Historical Information

In Slavic folklore, the Vodyanoi (also spelled Vodonoi, Wódjanoj, Vodyanoy) were male water spirits who could change form and were said to live in whirlpools or underwater palaces made from materials salvaged from sunken ships. The most common form they took was an old man with a green beard and covered in muck. Many drownings were attributed to Vodyanoi. The bodies would not be retrieved out of fear it would anger the Vodyanoi by taking his "spoils" from him. Locals appeased Vodyanoi by giving them the first fish caught or pouring butter in the water.

A couple questions.
# Nov 03 2008 at 10:40 AM Rating: Decent
This is definitely on my "To Camp" NM list.

There are a few questions I have for the job I should use to those that have camped it.

60PLD

Should I go /NIN or /WAR Even /THF for TH

Also, how's the drop rate on the Nokizaru Hakama if anyone knows. Thank you ^^
Total HP
# Apr 20 2008 at 6:37 AM Rating: Good
Counting up the damage I did to this NM last time we fought, the total comes out at 4038, But I did cast Dia II at the start of the fight so I'm gonna take a wild stab and say Vodyanoi has a total HP somewhere in the region of 4050-4100hp. Hope this helps ^_^

So far I'm 1/4 on the NIN pants and 0/4 with the RDM pants. 66RDM/15THF each time.

This thing popped at roughly 20:00 Van. Time, no drops for me but I'll keep camping to see if I can get any drops. Boat was the one from Central to Southern.

Pop time confirmation
# May 30 2007 at 8:11 AM Rating: Decent
12-15 hour pop, EVERY time. Had last 5 claims until was just beaten to it on Siren. Constantly camped by gilseller Suncat and when i started beating it to the claim, it became Suncat and party. 3/5 on Nin pants as 60pld/30thf. at 350k or so, i cant complain, but we need some serious competition for these gilsellers!!! If you're on Siren, keep an eye on Carpenters Landing/Phanuet Channel for Suncat and if its there, pop is due. If I'm there, I'm prolly camping Stubby... 0/1 on him ; ;

Oh, and 20 exp at lvl 60 for this :)

Also, I got this information from camping the barge, in shifts with a friend, for 5 days RL time, so it's pretty reliable. longest time between pops was 14.5hours, shortest 12.25hours

Me and a 30 blm (I was 46 pld at the time) decided it'd be fun to check out Carpenter's Landing as we had both never been there.

Well, we hopped on the boat and lo and behold, this NM popped. We both hesitated and I just said 'oh whatever' and started bashing at it. I was /nin at the time, but forgot to bring any shihei ; ;

Anyway, we got it to about 45% before the boat docked, but I'm pretty sure we would've had it if we had more time.

Ah, 500k we could've had if we only had more time :(

Was on my way to camp Vod and Stubborn again, and possibly get some fishing done. Passed a dead body on the way-poor little subless nooblet-hopped off my chocobo and gave him a raise and escorted him to the dunes.

Back enroute to the south landing checked on Meteorwhatever near Davoi and he was up 1/1 on Garde Pick, then first trip from South to Central Landing Vod popped and dropped both pants ^^

See so helping people out makes the FFXI Gods smile down on you and shower you with gifts.
Got it! 1/1

Started camping this guy at 1pm and he popped at 1am. (12 hours)

Not sure when he was killed though.
All I can say is if you plan to camp him...prepare to dedicate the whole day to camping him otherwise you'll just be wasting several hours if you plan to give up if he doesn't show up within the first few hours.

Got the Hakama item 1/1 with sub thf.

Ok so I was really bored on Saturday so I decided to go fight some Thunder Elementals in Carpenter's Landing. I get bored of fighting them (I know I get bored easily) and decided to go on the boat. Right as the boat ride starts Vodyanoi pops. I had never heard of this NM and had no clue what level it was so I casted ES + Flare on it, taking about 20% of its health. I then did Manafont and a few other Tier III and IV spells to take him down. As previously stated he will use Blood Weapon. So I kill him in about a minute and the NIN Leg gear drops. He appeared on Lightsday, 00:50, Full Moon(100%).

Ok next Vana'diel week I log on in South Carpenter's Landing. I get on boat again. Vodyanoi is there. This completely blows away the whole 21-24 spawn time thing. It had only been about 10-12 hours. I kill him and get NIN Legs to drop again(yayme). He appeared on Lightsday again, 01:00, Moon was at(52%).

So I came back NEXT Vanadiel week and checked if Vodyanoi would appear at the same time, same day, same boat, and he didnt. The moon phase was under 50% so wonder if that is a variable in whether he pops or not. I'm not sure if any of this would help anything/anybody but just thought I would share my little story.

btw if you are a mage make sure you have something to cure Diseased... its annoying.

So being slow and all I just found out about these two NM's. Two nights ago I'm riding the barges up and down the channel.

With about two minutes left on the South to Central Barge Vod pops ><

I tried my hardest but I couldn't nuke him fast enough to get the kill before the ship docked. Jumped back on and he didn't show up for the rest of the night.

Gave up on Vod and Stubborn for this week at least.

I was riding the barge on the off chance that Stubborn would pop (rly want that ring) and Vodyanoi showed up. I was 72 BRD/WHM an friend was 51 BLU/NIN. We got him down to roughly 50% when the barge docked >_<. We both got back on to see if he was still up, he was killed him an got the Nokizaru Hakuma to drop. I had no idea it sold for so much ^-^.
Vodyanoi and Stubborn Dredvodd

Killed him and got the drop today (1/3). Here's the ToD on Asura:

Vana'diel: 8/7/1005, Firesday, 3:01
Full Moon (95%)
Earth: September 18, 2006 3:52:52 PM CST

He was already spawned on the boat when i got on the south>central barge. I killed him on Firesday, but he may have already spawned on Darksday as it is the previous day and if he spawns on the central>south he'll stay on for the next ride. I think it's possible he's more likely to pop on Darksday.
Also, I don't think he has a relationship to Stubborn Dredvodd, as I killed Stubborn 29 minutes later! Alas, no drop except for the stupid tathlum belt (0/2). If you don't have hours to camp him, I'd say a good strategy might be to show up to ride the central>south barge at 20:00 on Lightsday. This will cover the window on the day that turns into Darksday. Get off and wait for 20:00 on Darksday and ride again. If I were going to take a stab at it, I'd say these 2 consecutive windows give me the best gut feeling.
I just look at the pants as a nice consolation prize for my long hours camping Stubborn Dredvodd. At least I've got something to show for it now!
Mistake!

Found this guy after trying to get to Southern area to get to Jeuno quick after Finally getting Black hose from Hercules Beetle. But he poped at last few seconds, so zoned into Southern area. I went on next boat ride, and he was still there, killed w/ ease by solo scing light w/o 2hr or Enhance Meditate equipment. No drop tho ; ;

Camped this a bit with a friend, we were there for a few hours but were really online off and on jumping ship. 75WHM, 52NIN.

Just as it was our last try I said let's wait til 4:00... I am watching the time turn 3:50 and say let's just tele out. What happens? BAM spawns... (naturally) and we claim immediately. We kill it with no trouble at all... and low and behold Nokizaru drops. We end up zoning the very second that we see it drop. The item was not dropped to either of us. We were both a bit irritated at first... perhaps I was a bit more since earlier this week we also finished a BCNM and won and just as chest was to open, timed out.

Rant and rave, woe is me huh? Surely some might think it but it is slightly irritating and I know it must have happened to many in the past. The zone part atleast is a fault of the game, I think, where we had no chance at all to lot. Whereas the BCNM is or would be more at the hands of the players to open it. I knew well enough the 'item' rule GM's gave... but had given it a shot nonetheless since I figured this situation was slightly different in play. In the end I was returned with the rehashed line of a book that they cannot grant the item that was lost.

Camped this guy for about 6-7 hours today. Missed a few boat rides occasionally but got on most of the night-time ones. He popped on the Central > South trip midway through but i didn't kill him fast enough. Was still up there when i got the boat back to Central. Killed with ease, but got no drop. I got 29exp at level 57. I guess that means he can't be level 45...

Camped this for some 5 or 6 hours this morning, the barge arrived at Central Landing around 1900, would get on it for the trip down to south landing and back again by which time it'd be coming up to 0400, disembark and go AFK for a while ^^ worked out very nicely, gave me a chance to do other stuff without being focused on seeing whether the NM would pop o_o

5 or so hours later I got on the central => south and there he was waiting for me =D Was the only one there, got claim, killed with ease (thouh he does have some hefty amount of HP) no trouble at all for me as PLD67, was hitting for around 10-15 with a little extra on top once he used Bloodweapon.

1/1 on Hakima, didn't drop anything else. Was PLD/WAR, so no TH. One of the nicer NM I've tried my hand at camping, probably because for 30 min each hour I can pop afk and do my own thing without worrying about Place holders or missing claim, will be back there tomorow to try my luck again >:D

Stupid NM, it doesn't exist I say. xD

Camped this NM for about 16++ hours on the damned boat, lol. No sign of him or the Stubborn Orc NM (Which the way I see it, they are BOTH stubborn.) I'm guessing someone killed it a little while before I arrived on the boat though. So..I might try this NM again, and I'll try to post some info on it if I can get it to pop! >_<
Spawnrate

Seems to be a very random spawnrate on this.

I remember camping it for a couple of days and I killed it a total of 5 or 6 times.

It spawned approximately 6-8hours after I killed it, but it could be that it is a random 6-? hours spawnrate and it might not be allowed to rain, I don't recall it ever raining when it spawned but I could be wrong.

somepage has it listed as a 21-24hr pop but I can't see any patchnotes saying it was changed so I would say 6-x hours where X is a random timer that may or may not be affected by the weather.

Last note; it only spawns during the night rides, and if it spawns on the ride that is only 3minutes long, it will be on the boat if you go on it again so don't worry.

I don't think that Stubborn shares a spawn with this guy but who knows. I have seen this guy 4 times now but have only seen Stubborn once.

I just want the ring from Stubborn but I usually hang out on the ferry and claim this guy if he pops.

So far I'm 2/3 on the Hakama and 0/3 Hose... now if only I could sell the Hakama >.>
