General Information

Xolotl's Spawn Location
Xolotl's Spawn Location

  • Spawns between 20:00 and 4:00 every 21-24 hours after it's last ToD.

    • If it is unclaimed by the time that it reaches 4:00, it will despawn. If this occurs, Xolotl will respawn at 20:00 the next game day, and will continue this spawn-despawn process until defeated.

Xolotl Special Attacks

  • Black Magic Spells: Capable of casting all Tier IV single target and Tier III -aga spells a level 75 Black Mage possesses.

  • Gala Macabre: AoE Charm effect.

  • Danse Macabre: Single target Charm effect.

  • Silence Seal: Single target Silence effect.

  • Envoutement: Single target physical damage.

  • Final Revolution: AoE Magic damage.

  • Memento Mori: Self target Magic Attack bonus. (Effect can be dispelled).

  • Blood Weapon: All physical attacks performed by Xolotl will drain HP from the target equal to the amount of damage the attack does. Denoted by the characteristic mob two-hour animation.

Historical Information

In Aztec mythology, Xolotl was the god of lightning, fire, and bad luck, often depicted as a skeleton or a human with the head of a canine. Xolotl's primary functions were to guard the Sun whenever it passed through the Mictlan (the Aztec Underworld), as well as to act as the ferryman for the souls deemed worthy to travel to Mictlan.

Man this guy is fun! LoL. LS was doing Rostrum Pumps run and we decided to go check this guy. He was up so we took off to him.

We had a SMN carby pull him back, and 2 NINs kite the sacrifices around. Our main alliance got right up on him to fight.

Our PLD got charmed really early so we just slept him. He get uncharmed, we wake him, and just keep pounding away.

Then comes Gala Macabre. OMG this is one of the funniest things I've seen in awhile. LoL. I'd say 10 of us from the main alliance all grabbed our torches and pitch forks and started mobbin on the link alliance. LoL. I was laughing so hard I almost forgot to re-engage when it wore off.

All in all it was relatively easy and very fun. He dropped Zoolander Hat and Bandomusha Kote which I lotted a whopping 7 for. LoL. Tons of fun!

My LS took him down today, after several tries :(

Two BST kite his pets, everybody beats on him. When he got to 10% health we were kinda screwed. He spams Gala Macabre non-stop. Second it wears, everybody engages him again and BAM, Gala Macabre. At least nobody died during all this. First time he did it, whole alliance was charmed. Subsequent times, mages fell back and since hate was reset when we were charmed, the charmed melee didn't come after us :D

We had to eventually fall back and have mnk/nin tank a pet and let bst fight him with his pet, since it can't be charmed away from him. Once we did that he stopped spamming it for whatever reason.

We got the following drops:

That's right, not even a dark crystal. Just chain #1, 34 xp

Well, a couple of friends and I are killing this, because each of us wants one of the drops. We killed it the first time, got 1 dark crystal and Perseus's Harpe (what a stroke of luck for the Thief), and the second time we got 2 dark crystals. I plan to keep killing him until we all get what we want ^^ I got my eye on those Kote.
Not too bad with a good strategy
# Jul 05 2005 at 1:18 PM Rating: Good
My LS killed him twice this past weekend (our THFs want the harpe, and our MNKs want the kote). We had an almost full alliance both times.

We avoided charming by having BSTs kill Xoltol, and everyone else handle the summons. Once we got the routine down, it was pretty easy.

Unfortunately, first kill he dropped a dark crystal, and the second kill he dropped TWO dark crystals.

At least we got cool titles out of it: Xoltol Xtrapolator

Any idea know how his spawning works if he despawns at night? Will he pop the next day? Will be placed into a lottery with the arch corse?

Any info would be a great help so I plan to hunt with this guy with my ls soon.

He is, I believe, on a 21-24 hour timer. You do NOT need to kill other Corses to spawn him. When his window is open, he will appear in the same location always (not sure on POS, sorry) in that little clearing almost to the Boneyard Gully tunnel where there are also two or three scorpions. He will be out from 20:00-4:00 and if not claimed, will despawn until the next night, and will continue to pop again each night until he is killed. I am not exactly sure, but there might be a possibility that he could occasionally pop a little bit later than exactly 20:00, but the many, many times I helped killed him (see below! ; ; ) he came out at exactly 20:00.

Also it is important to note, that since it can be a long and involved fight, you will probably end up still fighting after 4:00. If this happens, be ABSOLUTELY sure he remains claimed and someone has hate on him. If you lose claim and hate, he WILL despawn then you will have to wait until the next game night to fight again. This unfortunatly happened once to my group, as we suffered many deaths from AOE charm, and had people zoning to reset hate and recover, and others kiting the summons, so X somehow lost aggro to everyone and poof! Gone. So we had to regroup, wait until next 20:00, and kiiiilll. One time, however, we had an almost full wipe out, but due to some extraordinary kiting jobs we were able to get back up and kill him, it was a good half hour fight haha.

Umm wow I wrote a lot lol. That's about all I can think of right now, hope it helps some, let me know if I was incoherent at all. Good luck with the hunt!

EDIT: (6-26-2005) On our 53rd fight today, Perseus's Harpe finally dropped! yayay Congratulations to Uubu now we can finally stop killing this grumpy old man!

A Thief in my LS has been after this knife for some time. I believe we are now 0/48 for the drop, although I could be wrong on the exact count but definitely high 40's. We have killed 30 some times in a row. No harpe, but many kote's, most of our link's MNK/NIN/SAM have them now (except for me I'm always slow!) Uncountable Zoo hats which just get /tossed or NPCed, and a good number of times just a crystal, or even no drop at all >,<;; Stingy ******* should atleast give some $$$

They have likened this drop rate to Kraken =\ Good luck to you all, remember if you're 0/10 it could be worse ;)

why dont you invite some bst's along instead of dropping the hat? I'm sure they'd help a lot too.

Uh... Actually we did try to invite some bsts that we thougt might want to have the hat, but we got stiffed, so if they're going to be such jerks to people that are just trying to be nice I think it makes sense to drop them rather than give them to ungrateful people.

Fought this guy again today. Same basic strategy except this time we had two BSTs so everyone else just stayed away from Xolotl, kiting the two helper skeletons. One of the BSTs was amazing/insane and popped a Cave Antlion before the battle, then quickly 2hr Charmed it. That Cave Antlion alone took Xolotl to about 80% health before dying.

One note : The two skeletons are pretty susceptible to enfeebs (Gravity, Sleep, Silence) early on, but become more and more resistant as the battle continues. We were half tempted to kill them and let them respawn in the hopes that the new pets would be as susceptible as the old ones originally were, but by the time we decided, Xolotl was pretty much dead.

What an amazingly chaotic but fun fight!

A LS mate suddenly shouted that Xolotl was up, so a group of us ran/teleported as quickly as we could to Attohwa Chasm. He spawns at night (20:00) around E-7, but despawns if unclaimed by 4:00. However, if he pops and despawns, he will respawn the next day (and the day after... and after) if not killed.

Once we had all assembled (after dealing with some unfortunate agro on the way), we waited until about 3:30 AM. Last thing we needed was agro from the random skeletons and corses running around. The BST charmed one of the Tracker Antlions hanging around and pulled Xolotl.

Then the mad rumpus began! Our strategy was to let the BST continue charming the antlions and deal with Xolotl, while our ranged fighters dealt slow damage (we didn't have any BLMs). Meanwhile, we had one tank kite each of the two skeleton summons, with one red mage accompanying each kiter and applying gravity and bind as needed. Since the summons would respawn if killed, there wasn't any need to cast any other spells. The tricky thing is there are cracks on the ground that you have to avoid, or else an agroing Cave Antlion will pop out and possibly link the other (normally non-agroing) Tracker Antlions.

Everyone pretty much stayed out of Xolotl's way, although with people running back and forth like mad, we had a few cases where a single person got caught in his Charm-ga. Hilarity usually ensued, but a single "Sleep" is sufficient. The Charm effect doesn't last that long. DRKs were mainly there to Stun his -ga spells, and apply the occasional DoT spell, but the main damage was done by the BSTs antlion pets.

It was a slow but steady fight, and we finally brought the death god down (just a few hours before nightfall, ironically enough). Of course, while we were all whooping and celebrating, our kiters reminded us that they were still being pounded by the pets (which don't despawn when Xolotl is killed). Fortunately, they are a LOT easier than their master. And our valiant BST even got the drop, while we all got a really cool title : Xolotl Xtrapolater!

This fight is pretty fun. My ls botched up the hate around the time he used gala macambre and got about 8 ppl charmed and they all started running after the poor whm(ME!). I lasted a good 15 seconds though, I was pretty proud of that.

Killed this last night for a friend THF in the LS.
Party setup:
bst 70
smn 70
smn 70
smn 70
smn 73
smn 72
thf 75

We decided to use a bunch of smns instead of normal party setup just to avoid members getting charmed and take less dmg.

Thf and the bst kited the summons and any links/aggro while the summoners concentrate on the NM. Best damage against him is spinning dive.

We didn't get the harpe, but it dropped the hat for the bst and the kote(one of the smn got it).

Fought him last night, very fun fight. I was about 1/3 for sleeping the skelly's so i wouldnt plan on that as a strat. Even w/ my 2hr they didnt really want to sleep so i ended up kiting them. At one point he AoE charmed about 10 ppl leaving the remaining 6 to run away while trying to sleep the horde chasing after them. Nothing funnier than watching a large portion of your linkshell turn around to attack you.

0/10 on the dagger btw

Xolotl has 2 Pets - Xolotl's Sacrifice (War) and Xolotls Hound Warrior (Blm).
After you killed 1 pet, he will be repopped by Xolotl about 1 minute after. The Blm Pet uses magic like Sleepga II, Poisonga II and Blizzage III.

Lol, when I read that he would charm PCs, I thought you meant he would charm 1 person. But no, he uses Gala Macabre, which charms everyone within range. It's hilarious to watch all your melee friends go beat up on the little taru BLM in the back.
