Vana'diel Bestiary: Ashmaker Gotblut  

Started camping this guy while farming in the Grohtto(sp?). Got him twice but i only got the robe once. 40k down, 400k to go until i can get my Kote! -_-

Ok, since my last post, ive camped ashmaker another 15 times just for fun. So ive gotten the robe 2/31. There are 4 placeholders. He can spawn anywhere in H9 and the bottom-right corner of g9. The placeholders spawn approx every 7 minutes (earth time). I was wrong about my earlier theory about spawntimes, because i didnt realize that lower g9 orc spawn was a placeholder. Train and kill all 4 placeholders and check back about 4 gametime-hours later. Ashmaker uses manafont halfway thru, and is approx level 17-18. Easily soloable at 23+. but placeholders link and will hand you your @$$ eventually.

Any 45+ level thfs who camp this thing repeatedly, i'd like to know what droprate for robe is with TH2.

THIS IS A GREAT NM especially since last time i sold my 10-12 wands from him i made 100k (wands all of a sudden were selling for 10k) im also 3/15 on him got robes on 1st kill, 2nd kill, and 9th kill and i promise you it well worth going to the wallbreaker and Barricador spawns while you wait for him to respawn ive made 300k from doing this in a matter of 3 days

I was camping this guy for like five minutes and the room was empty before a neckchopper appeared. as i jumped the chopper the text Ashmaker Gotblut starts casting stonega appears and i nearly crapped myself.he had popped right next to me and i didn't even know it until he linked on me! Only got a wand off of him.

When im in the hole from buying too much fancy gear, I almost always take a few hours to go camp Ashmaker with my 30MNK/15THF. First of all, with THF sub, the orc placeholders drop handsome amounts of gil (40-50 each), and at lvl 30, you have no problem taking on 10 at a time. Second of all, he has a great spawn rate (once an hour), thirdly, he always at least drops the Hermit's Wand (easy 3K) and the greatest... I rarely have any competition. In four huors or so, I've made about 20K from the place holders, plus 4 wands to sell at the AH. Thats 32K in 4 hours. In addition, I've gotten the Priest's Robe 1 out of 5 times, and that lines my pockets pretty well and holds me over until I spend it all on fancy new clothes. All in all, if you need money quick and cant wait for an ultra rare drop from Jack or LL, I recommend taking a shot at Ashmaker.

this guy is starting to annoy me but its fun camping this guy, i'm 0/3 on this guy, camped him with my lvl 46 pld/ lvl 15 thf, no voke but had flash on my side. i got him three times in a row and never got the robe, but i did get the wand all three times, thats about 4k in bastok. the first time i was a lone hunting him, second time like 2-3 ppl came and the third time there were like 5 other ppl camping him and i got him. he always seemed to spawn in that little open area.i'll get the robe eventually :)

ok whenever i camp him i camp the wallbreecher and barricader in outpost also. i kill wallbreecher and barricader (about an hr and 20 mins on them) run in kill ashmaker (usually spawns within a half hr) then back to the other two. so in an hr and a half, i kill all 3 and repeat. not a bad source of income, but there are much faster ways to make gils. (spook)

Well, ashmaker is pretty easy to camp, and i got a theory about his spawnrate, which has recently become very unpredictable. Most of the time dear old ash spawns at aprox 1hr +- 15 min. But, if you dont kill the placeholders, he aint gonna spawn, however, he doesnt spawn IN PLACE of one of his placeholders. All 3 place holders will still spawn when he pops. So if your an experienced NM hunter and you kill all 3 placeholders, dont walk away from your comp for 6 minutes, he can spawn at any time. My theory is that the server counts the number of placeholders killed, to determine spawn time, and then runs a small percentage chance that he will not spawn that round at all. Thus accounting for those no-spawn hours. Just a guess.

also, the drop rate (no thf sub) for the robe seems to be about 1 in 15 or so. Either that or im just not that lucky :)

I originally camped good ol' Ashey to get a robe for my WHM. Camped with my 30BLM/15THF off and on for 3 days, got 5 wands, and finally a robe! (/joy) He poped every hour like clockwork, and was virtually uncamped. At the time, the price at AH was 30k.

Recently, I noticed the price had increased to 50k, and decided to give him another shot to sell the robe for spell money. It seems the spawn rate has been changed. I saw a variance from 1-2 hours, (and I know I didn't miss him) Killed him 10 times in total, and no robe. Finally gave up in frustration when I had made 30k from the wands alone, not to mention the gil from the other orcs/misc loot.

Camping this guy is a waste of time, there are much quicker ways of getting gil (it would take less time to farm the gil and buy the robe) (though there is the satisfaction of having camped your own gear if you plan to use it.)

but... for those of you who insist that you're hidden "luck stat" is uber, here are some tips.

The area marked on the map is correct, but not big enough... picture an imaginary line from the wall in the middle of the room to the north east exit, anything southeast of this line (and the wall itself) is fair game. So kill any orc in this area.

There are actually 4 placeholders, but sometimes other orcs wander into this area, so I always killed them too just to be safe.

I prefered to round up all the placeholders, and AOE them all at once... that way, I could leave my comp for 9 min. and come back just in time to see them all pop up again.

When ever I get on in the morning and I am near Ghelshba I go hunt him. Usually nobody is there and the room is full of orcs. I kill all the orcs in the area and wait for the next group to spawn. Almost everytime Ashmaker will appear.
I have not gotten the robe yet though T_T

I camped this fellow for a little while to get a friend of mine the priest's robe. i was a level 20/10 THF/WAR. The neckchoppers and grunts that pop around that area were actually more troubling for me due to constant linking. I called in a little backup from my LS, so I had a level 34 THF killing all the placeholder orcs whilst i waited patiently. Long story short, Ashmaker popped, and i proceeded to wale on him. Strangely enough, he didn't manafont, or even cast a single spell on me. Guess I was lucky. Nevertheless, if you're level 20, and you hit him fast, he's no challenge. i'm 1/1 on him, but i gave the robe away. The only advice I can give for this NM is to sit in his pop zone while you have someone kill the orc placeholders. There are a lot of miners in the area who wouldn't hesitate to slay him if they see him.

I waited for a bout 1:30hr and he finally shows up. Im feeling pumped but then i keep voking different guys and i finally get to gotblut. I don't have much life left so i call for help....ON GOTBLUT!!! I was cursing my self for a half hour because of that.... I'm such a moron

He's lucky i almost died because it used manafont
and keep doing blizzard on me (>_<)
