Right in the area everyone's saying it is. Had just came across this post and decided to see if it was up (since I was on my way to help someone kill Dark Spark). Found it just loafing around so I sent carby after it and proceeded to pummel with Meteorites. I'd fought it once before not knowing it actually dropped something, thinking maybe it was a quest NM someone had died to. In any case 1/2 on cape and my 37 Bard can grow into it ^^

Ereshkigal was already up while omw to Castle Zvahl, south of the hill @ F-8 where the single Etemmu usually patrols.

Like a dummy, I didn't think to check around the hill for the regular Etemmu, so really can't help determine whether Ereshkigal pops on its own, or morphs from an Etemmu placeholder.

So, I was browsing the FFXI Wiki and stumbled upon this cape, never heard of it before so I did a little research on it. I was just getting ready to log off for the night and thought, what the heck, easy enough for a WHM to get to and from Xarcabard, so I switched to /RNG (lvl 1 :D) and 'ported out there. And hot damn if this NM wasn't up! It was sitting around (G-8), just south of the large white "mound" that appears when you look on the map, and directly in front of the steps where a demon pawn spawns. I didn't want to fight it as /RNG since I was so gimped, and no one else was around so I tossed on my warp cudgel and switced to /THF (I debated going /NIN since I didn't know what level this NM was, but decided the increased chance at drop rate was more important than survivablity -- what's reraise III for, right?) So I ported back up there and she was just floating around all pretty-like. Buffed up, rested, pulled. It really wasn't a tough fight; kept stoneskin up the whole time, I didn't have any problems landing Silence and Slow with capped and merited 239 enfeeble skill (although between Silences, I did see her cast Rasp, Aeorga II, Stonega II, Ice Spikes, and Freeze), and it only took me about 10 minutes to bring down. She hardly did any damage to me with stoneskin up the whole time. Got the cape, revival tree root, and a square of cotton cloth. It was ICE weather, windsday, around 14:00 or so, Waning Gibbous (79%), although I have no idea how long she had been hanging around before I found her. Good luck to everyone else hunting her!

i kille dhim not to long ago on my server, chekcing him every now and then well camping biast, i ran thought him as my 67thf,b4 i realized it was him when i noticed some odd letters. i enguage at like 80% hp, with a SA, his casts ice spikes instantly, and first hit, im para'ed but it was weak, hardly proced, he hardly ate my shadows unless he did a lvl1 aoe spell, never casted above a T2 spell, my friend came in for the last 2 hits and i was still at about 60% hp, mostly due to spike dmg. got drop, was 78% wanning moon, day b4 watersday, didnt check weather tho.

Ran into it when farming ice clusters. Decided to solo it as BLM75/WHM37. Since it's a ghost it's unsleepable and without gravity i took a big gamble there. Luckily it has bad accuracy. Ffxiclopedia lists this thing to have about 3000 hp, but that's very wrong. i counted my spells and i needed about 7000-7500 of damage to kill it. I went in with blink and stoneskin, it got me down to about 60% health when it died. I needed Manafont for his last 10-15%.

It popped in single ice weather near the left border of G8. First Quarter moon, 48%, iceday.

Drop: Cotton cloth >.>

Just killed him on Alexander, border of earth and watersday, not sure which he died on. 33% waxing crescent. Saw him on the way back form a random coffer hunting adventure. He dropped a revival tree root along with the above drops. I have screenshot if it's needed.

Got claim and drop, was 60% Waxing Crecent moon double dark weather. I dont remember the day offhand, and it spawned just north of that plateau thing.
Got lucky.

I was running up to do Dark Spark for my RDM(I was playing as 73 PLD at the time), had a 66 PLD friend with me and a 51 WHM who also needed DS. We saw this NM as we were heading to Zvahl. Took it down easy, no trouble at all. I tanked, its hits did like 10-15 damage and I happened to have my arcana earring along so it was intimidated alot, especially when holy circle was stacked. We got drop. Cape sells for 1 mil on Alexander. We each made 333k off that, was pretty nice.

I was farming Dark Elementals with a fellow LS member on Odin . We ran in to her on our way to Boreal Tiger Location . We didnt even check her , we knew she was a NM by the freaky deaky name .
We almost shat our selves when she dropped the Lucent Cape !! 1M split 2 ways for a cool 500k each . Took a week tho to sell on the AH.
She popped at G-8 i think . the POS practicly directly west of Tele Vzahl Gate near the Weapons .
we were WHM65/BLM (me) RDM71/BLM(her)
We never came close to death . but our MP both were well under 50% after the fight . But we mana burned a little bit with our Fusion SC Fire3/Holy MBs . we killed it pretty qwik too .
How to spawn
# May 29 2006 at 12:40 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, well, i am not 100% sure on this, but i am pretty damn sure.

For this guy to spawn, it must be Dark weather. Day does not matter. I also believe that it DOES NOT take a Place holder death for it to pop. After a total of 41 hours camping with 1 pop (i ran by and saw him there, then started camping).

After that only Etummes would pop.I'm looking at a 21-24 hour spawn on this guy, and hes like Noble Mold, Rose Garden, Ect. Dont kill the Etumme's and he has a chance to spawn after 21hours of last death. Killing before then will result in a timer restarted.

This is not fully proven to be 100% sure but i think its close. after my exp. in camping, and reading other peoples posts, it seems everyone comes across the NM, and when they kill PHs and camp it he doesnt pop.

Guess for the next 21-24 hours i'll /follow the "PH" and see what happens

If you read the posts below you they all list conditions upon finding the NM. If it had to be dark weather to pop I highly doubt it would stay up after the weater effects diminished. I still say it's a 21-24 hour timed pop, and that killing Etemmus doesn't matter because she pops in a very wide radius.

ok so i am not one to be beaten so easily in 20 min i was all set to try him again. the first time i wore my AF gear and didn't use food or had meds. the second time i decided it was time to tear him a new one! berzerk aggressor warcry mightystrikes rampage icarus wing rampage he was at 50% and i was at 100%. fight lasted about 3 min i used 4 hi potions through out. i kept my hp above 1k incase he casted an AM spell. he tried freeze but a few criticals messed him up :)
in the end he cursed me and then died (damn it!)
and didn't even drop (damn it! -.-) then the worst part came... i realized i'd used every type of warp i had (damn it!) crudel scroll and staff all used alrdy! (damn it!) overall an epic fight that i will not soon forget. if you go after him below 70 bring meds

Final Results: Septh fails ><!
ouch ><

just fought him on odin server as 66 War and it was a close fight MS wasn't ready so i had to warp at the end but i got him to about 30%. was fun as hell.
popped
# May 27 2006 at 8:55 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, so running by to go get a coffer, and I see him up, and I'm like, ok, just another stupid ghost, no pop, that sucks. Then I'm like, wait, maybe thats then NM, so i run back and check it. "Impossible to Gauge" Its Dark Weather, Day before Firesday(forgot to check at start of fight) and Wanning Crescent 76%(i think)

So i sleep it, dispel its spikes, put on Ballad + Mambo. I'm a 62Brd/Whm. He hit me for about 20-50 dmg a hit, crits were around 100s. About the same a EPs do ^^

Hope the spawn tim ehelps, gona check back in 21 hours and camp and see, maybe get a thf this time ><

No drop :( but made 17exp with a 58 war, who was joined when he was at about 20% hp. he also has Additional effect darkness damage which did 3-20 dmg per hit to me.

I'd recomend that if your trying to kill and are not 70ish +, Have a way to refresh/regen hp. Since hes undead you cant drain at all so for thf it'd be hard, and with out dispel Ice Spikes Paralaze sucks ><

I just killed this NM for the second time just running through Xarca, and got the drop! I've read through previous posts and it leads me to believe it is a timed pop, either 8-12 or 21-24 hours. It has popped during different days, weathers, and moon phases. Unfortunately I'm going to be out of town tomorrow so I cannot test this theory =(

Some mythology stuff about Ereshkigal...

Taken from: http://www.killerpumpkins.com/disciples/disciples-004Erishkigal.html

Meaning: "Lady of the Great Place". Goddess of death and the Underworld.

Symbol: An Egyptian hieroglyph. Used in expressions meaning the underworld or the kingdom of death.

Ranking: As King Sirus' coveted left hand, Ereshkigal holds the second highest position in the "Inner Circle." Chosen by Sirus for her exceptional abilities to communicate with the dead, this dark temptress' powers are imperative to the successful link to complete the code to communicate with the dark lords.

Ereshkigal's mother was an enchantress who lived deep in the mystical black woods, where she perfected her craft of foretelling the future. There she led a discreet life in communion with dark spirits. One evening, a King of the western lands passed through on his way from victory, and became entranced by her radiance and beauty. Thereafter, under cover of darkness, the King would secretly flee the Queen and his castle to lay in the arms of his mysterious lover.

One day while practicing her craft she envisioned the future. She saw a beautiful woman of great wisdom and power. It was her child, the ******* daughter of the king. Distress overwhelmed her as she foresaw the king's betrayal and desperate attempt to destroy her and his unwanted baby. Reeling in horror, she placed a powerful spell on her unborn baby to protect her in the event of her own death, and named the child Ereshkigal, meaning "Lady of the Great Place".

When news of the unborn baby reached the king, he acted quickly to hide his adultery from the queen. The king commandeered his most loyal knight to murder the enchantress and bury her in a secluded cemetery deep into the black woods. The enchantress knew the knight was coming, and she hid in the dark mist of the early morning. Still, the piercing coldness of his blade found her heart, killing her and sending convulsions through the soul of her unborn. The spell was activated, and Ereshkigal continued to take nourishment from the now lifeless body of her mother. The knight buried the spiritless body of the enchantress as instructed in a relatively unknown cemetery frequented only by passing gypsies.

As Ereshkigal continued to feed off the decaying corpse of her dead mother, she often heard wails of agony from grieving families over the loss of loved ones. Like most babies hearing their mother's voice from the womb, this became a source of affection and security. She felt most content and loved during these grief-stricken times.

Eight more months would pass. One unusually stormy night, the topsoil from her shallow grave washed away, exposing the decaying corpse of the mother. Birds and beasts of the night tore away her rotting flesh, leaving Ereshkigal partly exposed in her vessel of stench and decay before it came to rest on the muddy banks of the cemetery. Gasping her first breaths of air, her screams filled the night like a sorrowful beacon for survival. Soon Ereshkigal was found by a band of gypsy travelers. They heralded her birth as a miracle and a sign from their maker. The gypsies raised her as one of their own.

This marks the birth of Ereshkigal.

he literally creeped up behind me today and didn't aggro while i was beating up an ice elemental @SE I-8.. it was 26-36% waning cresent (not sure when exactly, didn't check time until i read that no one knows specics), it was also day time..

the damage that my fungarfamiliar and i were doing suggests that this NM is in low-to-mid 50s range (i farm hickory lumber there all the time and the gigas are 45-48. i do a bit more damage to them than when i was fighting this.)

action shot here

he wasn't too tough, in fact, easier than the elementals because he was squishy =3

I don't know the spawn info on this guy, but I want to find out. I was in Xarcabard yesterday on my way to Fei Yin for ZM5, when I checked widescan for Shadow Dragon and I saw this guy up. I asked LS what Ereshkigal was and one of our part-time Bards about wet himself. Me, a 71 DRG, and a 60-ish WHM took this out without losing much HP. I could have solo'd it easy. We didn't get the drop though, which sucks. I don't know the map position, but he was by the lake, fairly close and to the West of the Teleport Crystal.
Useful Info

Does anyone actually know anything useful about this NM or nothing but a bunch of guess work??

If you do know something that would be helpful please post it. This cape would be very good for BRDs, but nearly impossible to get without correct, helpful information.

This guy really really doesn't seem to take a PH's death to spawn, i was here to hours killing the only ghost in the area, and the ghost can spawn near the demon pawns and near the slope to the Ul. Range, anyone know if its just a pop, and not a lottery type thing?

I was in Xarcabard hunting dark elementals and, as I was on my way back to the Outpost to leave the zone, I saw this on my widescan. Pulled out a Carrie and let her solo it with complete ease while I rested and aggroed a lost soul which I had to then kill on my own. Got the Lucent Cape too, checked AH and saw only 4 had ever sold. Jacked price up 200k over the last AH sale and it moved in an hour. I even got a tell from the buyer thanking me. I sold it for 800k. Next time I'm putting it up for 1 million.

Um...
Actually, I think he was just trying to say that it's really nasty and greedy to be that concerned about how much gil you're going to make off a cape that's really not all -that- fantastic to begin with. Sure I think this cape would be great to have for my BRD, but there's no way in hell I'm going to drop a million, or even any more than 200k on it. Because it's not worth it. Not when I can go camp the thing myself.
And please tell me where starving children factor in... O.o
