Historical Information

In Slavic folklore, the Vodyanoi (also spelled Vodonoi, Wódjanoj, Vodyanoy) were male water spirits who could change form and were said to live in whirlpools or underwater palaces made from materials salvaged from sunken ships. The most common form they took was an old man with a green beard and covered in muck. Many drownings were attributed to Vodyanoi. The bodies would not be retrieved out of fear it would anger the Vodyanoi by taking his "spoils" from him. Locals appeased Vodyanoi by giving them the first fish caught or pouring butter in the water.

I was riding the barge with a pld friend of mine, and I was whm. Both of us were lvl 52, and we killed it no problem. Maybe we were lucky, but it was down in a few minutes. Nothing dropped, but it was still pretty easy. Anyways, good luck to anyone camping him.

I use to camp this bugger alot,
I went 2/5 on him, and The longest spawn I remember was 25 hours and shortest was close to 12, I think its a random night lotto on the boat, It always arrgoed me on my DRK, 74, Always a pretty long kill, if not killed before the boat lands it will repop if its still night, if its not still night, it goes back to lotto.

I just met this pretty ugly (^^) NM, on the S => to Central Landing, by a foggy night.

Here's my data, if it can help some of our hard-working scholars ^^

Vana'Day : 2/9/993, Lightsday 3:16
New Moon (5%)
Earth, March 22 2006, 11:48 pm.
(no elemant this day).

Well, the NM was right here as soon as the barge left the pier, along with a flytrap.

I was RDM 60 with my Sub THF, and, of course, no drop :-(

Good Hunting to all,
A.

yesterday, i was on the boat as DRG50 with my SMN41 friend and it was the day after minitalon's drop ^^ we were hoping for the orc but since Voddy popped and we were the only ones, we tryed him and pwn him lol 1/1 on the Nokizaru Hakama ^^, funny that the same ls shud get the claim twice in a row AND the drop. I came back today and was on the boat for 5 hours, didnt get any of the NM pops ; ;

I was camping Stubborn night before last and saw Vodyanoi pop on the barge. I didn't have the capability to kill him since I was only THF47 as the time, but I was the only one on the barge. He depopped at 4:00 as expected.

I asked my LS what happens in cases like this, if a timed NM pops and depops, how that affects the timer, and I only got one response - it basically acted like a TOD for the mob. Well, I went back the next day, again mostly trying to get Stubborn (this time on my WHM), and Vodyanoi popped a full 25 hours after his pop the previous night.

Still can't get Stubborn. :P I claimed him once but wasted too much time dealing with the wyvern, and so I only got Stubborn down to 10% before we docked.

For the record, I killed Vodyanoi as a WHM68/SMN34 without much problem. I wasn't doing much damage over time with melee, so I decided to pour it all into Banish and Holy. It was Darksday, so that didn't help, but I did manage to kill him without a great ordeal. Any other day and I probably would have killed him without much tribulatioun.

And I got exactly zilch on drops. :P Those NIN pants are 4M on Bismarck and almost nobody ever camps this mob.

He popped again this morning. About 13.5 hours after the last time I killed him. Wasn't able to kill it as WHM/THF - it took too long. :/

Currently 0/3 out of 4 days camping.

I don't think it's a 21-24 hour spawn.
Tuesday: Killed around 4pm EST (started camping at 1pm, stopped camping at 7pm)
Thursday: Killed around 3pm EST (started camping at noon, stopped camping at 8pm)
Friday: Killed around 6pm EST (started camping 1pm EST, stopped after I killed it)

Friday blows the 21-24 hour window theory away, having spawned 27 hours later.

I didn't camp it over the weekend.

Monday: camp from 1pm EST to 11pm EST, no spawn.
Came back at 3am EST for one last trip before logging out for the night. A JP WHM gets off the boat.....with a Nokizaru Hakama in her bazaar (for 3mil, was sold on AH 4 hours later for 3.5mil)

So I'm guessing it spawned in the 4 hours that I left to help my LS.

Again, blowing the 21-24 hour spawn theory away, your spawn time doesn't go from 5pm to 3am in 2 days time.

My theory:
It has the same spawn time as Argus, 18-30 hours.

It's the only spawn window that I think fits compared to other NMs.
If SE was really cruel, then it could be possible the Orc NM resets the timer on this one (ala leech king)
lol

I camped this NM for a good while, I'm 5/11 on the Hakama, but I still have yet to see the War Hose drops o.O

camping the orc for my gargoyle boots, i took him as 48DRG/24WHM. I casted protect, shell, and blink on myself, popped a sushi, and claimed him with paralyze (i was far enough away that he didn't aggro when he popped). I got a slow off too before he started hitting me, ~50 per hit on my tarutaru self. I survived blood weapon ok (what a joke lol), and his WS's didn't hit THAT hard. I had him down to about 1/5 life when he took me out, i ran outta MP for healing breath. Damn i shoulda rested after casting buffs lol. Owell, definitely soloablo by lv48drg/mage, a yag drink would make it alot safer though just in case he lasts a little longer. Had I been one level higher with Penta Thrust, I'm sure he woulda been dead sooner, but, what can you do. I had fun ^^ Good luck on this guy

I had to rate you down because this is a doomed, not an orc, and the orc is a Dragoon, not a Dark Knight anyways. I don't see how this has any relevance whatsoever and how or where you got your information from.
Your gargoyle boots are 2-3 topics another way dude =/

Adjusted those ratings cuz you showed a lack of brain activity.

The orc he was referring to spawns on the same boat, and he killed this DRK Doomed while camping it. It doesn't take a friggin rocket surgeon to figure that out, but mostly and more to the point, you were just an *** about it.
RE: *&^%#
# Jan 15 2006 at 5:57 AM Rating: Default
1. Being an *** is my job.
2. Obviously I knew what he was talking about and that the orc spawned on the same boat. I checked up the topic and have been researching this. I have seen people get rated far down for worse, you're being an *** too.
3. I suppose everyone thinks you're some sort of hero for chewing me out and everyone rates you up and me down, way to go chumpion (Sorry, I had to :D)

In case you care:
"'Voda' means 'water'. Therefore Vodyanoi was the spirit of all forms of water like lakes, pools, rivers and little streams. He was considered to be very dangerous. He especially enjoyed living near mill wheels.

Some pictured Vodyanoi as having a human face, paws, horns, a tail and glowing eyes of fire. Some gave them the characteristics of a black creature with large red eyes and a huge nose. To some he was an old man with a color changing beard or a large fish-like thing covered in water plants. Sometimes he was even a she, with the aspect of a naked woman.

Although he was mortal his age was said to change with the phases of the moon. The Vodyanoi disliked humans. During the day he would rest in his crystal palace. At night he caught anyone found bathing and enslaved him or her to work in his palace."

I decided to go camp this one nite to see if I could I got the claim and the Drop 1/1 but the boat zoned before me adn my partner could lot and it was lost. Thats so lame..... I dont believe its a 21-24 hour pop because I waited till the next day and camped it again no pop. And the day after I camped it from 12-15 hours and still no pop, this is one of the worst NM's I've ever encountered I think this NM is pure luck honestly so 1/3 attempts 1 claim 1 drop others nada !!! Its a load of Crock !!!

I know the spawn time I know the spawn time.

It's 24 hour spawn time, how do I know? I camped him 12 hours yesterday, killed him an hour into my camp, waited, waited, no show, had a jp friend camp him the rest of the time, then of course next day, 24 hours after I killed him the first time, BAM pop.

Nothing like monopolizing a spawn time. Too bad I'm 0/2 on his drops. :(
what i heard
# Oct 17 2005 at 5:25 PM Rating: Default
this si what i heard about his spawn.

allegedly it's a 1hr spawn, BUT it only spanws at night. that means that if you're there and it done'st spawn, you have to wait until whenever he would spawn falls during night-time again... or something like taht

so that's what i heard
Got em

So there I was showing my LS buds this new area, We got on the ferry South > North. and as Soon as the zone loaded. There he was. We killed him in a matter of seconds [56PLD,46RDM,45WHM] we burned very little MP, battle was so fast I almost missed my screenshot. NO DROP ><. As far as a spawn time 24 hr. I cannot agree with that. I got back on the ferry South > North the very same afternoon looking for another fight see what he dropped. lev 74 TFH claimed him. >< Same deal he popped as we entered the ferry zone.
running out of time?

killed him last night. he first popped on the ferry from central to south landing but i didnt kill him fast enough as a 50NIN. so im like noooo i hope that wasnt my only chance. so i take the ferry back from south to central and luckily, there he was ready for his beating. he was up as soon as the ferry started. he took about 5-10 minutes to kill as 50NIN/WAR. hes got quite a bit of hp. didnt get drop of course -.- just 47 exp.

Just camped him for 9 straight hours... no pop. There is a very easy way to camp this guy tho. Get on at South Landing, if the trip occurs during 20:00-4:00, get off at Central Landing. Go afk for 36 mins, or kill tigers and flytraps... Get on ferry, it leaves at roughly 19:50. Rinse, repeat. This way, not ONLY do you save a few gil on barge rides (not much, but every bit helps), but you can also go away for 36 mins and not have to worry about consistently getting back on the ferry. If you get stranded at North Landing, you are screwed until 1 entire game day passes, which means you miss a possible spawn. Follow these steps and you will always be on the right ferry.

when I was around Lv50-52 or so I decided to take some rides on the Channel here with my gf and this thing popped. Since I'm a BLM and didn't have anything to recover MP at the time, it was a challenging fight. >< She was in her Lv30's so she couldn't really damage it much, but she managed to keep me healed. When we got back on the ferry, a JP 75WHM came on too, and he offered help and we killed it. :D Got the hakama (unfortunately this was a while ago and that gil is loooooong gone. Sold for 1.3mil to a friend, wich is the price of it about now)
