NIN=no.

Considering the damage he does, you'd think NIN would be a good tanking option.

LOL NO.

With the Slow, Dispel, and Gravity (-ga, so there go your shadows.) he casts, it's 32 Flavors of Impossible for a NIN to tank. PLD is indispensible for this fight, for quick hate regain after Wheeling Kick, and because their only line of defense isn't gone in .000005 seconds.
/wave Kam'lanuat my RDM bro!

Just one thing, poor Shin, A NIN is not the right tank for this fight. 75 NIN is basically 1-hit in this fight with Light Blade, as Shin was ; ; NIN makes a fine back-up, and with Great Wheel, a back-up voker is a real good idea, you you really need a PLD to tank and a PLD is adamant is really preferred. Ive actually done this fight 3 times now, and that pic is from the only one where anyone died...

umm you are wrong, Nin's the best tank for this,. if he kept the shadow up, the light Blade only took out 1-2 shadows..
Manage hate and the fight is easy..

I did this yesterday with the following group, first attempt for all of us except the BLM..

68 PLD/WAR (Elvaan)
71 WAR/NIN (Hume)
70 RDM/BLM (Hume)
68 RDM/WHM (Tarutaru)
68 BLM/SMN (Tarutaru)
63 WHM/BLM (Hume)

Basically, we just had the PLD and WAR go in and do their melee thing. Myself, the other RDM and the WHM stayed on the stairs near the door and cast spells from there. Our BLM not only had a Pluto's Staff, but a Black Cloak, so he kept Fenrir out almost constantly (no perpetuation cost with that combo of gear), and stayed down in the arena to the sides. This kept the hate off him, since the puppy was attacking the Archduke for moderate, but accurate damage (he used Lunar Cry or whatever that move is.. I'm not a SMN, so I'm unsure what it's called exactly).

Kam'lanaut casts Dispelga, Slowga, Silencega, Graviga and Paralyzga. I never saw him cast Sleepga, and he seemed to favor the first 3 spells the most. Every once in a while he activates a TP move which gives him the ability to be healed by an element, and also gives him a powerful Enspell effect. For instance, if he enchants himself with Fire, he'd get an Enfire +60 effect and the ability to be healed by Fire spells. If you have a RDM or BRD in your party this should be a non-issue, just dispel it.

I had no problems debuffing the Zilart prince, except for Silence which, of course, just plain doesn't work. Since he has the ability to reset hate, it's a good idea to keep Gravity on him constantly, so that he's easy to run away from (and for melee to be able to hit him when he does move). Also, RDMs should try and stick to enhancing and enfeebling as much as possible, since, due to the lack of Enmity on our AF, will seriously put a damper on your survivability if he comes after you after reseting hate.

The main threat, I think, comes from his Light Blade TP move, which did a few thousand damage to our WAR and killed him instantly (but it was sadly, the only 2 seconds he ever took hate from the PLD, who would take 500 damage from the same move). And this happened at the end of the fight, so we all consider it a fluke death. Also, you can Stun him with a good deal of success in the middle of any of his moves or spells, so it's a very good idea to bring along a BLM, DRK or a RDM/DRK who has that spell. This too, was probably a factor in why I thought this battle was easy.

The interesting thing was.. except for the BLM, mages never took hate, and Fenrir kept his little Taru self alive by distracting the Archduke. Kam'lanaut doesn't have that much HP, it's just the fact he's very versatile and dangerous which makes him a threat. All in all, our party that supposedly should not have been able to defeat him, did so in about 9 minutes.
Fun, but...

Yeah this is a fun fight, and a fun day getting Rikku sky...

lol we still won.

Imo this guy is as hard as, or harder than any M9-2 BC fight.

The WHM dies easily cuz of the AOE attack that does big damage AND resets hate. If WHM cast curaga2 to save everyone's life, then whm is sure dead. If don't cast, then the PT maybe a bit screwed.

I fought this battle 4 times (won 3, lost 1). the PT was about lvl 70 average. Altogether I died about 10 times, lost 8000+ exp since there were no other WHMs to R2/3 me. Each battle die at least twice. The dispel-ga attack often removes my Reraise2, so I have to take R1 from the RDM or BRD. After getting my ZM8 done, I won't be fighting that BC again unless there's another 70+ whm coming to R3.

ehm..well..havent done rank10 yet..but i have sky and well...the archduke is very very easy. fir time i killed him on lvl 66 with 2 73 DD as far as i remember. then i did it again with a PT 74-75 and we almost got a new record ( just 20 seconds slower than Odin Record ) noone died..noone was even close to die. only bad thing is his WS..but lol...he missed me once on 66..and missed me again on 75..so its noit pretty accurate.

you CAN win with a party lower than 70. we did it with a party all around 65, including a 62 drg.

he resets hate periodically and comes straight at the mages. he's pretty tough to pull off of them and in our fight, me (blm) and the whm went down first. then the pld died, and our ranger barraged, slug shot, barrage, ees and took like 1/3 of its hp down and our drk killed it. he's pretty tough though, definitely one of the toughest fights i've done yet and way tougher than any of the bc fights for your nation.

really fun though.

They shouldn't spoil things like that! What about all the Rank 4s that are on Magicite?

Bleh, I already knew Kam'lanaut was a fightable mob in a ZM mission (ls member ruined it for me, lol) but GAH!

Oh well. Cool pic.

By the way, if you have a SMN with you, have 'em have Garuda or another avatar float around and launch off Predator Claws or another high-powered Blood Pact every time Kam'lanaut uses Great Wheel. When I fought him, Garuda ate like half the Light Blades cuz she got hate like that. Saved the PLD a lot of damage. <3 75 taru SMNs...

A few things to note about this guy.

He shifts his "aura" if you will, fairly frequently. For instance, he will buff himself with a dark blue aura, which means that he not only has the effect of Enwater, but also that Water-based attacks will heal him. By contrast he would be weak to the opposing element, Thunder. This effect can be dispelled.

He casts a few broken white magic spells, of which I've seen Slowga and Dispelga. These, of course, erase Blink and override Haste. From what I've seen he almost always begins the fight with Slowga.

He has two other TP attacks that I know of. One is Light Blade, which basically hits a single target for massive damage. I believe blink and utsusemi absorb it. I've seen it do over 1000 damage to a level 75 Warrior. His second attack is Great Wheel. This is a short-range aoe attack that deals moderate damage, stuns, knockbacks, gravities, and erases emntiy on anyone it hits. So typically after using this move it moves right for the back ranks of mages whose hate he has not erased. So caution must be taken during this fight if the mage ranks are to survive, as they cannot take the aoe of Kam'lanaut head-on (the damage would hurt them severely), and yet they must not hold his hate for more than a few seconds after the move.
really?

Is it really Ifrit? There's a 73NIN on Alexander named Shinbei too. Which appears to be the Shinbei in that image.

This guy is a ***** if you try this at a lower lvl meaning 65-70.

If you do this with a pt that is 70+, he gets much easier. I gave up after my 6th failed attempt at beating him. (yea, I know)

So you either need really good players with great Equip or at least be 70+ to have a chance.
omg!
