I have had this quest a few days but was going to save it till my NPC was a little higher and myself (needed to do G2 for myself too). One evening I couldn't really decide what to do during the hour I had to play but after some thinking I changed to 55 BLU/RDM to sneak around Miseroux Coust and Lufaise. My NPC was 52.
On the way to the swirling vortex I saw this Giant Footprint. I had 2 deaths to delevel (that's how I count my exp as BLU nowadays) and I have a feeling, hmm, eh well (remember this is my personal view as I know if I said anything like it in LS all hell would break loose), that anything a RDM can do a BLU can do better (3 to 5 levels before depending on mob (at least if you go by the levels ffxi-atlas and other sites recommend)), so I gave it a try. He poped behind my back so I didn't see him till my NPC was quite badly hurt but once I hit him with a few spells he forgot the NPC existed. He got me down to a few hundred hp but was about as hard as the anticans I used to level my NPC on in Quicksand Caves.
Inspired by my victory I went and did a NM called Orna (for a quest) too before bedtime.
Easy as 75BLM/37RDM

Killed this as a 75BLM/RDM, just cast Stoneskin/Phalanx/Ice Spikes before popping him. He managed to punch through Stoneskin a couple times, but he misses a lot with capped evasion ( cap only 200 for BLM, so... ) and it was very easy to recast. Once I got Stoneskin back up, I'd just Drain back whatever HP I had lost. Ice Spikes seemed to paralyze him frequently.

Took probably 2:30 of solid staff-beating and my NPC ( 51 Fierce Attacker with Great Katana ) attacking to drop it, could have killed him faster but that's no fun. Used Full Swing whenever I had TP, and my NPC used Tachi: Jinpu very frequently.

Easy and fun, longest part is the walk. Especially if you forget to talk to Luto again after talking to Monberaux the first time. >_>;

Since I couldn't find any level information when I got this quest, I figured I might as well post what I got out of it.

Just killed this guy a few minutes ago. Fought as 62DRG/31WHM, fairly easy fight. Got 300% TP off the bats and weapons before spawning and had Protect II/Stoneskin on ((he took Stoneskin off in 1 hit, though ._.)) Though my HP dipped into orange HP 3 times ((a few Dia+Healing Breath III's made that nothing to worry over)) My NPC was also Lv51 ((and was set as fierce attacker at the time)).

For solo, I'd say the better soloing jobs could easily kill this around 60ish; other jobs probably just a little higher. ((Or just set your NPC to Soothing Healer if you have that unlocked))

That's odd I wonder if this monsters level varies I did this at same level as you(hume though) npc was same level.

All I did was put up protect II and stoneskin, no tp start the fight takes him 3 hits to knock stoneskin off and managed to kill him before my hp even went low enough for Healing Breath

thanx for the info =) somepage doesnt list him and mystertour doesnt mention anything about lvl. Im about to try this as 59 rdm, with 51 fierce attacker. ^^

ouch, the mf is a pain. with protect 3 up, his average hit was 59 with crits around 90. He did special attack impact roar for 177. His aoe special attack did 49 to me and 77 to my npc. I was a ****** and in trying to mb off me and my npcs liquification sc, I lost uts and stoneskin. Even with slow, paralyze, and blind he kept interrupting my spells. no xp gained though, so not sure what lvl he is. I would say he is harder then the yag nm for npc limit 1 and spanky the demon for "mirror images"

NPC genkai 2, so I am told, by touching the "Giant Footprint" in qufim near the vortex with the quest activated.
