A shield makes all the difference.

ZM8 cleared with 75 RDM/NIN, 75 RDM/NIN, 75 WHM/SCH. I had hate most of the fight because, well, my gear and combat skills were a lot better than the other RDM's.

The first time I was dual wielding. We got him down to 40% or so with no problems before a Light Blade slipped through shadows and one-shotted me. The other RDM tried to tank, but Kam'lanaut used the hate reset move and he couldn't get hate off the WHM. The WHM died and the RDM didn't last much longer.

The second time I equipped a shield. I got hit with several Light Blades and survived them all easily (from a high of ~500 damage to one that didn't break Stoneskin). The WHM's MP also held up a bit better overall, but that was also because she used Sublimation the first time, whereas the second time she requested the RDM Refresh her.

Bottom line: Consider a shield in this fight. No matter how good a blink tank you are, he frequently uses moves that strip shadows, and it only takes one unlucky Light Blade to kill you.

Set the record in asura on him ^_^. 3x hundred fists brought him down before he got a chance to do light blade :O

Just did this and I had to come post. ^^ Our setup was:

75 NIN/WAR
75 NIN/WAR
75 BRD/WHM (me)

We wiped 3 times before we got everything right. I definatly wouldn't recommend trying this setup unless everyone knows exactly what they are doing. Well and is willing to die a bit. It was fun none the less. We already did ZM 6 with this same setup, time to go try ZM 12. Goodluck everyone! ^^
RDM/BLU > PLD's & NIN's in ZM8

My LS was doing a sky run recently, a number of the people were somewhat low though for this fight but rather than wait till they're higher level and have to do it again we just attempted a go at it. The setup was..

73 RDM/BLU, me
75 BLM
70 DRK/THF
65 PLD
68 SMN
57 WHM

Our first attempt the Paladin of course got owned by Light Blade, before there were more deaths we just exited and began again. For whatever reason I volunteered as a little Taru to tank. The fight began with PLD voking, then DRK SATA onto me. I tanked with my Earth Staff and he hit for 0-15ish with a Tav Taco as well. His enspells would hit 50ish no matter what but you can just simply dispel those. I never got hit with a Light Blade without Stoneskin up, but when I did it would do about 150 damage, so with Stoneskin I was guessing that it was doing 400-500.

At one point in the fight I was getting low on MP while tanking, I waited for him to Light Blade me, put up Stoneskin and converted, my LS thought I either had balls or was crazy lol, but it gave me more hate. The Paladin saved his voke for AoE grav or whenever hate was reset, then we would SATA onto me again. I considered tanking with a Dark Staff for the Light resist since his physical attacks weren't hitting hard, but the fight was already going smooth so I didn't want to mess it up by testing it out.

RDM/BLU are extremely tolerable at taking damage, when tanking like this MP doesn't matter *too* much, as a Taru, RDM/BLU is already insanely powerful, Elvaan and Galka RDM/BLUs I can only imagine. I was helping some people get staging point in the Reef, which is fairly dangerous area. And we aggroed an Imp which to me at 73 is still a VT/IT XP mob. We only had a Paladin, SAM/THF and me there. The Paladin was getting hit too hard and I already getting hate from spaming Cures on him, I had the SAM SATA more hate onto me and tanked it the rest of the way.

Did this today with the following setup : 69SMN (me), 72 SMN (Medalink), 72NIN(Kishr) and 75 MNK (Goldmember).

Very easy fight, no deaths (except when we went after pallas beforehand..) I used Garuda for Hastega and Medalink used Ecliptic Howl, then release and send our carby's. Golden member blink tanked as well with /NIN. So while they pounded on Kam we just Used HR-2 and Cure III spam. was fairly easy. Likes to spam Dispelga early, as well as a AoE move, I think the name was Light Blade. Anyways, Easy battle.

Doing this fight for my static brd with a set-up of WAR73/NIN36(me), NIN73/WAR36, BRD73/WHM36, RDM69/BLM34, BLM72/WHM36, and WHM74/BLM37.

Tanked as 73WAR/36NIN with no real problems.

We had a 73NIN/WAR.. Who likes to get one shotted by WS's and let me tank. (See Pelican, same nin >.>)

Anyway, at about 90%, NIN eats Light Blade, dies, I have to tank, Defender goes up, Lorica goes on, Voke, Voke, Voke, Warcry, switch to Harness for the extra Eva-. AoE's after I just put shadows up was a **** off, 30sec downtime isn't nice >.>. He didn't hit terribly hard, around 90 a hit, with 50ish Additional Effect, but they were dispelled quicky by the RDM, or BRD we had. Everytime I got hit with Light Blade, WHM was ready with Cure V. I never took more than 900 with Light Blade, defender was constantly up, but I managed to keep a good rate of 80+ damage per axe. Was going smoothly, everytime he wiped hate, I switched to Lorica to get it back. BRD didn't have time to buff me with anything, except for the Soul Voiced double March which wore. :3 I was hasted, so I was attacking and getting shadows up pretty quick. Was around 20%, WHM, RDM and BLM were running out of MP. I hit Mighty Strikes, Defender wears, hit Berserk and Rampage, Down to around 10%. WHM get's a bit of MP back, due to good Curing from the BRD :3 And no Light Blades (phew). Anyway, no reason a WAR can't tank this with a good whm. Fun as hell, i'd love to do it again. :D

(Tanked Zm12 an hour or two later, but that's easy so it doesn't count)

Went in today with the following setup:

70 WAR/NIN (me)
72 PLD/WAR
74 RNG/NIN
67 BLM/RDM
65 RDM/BLM
64 WHM/BLM

This fight took a fair amount of time, as he has alot of HP, but there were very little problems. Light Blade never did more than ~400 to the PLD, though he schellacked me for 1100+ TWICE, but I survived due to outstanding vigilance on thw WHMs part. Towards the end of the fight, he reset hate and floored the RNG with Light Blade. Now you might ask, what about shadows?

This guy managed to AOE everytime, without fail, before he used Light Blade. Every single time. Regardless, it wasn't too hard a fight. Extremely fun, with abdass CSes leading into it and after it.

Quick note, the DM tried at first to dispel his en-spells, but he recasts them faster than a gilseller claims Roc.
Rather easy

Went on Sunday with this:

65BRD/32WHM (me)
65THF/32NIN
70RDM/35BLM
70RNG/35NIN
70BLM/35WHM
75NIN/37WAR

He was really quite the pushover for us. We went in, RDM got {Connection Lost} as usual, and then when he came back, I Soul Voiced.

Gave the melees double Mambo, the RNG his Prelude, and the mages double Ballad. Was able to stick both Requiem and Elegy on my first tries (Also had Opo-opo Crown and a Pamama, though).

Nobody's HP went below orange, except for one random heavy blow that killed our BLM. But we Raised her and helped as much as she could.

I was seriously expecting more out of the Archduke of Jeuno.

did this with 75 nin,64pld (me),68blm,72whm,70war,65 brd
Lightblade really is that bad, and its really worse on lightsday, Well we won but had to try 5x b4 we got the nin to tank it. We got very lucky when I decided to cover. He double attacked critical hits then did lightblade, lightblade goes through cover. It hit the nin down to 4 hp and cover took the rest of the damage while he got shadows up this guy isn't so hard if you can handle sudden drop of 90% of your hp.tank definatly needs to be 68+

did this as

69pld (tarutaru) me
68whm (tarutaru)
68rdm (hume)
75drk (hume)
68smn (elvaan)
69thf (elvaan)

got it to little unver 10% then i finally surcame to his devistating abilities. i called for smn 2hr.

fenrir hit for 956 with howling moon. NM was stil alive. used hate reset. so fenrir lost all hate. NM died shortly after. no deaths cept my own.

that was the hardest fight of my pld career so far. hope to have harder ones in the years to come :)

(i did this with my 75 blm and i died on that one to >.> lol)

did this the other night, and our setup wasnt exactly ideal:

66 rng(me)
72 sam
74 rdm
62 rdm
66 pld
68 blm

our lack of a whm figured we'd lose, but we went anyway. It was a pretty tough fight, not the hardest ive done in the game, but no walk in the park. He loves to use Dispelga, His WS(which usually hits for about 800+) resets all hate, and he is immune to magic based on what en- spell he casts on himself. his AOE attack is the least of your worrys.

everything was doing well until the pld went down when he had about 25% hp, and then we went into "do as much damage as you can before he kills you" mode. I got off WS > Barrage > WS > EES before i went down, the sam 2hred but died before he got off his 3rd WS, then the blm and higher rdm finished him off with some nukes.

Pld is the preferred tank for this i'd say, but a very good nin could do it(ive seen ONE nin tank fenrir, and fenrir hits a hell of a lot harder than this guy does). He was only hitting me for about 180 with the additional affects of his en- spells. The WS is the killer.

did this last night with a 67 smn (me), 70 thf, 72 drg, 75 pld, 70 brd, and 70 whm. the whm wound up dead, but he was really no problem. watch out for silence, and aoe dispel

Just did this last night... and after the fight was over and beaten in one try... i look back and think we should have all been horribly murdered by Kam...
Party set up was:
73BRD/WHM
75BLM/WHM
70WHM/BLM
66RDM/BLM
66SAM/THF and...
66PLD/WAR... yea, we beat it... and me (pld) wasn't the suggested 70+ no one died, fight too awhile, but me and sam opened with darkness and him TA tachi:gekko on me. other then the food each job would normally eat, only i used potions, and only the whm used drinks. the only time i went really low in life was the one and only time he used ws whole fight, and i went down to 29 hp, kept hate, popped 2 potions, 2 cure 4s and was back up ready to go. took awhile, but was great fun.

Yeah, I'd say you at least need a 70+ tank for this, and maybe a 70+ damage dealer.

I just unsuccessfully tried this with PLD, BLM, RDM, WAR, DRK, and myself (SMN), all of us were either level 67 or 69, except for the 65 BLM.

we did pretty well, actually, despite the PLD taking 800+ damage from Light Blade. He seems to like to just randomly turn toward the mages which is the only reason we lost.

But yeah Silencega and Dispelga are nasty, and then that AoE damage+Gravity thing hurts too. Also casting a random "Bar-" spell seems to help against Dispelga, he never took off my Stoneskin/Blink/Reraise with Dispel, Bararea always went first.

He "randomly turned toward the mages" because Light Blade resets hate ^^

If not Light Blade, then one of his moves, but it resets hate ^^:

Considering that Kam'lanaut is a a Duke, Prince, and (my little ^_^) Brother, and has male pronouns used towards him countless times; I'm inclined to say that the other two posters were mistaken ^_^.

Spoilers!

I'm surprised this didn't come up previously. Kam'lanaut is one of the princes of the Zilart civilization, who ruled Vana'diel 10,000 years past. The Shadow Lord conflicted with the reactivation of the Gate of the Gods; and so it was necisarry to arrange to have him eliminated. As for him being good, he is. The Zilart fight for paradise, a world of utter beauty and peace. The process may lead to the death of a few, or all, of the byproducts of an energy reaction (the people of Vana'diel) but that is just something you'll have to live with. Theres a better explination on the Eald'narche board by the way if I'm not mistaking. ^_^
