plant or animal, as well as human form. When in human form, they resembled peasants, only they had glowing eyes and backwards shoes. Some tales depicted them as a giant, talking mushroom. They appear as tall men sometimes covered in black hair with hooves and horns in tales after the arrival of Christianity. Anyone who befriended a Leshy would be taught magic. Farmers and shepherds frequently made pacts with the Leshy to protect their crops and herd. They were slightly mischievous in their ends to protect the woods, such as hiding any woodchopper's axe they came across. Leshy would die in October with the Autumn and revive in April with the Spring. Leshonki (more commonly spelled Leshonky) are the children of Leshy and Leshachikha are the wives of the Leshy.

Respawn: 5 min.

Links with Leshachika

If left alive the NM's "Colorful Leshy" or "Defoliate Leshy" may spawn. This may take up to 24 hours to occur.

There is an NM here that only pops if the placeholder Leshy is left up. These drop nothing that cannot be gained from other treants. The NM is Colorful Leshy and drops Harvest Earing. If left up long enough (assumed 24 hrs) it will change to Defoliate Leshy, which in addition to having a higher drop rate can also drop a Heims Earing (the same one you can get from assault).

Colorful Leshy can take up to 24hrs to pop (has been seen sooner), but if the placeholder is disturbed in any way the timer will reset. You cannot damage or even agro it, it WILL reset the pop timer.

The 8 of these mobs are in the G-6 pos of Lufaise Meadows. They have a 5 minute respawn.

The saplings in the area link to them via sound.

A Lightning elemental also spawns there during weather.

There are multiple logging points in the area

Dryad Root is the most common drop, followed by Mistletoe and Puffballs, and the rest are pretty rare (haven't gotten anything else, though haven't killed more then 30 of them).
Indeed do drop Petrified Log

3/3/2006... They do indeed Drop Petrified lumber...though its exceedingly rare from what my LSmates tell me. i myself just got it within 5 kills. Although that was with /thf. i have since killed 30+ and the drop rate for all of their items is dismal. So, if you are interested in farming them, and are curious about the petrified logs, that do have them...They are just stingy about letting you have them.

Just because you didn't get a drop, doesn't mean it doesn't drop.

In case you care:
"Derived from 'les', which means 'the forest'. The Slavs lived in forested areas and it is obvious that they would a spirit of the forest. Leshy had the shape of a human being with long hair, as a priest. His blood was blue, this gave his cheeks the blue appearance that it had. He had fiery green pop out eyes and bushy, grass-like eyebrows. His beard was long and green. Some legends described him as having a red scarf and having his left shoe on his right foot. Leshy had no shadow. In the center of the forest he was gigantic, but on the edges he turned into a tiny dwarf-like character able to hide under a leaf.

He was very possessive of his property of barely left his kingdom. Leshy enjoyed leading peasants and hunters entering the forest onto the wrong path and eventually returning them to the spot they started. Leshy wasn't totally wicked and mostly let the poor mislead people go. There was a secret to escaping him. One had to sit under a tree, undress, and put your clothes back on backwards. You also had to put you left shoe on your right foot. Leshy respected people who did this and let them go.

A certain legend says that Leshy was the son of a demon and a human woman. Another believes him to have a family. He had a wife called Leshachikha, and children, the Leshanki. Leshy and his family lived together in the forest performing their mischievous deeds together."

More Slavic mythology, for her pleasure.

These will link with the smaller Leshachikhas. I was fighting one and little Leshachikha decided to defend his big brother Leshy.

Not sure if they will link with other Leshy's as it was far away when I pulled it.

Leshy's do NOT link. However.. the small little saplings DO. On the plus side, they are weaker then the Leshy's.. But it's still annoying when you're fighting an "easy prey" and a "too weak" decides it wants to play as well...

To give you a better idea on the level, a Mithra Lv 59 RNG/NIN cannot solo these even though they rate Easy Prey w/ Low Evasion. I found that out the hard way. Utsusemi, Shadowbind, Barrage, Eagle Eye Shot, and Sidewinder 2x wasn't enough... it killed me >_< /fume

When I fought these, Leshachikha's would commonly link. I was kind of surprised at first, but I guess Sapling and Treants are int the same "family".
