Last night I camped wespes to try and pop demonic tihpia, with 3 friends Myrmidon 71 drk, Salvation 75 whm, and Darkemerald 71 blm and myself 75 mnk for about 4.5 hours. Darkemerald and Myrmidon joined me at about hour 3 as I was figuring it would pop soon, and Sal soon after. Well as I was killing placeholders soon after Myr had to leave i hear Sal say he got it, and flee'd my *** over there (i was mnk/thf for a little bit of treasure hunter). It was hitting Sal (75 whm) for about 50 a hit I think, not much more than it hit me for >.< gotta love mnk def lol. Anyway after a link we decided to pull it away from the other bees in the area and we went to work. We were doing Asuran fists -> Hexa strike -> mb thunder I think, and doing good dmg, then the ******* starts the pollen nightmare, a little under 3k regen every time. After a few more minutes he had returned to full HP as sal and DE were healing (we were only @ about half mp for pull) So I only got to about orange hp then mages were ready. I popped hundred fists but it laughed at me and used pollen 2x and boom back to full health. Then Sal and DE kicked it up a notch. They started trading off silence and DE with stun. This got it to the point that I was actually wearing him down. It started a cure v but I interupted it with a crit, then tried again and sal got silence off. Then it was back down to 50% and I look down frantically as my HP drops to 0 out of nowhere! I look up and the bee was doing some ws animation, then I realized it was final sting, hit me for 1780 dmg, what do i care tho sal is there for rb3. Then I look at the log and see nothing. Damn bad luck. Then after about 30 seconds.....

You find a Tiphia Sting on the Demonic Tiphia.

Really great job Sal and DE. Awesome skill was shown, thanks a ton!

Me and a 75 blm duoed this. It took over an hour and we didn't get drop (2/3) on drops so far but we just sleep nuked it and one person kept it silenced after 50% while the other just nuked till it died.

Tiphia definately has a mini-rage mode thing going on.

Initially it would hit me for 60-80 and I would hit for 35-40. By the 30 minute mark I was barely hitting for 10-15. By 60 minutes 0-5 and was getting clocked for 150-200.

We ended up zoning it and letting it full heal so it would reset (as by the time the reinforcements had arrived it was just plain not killable)

Confirmed.

I was holding it as 75 BST (carrie easily tanks this fight), and after 50-60min the damage the bee dealt doubled, and carrie started missing 95% of her attacks.

Zoning fixed it.

Got the kill but only royal jelly drops >.<

I just killed this guy as a 75RDM/BLM and had a 75THF buddy with me. What we did was:

1) Sleep
2) Aspir (if needed)
3) Silence (easy to stick but doesn't last long)
4) THF SA (and Dancing Edge if they have TP)
5) BIND
6) Cast 2-3 level 3 Nukes
7) Sleep
8) Rest
9) Go to step 2 until dead

I tossed out Gravity and kept stone skin up most of the time. Drain got me 200+ HP so I was going to chain spell drain him to death near the end but he ended up final stinging the THF for around 250 points.
We got the drop - I use it for my MNK and BST. Very nice little ammo slot item.

Good luck and happy hunting.

Me personaly the first time i fought it it was a +5 hour fight as a rdm/nin. It was unreal fight with me going throw almost a stack of meat Chiefkobos and 3 stacks of shihi* (not sure on spelling) but damn it was not wanting to give up. Pollen was my main issue and being it was my first time soloing it i didn't expect what it was capable of. Yet now experienced and with constant battleing it i'm now able to solo it as rdm/nin. I'm 2/2 on the soloing part and its a challenge for those that want to solo it to think of creative ways to defeat this NM.

Any job with Marksmanship rating, and the ability to use Sleep Bolts can solo this NM. It rarely resists sleep, and at most it'll get off the occassional pollen. Velocity Bow a good choice for this NM.

As a 75 rng/nin can i solo this with sleep bolts? Ive heard its sleepable and if i just kept shooting it with sleep bolts then slugshot when tp 100% with darksteel, then rinse and repeat. I assume i would need a faster xbow then o bow but would repeating xbow be nec. since pollen is instant? has anybody tried sleep bolt method?

A 74 BLM and I just duo'd this after hunting it for about an hour. Long fight for both of us and crazy HP regen from its Pollen's and Cure V's it spams at the end of the fight.
Just be sure to keep Silence and Paralyze on it when you fight it. No drop, but fun fight.

I was farming Lizard Skins on the Labyrinth Lizards as 57BST when I caught this on Widescan. I ran over to see a 75THF/NIN fighting it. He almost died quite a few times due to bad-timed Pollens. Eventually, he ended up calling in his friends, RDM/DRK, and BRD/BLM. After the stunning, it ended pretty quickly. He said he didn't get a drop, but maybe he misunderstood what I was asking, since he was Japanese.

By the way, the THF/NIN didn't take many hits, but Tiphia was just curing too much for him to dent his HP much. =/

Just beat this punk with 71 MNK, 70 DRG, 75 RDM, 75 RNG. Took us 6 minutes max. Light SCs ftw. Got 2 in between his pollens and dropped him to 30% HP, then he final stung our MNK for maybe 600 dmg a drop in the bucket for his HP.

Paralyze took to him really well, didnt see him erase at all possibly because of the paralysis. This guys hits like a sissy.

No drop, 2 royal jellys and a wind crystal, boo.

Fought this thing today and holy crap, this thing is amazing. Started the fight w/ 2x bst 57, bst75, 2x blm75. The bst were throwing scorps and crawlers at it, but it just kept curing itself w/ pollen. Eventually we drag it to Simurgh's exit and play w/ it at the zone for a while and notice that it does sleep. So me and the other blm start doing a nuke, sleep, aspir, nuke, sleep, aspir strategy and get it down to 30%. At this point it starts spamming cure V as soon as we wake it w/ our nukes. (Thunder IV is only hitting for 330~ anyways) We have it stuck at 30% for 30mins now b/c of Cure V, then it gets a pollen off and goes back up to 80%. I'm about ready to give up when aspir starts draining 0mp! We continue to sleep > nuke it back down to 30% and it does final sting. No drop, but it does eventually run out of mp.

To the people that say it can be solo'd... Only if it uses Final Sting. At 30% it spams Cure V instead of erase. Multiple blm doing a synch nuke + sleep is the best way to go aside from throwing massive DD at it.

I just killed it with SMN (myself) and BLM. I carby-kited the mob until the BLM got here (was still at 90%), then used Ramuh's BP and BLM's Sleep to kill it. I did get the drop, for my MNK (who only had Happy Egg to equip before).

MY LS mates found this guy today and we wrecked it! We had 75 War, 73 WHM, 71 Nin, 58 RDM, 62 BST, 51 BST (Me). Me and other BST 2 hour'd Crawler Hunters and it was on. We got a Wespe link, but we dispatched it quickly. We then got it down to 50% HP, it used Final Sting. War/Nin with over 1500 HP went down to 5 HP in no time. The fight was over before we knew what happened. We have heard that this is a 21-24 hour pop, so we are going back tomorrow. Yeah, we got the drop. Hopefully it will sell quickly!

And this IS NOT an HNM. HNM's are over lvl 75 and give a title. This fits neither of those categories.

Those are considered HNM because they existed when the level cap was 50, HNM does mean the NM is above the level cap. It's just some of the old HNMs kept their title

Well, I was going to buy from the AH, when I was tipped off that this mob had been up for a while, so I head down to camp it. When I get there, to my surprise it's up. I'm a Galka MNK75/NIN37, and I didn't know what I was up against, so I claimed.

I had this NM down to 50% two times, and he had only gotten through my Utsusemi twice (through a fault of my own). However, 2 Wespes linked out of no where, after I'd been sitting still for 20 minutes. When the wespes linked, I knew it was over, so I called my LS.

We showed up, and as a party (all level 75) of DRK, MNK, RNG, WHM, RDM we absolutely destroyed this. The Tiphia Sting dropped. I think a MNK/NIN could solo over a long period of time if he took it away from possible links. However, Final Sting will go through Utsusemi, so be careful if you don't want to die. Pollen is an annoyance, but it will only keep the mob alive for so long. The key to this is to keep Utsusemi up at all times, and with a Brown Belt + Fuma Kyahan, the recast is short enough that you can do it without ever getting hit. If you have Byakko's Haidate, or choose to wear Panther Mask, then this will be a breeze.

This mob also spams (yes, spams) Erase on itself, so don't waste your time on enfeebs. The best way to beat this is by evading. Note also that it is very strong defensively, and my Asuran Fists never broke 700.
Nasty NM
# Aug 08 2005 at 12:19 PM Rating: Decent
A couple of my LS members had the wonderful idea to camp this HNM, so me (WHM56/BLM28), a RDM (RDM~58-61/???), and a PLD (PLD~60-62/WAR??) headed to the spawn point and proceeded to murder some Wespes. We kill them pretty easily, so the other two state that Tiphia will be a breeze to kill. In the meantime, I look up information about it on here and MysteryTour. About that time, this thing pops so I have to stop for a moment and pay attention. We take it to a safer spot, where other Wespes won't link with it. We keep fighting it, and I end up running low on MP when a 72 BLM and 72 WHM Tarutarus pass by. They ask if they can help, so we have them join up with us. We continue the assault on it, and thanks to the BLM, we get it to roughly 60-70% of its max (even though the BLM was only doing 200-300 damage, 311 using Freeze)... then it suddenly pulls out a Cure V, healing itself for about 550 HP ... about 3 times in a row, with a Pollen in between healing for about 2k. I gag with surprise, then read off from this page's information to the team. They -still- say we can take it, but I say we need more help. So I get a hold of a DRG75 friend of mine, who comes soon enough. After a few rounds, we get a L3 Darkness SC going, hitting it for about 1400-1700 HP damage per SC round (3 WSs). We are able to pull it off a couple times, get it to about half, when this thing really gets annoying... and pulls out a Pollen that heals it for about 3k HP. Simple put: WTF. My team -still- wants to fight it...
Overall, we fight this annoying-as-hell HNM (which isn't a damage-dealing HNM, but is a continuous-healing HNM) for about 2 hours before we have the 72 BLM escape us out to leave it to a notorious mob-stealing, MPK'er THF70 on our server... even though after he ran through with a couple Rumble Crawlers when the thing used a 2000 HP Pollen, we didn't see him again (gee, I wonder why ^-^ ).
I want to have this thing killed sooooo badly. Thought about an alliance set-up that might be able to take it: 3x RNG 70+, 3x SMN 70+, 3x SAM 70+, 3x BLM 70+, 3x WHM 60+, 1x PLD 65+, 1x DRK 65+, 1x RDM 65+. Simply put, BLMs nuke the sucker while the RNGs, SMNs, and SAMs 2-hour this thing as fast as possible right at the battle's start. I know, a little far-fetched, but hey... THIS THING ANNOYED ME! =^-^=
That's my story on fighting this HNM.
Bee
# Aug 07 2005 at 9:28 AM Rating: Decent
I have taken this mob down a few times with a RDM from my LS and all but one time that we fought it, we did a sleep-nuke style of killing. I(blm 75) would buff up w/ stoneskin and blink(to keep the bee's TP down) and then start casting Thunder IV on the bee. About 2 seconds before the spell goes off, the RDM would cast Sleep 1/2 and it would be inactive instantly. This thing is completely resistant to magic nukes, being a Thunder IV does about 1200 on mobs the lvl this bee is supposed to be and it did 350~. Since the bee is constantly sleeping/silenced it has very little chance of casting spells and only ONCE did it use Pollen which was a sloppy nuke-sleep round.

Gaawh this guys SUCKS!

For the record, a lv 73 war/nin or a lv 75 mnk/nin can NOT, I repeat NOT solo this guy! Ya, I got greedy and cocky, lesson learned :P

With a 75 Mnk/nin solo attept I lasted a LONG time, about 30mins (used Chakra apx 5-6 times, and even my 330 Chakra's don't run toe to toe to a 2k+ Pollen). With store bought eva gear and some AF parts, this guy wiffs a good deal on a mnk/nin, and hardly hits hard enough to give you concern...BUT...

The BIG, and I mean BIG problem is when he uses Pollen or Cure 5!! Luckly, a Mnk can typically interupt many of he's Cure attepts, but just ONE pollen can bring him back from 1/2HP...to nearly full! With a Rdm debuffing(Silence and paralyze are key) and throwing on some DoT spells (Bio, etc.), this helps greatly, but I can say from experiance, even with 100 fists, it does not cause enough dmg fast enough soloing to make this a fair fight. In short, its more like a painfully SLOW and drawn out death to a Galka mnk if u try to solo it!

I can not vouch for the use of Benediction, granted one can EASILY mistake a "good" Pollen from this NM as a Benediction, and frankly in practice wiether it was Pollen or Benediction that brought it back from 1/2 HP to FULL, one thing is clear....IT SUCKS!!!!

I can Vouch for the one shot Final Sting >.>; I took it for 1800+, but on the bright side....I got the drop! Rather nice item for mnk's considering the only "practical" item that could be placed in the Ammo slot that we could equip prior was a Happy Egg, Fenrir's stone or a Optical Needle.

Hard thing is if you duo this guy with a good melee/mage, the linkless pull is your first BIG challenge! This NM likes to pop right in the center of the pack Wespe!! A lvl 75 should have NP dropping a lone Wespe, but a link with this NM, will cause a slow painful frustrating death, concidering a attempt to run to zone will most likely result in a large train of Wespe, at which you'll be stung in the bumm all the way to zone...and funny that it sure seems like a LONG run when your chased by a NM and his friends :P
