Vana'diel Bestiary: Vuu Puqu the Beguiler  

I got this about a half hour ago, 1/1 nice piece of gear for my bst.

I was in Giddeus farming Yag necklaces with a friend (Norg fame and all that) and I decided to take a side-trip to camp Vuu for my freshly unlocked BST. I wasn't entirely sure if the piper in the spawn area was the PH or not, since he literally spawned on top of me after killing the second round of Yags and I didn't get a good look at what else had surfaced.

The fight was completely one-sided. I held off on buffs just to see how tough he was, and as a 32WAR/16MNK I tore him to pieces without using boost, dodge, berserk or even a mithkabob. He (it?) only dropped the Bonze's Circlet and no whistle, so it's definitely not a 100% drop (although from what I read the rates are pretty high.) Anyway, thinking that I got the rarer and more expensive of the two drops, I finished farming until our gobbie bags were full and warped back to Jeuno. Current prices on Remora:

Bonze's Circle- 2k
Bird Whistle- 3k
Yagudo Necklace - 500gil (included for sake of comparison)

This NM is really not worth camping on my server.

ooo never seen this one b4 is he a lottery pop or not? if he is what do i supposed to kill?

I took a few days to camp Hoo Mjuu, Juu Duzu and this guy and I ended up with 4 whistles, 4 light soleas, 1 bow (Juu Duzu's), 1 deodorize scroll and 8 or 9 mitts. It was like 2, maybe 3 hours per day. Maybe it depends on the times I'm playing, early, early for an hour or late at night 2-3 hours (european time) but there wasn't that many campers and those who were there didn't seem to know what to look for.

Even though there was others there (some seemed to do skill-ups) it was only me that killed the Piper and it was also me that got claim when Vuu Puqu spawned. First time I was a little bit worried about this guy, somehow I got the idea that he was hardest of the three. I was MNK around 30. And the surrounding Yagudo's were still aggressive. So first time I let someone else take him to see what it could be like. Second time I hundred fisted just in case, was gonna log off anyway right after. But he was really the easiest of the three.

I stayed around mainly to get a Monster Signa but thought I could see if I could get a circlet off this guy too.

During the end of my stay my son needed a whistle too so he came out to join me. He was out harvesting and crafting so he had a minimum of equipment (THF 37). After only twenty minutes or so he got too brave and took on to many of the Yagudo's at once and got poisoned and died. I stayed and not long after Vuu Puqu turned up and he could get his whistle.

(After I left the area to go back to do some missions my son came back one night and got a Monster Signa too, actually two but the first one he was in pt with someone so they sold it and split the money... hmm... I know I can borrow his if I ever need but I like to get these things by myself.)

it was more like 2 hours but it was easy i solo'd it with a 31rdm/15thf and got the bird whistle on the first drop

thats a sad sad story next time you will make sure you dont have a treasure box over your name b4 you warp >.<

I had logged off in Giddeus for what ever reason I dont remember. Anyways soon as I log back in..BAM!.. he's right in front of me. So I engage in combat and eventually win and get the drop. Yeah. Except during my fight I got quite and few Yags on me. I decided to run and got out of Giddeus with 14/736 hp left. Very close. But o well I got the drop! Did this as a lvl 37 BRD so right after i got out of giddeus i equip the Bird Whistle and walk away happy. He wasn't hard soloed him without songs, just melee.

one of my friend and i are on a litle NM hunt today so we have killed bomb king dio and gog so far and i just killed this one 1/1 on him and my friend killed mjuu but only got mitts so i have a great day so far ^^

im 3/3 on him while i was searching for kazham keys as lvl 24. he's gotta be easier than 21-22 cus NM are usually stronger than other monsters at their lvl

Killed him when helping sopmeone get thier key (even though they didnt need it.. just though hey your farming and we have a small party lets get your key now. youll need it in 5 levels)

Anyway..

I got the Bird Whistle. Seems pretty cool. Not worth much on Fairy though <1000 gil I think.

Not worth it for the hassle as a lvl 30 Job. All the other yags in teh area will aggro at that level and if you are a mage you are going to have trouble getting spells off with all the damage you take with hits from those pesky Votarys

25THF/11RDM owned this guy while soloing for my key.

Was a close battle was down to my 2hr but he went down....

i'd say it was a good fight at this lvl but i'd do it again...

I got the whistle ...took me like 2 hours to solo for my key tho lol

I took him as a lvl 33 War solo. I was just messing around fighting Votarys and then he popped. I disengaged the Votary I was fighting and engaged him. Had one heal from a passing WHM, slaughtered him and then the Votary. Got the whistle.

He is cake

So my WHM45 friend and I (THF43) are in Giddeus killing things to help a BLM25 get his Giddeus key, hunting in the enclosed area where Vuu Puqu spawns and the tunnel beyond it. There was another camper in the area who offered to help, so long as we didn't touch the NM. I'm like, screw that. We're 43THF/45WHM/25BLM, we don't need the help of a guy wearing LV10 armor. (And yes, he was indeed wearing LV10 armor.) I do offer to let him join, IF we are allowed a fair lot at the treasure that Vuu Puqu drops. He gets extremely mad at that and stops communicating for a while. XD Anyway, a few minutes later, my WHM sees Vuu pop while the camper is killing a Votary, and she Flashes it. Bam! Pwned. Vuu never even got a chance to use Soul Voice before he was killed, AND we got the drop. I won the lot. :D Easiest 3k I ever made. And after it was dead, the camper ran off whining like a little girl, even though he could have had better odds at the drop if he hadn't been so greedy. :)

klilled him twice, gotten whistle both times. first time was killing everything for a key. second time i was just messing around and suddenly he was next to me. massacred him and got whistle. so it seems to drop every time.

I think that there may be a Piper back there that spawns as a placeholder. There's one back there all the time. Only saw the NM one time while getting a key, and it only dropped the circlet. Maybe I'll have to try for the whistle then :)

Heh, I was just going key hunting when this guy spawned. Our party killed him with ease, and he dropped the bird whistle.

Just to state my experience with this guy... I'm a lvl 30/12 MNK/WAR. Was in Giddeus getting a key and saw this guy. I'd read the previous post (in which a lvl 45 DRG got crushed) so was a bit wary. Nevertheless went for it (reckless by nature). Mithkabob, Dodge, Focus, then Hundred Fists. The guy went down practically without a fight (hit me once for 21 pts). Gave me 12 exp. I would estimate he has around 800HP. Contrary to the previous posts, the lvl rating seems pretty accurate.

this sh*t gives +3 chr sold for 3.5k

It spawns every few hours and hes not that hard. lvl 25 theif(me), 24 whitemage, and a 27 theif easily beat him :-/ He drops a circlet that i think has his name in it. Its defense 7 and mind+2 i guess its an ok item. oh and i couldnt find it at the AH so i have no idea how much it sells for.

how long Vana'Diel time does it take for him to respawn?
