Soloed this dude last night SAM/DNC 80/40, GK at 218, Perle Gear

He initially got me down to about 120HP with two self destructs, but I kept alive with Waltzes, Drain Samba II and a triggered 2 hour.

Not the easy fight I thought it would be.

0/1 on Soboro. Booooooo

Did this guy w/ 2 diff pts.

First pt was PLD, RDM x2, WHM (me), BLM, BLU, THF and SAM. We went 3/5 on wins and 2/3 on drops. I kept BLM hasted and the self destructs were far enough apart we had no issue keeping him stunned. The first one we lost was kind of a trial run guess you could say. And we lost the last one b/c the PLD and RDM were gonna split instead of stay for more pops....but wtf ever. For all the fights, we had to sleep midway thru the fight and recover. So needless to say, we struggled. And w/out ES, sleep/repose was hard to stick.

Went back today w/ ls pt, PLD, RDMx2, WHM, DRK and THF (I was dboxing me and RDM) and we had NO issues. PLD did an awesome job tanking, kept DRK hasted for stuns. MUCH easier fight this time. 2/2 on fights and drops!

Thanks to Leojr, Arbello, Bizl and Cluh for helping me get my soboro!

Considering I went with 12 people and wiped once I was impressed :)

Key is not to give to much TP, Barfire, Stun, and heal like crazy :D.

had a group of 9 ppl, whm, sam, sam, nin, nin, blu, blu, rdm, drk. fought it 4 times. 3 GK's no wipes. recommend not bringing noob members cuz this NM is NOT very hard outside of self destruct. its def and eva are no better than the nitro's and other than the fact its destruct does hella more dmg it can all be avoided. ppl say you need at least 12, thats not true, if you have at least 8 good ppl its np, the only threat is self destruct and no matter if you have 2 of 18, that ability will damn near kill everyone regaurdless. take plenty of stunner, have a stun order for 2 and have one person free stun self destruct and thats it.
i hate this NM

I think SE should rename this NM to "Satan's ****************

This damn thing is a right pain in the ***. I have wasted two days (about 14 hours?) on trying to kill this thing...

We had 12 people, 2 x BLM, 2 x BLU, a PLD, a few DD's and a WHM and RDM, think one of the DD's was a DRK.

We wiped... over and over and over and over.

We killed it 3 times out of the 20+ attempts, got 2 Soboro's.

I am pissed off at this damn NM, and I still don't have a Soboro... GRRR.

This was not that bad at all, even with a semi organized pick up pt formed by /shouting. At the start we had an alliance of 12. pld, rdm, blm, blux2, dnc, thf, sam, nin, brd, and forgot what the others were, dd mainly. Also had full moon for most of the fights which didn't hurt at all to have. I was really kinda worried to do this, not really worried. Just had a feeling that getting this GK was gonna be a pain, kinda like trying for an O. Hat. But when you get people that all know how to do their jobs fights go pretty easy. Just had whm cure and keep barfira up, blu's head butt to stun when they can, blm stun when they can and rdm enfeeble what was possible to keep enfeebled on this NM that wouldn't get resisted. Went for like 8/14 fights. Seemed really that luck has a big deal to do with this since during one fight he wouldn't self-destruct and no GK drop, but then another fight he would self-destruct like three times and then he would drop it. Sad to say that by the time it was done I was on my way to try to get CoP 4-2 done I had no time to play with my new toy /sigh... But one great thing with this pt was that between fights when waiting for re spawn of the ???. We would fight the Nitroclusters to get tp and to clear tunnel. Everybody that didn't have a Clustered Tar was able to get one very easily, about every other bomb would drop em. And everyone almost left with a tar when we were done so not only did most people leave with a nice new GK but a item to sell to make a little money or give to a friend who needs this wonderful weapon. So thank you Kayion and Jaelin for organizing this as best you could and great job to everyone who participated in it! But even by the time we were done and had lost a few people due to work, school, or just too damn late and needed to sleep, everyone did a fine job and was a quite enjoyable experience! I just want to say thank you so much people for the well balanced pt or alliance of people that know what they are doing and willing to stick it out to make sure they try their hardest to make sure everyone who came got a Soboro.

So to of you who is looking for a little advice in what is the best strategy. Just get a group of experienced players and have a balanced pt or alliance of jobs that will get the fight done. And best of luck to all who are about to attempt this! So just because you cannot find the recommended jobs as supposedly required or highly recommended and such. Don't give up if you get a good size group, go for it. You might just get a surprise in how players can make things work!

Just did this today for my Linkshell's third try at this. First try a month ago we wiped twice, quit. Second try we killed it 3 times, no THF, no drops. This time we killed it 5 times, 4 drops. The strategies listed below work.

Things to know:
1.) Paladin tanks this, no exceptions.
2.) Multiple healers recommended, Blackmages make good backups because their nukes land for bad damage.
3.) It is sleepable. We slept it at 60%HP and 30%HP to rest MP and such. Make sure people disengage.
4.) Have melees sub Ninja. Circle of Flames is blinkable. If you can, have them run away when their shadows are down so they can recast. Gets them out of CoF ranges & they aren't giving the mob TP with their shadows down.
5.) Keep barfira up.
6.) Stun can get resisted, and so can sleep. If a self destruct goes off, however, and your tank dies, all is not lost. Sleep the Unstable Cluster and raise him. Have your mages constantly sleep it to allow time for the PLD to recover.
7.) Dispel Refueling.
8.) Drop rate is horrid without a THF. Best bring one.

A video will be up soon. Until then, happy hunting.

(PS - Went in with PLD,BLM,RDM,BRD45,BLU,DRK,WAR,WHM,WHM,THF).

http://youtube.com/watch?v=s_-Tx6BNmwA

Video created by Healer and his Naruto musique.

Edit: Posted video. As you can see, it 'sploded quite a few times, killing people and the PLD. Just remember it isn't over when the paladin dies. Get him up, and keep it slept. Flash it if it wakes up so the mages can get sleep off without getting interupted. This was actually our worst run, so I guess it can show you how badly things can go and how well they can turn out. :)

PS - Healer is really a taru who likes to .dat. :\

It seems they updated this NM since I first posted my experience. He didn't resist stuns when we first fought him way back when. I didn't see anyone attempt this fight with just a party full of SMNs. I'd like to see a video of that because I think it would be an incredibly cool fight.

It is also possible to run out of self-destruct range. While the tank might not do this (never saw him try), the melee certainly can run and avoid death.

Ok, some points to mention:

1, this NM has constant tripple attack, if a self-distruct goes off, 1 bomb of the 3 will explode, then it has constant double attack so on and so fourth.
2, the pop item is tradable, have the PLD pop the NM with a blm for stun as soon as it's popped.
3, once stunned run out of the cave and have pld voke ASAP, fight it a little further down from the cave mouth so as to avoid any aggro from any repops inside the cave with: mages >>>>> DD > NM positions DD/PLD always in front of NM not behind, so as not to draw the curing mages into Circle of Flames/Self-Destruct range.
4, the cluster also has constant blaze spikes that can't be dispelled, so make sure your RDM isin't wasting valuable mp and time trying to.
5, have RDM and WHM him sub blm for ES sleep make a /p Sleep <t> <call> Disengage macro to avoid wasting ES, as the RDM i found myself kiting this thing while trying to sleep it, i suggest gravity then bind beforehand.

I'm by no means an expert, but following these few points will surely help.

Went at this guy with 12 people, wasn't too bad once we got the hang of it.

The cave where he pops leads out into a tunnel, which is where we fought. Make sure that all the melee are within view of the mages, but far enough away that the mages don't get hit with Circle of Flames and/or Self-Destruct. We had a huge issue with not being able to cure melees that we were unable to see...the mages ran forward to make the needed Cures and promptly got blown up.

We only had two BLMs, and in order to keep the Stuns coming, I kept them Hasted. We had two BLUs (Head Butt) and a few people with stunning WS's, but it seemed like the majority of the "saves" came from our BLMs. Not for lack of trying of course...Unstable Cluster just seems to resist a lot.

Ended up going 3/4, with at least 1 death each time.

Just a note; there is no surefire way to stun the cluster. The first self destruct on my Tar it resisted 2 shield bashes, a weapon bash, shoulder tackle, flat blade, and the spell Stun. Second time it resisted stun, shield bash and shoulder tackle. First one for 760, second one for 1130.

At least it dropped.

My LS went with 8.
1st Pty = Pld, Pld, Rdm, Whm, Smn, and Thf/Brd (me)
2nd Pty = Sam, Blm

Pld's was main tank. Sam was main DD, and he ran away each time it Self-Destruct.
Smn casted Phalanx on the pty.
We was draining MP fast, so at 50%, we slept the NM, and rested till it wakes up.
NM resist Sleep fast.
Once it wakes up, we fight it to 1%, then I came in to kill it with TP saved up earlier.
With Thf/Brd, I helped the party with Treasure Hunter and Ballad 1.

Drop was 2/3, with me killing last hit.

Ever heard of Noctoshield? Dumbass.

And it was believed for a long time that thief had to get the last hit for TH2 to have any effect on a drop. SE did announce not too terribly long ago that the thief does not need to have the last hit, but old habits die hard.

best strat for this mob is 3/4 stunners 1 RDM was fine one pld 2x melee DD and 1/2 RNG DD
rng pull pld does his thing rdm main heal and the blms that are not next on the stun roter help out healing
get to about 50% ES sleep II heal mp and go again
we beat this np as 8 <and the pld was a taru!>
we were 2/17.. so everyone logged
we came back the next day with almost the same set as before but with a WHM THF and DRK aswell ^^ it was full moon 100% and we went 7/8 drops
and now i have mine after 15 hours i have it ^_^

first of all, i think it's funny that the pic for this mob shows it being melee'd inside the cave....don't do that. pull it back far enough so you don't aggro the cluster respawns.

did this, believe it or not, with a pickup party, half JP half NA.

DRK/NIN MNK/NIN WHM RDM BLM PLD/WAR

our strategy was to let the NM self-destruct on the paladin. It's easy for the melees to run away from him when he readies the move, unless you have been gravitied.

But i am wondering if maybe the GKT drops more when all 3 bombs are kept alive til the end. We only got one drop (mine), and it was the only time we beat him without any self-destructs. (ie, all 3 bombs were alive)

most important things:

-melee sub nin. turn around and recast shadows everytime he uses his AoE.
-keep hate on PLD at all times, even if it means slowing down your damage a little.
-don't use DoT. you're going to have to sleep him, and even that can be difficult since his resist rate is high.
-melees run away from him when he readies self-destruct. just don't run into the cave.

I have been on 4 total runs with this NM and here are 4 things I feel about this FPNM....

--- I hate his drop rate, I was 1/8 with my pops.
--- I hate his AoE, it might be stronger now with an update because the last 2 runs he spamed it under 20%
--- I hate his Self-Destruct, combind with AoE spam this a very tough fight even if sleep sticks @ wipe
--- I love my Soboro, need I say more?
during the fight
# Dec 30 2006 at 11:36 PM Rating: Decent
i fought this for the first time today with probably 12 ppl or so. after reading a few post on here i was pretty encouraged from what seemed to be a decent drop ratio.
so we gathered a few ls members and random ppl from shouts in whitegate that might be interested in joining... by the time it was all said and done, we were going to need a total of 5 gk's. but it was much easier said than done, even with the committment to stay til we all got one from every alliance member.

the nm itself isnt really that difficult and goes down fairly quick. but like anything else in PM zones, you have to have competent players that can do their jobs. if not, your set up is irrelevant.

during the fight:

as far as set ups are concerned, i think its common knowledge and will also that say pld is the tank for this fight. ninja will most likely fail at this because the NM has three small bomb type (like shown on pic above). and unlike regular 3 bomb clusters where they all attack in unison, each of the three bombs from this nm will attack individually. so as people have stated, its a constant triple attack. plus, there are other aoe's that can strip between 2-3 shadows. so in otherwords, ninja die very quickly on this if they are stuck tanking it. the best thing is to have a pld, keep him alive at all costs. if hp or most importantly mp gets low, you should have a good call macro to disengage/sleep to recover. there is no sense in trying to rush though this fight for a few reasons: 1. better safe than sorry 2. NM goes down fairly quick. and 3. you'll still have to wait 15 min anyway to repop the next one if you are doing a few runs.

on the other note, all melee should have /nin. since it will spam aoe attacks, your shadows can help absorb the dmg. and that is the only real use for shadows in this fight. if you dont have shadows up and it uses an aoe like 'circle of flames' you can take 200+ dmg. not to mention this mob has a permanent blaze spikes effect which cant be dispelled that will do between 10-15 per hit. so as you can see, mages will have their hands full healing everyone. the last thing they need is a non /nin melee taking powerful aoe moves.

THE REAL KEY TO WINNING THIS BATTLE

when the mob reaches around 50%, he will attempt to self-destruct constantly. so the skill of your stunners is what is gonna make your or break you. have a good stun order, and make sure your blm are paying attention to this. the last thing you want to see is all your blm using stun at the same time >.< sometimes the NM will do back to back self-destructs if not more. keep stun ready and available. self-destruct should really be the only move you should stun. some of the other aoe's are too fast to even bother with.

here is the dilemma we were having on my run. we had 3 blm with a stun order, 2 sam, and war (me) spamming stun weapon skills. even with all that we still had the nm getting off the occasional self-destruct. so everytime that happened of course ppl kept *****!ng at each other about whose fault it was for not stunning that move. so we came to the conclusion that weapon skill stuns were messing up blm stuns. if the mob is stunned by a weapon skill and a blm casts stun, then the second stun will have no effect. not to mention weapon skill stuns arent as effective as blm stuns and most of the time they get resisted anyway. so it might be better to just let melee do their highest dmg weapon skill and let the mages focus on stunning.

this was my experience from fighting this nm....

p.s. if anyone wondered how we did, we went 1/6 on drops. the last fight we wiped though and disbanded shortly after. the drop ratio was not nearly what i had hoped it would be. we didnt have a thf though, so maybe that had alot to do with it.

It was my first run today, i was so excited because i finally got past 3-5 and was even on 4-3 now, so i was more than able to access B01. Unbelievebly, we got 4/4 drops in a row from the start! I was 3rd to go and when i saw it pop i nearly had a heart attack. >.< Really glad i got this today, been waiting a long time. Our party setup was as follows Watersday through Iceday if i recall.

BLM, NIN, NIN, RDM, SAM (me), BLM, DRK, BLU, PLD, THF.

With 10 people we got this done. Sadly on the 5th fight, only a Cluster Core. If you have only 1 PLD, KEEP IT ALIVE! If not, its highly recommended to sleep the NM and raise him. We had to do this at the beginning cause of a mistake and another time at the end on around 3 fights. NIN die very quickly on this NM, especially without Barfira. A BRD wouldn't be a bad idea either for Fire Coral.
Tough dude.

I have fought this mob five times. The sword dropped twice. (Got mine! yes!!!)

He is no joke. We went in as an alliance of 9 to find an alliance of 8 almost wiped fighting him. They managed to take him down, so we joined up in our efforts. Eventually had one more join, so we had a full alliance.

We had PLD, NIN, 2xSAM, 4xWHM, RNG, 2xBLU, RDM, SMN, 5xBLM. He will take out melee with Self Destruct very easily, and will spam it. Tachi: Hobaku + Stun + Head Butt need to be used efficiently. He likes to start using SD at around 50%, and will use it more frequently below that.

Fortunately, I know the greatest PLD on Gilgamesh, Magicwalrus, who took 7000+ damage during the fight without dropping. Of course, we had incredible mage support, but he held hate and was amazing.

You can PM me with questions.

Here's a pic after all the fights were done of me and my new sword. Some of the people had left already.

I just killed the NM with 7 PPL

PLD NIN THF WAR BLM BLM RDM

Both BLM's and the PLD had to 2 hour during this.

IMO you should bring 2 NIN's and a PLD or 2 PLD's and a NIN; Have at least 3 tanks
WE really could have used extra healing to, the BLM's helped the RDM heal but they soon ran out of mana with stunning and all. Really should bring 3 stunners who kno how to stun. The NM doesn't start self-destruct till 50%

The NIN and PLD shared hate but PLD was getting a Major Beat down from Tripple ATK

Both the THF and WAR died at the end but we got the drop.

Good set up IMO would be WHM RDM BLM BLM BLM NIN NIN PLD THF

Note: The Cluster did explode twice and ended up only ATK'in single instead of Tripple ATK. The GKT still droped
Note: We killed the Nitro-Clusters around the ??? 4 times, The tar droped Twice

Went with some friends to finally, after many months of trying to schedule a trip, go get some Great Katanas for LS members. Parties consisted of:

Tank PT: PLD x 2, Whm x 2, Rdm, Mnk/Nin (me)
Support PT: Rdm, Blm, Thf/Nin

First Run: Had a second BLM for the first try. Unfortunately she stood a bit too close and caught Circle of Flames. Didn't move back out of range....caught another a few minutes later and died. Self Destruct shortly thereafter with our only Stun timer down meant a predictable result. Got him down to about 15% though and learned a bit.

Runs 2-4: Both PLD built TP while waiting for ??? to respawn. BLM took first Stun, PLDs rotated backup Stun duty with Flat Blade & Shield Bash while timer cleared. Mnk & Thf do their thing, RDM nuke, Haste, Dispel (he's hard to Dispel) and debuff. BLM nukes a bit here and there between TP moves. WHMs rest in shifts to keep PLD afloat.

The last three runs went very well. No Self Destructs on #2 made it thru. #3 and #4 the sucker got down to one bomb but we kept him there. All 3 runs the PLD were never in danger due to sharing hate & two WHM. Treasure Hunter did it's thing and he dropped three times.

You've heard all the tips before, but I'll remind everyone that:
- Close up melee need /Nin to avoid Circle of Flames damage. Recast Utsusemi every time he uses it too as it takes 2-3 Shadows from /NIN.
- THF for Treasure Hunter is a must.
- Constant triple attack. PLD tanks with good healers (Ariel Armor rotation a plus) or NIN x 2 with BRD (March), SMN (Stoneskin), and full time Haste.
- Take your time, do not miss stunning Self Destruct if at all possible.

VERY fun fight, and very happy to finally have my very own Soboro.

Just a warning to all samurai, i am 0/30 on this NM as of now. i am currently in a run and the greed of people is so amazing. we have whm's and brd's who claim to be helping yet win the lots over 75SAM's when they havent even unlocked the job yet.

I've be beaten 30 times in a lot, i recently lotted a 5, yes a god damn 5. thats not counting all the times ive wiped trying to fight it. this item is not worth it. dont try unless you go with RL friends. its actually funny now when i see my lots, i wait to see a 900+ and get amazed by 200's and laugh like crazy.

ill post screenshots of all my lots later if i can find them. do not try for this item you'll just be dissapointed in the end.

EDIT: Now 1/35 on this NM, was 3rd last in the alliance to get it, if you guys see this thx, glad the hell is over -.-

Would just like to add my take to this. Was succesful with 12 people.

WHM, x2 RDM, x2 BLM, x2 PLD, SAM, x2 THF, x2 MNK

Our first pull was very sloppy and the mages were too close to the melee. They were beaten down very fast with AoE and we promptly wiped. We then went on to win the next 3 times and recieved 2 Soboros.

My little advice for this is control. After our first wipe, we toned down everything and let me and the other PLD astablish hate between us. The mages need to be fully aware of the triple attack so getting beat down fast doesn't come as a surprise.

We were doing well on our last fight and we let 2 self-destructs go. With Barfira up and established hate, it was workable. So if you opt to let him go to 1 bomb, it may work as long as you have sufficient healing to care of the HP issues.

Good luck to you all. I'm so excited about this new GKT ^^

A while ago my LS and I decided to give this NM a try. We knew a few things in advanced. It self-destructs up to 3 times. And it has almost a constant triple attack. We decided to use several tanks both PLD and NIN. althought the PLD did most of the tanking. Also you will need atleast 3-4 stunners to be safe. (i.e BLM DRK) Samurais can be stunners but their WSs are best left to use to damage and not to stun. Also we did several runs on this mob and never got a drop. we went 0/8 on him. Finally a friend of ours logged on that happend to be a THF soon as he was in the zone and in the group we went 6/6. So it is reccomended that you have a THF since in my experience you will not ever get drop unless by some miracle. Also you will need several healers. (WHM,RDM,SMN) This way the group and tanks never get too close to dying. It has one AoE attack that has a pretty big range. I dont remember the name but its different from self-destruct, my only suggestion for this is keep barfira up. All together i think when we did the run there was about 12-15 people there. i wouldnt reccomend less than 10 for this mob. Hes pretty hard but doable. And the GKT he drops is awesome.

Site B is a lvl 50 cap. Site A is a 40 cap.

Sorry, I cannot help you on party layout or anything like that because I have not done this, but simply researching about it.

I imagine from the posts so far, a solid PT of 6 with everyone doing their jobs and not gimped equips can pretty easily do this. Just an assumption though.
