i got my jaegar ring a weekend ago ^^ was so much fun we killed 8 of 'em but wiped initially because the pld couldn't get invincible off. 8 bandanna's dropped and 1 ring which i got my lot off before i died since I was last man standing:P. we all got a bandanna of those who didn't have one yet and then we came back later to kill the last 2 and we had 2 sallets drop which i lost the lots on for both:-/ oh well i got my ring so i'm happy ^^
just thought i would add a little bit of important information regarding this NM.
just got out of a bit of a marathon session killing these flies off and on and whilst fighting them 1 by 1 having the THF kite the rest we had someone claim with sleepga (they said they tried to help, yeah right) and when they claimed and we killed the mob we got no drops. the teleported out of the island back through the displacement so didnt technically "zone". so if someone happens to claim and you're doing the 1 by 1 methed i suggest you ask them to leave, if they dont then call a GM to complain about it. we killed another fly and got no drop again whilst the BLM was still in the zone and so i called a GM to see what was happening. eventually i couldnt get the GM to do anything he just told me to carry on and see what happens i lucky had the BLM log-off, so decided to continue and we got drops again.
i think because the mob is classed as a single mob, as it's in a party with all the other flies then if someone else claims you loose drops on it until they zone and reset hate from their part.
This fly is 21-24 hour spawn, it pops immediately after going through two portals. You need a giant scale from a firedrake to enter through the first portal. Once you pull one, which has to be a pld or thf using their two hour, all of the flies in the area link to the one you pull. I believe there is eight of them. We won with 3 summoners, 1 blm, 1nin, and a pld who pulled. The flies cast slowga and aeroII. Each Astral Flow (Shiva) that got off did 300-400 dmg per fly. Elemental seal StonegaII did around 100 dmg per fly. They usually drop a lot of headbands, 1 or 2 sallets, and 1 or 2 rings.

How far into Promathia do I have to go before I can fight these NM's? I am hoping to finish up my last Promy next week. Do I have a lot to go before I can fight these?
I don't know if 5-6 Lv.40 BLMs can do 1,500 DMG in aga spells before getting pwned. I'm pretty sure they can't be slept even with horde. GL if you do try it!
The best set up for this party would be to have 3-5 SMNs and a PLD. This is what my party set up look like:
PLD/WAR <-----Me SAM/WAR SMN/? SMN/? SMN/? SMN/?
Its quite an easy fight if u have a good strategy. Get to a safe spot to fight away from the pots which will aggro. Then let the PLD provoke one Carmine Dobsonfly and they will all aggro. Once PLD starts to lose health fast and they are all swarmed around him he uses invincible. SMNs all astral flow and use diamond dust (AoE) with Shiva. You win!
These flies are the bane of my existence. Got Riverne A01 access a coupla months ago for the specific purpose of fighting these flies. Still haven't gotten to fight them once.
only got 1x ring and 1x sallet and like 10 Bandanna's lol. PT setup was PLD.BSTx3 and BLMx2
weird setup i know but you can take you pets through the "zones" so the BSTS charmed and 2hr IT Flies (tricky but its not impossible) and Blm's kept sleepga up, we won not much diffuculty. Thanks CoDE <3 my new ring^^
What level are they? And what are thier drop percentages? How many are in the area? If I took a paladin or thief and a ton of summoners, whats the min amount of summoners I should take to blast them away with astral flow?
How would a THF do against these? Perfect Dodge and pull and have the SMN 2hr? We dont have any PLD in the LS that have Riverne access but we haev like 5 THFs <.<
Hello all, i was wondering how useful a RNG would be in this fight, assuming i went with the norm of PLD, 3x SMN and maybe BLM or WHM. 1) Do sleep bolts proc on these ? 2) Will my barrage/WS be enough to finish em off after the astral flows?(if any are still standing). 3) Could/would a THF go pseudo-RNG and throw in SATA for the extra kills, since my THF has marksmanship and Archery capped (although i wouldnt ue Archery).
I'm fairly certain that RNG main or THF/RNG woiuld be similarly useful, but in different ways, mainly would like to know if sleep bolts proc on them. Thanks for any help.
VERY nice free ring, best hat for a monk ever (as far as i know of), and another free bandana that looks like it would be a great free alternative to Emp. Pin for a NIN or RNG ^^ cool :P
a little question you guys talking bout smn x4 but what lvl?? was a post a bout a lvl 40 pld si that the lvl range you guys talking about if so any pt of 6 members 70+ should kill theese flys ease ??? or? any thougts in apriciated
Make sure when your 3 summoners use astral flow that the fly they are targeting is in range. Things can become a little insane with 10 monsters attacking your paladin so you have to be careful and stay calm.
I just got access to Riverne but my LS only has two others with access. Has anyone waited in the zone and joined a PT there? I tried shouting in Jeuno for a bit but nobody has replied. The Sallet would go perfect with my Dark Knight AF gear (not high enough for the AF helm yet) so hopefully somebody can give feedback on this ^^
Carmine Dobsonflies have a 21-24 hour spawn timer. 10 of them will spawn at the same time. All of these will link no matter how far away they are.
A pt of 1 PLD and 3+ SMN's should be able to take them out. PLD uses Invincible before he pulls any of them, as soon as all Dobsonflies are hitting the PLD the SMN's use Astral Flow, Diamond Dust would be your best option.
Another option would be to bring as many damagedealers as you can get your hands on and have all of them attack the same fly to take it out fast. The WHM should reraise and then raise the rest of the pt... then repeat until all of them are dead. This strategy will cost alot of exp, cost me around 3k exp and I only got a Dobson Bandanna (lost lot on a Jaeger ring and the sallet didn't drop because we had to rap it up when there were 3 left).
We did it with 1WHM, 1 PLD/NIN flash pull + 2h with 3 SMNs astral flowing. Got a few drops but unfortunately left 7 flies with a sliver of HP left so we died. We're waiting till 2h is up again and finishing off the flies with the same PLD, 4SMNs, and WHM is changing job to BLM/THF for treasure hunter.
It's a lot of fun. 4 SMNs can definitely kill all the flies no matter what the rest of the PT set up is.
Very good information Caidos. But i think that instead of going in with 3 smn, 1pld, 1whm, and 1blm. I was thinking more along the lines of 3smn, 1thf, 1blm, 1pld. Reason being is that the 3smn could all just summon out shiva. Then the thief could grab one and use perfect dodge after hes being hit for a little, wait for all or almost all to gather, then have the pld use invincible, All flies would gather around the pld, then have all smn have the avatars attack, and have all 3 smns cast diamond dust. If there is even one fly left, have the blm cast blizzaga, then ES + sleepga if there is even one left standing, then the thf could use SATA on one being slept and finish one. And while the pld is attacking one the whole time and all 3 avatars before the astral flow ability, they should all be dead. Plus having someone there with Treasure Hunter might help with the drops. Just a thought.
Just thought I'd share my experience with these NMs.
The NMs are fought on the island at G-11 on this map, as was already stated. You need one Wyvern Scale to get there. Make like you're going to Monarch Linn, except after you use the first Scale, go left. This is on the island with Hawkers, Bombs, and Flamedrakes. It is the first vortex on the left.
The island itself is fairly small. In the middle are two Atomic Clusters, which generally stay out of magic aggro range, but occassionally float too close. I highly recommend killing these before engaging the NMs. Also, a Flamedrake patrols the back part of the island. He never came close enough to aggro us.
As for the NMs themselves, they have an estimated 1500 HP from checking the logs. They melee a 40PLD using Tacos for about 35-50 a hit, so prepare for this. They are partied, so if you attack one, all ten will link regardless of how far they are on the island. Also, Carby cannot pull one at a time.
They use various wind-based spells, most commonly Aero2 and Slowga. I caught one of them Hasting itself once, but they rarely use it. They love to spam Slowga, so it's very hard for NIN to keep their shadows up.
They have the standard Cursed Sphere and Poison Breath that regular flies have. They also have:
Sommersault: ST physical damage Debilitating Drone: AOE stat down (seemed to be random stats)
Diamond Dust from Summoners is highly effective against them. As WHM, I tried to use ES Banishga2 and the BLM used ES Stonega2, but both hit for around 100 damage to each fly because of the damage reduction against multiple targets. They are highly resistant to sleep, though ES Sleepga slept them all. They might build up a sleep resistance or resist Lullaby, but we weren't able to test it.
All in all, this fight is definitely doable with a single party. I went with PLD, SMN x2, RNG, WHM (me), and had a second RNG the first try and a BLM for the second. Diamond dust hit in the 500's each time, so three Diamond Dusts should be able to kill them all. I'd say the ideal setup if you can only bring one party is PLD, SMN x3, BLM, WHM, however more people never hurt.
As for the drops, we got 6 Dobson Bandanas (they stopped dropping after everyone got one, so I assume they're near/100%), 3 Voyager's Sallets, and 3 Jaegar Rings. We killed two the first day before calling it quits, and returned the next day to finish the other eight. Overall, we had about 35-40 deaths total, because both times we were defeated before a SMN could get the second Diamond Dust off. If you bring a BLM, you can try to use ES Sleepga after Invincible wears off to allow for a second Diamond Dust from a SMN. If you can't get two or three SMN, load up on RNGs and bring plenty of Reraise Earrings. Go full out on one Fly and either move onto the next or try to run. Reraise and repeat as needed. And remember, every one you kill is one less you need to fight on next assault.
Hope this helps anyone trying to get the Ring or Sallet. Happy hunting. ^_^
