Fought a EP Elemental on Qufim Island and it drop a Crystal. Its the first time i've ever seen it and i've been playing off and on since the US release

Don't be an *******. It depends on where it is you are and where you level. I have seen maybe 3 of them in 2 years of playing and all of them where in Tahrongi Canyon.
I got a tele-dem and was heading to bastok and i saw an lightning elemental while riding a chocobo, i checked it and it was easy prey, and since i needed it for clothcraft i thought it was worth the risk and killed it using 20% of my mp and hp as a lvl blm25/whm10 and droped a beastmen seal and a lightning cluster WITHOUT A SIGNET! I was estatic.

just thought i would point out that in jugnar forest i regularly am solo farmin these with a 32pld/16thf HOWEVER while i win everytime they do technically almost kill me.Also the only reason i win is red lotus blad at 200 tp does about 150-200 damage to it while my normal attack hits for about 7-20 depending on if my added elemental damage kicks in for the hit.i have only died once from farming these and it was because a walking tree spawned and agged me b4 shock wore off and i could rest.

if you want to get a few weird looks from people in qufim go charm the kraken and take one of these down (kraken finishes with about 30% HP left from my experience using a DC kraken at level 40)

wellll when you charm the kraken make sure to find a nice pt of lvl 20-22 and use leave on the kraken ^_^ you will get a nice show.
Its things like that that get you in trouble with the GMs. So its fun to watch and you get to have a party with the GMs. ^^

As Anemos said, Crystals are possible drops with signet on, seeing as Elementals are also mobs like any other mob in the game, but, I have had an instance or two when I was bored and camping rams or something in La Theine Plateau where I have killed an elemental and recieved no clusters. So, it does happen very rarely that one will not drop a cluster.

Once... and i stress once i was in a part with 2 other people and a Thuder elemental i beleive in Konchstat Highlands did in fact drop 5 clusters i was like Woot because at that time i was synthing something involving these
Drop rate consists of 1-3 per party member... I've been in full parties and seen like 5 drop as well. Solo, I usually only get 1-2... 3 if I'm lucky.

A hostile mob (aka: when its not Too Weak it normally will agro) will attack you if resting because your character rates to THEM as Too Weak. Hostile mobs have a rating system (this is when they decide you look too big to attack anymore) and when you kneel, you drop to the bottom of that rating system and once again become a viable target. At level 60 I've had orcs in West Ronfare decide I look tasty ><

Yes. If you kill an Elemental you will always get at least 1 cluster, sometimes 2, and very rarely 3.
why are "crystals" listed as drops ?
they dont drop crystals like regular mobs but clusters.

In the Highlands back when I delvled to 29 as THF, I rested up and saw one of these. Not thinking to /check, as they were too weak, I Sneak Attacked it and the battle began. I noticed it was a lot harder than the others, and it didn't miss so much. As I finished, I found a cluster and a crystal. Not to mention 12 exp...

Elementals always drop 1-3 clusters. They will however also drop single crystals if the elemental is EP or higher to you and you have signet on, just like any other mob.
These also spawn in Oldton Movalpolos. The one my party and I killed was DC at lvl 53. I'd put them at appx lvl 50 I guess. Solo'd it for a good part of the fight, and it didn't use anything higher than thundaga. As elemntals aren't "job-specific" like other mobs, I don't know if you can gauge their level by the spells they cast.
The Thunder Ele's can cast Shock Spikes and Enthunder now too. So RDM's are even more helpful for farming these now than they were before.

Thunder elementals in qufim are definately my favourite.
If you're a mage or a hi-breed job you can take these at around 43, if you're pure melee I'd seriously consider leaving these be for a long while..

=D Generally only BLM and RDM can solo elementals.
WHM probably can if there is a high enough level difference, but you're probably better suited for Dark Elementals. I wouldn't try this alone, or w/ o rearaise on, though.

I've soloed Easy Prey elementals as Dark Knight on many occasions.

Like Caia said the Thunder Elemental in Qufim is around a lvl 45 to solo. I wasn't aware of this when I picked on one as a lvl 41 blm. I lived with 40hp and 20mp left, but at least I lived and won.

Does anyone have some locations where these Thunder Elementals tend to spawn in the highlands?
IE Air Elementals spawn by the ravines in La Thiene.

yeah, there and basicly anywhere thats about 6" from the dunes (on your map). I know I've seen them up by where the right and left area (the right being where the craig is) meet.

The Elementals in Qufim are not soloable by a level 40 Warrior (even subbed Red Mage for heals), though it was reasonably close. I got it down to about 1/5 of its HP and thought I had better instant warp out.
I suspect you can start to solo them around level 44-46, but that is an edjucated guess.

Been farming these things in Jugner for awhile now. Thunder in Jugner happens almost ALL THE TIME; heck, at least twice every Vana'diel day, and they appear everywhere. They're hard to see, but bring a ranger and use Windescan. You'll virtually see at least four on the scan at a time.
I've used StoneII a lot on them and it does some pretty good damage, but then I switched it up a bit. During my little experiments, I found that Blizzard is a cost-effective spell that does pretty good damage without the huge MP drain. Three Blizzards and some wacks with En-* will do the trick nicely. I'm a 38 RDM, so I'm pretty sure a BLM will have some greater success.
And the ones in Jugner surprise me with their drops. Almost 50% of the time, I'll get multiple clusters (sometimes three). On my server, they're 2,000 each. Looking at the time it takes to kill them (about 1.5 minutes), That's a lot of clusters (no, I do not have THF subbed). And since Jugner is nearly always empty (except for Tiger farmers and Ballista players), this is a virtual GOLD MINE for Level 32 - 40 mage classes.

killed one with a my Rdm20/Blm10 nothing i recomend though!! ..since i died when the hp-degrading spell it casted never wore off =/

Actually, they do appear there, but as Yagudo's Elemental.
Yagudos in Tahrongi Canyon do not have Thunder Elemental pets. They only have wind, earth, and fire.

Yeah, but the "Yagudo Element"'s do not drop clusters. I got that confused early on.

Elementals aggro magic, of course ... but they also aggro kneeling. That may be why, in a previous post, they "singled out mages" - in a PT, mages are usually the only ones who kneel, since the melees are healed up with spells and usually don't rest (and thus don't lose TP).
Note, as with all enemies, that if you don't attack it yourself, or help/heal whoever it's targetting, it won't come after you next (well, unless it aggros you independently of course). So if one person casts a spell and the elemental kills them (or they zone), the rest of the PT won't need to zone.

I have sat right by an elemental, preparing to fight it in Konschtat, and it never aggroed. Maybe it was because it was too weak.
yes, "too weak"'s will not aggro normally, wether it be magic sound sight or low hp... however, they will always aggro a resting charecter. (as long as its a hostile mob, i doubt you have to worry about saplings ^^) i'm guessing they see it as an opportunity to strike?

There's only one thing about elemental aggro:
They aggro magic, nothing else. So they -should- only aggro you if you cast a spell. But you can't do that while resting. So there's no way to get aggroed by a TW elemental
Unless maybe you start casting and then /heal mid-cast... but I don't know if that works or not. Regardless, just resting and going afk won't draw an elemental's attention.

Elementals WILL aggro when you rest.
No, elementals are aggressive. The thing is that they only *detect* by magic. Resting however seems to be detectable by any method because of or along with its too weak attraction quality. Pretty much just saying that it won't aggro if it's too weak when you cast a magic spell (just like a too weak or or goblin won't aggro you to sight if you're too big for it), but it will detect and aggro you if you're resting.

Thunder Clusters. (Break them apart for 12 thunder crystals) or you can sell them on the AH for the same price as a stack, but with a lower reserve, as there's only one of them.

hehe I didn't know that, but since some guys in my temporary PT told me not to cure them because a Water Ele. was near then they moved away from it (they also said it could kill us in one blow), I assumed that all elementals are ALWAYS aggro.
SO, when I and my friends spotted a Lightning Ele. in Konschtat, I screamed and told my friends to run da hell out of that area. Stupid me LOL.

does anyone know where these guys spawn in pashhow marshlands? I'm looking to get some stacks of crystals from these guys, but i'm running around like crazy trying to find them when a thunderstorm comes. any help please

there found j-7 or j-8 thats where i find them most of the time u can find them in qufim easyer or in highlands for easyer killing
