Tip on Vilma Ring
# Oct 03 2006 at 6:12 PM Rating: Decent
1/7 on this guy

9-12hr pop on Overgrown Rose

Vilma Ring is about a 5% drop rate.
a good way to camp this guy is kill it before u go to bed and wake up on with Rose Garden's window open.
EXAMPLE: i kill it at 9:30-10:00PM est, i went to sleep and woke up about 6:30-7:00AM est with Rose Garden looking at me.I killed the PH and went to work, came back home and Rose Garden is up again, thats 2 claims a day i get.
A good way to tell if no one have kill the PH(Overgrown Rose)
is to leave ur character on overnight and have him target Overgrown Rose, take off ur ls and all chat filters, just in case someone has killed it and messed up ur 9-12hr wait, and believe me people will do that.

Rose Garden's drop rate is about 5%, so i figured kill it in 5 sec lol, i dunno why i thought that but it worked, i was duel boxing my g/f's character(73WHM) and im a 75RDM/NIN,she used Earth Crusher at 300tp and i use Savage Blade at 300tp and it MB'd for 455 Scission, so i cast Stone 3 right after that and got MB. WHM kept on casting Banishga2 and Banish3 on it while i nuked it with Thunder3,Blizzard3, and Fire3 and finally it died in about 10-12 sec total.

Got Drop:Vilma Ring 1/7

:::TIP:::

So heres an increase of % on that drop.Supposedly when Rose Garden is up for a certain amount of time, Voluptuous Vilma will spawn and the drop rate is increase to about 15% which is still better than the 5%. But goodluck on this drop i hope my info can help u in some way,if your on Bismarck server send me a /tell

Word of warning for Ragnarok players. ;)
# Sep 11 2006 at 9:09 PM Rating: Decent
So this guy named Godzilla on Ragnarok has killed the Place Holder a few times on his main job saying he is death warping. First off, what n00b DWs with their 60+ job in the Jungle. No he purposely killed the Place Holder so timer would restart. So... I check him. Oh what's this. An innappropriately named LS. GM call :) And this picture will tell the rest of my story.

Long story short. Monoplizing is bad mmkay. :) Mess with fire and you'll get burned. I don't care who you are. Ask Bobdeezz. I ain't afraid to cut anyones throat. :) I shoulda been a THF >:D

Wow! So Silverwulf goes and kills the placeholder and says "Tell illivatur I said thanks" OMG! That's harrasment and more monoplizing of an NM. GM Call 2 :)
2 players and 1 LS in one day! I'm on a roll. Don'tcha just love stupid people. :D Heres the link to this GM Call :D

Maybe, if you 2hr yes. It's 65 so it would be a tough fight. Also, if you DO 2hr, your going to give it TP faster, and Bad Breath would hurt you alot. I'd go with a mage just for safety measures. Also, /thf hasn't helped me with drops at all. I've even had a THF with TH+4 help me. No drop 3 times.
My 2 cents worth.

I'll add my 2 cents worth of experience though...
I've camped this NM religiously for the past 4 days now. I've actually sat in front of my PC from the time it's reached 8 hours after Place Holder pops tell the Rose Garden is claimed/killed. I've had all chat filters off so I see every bit of text. So far no ones touched the Overgrown Rose. A few people have come by and joked around saying that they are gonna kill the OR... which to them might be funny... but to those of us who have sat and camped this for hours, days, months, it is not funny at all. Anywaz, everytime Rose Garden pops for me it's after the 10 hour mark. I have yet to see it pop after 11 hours or before 9. So far the 10 hours and 12 minutes is pretty true. Not exactly 10 hours and 12 minutes, but always around that time. First was 10 hours and 23 minutes, 2nd was 10 hours and 14 minutes and third was 10 hours and 11 minutes. Anywaz, those of you who are camping it. Good luck. Thanks for listening to my 2 cents.

Also to answer the Q below, yes Overgrown Rose does depop when Rose Garden pops. So autofollowing it or auotlocking onto it won't work if it pops.

Trying to camp this for the last week... people just can't leave sh*t alone long enough. /sigh
Something I was wondering.. if someone tries to kill the Overgrown Rose.. and that person dies. It's considered tampered with right? So.. if someone aggroes it and runs and ends up dieing... since the mob would depop.. that means timer restarts right? But how sure is anyone that tampering with the PH without killing it resets the timer?

Targeting
# Aug 21 2006 at 2:25 AM Rating: Decent
so here is my question.. your autoing it.. does it automatically change names, or do you have to change the target when it turns into rose garden?
Targeting
# Sep 09 2006 at 11:07 PM Rating: Decent
Yes the Overgrown Rose depops and out comes Rose Garden. If you are /following Overgrown Rose... you will run through the NM, and look like an idiot walking into a wall for hours. So going AFK past the 9 hour mark is silly. Cause I have had a guy camp agianst me and he did /follow and I swear to god the next minute it depopped and Rose Garden was up and I claimed, he camp back and was like WTF you kill PH for? >.> So his loss not mine.

Well cmaping it is not too bad once you know whats up. Just takes some simple addition.

I get 2 shots at him per day. Basically, I kill the PH at like 8 pm, then later that night I log offin his area. Before I go to work in the morning, I log on to see if Rose Garden is up (this is about 10-10.5 hrs into it). Ive been lucky so far on this.

If hes not up (or even if he is) I will kill the PH and restart the timer and go to work. While im at work I stand on the top of the bridge and keep target lock on so that I wont aggro if Garden pops before I get home. So far so good, as hes popped within 30 minutes after I get home.

Camping it defiantely tanks time to do. So far ive been lucky in that no one else is camping it and kiling the PH while the clock is running. Only one time was my target lock off, but he still ended up popping within the 9-13 hr window. go figure.

Id like ot get the drop and be done with it thought ;/

He very easy for a 75 bst. Barely puts a dent in courrier carrie (literally takes like 5% of carreis hp is all).

I sub thf and bring 4-leafed clover and wear trump crown... all the gimicky crap... but still no luck.

this NM can be crap to camp apparently. 0/4 on this drop now as 74thf, easy fights as /nin haven't tried as anything else.

I haven't gotten drop yet and it sucks when random people run by and aggro the PH during the window... =/

basically, if noone else is in the pit (don't be a **** and try to outcamp someone on this) kill the PH, target the next one that pops and lock-on it. then go to sleep, go to work, go do whatever for 8.5 hours. then come back, if your still locked on then sit down for 1-3 hours and wait for it to change to NM, if your not locked on then go do something else in game, or kill PH again and go away again for 8 hours.

if you sit under or on the bridge you won't loose target on the PH through all it's roaming. out of the 4 times i've gotten NM to pop i've sat there for the time span for at least 8, but people kill PHs randomly often.

PH = placeholder = overgrown rose

Saw this on my way to Yhoator jungle. I was 60nin/30thf and decided to kill it.
Cast Utsusemi: Ni and used Sole sushi. Started fight with Kurayami:Ni and casted all debuffs paralyze worked out pretty well. Fight was rather slow but he didnt hit too much. Bad Breath was meanie one too 350hp and gave the status effects. Took 4 echo drops to get silence off. At this momemnt i got hit twice and both hit
90-100. Anyway shadows up and continue poking it paralyze was still mean.

It finally dies gives 35 exp and malboro vine >>.
How to Spawn
# Jul 06 2006 at 9:55 AM Rating: Decent
I've been camping for this ring for quite a while now, 1/11 on the ring, finally, On top of which I've gotten the last 11 in a row. Each time I camped, I had had Thf subbed for Treasure Hunter, BLM75/THF; most of the time not even a Vine or Pineapple droped from it. Very easy kill, very suseptable to Sleep and Sleep II.
I've seen some posts above, and after reading them all, it's easy get mislead.
Hopefully this may help, go off of what I've experienced:

How it can spawn:
First of all, you must kill the Overgrown Rose to activate the timer in which Rose Garden will spawn within 9-13 hours. With the time I have camped, 12 hours 34 minutes has been the longest I've waited for it to convert from Overgrown Rose to Rose Garden.
If you decide to show up and wait 24 hours and no pop, that doesn't mean it's a 24 hour + NM, it's the fact that the Overgrown Rose has been tampered with since you got there. When I say tampered with, it means that some one has either gotten aggro from or has tried to ranged attack or cast on it etc. Any time it is tampered with, it MUST be killed and the timer MUST restart at time zero and unfortunately wait 9-13'ish hours.
Rose Garden can't spawn at any other locations, it spawns at only (I-7) in Yuhtunga Jungle, don't waste your time trying to find alternative ways to spawn this NM. I highly doubt SE made it so Rose Garden could have multiple spawning conditions, they aren't that advanced yet, nor will they ever. Perhaps until the Gil sellers have been banned, will I believe there are multiple spawn conditions.
Sorry to those who believe in this theory, but it can spawn under any conditions. Rainy (single or double) weather does not need to be present for Rose Garden to spawn, though it can be present. Same goes with the butterflies that often times are flying around.

Look closely at the Voluptuous Vilma post on JP site, does that look real to you? I may be wrong, but I thought JP screens mob's were written in Japanese Symbols. If that picture is perhaps real, unfortunately I know that after leaving Rose garden untouched for 9-13 hours, it despawns again to an Overgrown Rose. There's a 1 percent chance of Voluptuous Vilma popping, probably even lower.
Good luck to all on the drop, for I am yet to get it to drop, despite hours of camping it.

Recently it seems 5 people from the infamous gilselling linkshell "DragonFlyingSky" on Remora seems to think killing the rose every 5 min will eventually make it spawn Rose Garden. It's kind of amusing actually, the red mage killing it even died a few times. It's even pissing off a few players, it's hilarious watching them vent. I've been camping it for 2 weeks, and I'm at 0/5 so far, but I really don't care if it never pops. Camping this has been a much needed break from FFXI, and I'm getting alot accomplished. My advice to anyone who camps this, just leave your character logged in and check in periodically. It's been fun not playing FFXI all day, AFK camping is the best thing ever.

First-Time RG Camper
# Jun 01 2006 at 1:56 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, I camped this guy all night last night and after killing the OR and marking the time, using the /follow trick, I got up this morning and checked for spawn of RG. Nothing... then after reading this forum more thoroughly I realized I was camping the wrong OR in the wrong area! Ugh, so I find the right one, kill it, mark the time, /follow. I come home from work and I was still /follow on it but I checked the log and after 8 hours of no disturbance I see that someone had been defeated by it. Talk about frustrating! However, this is a really great item and well worth trying this out a few times before giving up. Thanks for everyone's great info! ^^

Something interesting I noticed, can't confirm though.

I killed Rose Garden yesterday at 4AM. I left my character in the spawn location until 5PM the next day, at which point I left. Noone touched the Overgrown Rose after I killed Rose Garden the night before.

My theory is that you actually have to kill an Overgrown Rose to start the spawn timer for Rose Garden. Either that, or the spawn window is longer than 12 hours.

I'm going to have to shoot this theory down. I've been camping Rose Garden for over a week now and I tried letting the Overgrown Rose that pops after defeating Rose Garden stay up for 10+ hours. And it popped Rose Garden. So perhaps yours was tampered with or something. :/

Rose Garden: What You Need To Know

1/11. This morning it finally dropped for me! In the course of my camping this thing, I have figured out quite a bit. Without these forums, I would not have had any luck... so I decided to share and confirm various things. Here are the facts you need to know:

- Although there may be a mob named Voluptuous Vilma, be assured that Rose Garden *DOES* drop the ring. For a while I wondered. But now two people in my LS have gotten a ring from the NQ spawn "Rose Garden." Supposedly Vilma will pop if Rose Garden is left for 10 hours and drops the ring 100% of the time. The chances of this happening are incredibly slim, so don't get your hopes up and just camp Rose Garden.

- Based on the figures I have read on this site and others, I would guesstimate the drop rate at slightly less than 10%

- If not touched at all, the Overgrown Rose at (I-7) turns into Rose Garden after 10:00-10:30 roughly. NO OTHER OVERGROWN ROSE IN THE ZONE DOES -- this is a common misconception. Basically, you will see Overgrown Rose "fade" into Rose Garden -- somewhat of a simultaneous despawn/respawn. If your cursor is on Overgrown Rose at the time, it will lose focus during the despawn/respawn... so if there is competition, keep your cursor on a bee to avoid this rather distracting side-effect.

- Start camping at 10 hours of an untouched Overgrown Rose and no sooner because it is a waste of time. I have seen a LOT of spawns and never has one been before 10 hours. If Overgrown Rose is touched at all, the timer is reset -- even if it kills the person that touched it and does not despawn (found this out the hard way).

- Rose Garden is mostly easy if you are high level. Its accuracy is fairly terrible. If you are not high level, do a little research before camping.

- The best camping technique to use is:

Kill the placeholder, wait for it to come up again (5 minutes), tack a /follow on it (and keep your cursor on it), and come back 10 hours later on the nose. If you are still /following it with your cursor on it, then no one has killed it. Check your chatlog to see if anyone has touched it and died to it just to make sure. I always /pol'ed before using /follow to clear my log. Please use some manners -- if someone is camping the placeholder keep your hands off -- I'm guilty of violating this rule twice, but oh well :). Many times, though, you will find the placeholder uncamped due to the frustrating nature of this NM. This is particularly true at off-peak hours. My pattern was to kill the placeholder at 8:50PM, then check my follow and camp RG at 7:00AM when I got up. Then I would kill the placeholder again at 7:45AM and camp after work. I was able to get two spawns a day this way on occassion. Many times the placeholder was killed and -- because of the /follow -- I knew it so no time was lost on my part. If there are others trying this technique, try to work out a schedule with them so that you both have an equal shot at the claim.

This is all you need to know to successfully camp this beast. Good luck on camping this really terrible NM!

I had a weird day, I couldn't sleep so I logged on, and camped her for a bit. Nothing. So I camp Micholas as RDM/SMN and don't get dagger. I'm the only one there so I head to Kaz and sub THF and head back to camping him. I check on RG, but some RDM with Errant is sitting there /anon now. I head to Mich and get him again, this time with dagger.

So I head back to RG spawn, and she's up. The Errant RDM must be AFK. I tell my LS and my 69 SAM friend (Ancient) comes and lays the hurt on her. The fight was less than 20 seconds long, I got the drop. No more will I visit the spot. I told my LS the ToD, and washed my hands of this NM.

Luck does favour some people.

Was on my way to a manaburn (spent so long setting up I was due to log in 30 mins ><), and Rose Garden is up, promptly making me reach for a fresh pair of trousers. I have come by there for months on the off chance..
Anyhoo, due to its annoying regen, burning it (alone, kept it quiet from pt) proved useless (got it to 50% before bailing), so i got a rep and very very hurridly got on my thf, praying that no-one else was passing by my level, got a yhoat port, and pounded my way back, walking painstakingly slow with intermittant flees back, almost on the verge of panic.
I get there and thankfully its inviting a sneak attack, so i deal it one, the battle isnt difficult, got hit twice because i cancelled utsusemi accidentally, and.. well 1/1 on the ring.
Yes this is technically a yippee post lol, so i suppose i can add that a 60 thf/nin could solo it comfortably, and judging by experience (friends), every 9 hours there is the POSSIBILITY of a transformation into Rose Garden, and whatever the window for this is, if it closes, then there is another 9 hour wait for the next window. Just a guess, but it would explain why people i know have waited in multiples of 9 hours for this to pop, one of them going for 36 hours before it popped (insomniacs anonymous ^^).
Standard marlboro with what i guess is regen II, no special abilities otherwise. Weak to damage ^^

I was passing by whacking away at lizzies for yhoat quest, and I see this. Im also 60thf/nin, but i had a hell of a time with this one lol. his regen isnt too bad, but definately noticable. One big thing to be aware of is his special attack Sweet Breath. twice, it did 300+ damage to me, but from some reason the next 3 times it was use was 50 or less. Not sure what made the difference but w/e lol ^^ Was a fun fight, came close to dying were it not for bloody bolts (soooooo glad id been skill marksmanship lately lol). 0/1 on this ring, oh wells ^^ Just posting to say, your right, he isnt that hard, but you definately need to be aware of whats going on ^^
