Vrtra's Spawn Location

  • Spawn time is 72-120 hours after last ToD, or 36-72 hours after a server maintenance when the servers are offline. Thirty minute intervals between each window.

  • Immune to Sleep, susceptible to Stun. Highly resistant to all enfeebles.

  • Has a potent auto-regen effect that cannot be dispelled.

  • Has a draw-in effect.

  • Periodically summons undead to assist him in battle. These undead are roughly the same strength as the undead mobs in the room and will share hate with Vrtra. Vrtra will spawn any two of these at a time.

    • Pey: A skeleton Warrior

  • Grants title: Vrtra Vanquisher

Vrtra in Riverne - Site #B01

  • Vrtra possesses the same abilities as his full strength counterpart in King Ranperre's Tomb, though has a decidedly lower amount of HP.

Historical Information

In Hindu mythology, Vrtra (Vritra, "The Devourer") was an Asura and was described as being a gigantic serpent or dragon with three heads. Initially said to hold all the world's rivers captive until its death at the hands of the god Indra, later tellings of Vrtra suggested that he was created by the heavenly builder Tvashtri to slay Indra, who had earlier slew Tvashtri's son.

After engaging in a battle in which Vrtra claimed victory (he had swallowed Indra, only to be forced by the other Devas to regurgitate him), the two struck a truce that Indra would not attack Vrtra with anything made of wood, stone, or metal, dry or wet, or during the day or night. Indra instead used foam from ocean waves (neither dry nor wet, and not made of wood, stone, or metal) and killed Vrtra at twilight (neither night nor day).

So there i was, lvling my RDM, when our party disbanded and i decided to go explore King Ranperre's Tomb as it was my first time in the lower section. I eventually came to a large gold door, which i dropped invis to open and enter. I went through the door and recast sneak/invis. I saw Vrtra, and thought "oh, cool, that'd be a good pic". So i walked right up to him and then i noticed he started casting Dispelga...then he took away ALL my buffs at once. I used Chainspell but before i could cast Warp he hit me twice and i was OWNED. DMG: 636 and 768. Done. (like Nextel)

# Dec 06 2004 at 12:22 PM Rating: Decent

Vrtra has True Sight, meaning he sees through Sneak and Invisible.

While fighting him, he periodically summons three undead named Airi, Iruci, and Pey.

Like most (all?) HNMs, he will draw you in if you try to run away.

Vtra has a very high auto-Regen, as well as Dispelga.

Other drops:

Cashmere Wool
Cashmere Thread
Reviler's Helm (lv71 BST/DRK/DRG/PLD/RDM/RNG/SAM/WAR, Def: 21, Enchantment: Provoke, Max Charges: 30 / Equip Delay: 30s / Reuse Timer: 10m)

-----------------------------------

Edit: Other semi-related info..

Lightning Crystal + 2 Cashmere Wool = 1 Cashmere Thread

Earth Crystal + 3 Cashmere Threads = 1 Cashmere Cloth

Earth Crystal + Cashmere Cloth + Gold Sheet + Ruby + Sapphire + 2 Gold Thread + 2 Velvet Cloth = Sha'ir Manteel (lv72 BRD, MP+14, CHR+7, Haste+2%, Song Spellcasting Time -12%)

Vrtra death.
# Dec 05 2004 at 3:34 PM Rating: Decent
This thing has been slaint by quite a few people now on Fenrir. Seen a bunch of people from random LS' with title "Vrtra Vanquisher."

I think there was just something they had to figure out the hard way before they could take it down, but now it looks like alot of people have killed it.
details?

I have to go back while on the comp to get better shots, but my friend and I went down to see the mighty Vrtra.

We used only 1 Silent Oil each to get there from the ??? and just walked past everything we saw. When we got to the room we were both so psyched, that we ran in and straight for the Big Dragon himself. I ran up to him, got some shots, took 648 damage as my 30WAR, and gave my friend the opprotunity to cast Stone II for 4 damage as 29 BLM. He then got wasted with a 660 strike.

Damn that was fun, quick, and inexpensive. Pics will be up soon somewhere.

First off moving it wont help. think of it as the most bad assed monster in the game/Spawn point all in one. id say, 2 alliances for the dragon, and 2-3 alliances for the undead. think im over doing it? heh you havent tryed have you?

I'm not high enough level to have had to fight him. But I've heard of many great attempts at this guy, and I think that this guy is currently unbeatable. I mean, maybe there's a new quest or mission or something that you have to complete to truly injure this guy, or maybe you have to use an item on him or something to give him a weakened state. It wouldn't be the first time in an FF where you had to use some special item or special attack to weaken a godly boss.

So maybe everyone should just hold off until the update to even bother attempting to kill him.

Wow.... Thats weird..... Did the move the level cap from 75 up?? o.o
Tough
# Nov 30 2004 at 10:04 PM Rating: Decent
Just thought I'd mention i heard some ls did about 20,000 dmg on him i know its not a lot for most HNMs but it didn't even move his hp at all they said so i'd have to figure this guy has around 2mil+ hp
RE: Tough
# Dec 02 2004 at 7:47 AM Rating: Default
AS for HNM 20.000 dmg is pretty much nothing many ls beat ROC that has over 35.000hp but he aint that tough.
Judgment Day

Yeh i want to see vrta go not against Kirin but against Dynamis Shadow Lord. Altho he isnt that hard if there was no arman DRG around. But still his aoe wiped 3 alliances of 73+ . so yeh i bet it would be nice battle between these to, hopefully SE will make some sample movie about it ><; /wonder

I was running around blood porting i see this room, there he is, he aggrod me i had sneak invis on ^^ got a screen shot, but the screen shot does not match up to the current one. he must aggro by everything or scent...
odd,,,
# Nov 28 2004 at 6:37 PM Rating: Decent
If nobody has ever beaten him, he would always be in his room, correct? Well, My friends and o go grab SSs of extrememly high level mobs and don't care about death by them. Well...we are on the Bismarck server, and we went to his spawn point...he wasn't there. This was about a week ago, and I think some HNM ls (due to lack of bragging on this site, probably Japanese) beat this guy. I don't know if its true but I assure you, the room is his spawn point, but he wasn't there.

same thing happened to me on Gilgamesh today, all I saw were undead guess i'll try again tommorow.
Watch Out...
# Nov 28 2004 at 2:28 AM Rating: Decent
I followed a 75 alliance there with my RDM once... They were killed by the monsters with in the room. Lucky, a WHM hadn't made it there yet and Raised III the other WHM and got everyone up. After what seemed to be forever, they started the fight. They split the group up to have one on the Skells and the other on Big V himself. The plan failed... The mobs alone are badass, the dragon didn't even have a sliver of health gone. If you want to see him... You better watch out.
