General Information

Odqan's Spawn Locations
Odqan's Spawn Locations

    • Odqan will only spawn during "foggy" weather, which generally occurs from 01:00 and 07:00 game time. Odqan is not a guaranteed pop when "foggy" weather is present in Misareaux Coast.

Odqan's Special Attacks

  • Circle of Flames - AoE physical damage with an additional Weight effect (Circle of effect originates from mob).

  • Formation Attack - Single target physical damage.

  • Refueling - Self target Haste effect (Effect can be dispelled).

  • Self-Destruct - AoE Fire based magic damage proportional to an amount of HP it possesses.

    • If its HP is above 20%, only a single bomb will explode. Below 20% there's a possibility of all the bombs exploding.

  • Sling Bomb - Single target physical damage.

Historical Information

In Mongolian folklore, the Odqan is the guardian spirit of fire. In Turkish mythology, the origin of the Odqan name, he was said to have a female counterpart, a more ancient fire spirit known as Yal-un Eke.

The weather lady in Tavnazia Safehold also gives a fairly reliable indication of when fog will appear. If the weather is nothing but "cloudy" then there is a high chance that fog will occur. Hope that helps a bit.

Ok, as a Blm I'm a little confused as to the weakness of this mob. Bomb types are normally arcana and therefore (stupid as it is) weak to fire.

Why is this mob different? Did SE finally wake up and make a nre bomb catagory (cluster) that is now weak to water and ice? Or is this in error as posted here?

Any mages out there that have experience with this mob? Can he be soloed as a Blm at 75?

So many questions...
Easy Win
# Jul 02 2005 at 8:09 AM Rating: Default
everyone looking for an easy way to kill it, just go with all the r acc+ you can get and bring 1-2 stacks of sleep bolts
you basicly kill him slowly without losing hate or getting exploded on

I dunno if its Int or Mnd or what that causes sleep bolts to proc but I attempted this as a 52 rng (maybe stupid but I had to try) and the bolts only proced about half the time, resulting in a fast death, so you might have to be higher lvl to have the stats to pull this off, Im gonna try again as 60rng/thf when I get there... will try to post about that.

had read up on it, and was out trying to farm dark clusters last night as a 75 smn/ 10 rng, seen it on widescan, sent carbuncle to attack it, did like 3 poison nails after fight was over carby's HP was 95% ( i did not attack it at all since i had no stoneskin/blink) droped cluster and subligar, so i would believe it is a random drop rate ( Thief is lvl 1)

Soloed this guy like 2 months ago as a RDM56/Nin28
Was fairly hard, used self-destruct twice, each time tearing though stoneskin and dropping me to half health. Took me about 30 min, only got the ring, sold for 10k :\

SE seems to like odd repop timer...
happened to run across it as brd/tng and kinda slaughtered it (lost less then 50HP, self destruct did a meager 15dmg) and decided to try as my thf60.

Solo'd it as THF60/RNG with kinda easy, worst fight he brought me down to ~700/940HP mainly thanks to a self destruct for ~190dmg.... even if u should'nt Hide+SA him, u can still sleep him (lullaby+sleep bolts tested) and go for a SA.

from camping: 1st time repopped the 3rd ingame day after death, then 4th ingame day after death, then didn't spawn in 12 ingame days !!!!, i just gave up after the 12th day..... (5cluster / 2 Atlaua's ring / 0 subligar dropped). Also gave 21XP for THF60

Edit: i carry bloody/venom/acid/sleep bolts, but like never use (bloody bolts drain about 30-40HP). Mainly using dagger (Darksteel Kukri+1 or Hornetneedle)to gain TP and use Slug Shot (marksmanship190capped/ Arabalest+1&Venom bolt) as ws.

EDIT: Odqan has aprox. 5.oooHP

Well this is what I know from camping the nm for about 4 days now. It spawns every 3-4 hours around 5:00-7:00 am (morning). It doesn't really look like a foggy day. More like if you see the sun rise on a clear morning then it'll spawn. People say you can SA + hide + ws, but I would not recommend that coz once you hide it disappears. I learned that the hard way. Enjoy

He has a Huuuuge spawn area.
It will be much harder for you to spot him unless you have some sort of widescan ability like a rng or bst.
Drop rates are horrible... at least during the 30 times i tried camping him. First his probability of popping isnt that great, perhap 1/2 ? And chances of dropping are just ;;

In mythology, Odqan is a Mongolian fire-spirit. His female counterpart is the 'fire-mother' Yaluneke.

Anyone else having trouble getting this to drop?
0/5 ; ; and i have only not gotten the spawn twice and died the first time fighting him. Also one foggy day i couldn't find him. The places i checked he wasn't there and it was a fast fog so i didn't have enough time to check the 3rd place

Reposted from the Bravo's Subligar item Page :Bravo's Subligar

Yes, this (Bravo's Subligar) is dropped off of the Notorious Monster named 'Odqan' in the Misareaux Coast. You will need to have access to Tavnazian areas to get to the Misareaux Coast.

The Notorious Monster spawns -only- during foggy weather. When foggy weather occurs, consider 'Odqan' immiediately spawned. 'Odqan' -will- despawn if the foggy weather effect goes away. 'Odqan' usually appears in G-8, I-6 or J-7. There are place holders named 'Atomic Clusters' that may appear in those spawn areas. 'Odqan' is a Bomb Cluster type mob, meaning that there are three bombs in the cluster acting together as one mob. This mob has approximately 2,000 to 2,500 HP ... unsure of exact HP as parser log was deactivated at the time.

Special moves include but are not limited to the following : 'Formation Attack' is a single hit weapon skill. The damage of 'Formation Attack' is unknown as a shadow blocked the attack. It seems to only be a single-hit weapon skill, unlike 'Jet Stream'. 'Odqan' also has a 'Self Destruct' skill that will allow one bomb in the cluster of three to blow up. The surviving bombs continue to fight on. The highest amount of damage I took from this attack was 113. 'Odqan' also seems to have an ability that gives it temporary Haste.

The Thief ability 'Hide' -will- work if you need to do SA+WS while engaged or just to get away. 'Steal' not used. 'Mug' not used. Does not seem to aggro at level 67. I soloed 'Odqan' as a THF(67)/NIN(33) and again as THF(67)/RNG(33).

- With the Ninja sub-job I barely fell below 950 HP and keeping Shadows up with nearly no plus Evasion gear was fairly easy. As this was my first battle with the Notorious Monster I used a Meat Chiefkabob, a Perskious au Lait and had Bloody Bolts for a backup.
- With the Ranger sub-job I fell steadily downward into the 700~750 HP range. I took the most damage from two 'Self Destructs' and a few critical hits, but spamming Bloody Bolts and Dancing Edge gave me the upper hand to finish off 'Odqan'. No food was used on the second battle. Got the 'Bravo's Subligar' drop on the second battle.

Also, here is the web page where I got my initial information from. At the time I needed to know the spawn points and this page has it :

eLeMen FFXI Database

It isn't too useful unless you translate it via Altavista or Google ... I tried to put in the translated link, but the forums didn't like it.

Also, for those of you wanting to know what Odqan and fog looks like, here is a picture off of te above web site :

A lvl 60 brd and me(a lvl 57 blm) sleep tank this thing, we almost owned it but brd had to leave right at that moment ; ;, so we didnt finish with a little more then a sliver left. I think it spawns during fog weather.
update: kicked its butt, all we got was a cluster core
