General Information

Tiamat's Spawn Location
Tiamat's Spawn Location

    • Respawn time is approximately 72-120 hours after the last Time of Death, or 36-72 hours after a server maintenance when the servers are offline.

      • Thirty minute intervals between each window.

  • Susceptible to Sleep, Stun, Slow, and Elegy. Immune to Lullaby. Resistant to Silence and Paralyze.

  • Every two minutes, Tiamat will fly into the air, where she'll stay for two minutes before coming to the ground again. During this time, melee attacks will have no effect on her (magic and ranged attacks can still affect her though). While she's in the air, her normal attacks are magical, fire based attacks that cannot be absorbed by shadows, but can be reduced by damage reduction, magic defense, magic reduction, and fire resist effects (through gear, spells, job abilities, etc). While she is in the air, she cannot be slept (Sleep will land on her, but it will wear off immediately)

  • At approximately 25% hp, Tiamat receives a large attack boost that cannot be dispelled. This effect will remain until Tiamat is killed (it won't wear off even if Tiamat's hp regenerates higher than 25%). Denoted by Tiamat holding her wings upright.

  • Has a draw-in effect

  • Has an auto-regen effect that cannot be dispelled.

  • Grants title: Tiamat Trouncer

Tiamat's Special Abilities

  • Firaga III: AoE Fire based magic spell (Circle of effect originates from spell target).

  • Blaze Spikes: Inflicts Fire based magical damage against all that melee Tiamat. Effect can be dispelled.

  • Horrid Roar: Single target full Dispel and Enmity reset effects.

  • Absolute Terror: Single target Terror effect. Target is unable to perform any action until effect wears off.

  • Tebbad Wing: AoE magical damage with an additional Plague effect.

  • Fiery Breath: Frontal cone AoE Fire based magic damage. Damage is the strongest on anyone directly in front of Tiamat. Recommended for all tanks to stand on Tiamat's front legs to reduce damage taken.

    • Tiamat will only perform Fiery Breath while on the ground.

  • Touchdown: AoE damage. Wipes shadows. Tp move is performed when Tiamat lands on the ground after being in the air.

  • Inferno Blast: Strong AoE Fire based magic damage.

    • Tiamat will only perform Inferno Blast while in the air.

  • Spike Flail: Massive AoE physical damage. Absorbed by three shadows. Will only occur when a character has drawn hate from behind it.

    • Tiamat cannot perform Spike Flail while in flight.

  • Mighty Strikes: All melee physical attacks performed by Tiamat will now be critical hits. At approximately 85% hp, Tiamat will begin to use this ability, and will often use it once after each time in the air. Denoted by the characteristic mob two-hour animation.

    • Tiamat will not perform Mighty Strikes while in flight.

Note: All AoE moves will hit anyone within range, regardless if they or their alliance has hate on Tiamat or not.

Tiamat in Riverne - Site #B01

  • Tiamat possesses the same abilities as her full strength counterpart in Attohwa Chasm, though has a decidedly lower amount of HP.

Historical Background

In Mesopotamian mythology, Tiamat (Tamtu in Sumerian) is a giant female dragon which was the primordial creatrix of all existence said to have created the world and the gods, though this world had no land and was a vast water-world, filled with the waters of chaos. Tiamat personified the saltwater (ocean) while her consort Apsu (Abzu in Sumerian) personified the 'sweetwater' (freshwater).

It was the amalgamation and intermingling of these waters that created the gods. In the Enuma Elish (Mesopotamian creation epic), the gods were a persistent annoyance to Tiamat & Apsu, so the two decide to kill all their children. The god Ea discovers their plan and pre-emptively slew Apsu or, in some myths, casts a spell that puts him in a death-like sleep (since the waters of Apsu still exist even after his 'death'). Seeking vengeance for Apsu's death, Tiamat bore an army of monsters and assigned her consort, Kingu, to be their general.

Tiamat was slain by Marduk (see Marduk's Armor), who held her in place using a net of pure wind before releasing a flurry of arrows down her throat and then cleaving her body in two. The upper half created the heavens and the lower half created the Earth.

I never fought this thing, but I remember fighting Hakutaku and it had tons of HP. I'd say Hakutaku had around 100k HP. I would think this NM would have atleast 500k HP. I wouldn't be suprised if Vrtra, the undead dragon king, had around 1 million HP!!

Just a side note...

I think "H"nm just means "huge" honestly lol.

HNM are generally oversized versions of their normal counterparts, i.e. Bloodtear - Battering Ram, Serket - girtab, etc.. even King Artho is a little bit bigger and got a weird look to him relative to a normal crab.. with teh big size comes some heightened abilities and increased HP.

Tiamat is indeed HUGE, but there aren't many dragons to compare him to... size wise he's same dimensions as jormy and V but red. but seein how a taru is about the size of his foot, i think he deserves the "H"NM classification :D

Heh, i love these dragons ><

Everything originated with water. From the mixture of sweet water, Apsu, with salt water, Tiamat, the gods arose. Apsu and Tiamat gave birth to Mummu, the tumult of the waves, and to Lakhmu and Lakhamu, a pair of gigantic serpents. In turn these serpents produced Anshar, the heavens, and Kishar, the earthly world. And from these two came the great gods, Anu, Enlil, and Ea, as well as the other gods of the sky, earth, and the underworld.

Many of these new gods were noisy, which upset Apsu and Tiamat, since they could not rest. These primordial goddesses then discussed whether they should annihilate their progeny.

When Ea, the all-knowing, learned of Apsu's plan to destroy the gods he used his magic to capture her and Mummu. Tiamat was furious and created a monstrous army of gods and freak creatures to punish Ea and his cohorts.

Ea went to his father Anshar, and Anshar advised him to send Anu to fight Tiamat. But both Anu and Ea were afraid of the goddess and her army. Then Ea called Marduk forth. Marduk promised to conquer Tiamat if he were given supreme authority over the gods. The gods agreed that he was to have lordship and feasted in his honor. Marduk was invested with the scepter, the throne, and an invincible weapon.

Armed with bow and arrows, lightning, the winds, a hurricane, and a special net, Marduk rode forth to meet Tiamat in his chariot, which was a tempest, drawn by four fearsome steeds. They clashed and Marduk caught Tiamat in his net. When she opened her mouth to swallow him, Marduk let loose the hurricane, which filled her jaws and belly, thereby stunning her. Then Marduk shot an arrow into her belly and killed her. Tiamat's army fled in confusion at her downfall, but Marduk caught them in his net, chained them, and cast them into the underworld.

As he was cutting up Tiamat's body, Marduk conceived a plan. From one half of her body he made the dome of the heavens, and with the other half he made the earth. He established the dwelling of the gods, fixed the positions of the stars, ordered the movements of the heavenly bodies, and set the length of the year. Then to gladden the hearts of the gods Marduk created men from the blood of Kingu, the general of Tiamat's army. Finally, he made rivers, vegetation, and animals, which completed the creation. In recognition of his triumphs the gods bestowed all of their titles and powers on Marduk, making him the God of Gods.

Historically-
Quote:
Tiamat
"The Epic of Creation (Enuma Elish): Tablets I-III"
She is primeval Chaos, bearer of the skies (Anshar) and the earth (Kishar) and the mother of Lahmu, and Lahamu. Traditionally conceived of as a serpent or dragon of some sort, this idea does not have any basis in the Enuma Elish itself. Within that work her physical description includes, a tail, a thigh, "lower parts" (which shake together), a belly, an udder, ribs, a neck, a head, a skull, eyes, nostrils, a mouth, and lips. She has insides, a heart, arteries, and blood. The clamor of the younger gods disturbed her, but she continued to indulge them.

When her mate Apsu and his vizier Mummu suggested that they kill the younger gods, she grew furious, then calmed down and rejected the plan. Her restless subservient gods goaded her into action after Apsu is slain. They prepared to wage war against the other gods. As Mother Hubur, (the underworld river, who fashions all things), she bore giant snakes with venom for blood, and cloaked dragons with a godlike radiance yet with a terrible visage, for the war. She rallied a horned serpent, a mushussu-dragon, a lahmu-hero, a ugallu-demon, a rabid dog, a scorpion-man, umu-demons, a fish-man, a bull-man, and eleven others underneath her champion and new lover, Qingu. She gave Qingu the Tablet of Destinies to facilitate his command and attack.
(Dalley pp. 231-249)

"The Epic of Creation (Enuma Elish): Tablets IV-V"
Marduk came with his host to attack her. Qingu's strategy initially confused him, and Tiamat tried to enspell him, hurling jibes at him. She was rebuffed and incited into single combat with Marduk. She continued to cast her spell and Marduk netted her, and threw a wind at her. She tried to swallow it and was undone - distended, shot, sliced in two and cut in the heart. Her crushed skull heralded her death, and half of her body was used to roof up the sky. Her eyes became the sources of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
(Dalley pp. 249-257)

Here she is depicted as an Assyro-Babylonian Mythic God.
Now if you have ever played AD&D (Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, not attention deficit disorder or whatever else you might think it is), Tiamat is the God, mother, and Creator of all Chaotic (generally evil) dragons, while Bahamut is the God, Father, and Creator of all Metallic Dragons (generally good.) Depending on which realm you follow, there is speculation between Dragonlance fans and Forgotten Realms fans that Bahamut is actually another form of Paladine, since Paladine is responsible for some good Dragons, especially Gold Dragons. But that is speculation and not hard fact.
And actually Tiamat is supposed to have 5 heads: Ice, Fire, Lightning, Poison Gas, and Acid. How cool would that be?

RE: Depends on what you believe
# Mar 09 2005 at 8:57 PM Rating: Decent
nice Quote. And as for the other FFXI got these two from old Stories and tells of Dragons its not just AD&D. If you ever deside to do any resuch on Dragons these two always come ub Bahamut and Tiamat. The two are said to be the over gods of all the Creators of good and evil. And the gods over gods even greater the Zues.but becuase of the power of Tiamat she was locked away by Bahamut and the other gods. And sence for there always has to be a balance of good and Evil Bahamut locked hims self away. witch ended the twos Existance.

Tiamat is a natural Wyrm, Bahamaut is a Kuluu transformed into the Terrestrial Avitar of the Skies. As terrestrial avitar of the skies all wyrms bow before Bahamaut, otherwise, the two are unrelated.

I was doing a quest for the Atthowa Chasm map with my friend and LS mate Aryn when to my awe, I saw this thing being fought off in the distance. It was the EXTREME LS fighting this thing. From what I hear it took them aprox. 5 1/2 hours to defeat. i stayed for about 45min. to and hour and they hadn't even appeared to clear a quarter of its health. It's enourmous and its AoE alone was enough to get me to back off. 587 from one hit to my 50 MNK. It is the most impressive thing I've seen in the game yet though. So many spectators were hanging out there, and others waiting to be pulled in to fight. Party members have to be switched in and out in order to defeat it because one alliance alone is not enough. I was told a fair number of BLM have to repeatedly stun it.
See you on Shiva.

Speaking of old time FF legends what about Omega and Shinryu from FF5 and the WEAPON creatures from later games? It would be cool to have something like that as well.

I'm not positive about Shinryu, but the Weapons are in the game already ^_^)~ Most people have no flippin idea because they dont do CoP. On my server only one NA LS has access to Lumoria. I'm not quite there yet but I'm working on it. There are so many mobs not on here from CoP. Tiamet was simply someone submitting miss-spelled information, its the same mob.

The Wyrmking Bahamaut, or, The Terristrial Avitar of the Sky- Bahamaut is the "leader" of wyrms, they bow before his commands, however he is not naturally and origonally a Wyrm, like many other Terrestrial Avitars he was origonaly a Kuluu.

Also its worthy to note that there are 3 other Wyrms similar to wyrm Tiamat of the Flame...

Vrtra of the Darkness
Jourgumnd of the Frost
and...
Ouryuu of the Earth

Ouryuu is a CoP mission battle for the 4th chapter mission "The Savage" It serves not only to further the story but really to also act as a training course for fighting wyrms. Similar tactics will be effective... but thats as much as I want to say on that.

There are also some more generic black colored Wyrms that are seen, but I have never engaged one in combat.

In Babylonian myths, Tiamat is a huge, bloated female dragon that personifies the saltwater ocean, the water of Chaos. She is also the primordial mother of all that exists, including the gods themselves.

Actually, people don't generally mess with Vrtra because he spawns in a relatively small room with a LOT of high level undead in it, that will all aggro yellow health. It takes two full alliances to take Vrtra on: One for the dragon, and one for all the undead in the room. Vrtra can also summon more undead to his aide...so he's a real pain.

Tiamat isn't quite such a pain.
