I know everyone else is saying that Ultima is easier than the others, but I am finding that to be the opposite for my groups. We are beating the mammets and Omega with 20+ minutes left and Ultima has been kicking our asses.

We just cannot beat it for some reason. Omega was a cinch. . . only 1 death usually. . . .

what can we possibly be doign wrong? setup is usually whm rdm nin war blm thf. . .

Completed last night as RDM/BLM/BLM NIN/WAR/DRK

Lack of a whm was not a problem, in fact he did not use petrify once. The most dangerous part was his chemical bomb. Lands Elegy + Slow on a sinlge target, in this case myself as Ninja.

Anyone who has levelled nin knows that elegy + slow would generally spell doom for a nin, as it sets the Utsu:Ni recast to well over 1min 30seconds. I quaffed a blind potion, threw on my bat earrings, and prayed for some good stuns.

Chemical bomb lasts a while as well, so keep this in mind if you're using a nin tank without a white mage who can erase. The cap is 60, which means no sub erase. With a little luck and skill we were able to avoid any serious damage, but it could have very well cost us the battle.

WHM is not needed, but erase would have helped. Found ultima to be considerably easier to defeat than omega. If you clear mammets and take down Omega, your group won't have trouble with Ultima. Just be prepared for the worst, as things can go from calm to chaotic in a matter of seconds.

So fighting this nasty beast tonight, and when it gets to around 25-30% he started using equalizer.
He used equalizer until our war/nin, Busterblader iirc, died from it, nin tank took maybe 300, thf/nin evaded. War reraises and BAM another equalizer before he lands on his feet. I cast raise on him, and....yeah....BAM another equalizer before he landed on his feet. The thief evaded all three of the equalizers, nin took maybe 100 total from the ones after BB died initially.
Then Ultima whipes us when he is at 2%.
Everyone raises, time over.

The moral of this story is.........goblin bombs do not make good soccer balls.

First try, whm got the kill
# Mar 27 2006 at 12:08 AM Rating: Default
Gotta post it. White mage killed ultima. Holy for 200+ dmg.

PT setup
Nin/war, mnk/nin, war/nin, brd/whm, rdm/whm, whm/blm (me @lvl 58).

Mammetts were probably the hardest part honestly. Our tactic was Nin gets aggro and runs in corner. Everyone else takes 1 at a time while the rdm bind/silence/grav another, leavning 3 on the nin. Nin keeps utsu spamming, never voking or attacking. The problem was the constant level 2 ga spells. Yes, yellows would have been good to bring, but they drop them during the fight so we used them as they were dropped. Had a quarter master set so they'd get used almost immediately. Full HP/MP restore after.

omega. Just long fight. It was actually really good becuase whm and brd died to a mis placed Guided Missile early in the battle and did the rest of it weakened. Plus, it LOSed us in the beginning and knocked whm and brd down to double digits from the get go. Other than that, it was just a long fight against him. Oh, and war died during her mighty strikes and whm died after that from all the Cure IV spams. It died. Another full hp/mp.

ultima. Not as bad. It spammed Chemical bomb a lot, but war was good at keeping hate control and voked it off nin while whm erased. mnk got it a few times as well. As the whm, all I was doing was curing and removing statuses. Brd died from one too many aoe's while keeping songs up on the melees (mombo×2). Did an SC and had rdm chainspell the magic burst. Used CCB's on ultima at ~30%. Whm (me) killed it with a holy.

Meds used, lots of Hipots (since you can spam those). 2 ethers for the whm after dying, reraising and finishing off with omega while weakened. Melee used hipots and xpots. I think a yag drink was actually used. During ultima whm used a ProEther (250 mp). Other than that, it was easier than Diablos and we didn't wipe. Though, we did it in 40min! So we really couldn't have afforded the wipe.

Last night I tried this with my semi-static CoP group. Our setup wasnt the best but it was working perfect for the last missions:

NIN, WAR, BRD, SMN, WHM, BLM

As I said, this setup was going great. Until we got to this mission, and BAM! This setup just sucks completely now. Thanks SE for ******* people over!

Anyway, our first few runs were a little dissapointing. We couldnt get past the mamments. They all kept changing to BLM and just raping us.

Following a few dead runs, we got past Mamments. We owned Omega no problem, and took Ultima to about 40% and ran out of time /cry

A few more failed runs got us no where. We can get upto Ultima but run out of time every time now.

Later that night our SMN and WHM left to goto bed. They werent part of the static anyway, so we got two diffrent people. DRK and WHM. And tried again.

Same results. No Win. Ultima 40%ish and we run out of time. I must say, this mission is bs sometimes. Although the moves are random. Its pretty cheap when they are either spammed or something of the sort. As for the mammets. They all change to BLM at the same time pretty much everytime on us and just rape us.

We are gunna go for the win again today =/

I hope we finally win. ; ; (We are gunna try a new setup as well I believe. Will post results later.)

=============================================
=================[ EDIT ]=================
=============================================

Woot we finally won. :D

Our new setup was:

NIN NIN MNK RDM WHM BLM

I went RDM instead of BRD this time. And we replaced the SMN and WHM with diffrent people (Sorry guys ; ; but SMN just wasnt working.)

Pretty much same strat as before for each part.

Mammets:

Each NIN take 2 mammets. (Voke one, attack another.) And have the MNK tank one alone. They can solo them no problem.

BLM just helps with nukes to finish them off. While WHM and RDM run around healing lol. (They can use magic and phsyical shields just like in RA01 so be ready to turn or stop casting.)

After mammets are dead we had 36 minutes left. (Very good shape :D)

Next on Omega. Regular EXP style for these fights. NINs take turn tanking. MNK needs to be careful with TP attacks here to not pull hate. NINs did SC and BLM bursted. RDM debuffed, helped cure, and kept haste on NINs. And that went pretty smooth. We got him to 19% and wiped cause of pile pitch ; ;

Reraised, rested. CCB'd him and finished him off with 16 minutes left. (Very good shape :D)

Onto Ultima, same setup. And strat. BLM and RDM debuffed and slow nuked, WHM cured (duh lol), NINs tanked and MNK beat it up. No TP moves from MNK where used till later. NINs take turn keeping hate ect.

When he was at about 40% he wsa starting to get a little nuts. MNK 2 hour'd and went to work. Before lone Ultima is at 10%. CCB'd him to prevent problems, BLM 2 hours an starts casting burst for the win. But before he could finish MNK finishes it off with TP and we got the win :D

Clear Time: 40 minutes (I dont care if it took us 44minutes and 59 seconds... we beat it.).

mammets=pwned <to weak>

omega= triple bursted @20% <dust>

Ultima= owned uuntil 25% when suddenly ancient magic started hitting for 0
tier 2 spells hit for 5-10
and tier 3 spells hit for 0 <Bullsh*t>

anyone else ever had this problem?

Ok we just finished this guy, the problem was we miss timed ccb. setup was 2xwar mnk nin whm and smn.
smn 2 hour @ 50%hp owns him but tell ur smn not to get to close or EQ attack will end him quick.
used 6 ccb all total. and at 25% both war and mnk did 2 hour, it was over in 25-20 sec, melee eats this guy up.

Ultima/Omega spell would ***** this game up so much, its just retarded (you'll see when ur 75, its like the little kids who go "ZOMG RAISE TEH LVL CAP CUZ I A 13 WAR/RDM AND I WANNA GO TO TEH 99!"). also, Ultima and Omega weapons = already taken. in this game, the monster Ultima and the monster Omega are the "weapons" so no luck on that either kiddos. now...

Being able to summon Bahamut and have him serve ginger cookies while wearing a pink apron for the new DRG 2hour = YES =D
forget recommended steups.

Won this easily with only one mage - a RDM (Manofsteel)

3xNIN

and 2x WAR

We did lose a dry run 1st where we used no items. But the real run ran smoothly. You do not need a WHM. Don't worry too much about recommended setups. Use the jobs your best at and make it work.

In the true Final Fantasy 2 (not released in America until Origins/Dawn of Souls), Ultima was considered White Magic, based on these grounds:

Black Magic depended on Intelligence to deal damage.
White Magic depended on Spirit to deal damage.

Ultima upped Spirit when used enough.
Flare (it's so-called "opposite") upped Intelligence when you used it.

That's the first appearance of Ultima as a spell. The true, blue, Final Fantasy 2.

Quote:
In FF7, Ultima WEAPON was very easy, though you had to fight him a couple times, since he'd run away after you would do a certain amount of damage. Omega was not in that game, though.

I do Beleive that Omega was in the "International" edition of FF7, exclusive to Japanese gamers.

So does this dreaded Equalizer attack go through Utsusemi or no? I've heard from some people that a nin tank is preferred for this fight, but I don't quite see how if he's gonna be spamming 1,000 damage on him.

I'm not sure, but our COP static doesnt have the luxery of a ninja tank, and preatty soon we will never be able to do it with ninja tank with the update coming up. So what i figure is that this HAS to be beatable with something other than a ninja tank, because otherwise unless you have sea access now, you would never be able to get it >.>

btw we tried again with a different setup and he litterally had like a centimeter of life left before we fully wiped out. We won't quit yet though, this is the only entertaining thing left in the game for a few of us -.-

Edit: Should probably say what setups we had -.-
first time was DRK RNG PLD RDM WHM BLM(This is when equalizer came out of left field for the first time) Sort of winged it and just went along; I(drk) stayed up close so i could hit, and healers kept getting hate from me getting hit with aoe's, so we switched the setup to this

second time was SAM RNG PLD SMN WHM BLM.. pld of course tanking, sam and rng stood outside shooting, and came in close for Skillchain; also this setup provided a better use of 2hrs, which still proved to fall just short of victory >.<

with both setups, rdm/smn and whm switched off healing to reduce hate on 1 person, pld self healed/hi potioned the whole time, blm periodically stunned whenever things were getting out of hand with healing and MB'd.

Edit: WE WON!!!!! /hurray, same strategy and such, we barely zombied him to death, i think the pld was the only one that wasnt in "weakened" state, lol, but gl to anyone who does this.

This ship BC finds new ways to annoy me; once we got past omega finally, we thought "smooth sailing"

that was wrong! We were doing great on ultima until it got down to about 30-40% life and he did Equalizer, which dropped me. So the other 5 are still taking him on and...wham, equalizer, drops whm. Now we think "go all out!" almost immediately after that one he did ANOTHER equalizer, dropped everyone but the ranger, which didnt last but another hit. btw, spent around 700k in ccb polymer and potions for the fight...

To say equalizer is "heavy damage" is an understatement. Unless your a paladin, |Good bye.| (btw our rdm actually got hit for 1k flat, well over his max hp >.<)

lol! Ultima has always been a Black Magic Spell, and Holy was the opposite of the Ultima spell.
and Ultima has always been an enemy as well for that matter. only in earlier games it was called something I can't remember.

Ultima has no opposite, Ultima has always been a non-elemental magic attack in FFs

Well, Holy's opposite is Meteor, and in the games its appeared in Ultima is not listed as either black or white magic (in FF6, its first appearance, it is simply Attack Magic, as is Holy, 7 had materia, 8 had draw, and 9 Kuja used it). I think the perfect place for Ultima in this game is as the final Level 4 skill chain, should something like that ever be implemented.

And Atma Weapon in FF6 is supposed to be Ultima Weapon.

SE should include the Ultima spell from the older FFs in the next expansion as a 75 blm spell, annoying scratchy casting sound and all. Then again, they should also include Sephiroth as a fightable HNM, too. :-)

um...if Ultima was a spell, wudn't it own everythin? its non-elemental which means it wud unbalance wat is already ok with the game. Sure its great on VI-X (and II, kinda) but its online an u'd just get a BLM75 with this spell to go in an own anythin!

easiest way to control that problem would be to give it a long cast time, a very high cool time, and an ungodly mp cost.

Nuclear Waste: massive elemental resist down.
Various elemental attacks (Hydro Cannon is the only one I remember off the top of my head).
Some name I can't remember: Slow. Doubles recast times.
Antimatter: ranged single-target damage.
Equalizer: Huge AoE damage.

It starts using the last two at low health.

EDIT:
"Wirecutter: single target physical attack
Particle Shield: defense WAY up
Turbo Fan: area effect damage (presumably air elemental)
Hydrocannon: frontal damage (presumably water elemental)
Smoke Discharger: petrification
Equalizer: heavy area effect damage
Antimatter: heavy damage single target attack"

Didn't notice this list Hashmalum posted near the bottom. Stupid me.

For some reason, Hydrocannon is spelled Hydro Canon in the video I saw. Typo, I guess.
