Congratulations to Eden for popping Absolute Virtue. Congratulations ALSO to the multiple HNM linkshells that helped kill AV. This was NOT a sole effort, yet a rare coming together of great players united under a common goal.

this guy seems to be alot like Apocolyptic Beast in Dynamis, where you can kill other NMs in the area to take out some of his attacks(that's how he was supposedly beaten). probably just a recycled concept on SE's part

Yeah, your theory is completely rediculous. The NMs are not up at the same time as AV is.

AV only uses his 2Hs once while he is claimed and engaged. This has been proven on Ragnarok when a HNMLS held him for over 3 days looking for a way to beat him. They ended up wiping when they tried Aspiring all of his MP away and he ended up defaulting to spamming Meteor and Comet that only cost 1 MP. AV regains his 2Hs when he goes unclaimed.

The first way that he was beaten was through a pathing glitch in which an aliance of BLMs could just nuke him while being out of melee range. AV has only been lagitamately killed once by several HNMLSs working together.

Thanks to SE making Imposible to gague mobs gain resistance faster and to a greater extent, I doubt that AV will be killed again for a long time.

On Cait Sith AV was brought down by the top three linkshell, Millenium(NA), Yume(JP), and Duckn(JP) To my knowledge this is the first server to beat him without using the wall trick. And to all you little Paladins out there, AV was straight tanked by three Paladins.

Do any of you people have sea? Have any of you ever fought a jailer? Let alone AV?
AV If / when he spawns spawns agro, he DOES attack.
And No killing the jailers didn't stop him from using his 2hrs go read up some more about Milenium's kill, they stated it still used em after they killed the jailers, wow are people really this Naieve?
LMFAO~

heh... I think its funny that you "LOL" and "LMFAO" others comments about AV and that you state that AV pops aggro and attacks. My question to you is; Have YOU ever even fought AV? Or are you reiterating someone elses story and claiming it as your own experience? AV does not pop aggro and attack.I repeat: Absolute Virtue is non aggressive. I walked around him for close to an hour while we were setting up to fight him. We held him for 45min to an hour with a level 1 bst(used to stop from despawning) that was only killed by AV when he attempted to charm. One thing to note though; The other Om'aern's in the area will aggro when AV is attacked. So before you come on here making fun of others comment for being incorrect, perhaps you should stop trying to live vicariously through the work and experience of others and bring some factual, useful information. kthxbye

I think a level 75job can no longer fight Ronny bunnies... As its not fair and has no chance to hit you, if you fight anything that is level 40 or under you are a cheater because its not fair to the mob... {/sarcasm}

Personally, If I am getting the crap beat outta me, I'll fight tooth and nail to win. I am sorry for those of you who consider this cheating. Anyone who has ever gotten into a fight knows that there is no cheating and anything is allowed.

You can run up there and swing your bee spatha at it but Ill stay back next to my level 75 blm pal and feed him encouragement and high ethers.
AV strategy
# Jun 24 2006 at 10:36 AM Rating: Decent
Apparently the reason that the shells were able to take out AV was because they found a new strategy to kill him.
Once he is popped he apparently pops all the jailors that you killed to pop him. After you kill those jailors, the abilities and 2hrs that they have he isn't able to use anymore. The thing is he summons them in there pop locations so you have to go find them and hold AV while you do.
I hope that helps other people take him.
AV strategy
# Jul 03 2006 at 3:40 PM Rating: Decent
In retrospect, that really should have been blindingly obvious. That is very similar to how you kill the mega bosses of the new dynamis areas. The only difference is they are all pre-spawned.

I know it's not saying much looking back at it, but we should have suspected a "trick" to it.

RE: Just curios
# Jun 22 2006 at 11:42 AM Rating: Default
I don't think anybody has been able to defeat AV since they got rid of the wall exploit by adding the Draw In ability. This also prevents people from kiting AV around.

Only report I've heard of a group defeating this foe without the exploit is when it used Mijin Gakure, and lost 99,999HP.

Now, I know this is a little off the wall, and a lot of people will probably flame me for this, but hear me out.

Think of everything you have to do in order to make it to this being. You have to defeat Jailers, who have imprisoned the different virtues. Those are fairly evil creatures, jailing things like love so nobody can have it.

But once Absolute Virtue comes on the scene, nothing really bad happens. You freed the creature by defeating all the Jailers.

Yet, for such a powerful creature, why doesn't it attack?

Now, for the controversial part.

What if he's not supposed to be fought? A friend of mine gave this theory to me, and I thought it made a little bit of sense. Maybe AV is a good creature, something to be kept alive, instead of destroyed.

I don't have any kind of proof about this, and I do not know how long after AV spawns until it de-spawns. However, it wouldn't surprise me if there was some reason he exists other than drop a rod that gives RR3.

He doesn't do anything until someone attacks him. And then he totally destroys whoever attacks. Maybe there's another purpose for him. Anybody ever tried trading a Virtue weapon to him? Like, all the virtues at the same time? There is a quest early on in the game where you must light 7 candles for 7 sins, and then 7 monsters, each named for a deadly sin, appear. Perhaps AV is not the end. Maybe he's used to spawn other things.

Anyway, let the ridicule begin.
AV...

This theory makes sense, seeing how AV drops only a rod for RR3 and SINS seeing how Absolute Virtue is(quote ffxiclopedia.org):

"Absolute Virtue is a concept found in ancient Greek philosophy and Christianity. To the Greeks, it was a principle which exists beyond material forms, an Idea located in the world of Ideas (as envisioned by Plato). Absolute Virtue was constant across different types of people, but relative virtue, how that virtue is displayed in that social class or that gender varies depending on the status or gender of the person. Socrates said it was possible for humans to attain absolute virtue and thus understand Truth. To Medieval Christianity, Absolute Virtue was defined as God. God was absolute virtue. Accordingly, to the Greeks, Absolute Virtue would contain the virtues of Wisdom (Prudence), Courage (Fortitude), Temperance, and Justice, and to the Medieval Christians, Absolute Virtue would contain the virtues of Prudence, Fortitude, Temperance, Justice, Faith, Hope, and Charity/Love.

While the 7 Jailers drop weapons and torques bearing the name of their virtue, Absolute Virtue only drops items bearing the name of seven sins. This would lead to the implication that Absolute Virtue may not be as virtuous as its name implies."

Notice the end... maybe it's not so much that Absolute Virtue is bad but the act of killing it is sinful, hence the dropping of sins =/ Just a thought

Never heard of that, which quest is it/where do you get it? Can you please post a link to it?

edit: ah nevermind, I origionally thought you meant the seven skull NMs, but when you posted "early on in the game" and "quest" I thought it was some wierd capped quest or something. Also thought the skulls were lottery spawn off normal mobs, not force spawn.

This is probably, the coolest post I have ever read on the forums. Double rate up if I could.

This thought is really cool, even though, yes, it does drop "uber leet" items...

But the whole idea of something peaceful not meant to be attacked (merely there for "prettiness" and story components) is very interesting to me...

It doesn't drop anything but quest items and Raphael's Rod.

It just seems odd to me that the most powerful critter in Vana'diel won't aggro, and drops a Reraise III rod. With all the intricate details in this game, it just seems like we're missing something. Like something just isn't quite fitting to the situation. And with AV's banter about suffering and pain, it makes me wonder if maybe there's something you're supposed to do besides kill it.

I could be, and probably am, totally wrong. But still, curiosity makes me wonder...

All those so called "quest items" are traded in for good items. In fact, both Raphael's Rod and Ninurta's sash are from the "quest." All you do is trade in the sin and you get the item. These items include 2 rings, ninurta's sash, Raphael's Rod, a sam GKT, Aureole, and something else I can't remember. ~.~

He can use every 2 hour in the game, however, having a person with a jailer weapon (i.e. Hope Staff) with virtue stones equipped engaged (not necessarily fighting) will lock that 2 hour. I.E. SMN with Hope Staff + Virtue Stones equipped and engaged will lock his astral flow ability.

This has been proven false, please stop spreading rumors. AV has been beaten 3 times total and those were using an exploit that glitched it out. Nobody is certain how SE intended people to fight this, but many LSes have tried the Jailor Weapons approach and have concluded that it is simply not true.
RE: Strat
# May 28 2006 at 9:35 PM Rating: Default
Wrong again. If someone engages with the weapon against the job type of the mob, I.E. Whm Aern, with a jailor weapon, it cancels out the two hour. Or else AV would pop another 47k Benediction everytime it was low.

wrong again...again. Yes, some groups have fought AV with those jailer weapons and virtue stones equipped, and AV happened to not use some 2HRs. This does not prove, however, that AV didnt use those 2HRs BECAUSE of those weapons used.

No one knows for sure, simply because AV has only been beaten a handful of times. Its not like their log read:

Absolute Virtue readies Astral Flow.
Absolute Vitue's Astral Flow was interrupted because Johndoe is using a Hope Staff.

Also, with regard to using Benediction over and over again for 47k... that might not necessarily be true. Yes, AV can use the same 2HR multiple times during the fight, which would mean he can use Benediction many times, but its very possible that AV might not use it when his HP gets low after a while. Maybe its all a matter of AI.

If no one attacks him right away after he poped, you can take over an hour to get the right angle and time to shoot the perfect picture. He is simply doing nothing than floating right there, thinking of how about he is to own everyone in the zone as soon as someone attacks.
He comes in peace.

# May 24 2006 at 8:31 PM Rating: Good
Well this come's from knowledge from random source's around the forums and other sites but I hear the jailer's weapons block AV from attacking and at that using all of any abilities he has on him and judgeing from watching the video of the defeat of AV congrats btw his attacks doing ooohhh about 800 dmg a hit and having the abilitie to do any jobs 2 hr and having no cool down on it...along with meteor and his new tractor dead or alive abilitie makes him even more of a hastle...but say this "jailer lock" works which I have no proof of or seen this or have ever seen anyone come with the idea for major purpose's but if it does work maybe that opens the door to AV's defeat without some wall (not saying the wall idea was bad, thought it was a stroke of genious myself but people are open to opinions anyway)

sure is a nice looking mob. If he is the most powerful monster in the game then they gave him the look for it. Maybe SE put this guy in the game to keep us modest. no matter how far we come they may have wanted something to be above us. But then again i know alot of ppl who thought that about vrtra. as for killing him i'm not sure if as a whole we are capable of killing him yet (without the now gone wall trick).if he is the most powerful monster in the game would we not need the most powerful equipment to kill him? what is the percent of players who have that? just a thought

The question of whether the wall trick is legal or not has been rendered moot by the fact that Absolute Virtue will now DRAW IN any characters he can't reach, according to recent reports.

This means that any BLMs that try using the Wall of Justice will find themselves stuck on top of the wall eating a nice juicy Meteor.

It was nice while it lasted, but this recent change just proves that Sea is a gigantic waste of time and ToAU is far better in every respect.

Oh yeah, Sea is definitely a big waste. I mean, Limbus that comes with Sea is just worthless with all it's crappy items, honestly AF+1 and Brutal Earring and other stuff like that, useless. Don't forget the drops from Ultima and Omega are **** too. Not to mention those rings for beating CoP, and the Elemental Gorgets and Obis. All total crap. Your 100% correct.

Glad to hear that they fixed AV.

I really don't get how some people can claim it's not cheating/exploiting. The wall trick was clearly exploiting the AI (or lack thereof) of AV, who understandable did not have any AI for chasing down people in a completely seperate area of the zone.

If it made sense within the context of the game, I might have bought it, but come on... AV, the most powerful monster known in the game, first of all, he's too stupid to do anything but convulse against a wall while people he "can't reach" nuke him straight to hell for over an hour, and more importantly, AV can -fly-. The idea of this tactic as being anything more than an oversight by the programmers was laughable.

But anyway, I still give kudos to whoever thought of the tactic (but not to Apathy or any of the other copycats).
