General Information

  • Spawns primarily around the areas of (H-8), (H-9), (E-8), and (K-8) in Ro'Maeve.

Shikigami Weapon's Spawn Location
Shikigami Weapon's Spawn Location

    • Shikigami Weapon can spawn anywhere on the second or third levels, but it will primarily spawn in one of the four aforementioned locations.

  • Respawn time is between 21 hours to 21 hours and 15 minutes after its last Time of Death.

    • After a server reset, the respawn timer will be exactly 21 hours after the servers come back online.

  • Spawns with an innate Invisible effect that wears off only when aggroed, and will roam around the second and third levels.

  • Players are unable to attack Shikigami Weapon while its Invisible effect is up, though it can be detected through Wide Scan.

  • If all players that have enmity on Shikigami Weapon are defeated, or if they've lost enmity by other means, Shikigami Weapon's name will change green before its Invisible effect comes up again. Because of this, one must re-aggro it anew.

  • Susceptible to Sleep and immune to Silence.

Shikigami Weapon Special Attacks

  • Red Mage Spells - Shikigami Weapon is able to cast all spells available to a level 75 Red Mage, including the tier II merit spells.

    • Shikigami Weapon is also able to cast Diaga II and III.

  • Smite of Rage - Single target critical hit physical damage.

  • Whirl of Rage - AoE physical damage with an additional Stun effect (Circle of effect originates from mob).

Historical Information

In Japanese mythology, Shikigami were spirits summoned by sorcerers known as Onmyoji that could take the form of birds, small animals, or as disembodied entities capable of possessing people. A skilled Onmyoji was capable of calling forth up to a dozen Shikigami, though it was possible for Shikigami to break free of an Onmyoji's control, rendering them dangerous to their former masters.

Guide to this NM

Seeing as this NM drops the greatest piece of armor ever for summoners, I thought i'd share the information i've gathered camping this NM and successfully getting 7+ robes for my LS.

Ok first thing you want to know, I think someone posted this earlier, but in case you don't know. Shikigami's pop time is not 24 hours. He pops between 21:00 and 21:10 hours from his last time of death (ToD). Secondly, he does not only appear at night, but he is always invisible. Bring a ranger, beastmaster or a /rng /bst to pick him up on widescan. Also, when widescanning don't bother reading all of the mob names, if he's up he'll be the last one on your widescan mob list always. Also if he's unclaimed for a while (uncommon) he may pop off of widescan, he doesn't despawn but he will occasionally jump locations and you'll have to track him again on scan. As for pop location, i think he can pop just about anywhere, but he tends to pop at the following positions most often: (H-8), (K-8), (E-8) and (H-9). I spot him on widescan at H-8 the most often personally. If you have to run very far to claim him its nice to have flee or mazurka up since there tends to be competetion on him; remember to put up sneak (and invis if bombs are out). In order to claim him, you need someone to cast some kind of spell near him or link him with another weapon. I personally prefer just aggroing him with magic and avoiding links. Keep in mind that when he appears he's not yet claimed so it's nice to have something like dia or stun or provoke / shadowbind standing by since many people will follow others wait for them to pop him and then steal him as soon as he appears.

Fighting him once you have the claim really isn't too terrible. I'm pretty sure he's a rdm or blm mob since he uses spells like Cure IV and Stoneskin and some elemental spells and even some AMs as well, be sure to silence him. Either PLD or Nin can tank him easily provided you have a dedicated healer. The only thing you have to watch in this battle is aggroing other mobs, because everything and i mean EVERYTHING aggroes to magic in ro'maeve. If possible, pull him to an area w/o weapons or dolls in the area such as H-8 or H-9. It's wise to bring a rdm or a blm for sleepga since 50% of the time you're going to get links fighting him and 2+ weapons using whirl of rage can really be a problem. Hell sometimes you get people trying to MPK you so you might need sleepga even if you're not close to any other mobs so bring a rdm or blm just in case. As far as fighting him goes, he's basically equal to an Aura weapon in sky with more HP, also other weapons do not link to him but you can still aggro them by using magic near them of course. A party of 6 can easily dispatch of Shikigami provided you dont aggro like 20 mobs (and i've seen that happen before). I've seen him trioed by a pld/nin, rdm/blm and a smn/whm... no idea how they lucked out and got the claim but they fought him and killed him in about 15 minutes w/o any aggro from other mobs. You dont need any specific set up to kill the NM but you will need a healer and at least one or two good DDs because he has a built in auto-regen, it's not very strong but if you lack DDs it can prolong the fight considerably.

I'm not sure of his actual drop percentage, but i'm 7/15 on the drop. I assume it's something like 45-50%. That's about all the info i have on this NM. I wish all of you high level summoners the best of luck in getting this robe because it is truly great. The only downside is you look like you're a monk with a Jujitsu Gi on =P, but that's better than looking like an xmas ornament in a vermillion cloak =P. No summoner should be without this robe if you're that kind of person that likes to have all elite gears. Good luck :)

Just got this today, thanks a lot for everyone who helped out!

The ToD was 21 hours for me.
The NM spawned in the tunnel at H-9.

I was able to locate it, agro and claim. (Our group had no wide scan so I went as Smn/Rng.) I used Wide Scan to find it, then summoned a Light Spirit to agro it, and then the Light Spirit engaged the Weapon automatically getting the claim. Thankfully I had a party. The tank pulled it off of me and the healers healed me. Although I flet really useless in the fight with a Ranger sub on me.

Damn SE for making such an awesome Rare/Ex item that only drops from a NM with a super long respawn time! Can anyone give me some tips on getting the ToD on my server (Carbuncle)? My friends suggest searching the zone to see if a lot of /anon people are in the zone at one time. But a lot of people travel through this zone from time to time heading for exp spots. It's hard to tell that way. My RNG is only level 3, so my widescan doesn't reach very far. And this zone is dangerous even to players in their 70s, so it's not like I can just stand around by myself in the middle of the zone with no sneak or invis just to use widescan. I've tried hiding under the stairway arch at H-9 once, but that spot wasn't completely safe, either.

Also, anybody got any suggestions for party setup when fighing this thing? Jobs/levels?

to be honest i didnt realize that widescan was affected by characters level. im a 75 RNG and i can tell u that from the zi'tah zone my widescan covers all of ro'maeve. knowing this, u could safely spend 21-24 hours spamming widescan from the zone until u get ToD. or u could bribe/beg a higher level RNG buddy to do it for u.

Sorry I forgot to add that the statement that this NM only appears at night is false. I don't think i ever saw him pop at night now that I think about it.
A helpful guide to this NM ^.^

Hey all you ffxi peoples! This is my first online post so please bear with me lol. I just wanted to share with you all the knowledge of Shikigami which I have acquired from camping him 10 straight days.

First off I would like to say that this weapons name is so ironic seeing how one of my best friends online is named Shikigami :O.. anyways on to business.

I decided to start camping this NM about two weeks after he was added to the game. I got his Death time and figured that he would pop 21-24 hours after like usual hnms. However, this is NOT his window. It is actually 21:00-21:05 after previous death.

Next I would like to tell you how best to claim him... Rdm/Rng. rdm can magic aggro him and claim super fast, and can sleep any adds. as /rng they can widescan and track Shikigami, who by the way will always appear on the bottom of the widescan list.

The best camps while waiting on pop are under the staircase at H-7 and H-9, as he can pop anywhere along those two arches.

Regardless of job, once you see this guy pop (if there is competition) use a Hermes Quencher to flee (Don't forget to have Sneak up! and remember... bombs are sight). I ran by at least 30 people with ease this way to get an easy claim, it was rather amusing lol. Once you get to him spam bar-? (i used barfire because he likes to cast flare sometimes, which he can cast in just a couple of seconds!) and he will slowly appear. Quickly Dia/Flash/Provoke or w/e because he is still unclaimed at this point. Nothing is worse than getting him to pop then someone steals him, and then then dying from all of the other magic aggro which you obtained from casting bar- spells.

Once you have claimed this beast of an NM, you need to find a safe camp. To put it simply, get a summoner to use a lvl70 Blood Pact on him, then the party sneaks up and runs to H-9. This, or the entrance, are by far the best places to fight him. And just to let you alll know, other weapons will not link to Shikigami, only vice versa. So don't worry if you sneaked up.

Now that you have the NM and the camp it is time for the fight. Essentially just treat him as a regular weapon. Have a ninja or a high level tank, a designated healer and someone who can Sleep any adds which you most likely will incurr. Silence him then hit him with everything that you got, mages stand back from Whirl of Rage, and pray to got that you get the drop. By the way, the drop percent from my experience was about 40%.

Lastly I need to warn you of a few tricks that this bugger is hiding up his sleeve. For one if left unclaimed long enough, he will "jump" from one part of the map to another (excluding moon). When this happens anyone who is currently tracking the guy will lose it, so quickly widescan and get back on him! The other crazy thing that this guy can do is actually run up the main staircase leading from the Sanctuary of Zi'tah to the Hall of the Gods, and then hop down from it onto the two main arches at H-7 and H-9. As most of you probably know that staircase is inaccessable by character players. It is so funny to see 30+ people chasing after this guys then all suddenly stop and scratch their heads in question lmao. As well if he goes unclaimed, yes he will actually cast Invisible on himself and start hopping around the zone again.

And I do believe that is all that I can really say. Good luck to all of you out there on this! I would love to see more NA players get off their butts and go get this Robe =P. On Alexander there are only 5 NA summoners with this at the moment. It is the best piece of summoner gear out there, so enjoy it kiddies. Any feedback/comments on this post will be gladly accepted.

p.s. for any who dont know yet, the "Avatar: Enmity +5" on the robe goes to your avatar =P. It makes solo jobs that much easier.

Just looking for a comfirmation...

"Appears at night" means he's like a ghost or skeleton-type, and will despawn at daybreak right?

Or does that just mean he'll only pop at night, but after he pops he stays up until he's killed?

Also, if the former, after he pops, will he continuously re-appear every night until he's killed?

Shikigami Data (from actual long time camping)
# Aug 05 2005 at 1:00 PM Rating: Decent
I've helped Purely gather info on this NM and as have i since day one of it being released i've camped it straight for a week since it was implemented to the day i've killed it.

K-8 IS NOT its pop location. I've thought it was randomized but no, its always started its run @ H-9 in ro'meave. i've experimented by clearing K-8 10mins before its pop and spamming attracting spells and 5 out of 7 times its started @ H-9 (the other 2 i've gotten there after it was spanwed and claimed).

It spawns exactly 21 hours to its previous death and will spawn Invisible and non-targetable.

it has a 50% drop rate.

And is as difficult as Aura Weapons found in Shrine of Ru'Avitau (sp?)

It is NOT a RDM-type mob, i've only seen it use normal weapon TP abilites. i.e. Smite of Rage, Whirl of Rage.

Also alla has it classified as a Skeleton when in fact it is an Arcana Weapon.

BST and/or RNG widescan is the only way to pinpoint its location and it will NOT become visible @ night. The only times its visible is when it is being fought.

Hope this helps and clearifies things.
(GO GET THE ROBE PURELY!!!! ^^v)

Possible technique to solo as SMN
# Jul 25 2005 at 8:07 AM Rating: Excellent
34 posts
I have been keeping track of this NM on Seraph since the day after the patch release. This is what I have discovered:

As Purely has stated it does not just pop at (K-8). It's pop time is 21 hours since the last time of death. Once spawned it runs around the 2 rows that pass through (H-7) and (H-9). While invisible it cannot be targeted or seen on the radar. The only way you can tell it is up is by using a RNG or BST wide scan. It will drop invisible by linking with other weapons or by magic aggro. Once it drops invisible anyone can attack it while it goes unclaimed!

By far the most effective way of claiming I have found is to have Carby out and cast Cure on yourself as it gets near. Carby will then tag the mob for you stopping any other party getting a voke off once it drops invisible.

Clearly for this to work you need a magic aggro free area. The mobs have a 16 min respawn - so timed correctly it is possible to clear a spot to pull this off. Carby can stand up to the NM rather well - there is plenty of time to get out of range and recast when he goes down. The problem with this however, is the magic aggro in the zone. With some luck it should be possible to pull the NM to the bridges at (J-6) or (F-6) and kite between them. Since no weapons spawn here there is no danger of links and Sneak is not needed.

I tried using this tactic earlier today and successfully tagged the NM and started to pull towards the bridge. Using up a Silent Oil pulled hate off Carby and I went down. However, I do feel that with some luck and a lot of skill a SMN could solo this NM using the method above.

I think you're forgetting to take in to account that if it pops at the 21 hour, that's twice in one day.

Ok...in the bestiary it lists all the other weapons in ro maeve as not linking...so that mean they wouldn't link to this, right? Shikigami will link to other weapons, but other weapons won't link to Shikigami, correct?

Only things in the area are Weapons, Dolls and the occassional bomb. Not a BST friendly place. I'm sure a couple 75s with CourierCarrie or better could do it though.

NM Name: Shikigami Wepon
Zone: Ro'Maeve, With no set Pop Position, Moves around the top ring of the zone, moves fast
Spawn Time: 21-24hrs
Agros by Magic or Linking
not a 100% drop rate
If your party dies, it will go invisable and Can not be Provoked by another party, they will have to re-agro it to get it to spawn for them

Must have Rng or Bst to Widescan for it

also been reported on other boards that it can spawn daytime or nighttime

my LS has owned this NM, we are 3/4 on him. once you get claim he is about as dificult as an Aura weapon in sky, may have a little more HP but he doesnt hit too hard. has poped at the 21 hour mark everytime we have camped him cept the first time when we first discovered him. we lost claim once to a SMN, he tried to solo. died and i voked the NM but he still turned invis. after we tracked him down and claimed him we had about about 10 SMNs as spectators.... its going to get ugly soon, LS needs about 1-2 more and i hope we can get them before it becomes overcamped.

I've heard this mob is invisible and can run through walls, unsure how true this is. But it will help to have widescan to find it.
