Historical Information

In Japanese mythology, the Ubume is the ghost of a pregnant woman that was buried while still alive, only to give birth to a living child while still in the grave. After dead, the spirit of the woman would stand along street corners, trying to offer the ghost of her child to anyone that passes by.

Just finished this part of quest

Just soloed as 75DRG/NIN. Easy solo with no items. I didnt use pots or food and basically wyvern did most of the work she resisted every lullaby. For the first 3/4 hp I basically was awake long enough for maybe one hit casting utsusemi and maybe a jump or spirit link about half way through. Had enough for Penta Thrust to finish it off in the end but all in all just sitting back watching the show XD too weak birdie or impossible to gauge wyvern you pick, I'll take it either way. Had over half my hp at end majority lost to spirit link.

I had not read anything about BLM soloing this. I just did it with a little bit of difficulty on my 75 BLM.

-He can't be slept
-He doesn't resist enfeebles(I used silence, bind, gravity)
-He hits for 120-140 per hit
-Has roughly 5500 HP
-I did not have to rest or 2hr(Taru)

Basically silence, bind him. Run away, get stoneskin up and nuke. Drain kept my HP up.

Is solo-able as THF75/NIN37. Got me down about 1/2 way. Horde Lullaby erases shadows. Only time he got hits in.
Easy for 75

Just soloed it on WHM75/NIN37 (Capped club + 1 merit).

I did it without poison potions. I prepared with the normal spells...stoneskin aquaveil utsusemi haste reraise III. Killed a Goblin Bouncer for 300% TP first, then rested up and casted the spells then popped Ubume.

(I just realized I didn't even have Protect up...wow, that was dumb xD)

At the beginning, the fight wasn't going so well. It got Lullaby off before I could initially silence it, which completely eliminates your shadows of course. So it swings away at me a few times...it only took it 3 hits to break my stoneskin...without protect up (since I was stupid) I was taking about 110-160 dmg a hit...ouch. So it wakes me up and I recast ni, stoneskin, then I pin silence, slow, and paralyze on it. I had no problem getting any enfeebs to stick (skill is 220 for reference purposes). Basically, silence just buys you more time until it recasts Lullaby. It seems to cast it whenever it can, but since it pretty much always hits, it really is best for it to be casting it less often.

After a while, I realized that the only thing Stoneskin was doing was preventing me from waking up faster after Lullaby was cast...so I stopped casting it. Yes, Not only did I not have protect up but I was not using Stoneskin anymore...completely Haste+shadow tanking it. (Suicidal, yaaay!)

The only big thing to worry about on this mob if you try to solo it on whm/nin is when it uses Triple Attack. I took 400+ dmg from this move when I only had 1 shadow left...not pretty.

It has pretty high defense...I ate attack food and still could only manage to do about 25-35 dmg a hit with a Darksteel Maul, with Hexa Strikes for 300-500 dmg. Haste, Silence, Paralyze, and Slow are the most important spells for this fight as whm/nin since you will need to be recasting Utsusemi as fast as possible, and trying to avoid losing your shadows until Lullaby inevitably removes them all. When you get slept, spam your Ni macro to try to get it recast as soon as you wake up from getting hit, then recast Silence immediately. Shadow tank it and poke it down...it has quite a bit of HP when you're doing so little damage so the fight took me about 10 minutes. Having a juice or a Body piece that grants refresh will help...I don't own one unfortunately and I was down to 80 MP at the end of the fight, and I'm a taru...so it's not easy. Good luck to all that attempt to solo it in this manner :)

Edit: I did use Benediction somewhere in the fight....I think it was after I took a Triple Attack for about 300 dmg and was down to red. I wanted to conserve my MP because it was down under 200 at that point. Nothing else important to mention now ^^;

... tried to solo as 70 pld/war and no go. It hit friggin hard (50-90) a hit. highest crit was 174 on me :X. Evil birdy... evil ><, I was able to chunk out about 15% of it's health before death.. Hope this thing isn't based on the lvl of the person popping it
Lack of High level help - doable but difficult

My LS and I were able to do this at a comparatively lower level.

54 sam/war
54 nin/war
54 whm/sum

It took two tries but we would have had it the first time had an elemental not popped up and attacked the whm. Our plan went like this, we used invis to get into the closed off cavern to the left of the hut, cleared out all the gobs, then waited for the first two gobs to spawn again so that they couldn't respawn during the NM fight and aggro. It was a pretty straight forward fight. The Whm, who stayed behind the NM to evade horde lullaby, kept constantly silencing it to reduce the lullabys effect. Sam and Nin heavily relied upon shadows and third eye to escape attacks and whm kept our HP relatively up. Took a while but didn't even need to two hour. Finished it fast enough to give time to buff up before we had to refight the gobs.

Solo'd this as 75rdm/blm. Easy stuff. Keep the debuff's / buff's up and you'll win.

Threw up Refresh, Prot, Haste, SS, Phalanx, popped NM and casted Dia II, Slow, Paralyze, Silence, and Blind. Didn't use any food.

- Joyeuse, OHat, Scorp Harness + Acc gear

Tried to Silence as much as possible. Sometimes it was faster than me and I slept for a bit, but nothing to worry much about.

At 30% Bird health left, I got tired of fighting it, 2 hour'd Thunder III, Blizzard III, Fire III and that was that.
hmm.

this stupid NM has a lot of defence/HP that as a nin i could solo him except he spams horde and i didnt have poison potions on me

poison potions od make a difference. its likely to go the whole fight without getting hit.

i just solo'd this as 75SAM... solo light sc did over 75% of its HP...
useful things to know about this NM
* it uses triple attack
* it hits pretty lightweight, 220 defense and 71 vitality and it hit for 100 average, hit 3 times total...
* it has about 5000 - 6000 HP, seems to have defense similar to exp mobs... normal hits were doing 80-120, opposed to 200+ on the surrounding goblins
*its easy to silence but it didnt seem to stick very long...

keep your back line jobs in the back alley to the left of the hut, and fight it right in front. that way the whm/blm/rdm/whatever wont get slept, and can curaga just incase... very easy mob to shadow tank, its accuracy was crap with my evasion skill @ 253.
hmmmm

Just did this fight a few mins ago unsuccessfully, we got our asses handed to us, me and a 75 sam/nin..... a real big fan of horde lullaby, so friend called in another Sam and a rdm.....killed it in under a min. Defintaely something to silence the *******, and just be careful of elementals roaming around if you have magic users.
Not so easy

I did this fight tonight as a 56SAM with my friend a 75WHM/37NIN. This ******* bird was tough. He spams horde lullaby all the time. There was a 70SMN near who came and joined to help since my friend was getting slept every 20seconds. Got it done tho^^ now off to the dunes...

Lol, I saw someone drag this guy to zone, and I figured what the hell, I'll try it. Only after claim did I look up what it's was. (and the guy who pop'd it didn't come back). I solo'd to 3/4 hp and decided to zone and move on. I could have easily solo'd it as 75Brd/37Whm (woulda just taken a while).
Solo-able for 68SMN

Did this part last night for a friend.

60 PLD
74 RNG
61 THF
5x SAM (i can't remember Tsudao, I'm sorry ; ;)

Cleared the gobs, popped it, the fight was over shortly after. It wasn't hitting me hard at all, I don't remember Triple Attack doing a spectacular amount of damage. Just used regular fighting tactics, tho I remember the THF doing a Hide SATA somewhere near the beginning. I don't think you'd need alot of people for it, we would have been okay without the RNG and just having a healer.
No Problem
# Feb 07 2005 at 10:58 PM Rating: Decent
This guy was easy. the only thing that got me scared was his Triple Attack WS. Even then it only did 333 so no worries.
He can be silenced so you don't have to worry about any songs like lullaby.
My Party was: 62 DRK/PLD (i tanked like a pro)
65 BRD
66 DRK
52 SAM
52 BST

U don't need massive amounts of ppl for this fight, just a tank who can take some hits and a few friends to hurt it. Having said that, the higher lvls of the few I brought did help.

pt setup:
61 pld (me, my sam is 52, but its easier to find help if you have a tank)
61 rdm
61 blm
53 drk

He hit me for about 50-70, so nothing unusually hard. A disortion SC by the drk and i (both at 300 tp), followed by a burst from the blm took away 1/3 - 1/2 its life, just simple fighting tactics after that.

It should be noted that you will have to clear the area before the fight, in our case 4 goblins and an elemental.

Good luck!
Thats me!

I thought this NM was going to be a pain in the ***, but I was wrong, maybe beacuse I got a lot of help. Party setup:
rng 70
drk 61
rdm 56
rdm 65
blm 70**
whm 52
whm **
pld 61
pld 52
sam 50 (me)
sam 52

Well I can't remember exactly but it was something like that, the fight didn't last more than 1 minute. So if you can get a pt setup like this don't worry.

Btw i forgot to take a pic >.< and thanks to all who helped ^^

**I don't remember the exact lvls of them
