Minotaur Picture

Special attack: ???. This attack is a 10 second Doom. There is some chance that holy water can prevent death. But this is a very slim chance. You can avoid this attack by turning around.

A deadly attack, to be sure, but there's a foolproof stratgy that any mage-heavy party can employ. This isn't a meathod that any melee DDs should use, but all mages sould take Blind Potions and keep up Blind, giving them full immunity to all vision-based attacks. Hope this helps ^^

I tried this method as solo bst with IT oil spill it does not work. When i got doomed i looked up to make sure blind didnt wear and it did not. So dont rely on this method.Only reason I tried this is because he doomed me after draw in on first attempt(and 2nd attempt. If your in a party just turn around. (Used 6 holy waters and still died)

Minos was an ancient king in the old Minoan (Crete) Greece.

Minotaur means the "bull of Minos", and apparently was some form of giant/cyclops/bull/mutant nasty ****. If you read up on the epic poems and stories about it - there was a great labyrinth (maze) and the Minotaur guarded it... I believe Hercules had to go in to kill him?

Either way, the things that SE called Taurus really don't look like what most people would think when they see the word is quite clearly derived from the Greek word for cow... they should have just called them Snaggletooths and had something that actually looked like a mad cow being called Taurus.

Mindwalker the story you are refering to is the Store of Icarus. And Hercules had nothing to do with it, other then the fact that he Built a tomb for the boy. It was Theseus who killed the Minotour. Minos, angry that Theseus was able to escape, imprisoned Daedalus and his son Icarus in a tall tower. They were able to escape by building wings for themselves with the feathers of birds that flew by, but Icarus died during the escape as he flew too high and the wax that held the feathers in the wing melted in the heat of the Sun

My BST static partner and I just duoed Minotaur. We charmed IT Makara just outside of his pop area, and used Familiar. Be sure not to get into Minotaur's line of sight at all until you're ready to fight, because he aggros from insanely far away.

The basic strategy involves letting your pets do all the work. Just stand back out of AoE range, facing away from him, and have your finger over your Heel macro. As soon as you see Mortal Ray, use Heel. It could have just been the adrenaline, but it seemed to both of us that his Mortal Ray has a shorter casting time than that of the 'normal' Taurus-type mobs.

One more note: If you do get drawn in during the fight, be sure to use Heel as soon as you see the emote. Near the end of the fight, my pet got doomed because Minotaur used Mortal Ray while I was being pulled in, and I couldn't get my macro off in time.

All in all, it was a very exciting fight. It took under three minutes, but it was the most fun three minutes I've had in this game in awhile.

Happy hunting!

I think the horns do give a minotaur-ish type look, doesn't look much like a minotaur though

Minotaur are acient greek mythology charictors, a Human body with a Bulls head.
Locked in a Giant Laberynth, where its pery/food were thrown, and left to die at the hands of the mighty beast.

I really hope there isn't a maze in game, lol

Only BST can reportedly solo it. This area is capped at 40, so it doesn't matter if you are a 66 RDM here.

Clarmed a Oil Spill, 2 houred, Ran to kill the forom BRD, got my sub, got bored and Warp stick was down, Needed to blood port, and I said, What the heck? Why not.
I got drawn in, I sent it oil spill after it, Spill was hitting from 50-70~ and mino was hitting it for 10-20. Used reward on it.

Note: Mordal Ray gets to be a pain in the butt, Just heel when the message box pops up.

Actually was easy although, I had aready killed it before in a PT.
Funfunfun
Oh and about getting home, I just walked back afew steps and killed myself off a pugy!

I just did this with a small alliance (12 people) and we only lost four in the battle. We found it and got drawn in. When it draws you in, it does two things: there is a line of text in the /emote color that says "The minotaur sees you and bears its blood-soaked fangs" and it automatically uses its AoE damage/poison move, even if it doesnt have TP. Since it moves around during the battle, it has the potential to draw you in more than once; this can lead to a spamming of the move mentioned above.

Unlike other mobs who use Draw In, the Minotaur can do so even if you aren't in his Line of Sight. Draw In is activated just by *targeting* the Minotaur, even if you're standing around the corner. Do not be tempted to target him at all because as soon as your cursor lands on him he'll draw everyone in.

Wrong. I went there tonight to see how much a Ninja's nukes are resisted, and he did not Draw In when I targeted him from around the corner.

Nin elemental nukes are resisted a lot even before he uses Unblest Armor, so if you are going to try this, you should have good equipment and food (and sub BLM for MAB).

Since he is a MNK type mob, solo tanking with Ninja can be difficult. Recommend two blink tanks or a PLD tank.

This, is untrue. It's sight agro from quite a large range. However, the mystery is that it actually agro's and doesn't draw in until a certain range is met.

Or in short, if a SMN manages to target it around the corner, run a lil way, then summon Carbuncle or some other avatar, it will automatically attack the Minoutar, pulling everyone in.

The thing about "turning around" to nullify the doom effect is complete BS. I went in as rng with my group and after every arrow that pulled hate towards me I turned around till hate was back on the nin. Regardless of having my back turned to it I still got doom 3 times in a row. Your only saving grace is holy water, and even that almost never works.
RE: Mortal Ray
# Jun 26 2005 at 6:56 AM Rating: Excellent
In the fight, hate bounces around, and he moves. If you're not exactly 180 degrees turned around, you'll get the effect. I managed to dodge it several times, but sometimes, w/ lag and delat, i wasn't completely turned around, or he moved a bit, and I got it. On;y died once, damn /item macro >.<

i think u got mixed up.... kirin is supposed to be a lion-like creature in both japanese and chinese myth.
the rich and superstitious asian will have a pair of stone kirin outside the house to ward of evil and go to any sushi place and order a bottle of kirin beer and u can see how japanese potrayl kirin.

Erm... actually, he's right. The kirin is considered a "unicorn," at least in chinese mythology. If you look at a bottle of kirin beer, take away the mane and you have a mixture of a unicorn and a dragon (there is a single horn in the mane).

Those lions outside houses and what not are different animals. They are much more broad than most statues of kirin (as kirin is horse like body-wise).
RE: unicorn ...XD
# Jul 18 2005 at 5:03 AM Rating: Decent
In Japanese mythology Kirin is also a horse-like lion thing with a unicorn horn and golden scales. And the "lions" outside of houses aren't lions really they're a sort of mixture of a lion and a dog, they're called fu dogs and are originally from China.

Holy Water and Cursna have a chance of removing the Doom Effect...anyone getting the duty of tanking this beast better make a Holy Water macro...I was primary tank for this battle and avoided every Mortal Ray the minotaur used (~5 times)

This fight is alliance attackable, just as all of the monsters are in this zone...think of the Minotaur as a NM that appears in several locations.

It will also "Draw In" the entire alliance as soon as anyone comes near it...I was quite a ways back when our thf caught a glimpse of it...very disorienting.

When fighting another of the Taurus family, a Stegosaurus I believe, I was Doomed...spamming about 4 holys seemed to do the trick. ^^

Mortal Ray has about a 3-5 second warm-up, but tanking them in anything except an "unlocked" mode is asking for punishment.

I do not believe erase will work, however it is a life-saver against the drownga effect the Fomors have...

The Doom attack is called Mortal Ray. It has a chance to be removed by Holy Water and Cursna. Best way for the tank to tank the minotaur is to turn away from the mob the entire battle.

The model for the Minotaur is the same as the model used for the Taurus (another dinosaur mob found in this zone). Robert and I (two players from Gilgamesh Server who just fought him) have sent a couple of screenshots to Pikko, so expect a clear screenshot whenever Pikko gets around to uploading it.

This mob doesnt drop anything to my knowlege. It is one of the boss monsters of a CoP mission in Chapter 2. When it used its Doom attack during our fight with it, the spell was called "Call Beanman". No idea what thats supposed to mean, or how it relates to a Doom spell, but funny none the less.

The word Minotaur come from a monster that is half bull and half human that inhabits the maze in Crete. Its said that wife of Minos king of Crete wed a bull that gave birth the minotaur. I wonder the monster look like the one in Greek Myths. Please post a picture of it.

sorry to beat the dead horse *gets out her horse-a-whacker*.

The minotaur was born of the wife of Minos and a grand white bull because her husband refused to sacrafice the bull to the god of the sea Poseidin. In his rage,Poseidin made the queen fall in love with the bull and one night she stole into the bull's pen. You can guess what happened in there. Anyways, when the minotaur was born, the king was disgusted and demanded that the great inventor/architect Daedelus build him the labyrinth. However, after the labyrith was built, he imprisoned Daedalus and Icarus, daedalus' son, in a tower so that no one could ever know how to get out of the great maze. This is where the myth of icarus and daedalus stems from, and we all know what happened to icarus after flying too high to the sun. His wax wings on whih he was to escape melted, and he plummeted to his doom. Anyways, The minotaur now trapped in his prison was sent 7 maidens and 7 young men from Athens every 9 years to aplease Minos, who had prayed for the aid of Zues fr revenge for the death of a beloved one. Eventually, the king,Aegeus, got upset and then Theseus, his son from a drunken rape on the princess Aethra, appeared, weilding his sword and sandles. Theseus, being the ever so ...um... heroric guy he was, offered to be one of the 7 young men. the king/his father told him to place a white sail if he was sucessful, and a black one if Theseus had died. Using the string as a homepoint trick, Theseus managed to kill the Minotaur and escape the laybrinth, but forgot his father's request. In the agony of 'losing his son', Aegeus threw himself into the sea and died, becoming one of the 3 judges who judged the souls and sent them to the fields to live for eternity in peace and happiness, to be reborn after drinking from the river lethe, or to pay for their sins for a certain amount of time (or forever) until they were forgiven/reborn. Of course, this is after they paid to get across the river of death and passed Cerberus, that ever so cute three headed doggie *sarcasm*...

I highly doubt it, like Kirin, they're going to use one of their existing monsters as the model and just give it a name change, along with new abilities.

Seriously, Kirin is a Chinese Unicorn-Dragon and in FFXI they just took the Manticore monster for it.
