MNK/DNC solo

After just over an hour of soloing this thing as 75 MNK/DNC I can confirm a few things about this.

1. It does run out of MP. Took ~50 mins for me.

2. It has some kind of rage mode. I had no trouble staying alive until ~60 minutes into the fight. Then it started hitting harder and more often. By this point it was no longer casting spells and getting low on HP so I was trying to keep my HP high in case of Final Sting. All my TP going into Drain Samba II and Curing Waltz II could not keep up with its increased damage output. I was wearing Rasetsu legs, hands and feet, Arakan Samue, Feral Mask, Retaliators, and DD gear in other slots. I ended up taking my Spike Earrings off to raise up evasion.

3. It's final sting hit me for 1323 and killed me. All it dropped was a Wind Crystal, but I was able to obtain it while dead.

My advice is to either come as a job that can silence it or bring a friend that can. If you want to do it like me though, I'd suggest using any damage dealing 2hrs as soon as you notice it not casting anymore. You don't want it getting into rage mode.
SAM/DNC Solo

Wanted to confirm that this CAN be easily solo'd by a 70+ SAM/DNC

Gear:
Scorpion Harness

Food:
Jack-o-Lantern

(I didnt bother listing everything I had or wore since it's all not important. Just the evasion you get from these)

Strategy:

Not that Demonic Tiphia hits SAM particularly hard @75 or that she has the greatest evasion but it helps to not get hit because you DONT want to heal yourself too much. You need that TP.

Save at least 200TP before you engage the NM and open with a Fragmentation or Fusion SC via Sekkenokai. From there get your Drain Samba up and hack away. As much as you can use Box Step. I say this because more often than not when the NM uses a spell it will be Cure V "BUT" if it has something to Erase it will usually try to Erase that first in this case Drain Daze from your samba or the Step effect.

Pay attention to your Meditate and Sekkenokai timers. When Meditate is ready, use whatever TP you have to Kasha or Gekko (Gekko being the one I reccomend) and then Meditate.

Once you get the NM to 60% or lower its time to bust out a Light SC with your 2hr. If it has been using Pollen before it will stop once it goes under 40% (at least in my case it never did it again) and it will begin to soam Cure V. Now, because of your Tachi: Gekko during that Light SC, she'll be silenced. Get TP as fast as you can, Drain Samba should be enough to keep you alive so even if you drop into yellow dont Curing Waltz. As soon as the silence wears off she'll begin casting Cure V on herself. Gekko immediately to resilence. In this way she's practically shut down for the rest of the fight. Around 20% or lower she'll probably final sting you. Being Elvaan and having alot of HP it only dropped me to about 400HP. My first fight here when I duo'd as RDM/NIN with a THF/NIN, the THF got one shot by it from full HP. Dunno if she had shadows up or not.

Anyway I'm now 0/2 on this chick so yeah. GL everyone.

~Aes

Edit: Something you probably already know but I thought was worth adding anyway: the damage output of Final Sting is dependent on the mobs remaining HP.

I'm now 0/3 on this. She decided to sting me a little earlier this time and hit me for 1423, slightly more than my max HP. Not nice >,>

Soloed this today as a 75 BST/NIN (video is on youtube). Tried using Courier Carrie and after 10-15 minutes I got Tiphia down to 40% about five times. Kept going back up to 90%. Decided Courier Carrie just wasn't doing enough damage, so I used leave and called Lifedrinker Lars.

Once I called him, the bee was dead in less than 5 minutes, but it was a pain. I got slept, but it never seems to go off on my jug pets.

Luckily Cure V kept getting interrupted despite axes being slow. Feral Howl won't do a thing and strangely the bee kept casting while being "frozen" in the air.

One thing to make this easier is to use a food/gear that lets you resist sleep. Maybe low delay axes and a HQ mandragora would help. You can rarely silence anything as BST/WHM.

I think it may be safe to say it's impossible to solo this thing using the surrounding local pets or Courier Carrie. I even have Beast Affinity capped.

Camped this NM twice, 2/2. First time I was RDM/DRK and teamed up with a nearby SMN. It spammed Pollen and Cure5 nonstop, and Erase itself constantly. The SMN asked his LS friend to come. Final Sting killed me (11xx damage)and the sting dropped, we sold it and split the gil.

Second run I went as RDM/BLU this time, and my plan is simply stay alive until she Final Stings me. I didn't bother Bio and Poison her this time, not really trying to kill her anyways, just Cocoon/Phalanx/Stoneskin/Ice Spikes/Refresh/Haste. My LS THF friend Riceball came over to help, by this time she is at around 50%. Silence wore off and she fired off her first Cure5, I hit my Silence macro, and she readies Final Sting... 42 damage with half-destroyed stoneskin on. I live! Tiphia Sting dropped!

The fight only took about.. 5 minutes. Which really disappointed me, I was expected her to put up another fun fight.

p.s. Used dagger for Energy Drain.

I just tried to solo this thing as a 75 rdm/drk, was going good for a while got him to about 20-30% and then everything went to hell. I had been camping it for 2 hours killing everything before it popped. His once 588 pollens suddenly began doing 1600 and eventually got up to 1900.

I began attacking for less and he was knocking out my stoneskin much faster and silence was not sticking as long. In the middle, a wespe decided to join in on the fun making it ever more complicated. I saw it and kept pulling back the NM further and further away but he just kept coming towards us and eventually linked.

Soon enough I was hitting too weak and he was hitting too fast and hard and spamming pollen so often that I had to give up on rdm.

I used my warp scroll and went to whitegate, switched to 75thf/nin as fast as I could and hurried back...only to find an alliance of people killing him.

I hate notorious monsters -.-
75 Sams can solo!

Decided to camp this baby last night just for fun, my DRG friend and I had spoken about duoing Demonic Tiphia before but I was bored and figured I could handle the thing myself. Went /nin since I read of people's NPCs running out of MP during the fight.

Get there, start killing PHs with my NPC (got some nice parrying skillups lol) and after a good hour or so, my NPC chickens out and leaves me alone =( Of course, not 30 min later the NM pops, staring me in the eye awaiting it's fate...

Had full TP and Medi was up, so I open the fight with a good 500+ dmg Penta (this thing is pretty resistant) and switch to my Hagun to pop a meditate and follow with some weaponskill-age. I saw it casting on itself so I got a Gekko off to silence it, that shut it up for a good minute or so, enough to pop a Kasha for paralyze.

We exchange blows and I wait till both status effects wear off by studying the log. I had popped a cheap Mithkabob for fun while waiting, my Meditate timer also came back up during this time. Also noticed her HP to be just under the half mark.

Tiphia is no longer paralyzed, then moments later....Tiphia is no longer silenced. She pops a cure IV for about 500 and I immidiately feed her a Yuki. Meditate, 2hr Gekko and then Kasha for light. She's flying obviously doing nothing since I messed her up pretty bad lol. She was almost dead by this point (about a quarter left) and my Meditate had left me with about 160TP. I just fight it to wait till one of the important status effects wear off (silence being key) and she just Final Stings me for a last Hoorah.

Fight lasted about four minutes, good luck and as other said, with imagination and skill it can be done! >:D No drop btw but was worth it heh.

Well I like to camp this thing as MNK with my wife or a friend of mine usually, and things go well most the time, except today. It honestly doesn't make sense... well here's what happened:

I wake up and go camp this girl for about an hour and she pops, and I kill her with my wife. So I get lunch and etc while she goes back to sleep and come back about an hour to two hours later and start killing PHs.
...About 9+ hours later.. no show.. anyone else had this issue before? This is the first for me... pretty dang sure I know I'm in the right place to, always killed her and camped her before, just absolutely no show for 9+ hours at all.... strange...

EASILY soloed by 75THF. I heard about this dude and how hard he is so i decide to check it out cause sting is going for 300k on my server and considering how everything else is rmt'd i decided it was worth it. I had alot of trouble getting it to pop, took about 3hrs of killing the Wespe PH. So finally he pops. Getting it down to 50% is cake, but now the hard part, if your a THF you should listen to this. Sleep bolts are the key. Doesnt mean it will take you long time to kill using bolts only. It's simple, you just hit it and shoot bolt right after and when you have tp just use WS to interrupt it's cure V and shoot bolt right after cause it will most likely try to pollen itself. all in all it can be soloed if you have good marksmanship skill and overall skill. No drop but ill try this again.

BTW anyone know this things window time? I'm here right now and i just cant get it to spawn :/
haha

I heard from several different sources that the only way to get the Tiphia Sting to drop from this NM is if it uses Final Sting on you. Without that, I'm quite sure you won't get the drop.
wow

I have killed this thing 3 times now in a matter of 7 hours and no drop. and the whole pollen thing makes me shake my head.... but there is light i dont give up so easily padawan i will get item and do nothing with it ><
Pollen
# Dec 13 2006 at 9:28 AM Rating: Decent
Pollen is a serious issue with any bees but this guy has had more people call for help or just quit fighting because of it.

My lvl 75 Drk friend was fighting this thing and just decided to leave the area after 2 hours of trying to kill it. He would get it down to like 25% then pollen would fill it up like it was never hit.

I've had this problem with all the bees when I was lvln Bst here. I figured they would be quick fights because of final sting but the bees here use pollen about 20X more then final sting. Usually I ended up letting my pet die then charming the bee I was fighting.
:/

Me (61 DRG) and my 75 WHM friend tried to kill this last night, we ended up calling help because the pollen was getting omfg strong and slowly I began to go from hitting 80-100 per hit to 0s. We got a passing 75 thf and ninja to help, got it down to about 40% til it spammed pollen for about 1.5-5.7k (3k my ***), and we called a 70+ sam and 60+ mnk to help. Few hours later same thing, sam fell asleep still swinging away at NM. Finally we had a BRD come and the THF left to switch jobs to WAR and came back. Bout 15 mins after that it uses final sting on nin, and 1 shotted him from full HP. 5 hours, no drop and a new hate for bees.

I know a friend who goes to CN to make his money. Farms the Wespes for bee chips and honey, kills the nearby lizzies for skin and tails, crawlers for silk, the occasional water elementals for clusters, all while checking in on Demonic Tiphia. Not many people that camp it on my server, so assuming he gets the claim and the sting drops, he makes some good money in a night of farming.

Trying for some royal jelly, I go down to the spot, kill a couple bees, and he shows up. As 75 THF/SAM, he simply cannot hit me 99% of the time. The 1% comes from Sleepga II, about 20 misses, and the waking hit, but that's not the story...I switched early to dargon gear for the Subtle blow+ seeing a 1500 or so Pollen, making me realize, "this may take awile"...I had no idea...At about 50% Hp, he starts spamming Cure V, then a pollen: 3200. Start all over, since he's 100% now, Viper Bite for poison, reapeatedly hitting it with Acid Bolts, which makes it use Erase, thinking, It'll run out of mp...right...about 60% this time, the cure V's start again, and another pollen:2800. A ranger passes by, and I enlist her help and we get it down to about 40% before the onslaught of cures begin followd up by a Pollen: 3500+! 100% hp...all of a sudden, I get an auto-translated {STOP!}, and she hits it with a sleep bolt. Then she offers a trade: 4 bolt quivers. I disenguage, and we start a barrage of sleep bolts, slowly as you can imagine killing this thing, at about 20%, it somehow wakes for Final Sting, dead. 1 hr, 20 min... (insert explative here)
*Sigh*

Well this is my second try on getting my Sting.
My first attempt was with RDM/NIN.
I thought I was going to need shadows cause the NM was going to hit me hard...
I never used one shadow... at all.... Phalanx and Stoneskin were a wall...
I ED him and got him as far as 45% until it gave up and Final Sting himself.
All I got was Royal Jelly... So the Final Sting Thoery is a no go...

On my second attempt (today) I was all alone(hurray) and it poped after a while. This time I had RDM/DRK... and it was so much better than /NIN... Aspir when I need MP, stun his spells, and had SE & LR. I didn't do that much damage but Bio II and Poison II helped me a lot... Absorb MND is your best friends VS this NM.. His Cure V only cure about 500HP and his Pollen were about 1k. I got him down to 9% before he did pollen. Around 28% a friend joined me... and he just rampage him once and the NM decided to do Final Sting. Alas, the Sting did not drop...

I'm still camping this NM until I get his sting!

Good luck
Not that bad
# Aug 16 2006 at 8:12 PM Rating: Decent

Soloed today as NIN/WAR (taru) full crit/hp/subtle blow merits and 23% haste gear U+U. The key is keeping him paralysed as much as possible and interrupt his casting. Fight lasted maybe 15mins tops. The lowest I ever got him to was 23% then he managed to get a cure or two off and back up to 42%. Beat him down again to 32% and he decided the game was up. Final Sting for 179dmg. Tiphia Sting obtained. Good luck. This mob is NIN soloable.

Very fun battle with this NM:

I fought it several months ago with 5 people ranging from around 55-75, all melee (MNKx2, SAM, WAR, and NIN). We didn't anticipate fighting it, but we sat around and watched it slowly wear out 2 75 jobs as they didn't stand a chance outdamaging the incredible curative powers of this guy. Eventually they wiped to it, and we took over.

The plan was have everyone gain 300% TP, and unleash on it immediately which would hopefully kill it pretty much right off. Well it didnt and soon enough it was back to full HP with us pounding on it the old fashion way. It was a long fight, but generally easy going since I had my NPC healing me and it couldn't get off any spells amongst all the melee chaos pounding it down. Our light SC was the key, it did enough damage to over power pollen and between a MNK and SAM we could whip SC's out quickly. All around a very fun fight, as all of us could go damage crazy and not worry about enmity. No drop... though I did get a sense of contemplation from killing the head bee - the Wespes in this area are the bane of my existence, those bastards...

Don't attempt it unless you have some serious {fire} {power} to back you up, or a solid escape method when you realize you can't win this particular war of attrition, hahah.

First off... this NM is no joke lol... its name is 100% accurate

-he loves to do pollen (2800 was most i saw during our fight)
-chances of soloing him are low... maybe possible... but low due to pollen
-75rdm/nin can hold him all day... but prolly can solo (i got him donw to about 50% before he started spamming pollen)
-silence is good stuff too. (stops cureV and sleepga)

now the the story... me and my buddy Jeseca were duo'ing bst in crawlers nest when we saw the name on my widescan... didnt know much about it but figured it dropped the tiphia from the name. didnt know much about it... so me and Jes... bein the true BST's we are... decide we need to try to duo it (i saw it was LV 60 on allakhazam.. thats all i checked) we threw some IT dragonflies at it (familiar) before we noticed he likes sleepga cureV and pollen.... obviously we werent successful. So i tell Jeseca to try to hold the NM by kiting or whatnot til i can warp out, and change to 75rdm/nin

unfortunately Jes dies as i am zoning into crawlers nest =( and claim goes to a taru warrior with his NPC whm type. warrior cant do dmg quick enough and his NPC runs out of MP so he eventually dies... and i claim as rdm.

Jeseca HPs and changes to 73sam/thf and high tails it back to CN. while i am soloing im having no trouble staying alive at all (his accuracy wasnt so good) i fight NM down to about 50% before he spams pollen and gets up to about 85%

during the course of my soloing period... another RDM (terrabranford) is nice enough to help me out as he sees im not able to do dmg quick enough. so we start beatin away at this thing and get him down to about 35-40% until he pollens. Once Jeseca finally shows up... we setup a SATA system and start makin {Savage Blade} » {Tachi: Kasha} = {Light} which does a pretty good number on him

even with us 3 fighting him, he still takes a while cuz of his pollen... a couple of times even gettin back to 100%... but we finally got him down to about 25% before he Final Stings the other RDM for about 350 dmg. (whole fight prolly lasted about 30 mins)

{Tiphia Sting} {Found It!}

thx to Terra for ur help ^^;

i fought this thing for over 20minutes solo, and couldn't get it past 50%

fight could have gone on forever, thanks to spirit taker, (and i'm not sure i could have won) but luckily a friendly thf ran by with his npc (and his TH2) and offered to help.

wheeling---shark bite owned this bee.

got my sting and gave the thf 100k for actually being one of the few ffxi players who are not greedy selfish bastards.

Snagged this and tried to solo it on Lightsday XD (74THF/NIN btw)

*Pollen for about 5000HP when it's above 50%HP
*Nonstop Cure4 when it's below 50%HP
*Final Sting (got me for around 550) @ are 10%HP
*Likes to Erase itself.
*Sleepaga2 only a prob if its below 50% really cuz Cure4 is a spell (can be casted while you sleep) while Pollen requires TP.

Kept getting it to 47%HP but it would usually cast two Pollens and be on its way to full HP (73% with more cures to come).
Anyways 75BLM showed up as i got it to 40% for the 20th time and we made quick work of it.

Prolly coulda solo'd it, but i was dumb and fought this on a whim (but also on Lightsday).

Ok we killed every wespe spawned in the whole area. it spawned in say less then 1 hour HOLY CRAP that thing doesnt do pollen for just 3800 try 4500 did that 2 times in a row. im a 73mnk/thf36 and it wiffed almost every swing on me and the 70sam/35thf. we both traded tanking due to us dealing different damage we both 2 houred both of us did it to almost dead then it pollend for 4500 2 times in a row and was back to full. we finally ended up alliancing with a blm 62 and a drg 75. so we killed it after a few minutes with the new add ins. so final party was blm 62, drg 75, drg 60, mnk 61, mnk 72, and sam 70 its not the tanking part that is so hard but the killing part. well worth the killing time tho got it for the 60 drg it was a very exicteing fight thats for sure.

Yep, I'm 1/1 on this Hnm did it with 75drk/nin 64mnk/war and 75brd/whm (me) so far from my experience on this nm pops 3hrs if you kill place holders in time, made drk/nin main tank since he can aspir drain and utesumi, as brd/whm keep doing doing song debuff for the NM to use up all his MP on erase :D and made mnk/war do Hundered fist when NM reach 30%hp (That when NM spams Cure5) at the end NM ran out of mp and it used final sting. The fight was extremly fun took us like 20mins to beat since I made NM use erase a lot lolol, the main key into beating this NM is to make it use final sting. :D

the respawn is 2hr, lotto pop on the wespe at the spawn point. iv popped it and killed it at only minutes past 2hr from tod before, although it is lotto pop and max no maximum time between spawns that iv seen, iv camped for 13 hours with no pop before at which point i logged.

i used to solo this when the mob was first added in, and its drop was worth 3m. now its worth a little over 1m, and its usually camped by gil sellers.
drop rate without TH is pretty crappy, 1/4 if not worse, drop rate with th2 is less then 50%.

Hmm, it's not as hard as you think. I've soloed this 4 times as RDM/NIN. Well technically 3 cause I had a friend help at like 20% and it final stung me like right after he arrived. Just a few pointers for any RDM/NINs that wanna fight it. Have decent melee setup, don't worry about stunning it with flatblade.. Doean't work. Spirits within isthe best WS to use if you have a martial anelace. Keep it silenced and pull with silence. Ice spikes, haste enblizzard or fire, and just keep beating on it. You can Die/BioII and poisonIi it if you want, but it's a wasye of MP IMO, it'll just erase it.. If youaren't hitting it to well, gravity it, other then that, slow and blind should be kewl. Don't wory about pollen, and DONOT fight on lights day... Pollen for 3k+ lol>.> That's when I had my friend come down. Make sure you have Stoneskin up and phalanx (of course) When it's at around 30% cause of Final sting. Keep your HP above 900 atleast.. Anywho, goodluck! Usually fights last me 8-15minutes. Unless on lightsday which was like.. 30mins ish maby.
