After getting mad after some stole this mob after I had killed it half way. I have never seen a mob drop red while you are fighting it.<self edited rant>..

here is the sequence of spawn over 12.5 minutes
Bronze Quadav
Silver Quadav
Garnet Quadav
Zircon Quadav/Zo'Khu Blackcloud

Zo'Khu Blackcloud spawns every 4 to 8 cycles.

UPDATE
ok there isn't a sequence. just each mobs spawns 12.5 minutes after killed. so 12.5 mins after Zircon quadav is killed Zircon Quadav/Zo'Khu Blackcloud will spawn. every 4-8 cycles

I have fought ol' Zo'Khu a total of 11 times, and each time I've gotten the Marine Hat... (3.5k*11hats=38.5k gil) but I will not be discouraged!!

I've camped this NM on 3 separate nights, keeping track of the times that he spawns and such. He will pop one to two hours after the previous pop. i.e. if he spawns at 4:00pm, then the next time he will spawn is somewhere between 5:00pm and 6:00pm. So after you kill him, you have an hour before he'll respawn (which you can use to go back to Jeuno and sell junk, or to camp the WHM nm, Ge'Dha, right next to him)

His place holders are Zircon Quadavs (BLM Quadavs), and there is only one in the area for it to spawn. They respawn about 5hours and a few minutes after the last one is killed (Vana'diel time), so I use this time to kill off the other Quadavs in the spawn area (Bronze, Silver, and Garnet). There are only one of each in that area, so if you keep the cycle going every 5 Vana'diel hours, then you should be able to prevent some links during the Zo'Khu fight.

What I have noticed though, that on occasion he will completely skip a spawn time... for instance last night I killed him at 4:25pm, and he didn't respawn until 7:45pm... as if he skipped a spawn time. I had a tight-watch on the area, so I know that nobody else killed him, but it's just something that happens sometimes (the first two nights I've camped there, I gave up after he didn't spawn for two hours (I should've waited that next hour!)). So just be patient. The most number of times I've killed him on a regular spawn schedule is 5 times... and then the 6th time got skipped. >.<

The spawn area is a bit wider than is shown on the map. It reaches as far east as the third barrier to the east of the house-type-thing, and as far north as those couple of rocks north of the house. There is another set of Quadav's to the east of the barriers, and north of the rocks, but they will not come over into the spawn area, unless they link to another Quad you're fighting near by, so don't bother killing those Zircons. The spawn area is above ground, and not in the little room below ground, so don't worry about that Zircon down there.

When you're actually fighting Zo'Khu, he likes to cast spells a bunch, and he'll use Manafont when he's at about half life. The Manafont visual event will look like a big whirlwind which goes out pretty far from his feet (you'll hear it too). What I usually do to prevent his big spell onslaught is just putting him to sleep (so I don't use debuff's like Bio, Poison, and Shock on him before he does this, all which would prevent him from being able to sleep). Sleep II works fine, I'm sure an Elemental Seal > Sleep would work cool too. I'm not too sure how well Silence works on him (as I fight as BLM/THF) so maybe an ElemSeal > Silence would work, but I wouldn't know.

One last note... if you are on Midgardsormr server, and you see a Tarutaru named Waluigi sitting around the area... please don't camp Zo'Khu, because I was so kind to tell everybody everything I know about this guy... and I need that shield... Thanks! ^.~*

[Update: I killed him a total of 17 times, and I finally got the Faerie Shield. I started keeping track of weather, and he spawned regardless of the weather (rain, clear, lightning). I was pt'ed with a 60DRG/30SAM (where I was 57BLM/20THF) and the 3rd Zo'Khu we fought together dropped the shield. I don't know if our teamwork had anything to do with it, but it was cool nonetheless. Happy hunting!]

That is because part way through fighting him, he will use Manafont.

Why would we want to silence ourselves? Surely a better course of action would be to silence the monster :P

Has anyone fought this mob? At what level and how many in party. What do you think minimum level to fight solo is as Black Mage?
RE: Questions
# Jan 25 2004 at 5:24 PM Rating: Decent
I would assume, since its a level 36-38 Mob, you can solo it SAFELY as a BLM around level 52-55 ish. I havent tried it, but usually thats the case.

Hope that helps.
