Is it just me or do these Goobbues remind you of the Nu in Chrono Trigger?

QuickEdit; The Nu's the ones on the bottom:

Best place for cuttings

The best place for cuttings is in Sanctuary, steady 9 gobbues pop in relatively restricted area (well, depending on how you look at it; in fact it's 3 areas but all by the entrance to the Tree). Level 60+ advised, and with thf60+/nin (or if competition from the gilsellers, thf/war for the voke), easy to take down, but drops averaged about 1 in 4 kills. Average just a bit more than 2 stacks of moss for 1 stack of cuttings. In my career, I probably took 60-70 stacks of cuttings out of there. And I grew every one of them, never sold a single one.

Unlike the goobbues in R'berry and Pashow, those in the Sanctuary do not drop treant bulbs or dahlias.

Just killed my first goobbue last night as a 31 RDM/10 THF. I was expecting it to be harder, especially since I know EP is just getting more and more difficult now.

I used Enthunder on my Centurion's Sword and the Bio'd him. Tossed out a Paralyze and a Slow, both stuck, and then used Burning Blade. Dead goobbue and one moss. :D

Then about an hour later I was skilling up with a friend in Rolanberry and got {Flat Blade}, plus tree cuttings. Good night, all in all.

ALL drops - and I mean ALL - are day related.

In this mob's case: Earthsday

(TH1 and TH2 help, but still no garantee for a drop)

That means: better drop rate on earthsday. bad on windsday.

btw: crawlers (also based on earth) dropped worst on lightningsday and lightsday. Maybe it's the same for all earth-based mobs. Have to try that out.

And whoever thinks of telling me that my post is bull***t, screw you.

I've been farming earth-based mobs (crawlers for silk) for months and I always got the same drop rates mentioned on top.

One other thing: this rule doesn't count for elementals. Those will at least one cluster.

p.s.: I got the best drop rates on the first 4 game days. ==> learn the order of the days and have fun makin' money. =)

It also help if you are NOT 37 lvls above the mob. Dont waste your time.. be as close to mob as possible to farm and stil get drop. EG...
I am 37War and farm Farmer Goobbue in Rolanberry. Around 60% drop rate. I can take 5-6 before healing so I can make 100k and hour if the durn things popped constantly.. (You know this is not the case) But, plan your fight with highest Goobbue poss if you want Cuttings.

Completely wrong.

A Lv10 WAR killing crawlers in saruta will get silk at the same rate as a Lv75 WAR killing the same crawlers in the same zone at the same time.

I was of the opinion that the higher you are, the better your chances of the mob dropping the rare item.

I wouldn't normally believe this except I see it a fair bit running aruond West Ronafaure Jumping orcs for gags and they tend to drop the Orcish Axe used in a mission 1-1 for sandy. When i first started out it took alot more Orc deaths in order to score this axe.

Could be wrong, however the most likely reason that it took longer to get An Orcish axe at a lower lvl was because it took you quite a bit longer to kill them at lower lvls. This is not to say that you were not comparing the percentage of drops per low and high lvl's.

In other words... at lvl 40 you can chain 20 mobs and most likely get a drop this would take a few mins at most. Conversley if you killed 20 mobs with a lvl 8 you would get the drop but it would take you 20 mins to kill that many mobs.

As you can see, the mob level is 22-25. This means that to anyone level 22-25, this will con as Even Match. Still, at level 30ish, some will con as Easy Prey, so the mob level is right. The information given is the level of the mob, not the level you can first start to take them.

If your weapon skill isn't high or capped for that level you will get Easy Prey but has high defense. I was getting that a lot with my WHM Club skill.

I haven't fought anything in the Passhow Marshlands yet. My WHM is level 30, but I need new armor. After I do that I can probably go there and start making some gil from these Goobbues.

I soloed one of these as a 25MNK/10THF, and with focus/dodge I had no problem whatsoever. Ended up with about 1/2-2/3's HP at the end of the battle, I didn't get a drop, but I'll be going back once I finish getting THF to 15 and MNK to 30.

When i first started to farm these i got a Cutting on my 7 kill, i then proceded to go 0/33 throughout all my other farming attempts on these.
So after killing 40 goobbues i only have 1 Tree Cutting to show for it.
Keep in mind this is with a thf sub of 15. Perhaps Goobbues just hate me.

I'd hazard a guess and say that if you got lvl 30 armor/RSE and a centurion's sword. and made sure all your spells are up to date you wouldn't have as large a problem killing them.

ether ur REALLY REALLY LUCKY!!! or severly overexagerating (sry i cant spell) or u just fought 2 gobbies and one of those times u got a tree cutting because i get one cutting about every 30 to 40 gobbies as a 40 war/ 20 thf. I mean if u killed 48 gobbies and got 24 cuttings ur one lucky lucky man because thats worth about 270k total on my server and i can kill 48 gobbies in about 2 hours.

right now, im a lv 33 thf/14 rng when i farm them (mithra), and they're not too hard. with a centurion's sword, 58 DEX, i have never missed yet. the tree cuttings seem to be as rare as a silk thread drop, and the treant bulbs are there almost every kill. these are good farming monsters, beacause they also drop boyahda moss fairly common, which is used for a quest in selbina, and great way to raise fame. the only thing you should watch out for are their abilities, like blank gaze (paralyze). if you're not careful, this can be devastating. I don't have the best armour, but they can hit ranging from 20-30 (crits 50), but they miss fairly often. if you're a thief, i suggest you start the battle with sneak attack, which can wipe out from 1/4 to 1/2 their health, making it an easy battle. in one fight (i have 499 hp), i usually end with 350+, which isnt too bad. i suggest you start the battle with 75% health just to be safe.

My DRK rocks these things pretty easily, high delay on attacks and they miss often. I was hitting for about 95-100 a hit. However, petrify can really ruin your day, I try not to fight them starting with less than 80% health just b/c of that. Rarely get cuttings, but Boyhada grass is alright and fairly common. ^^

i'd be wary of soloing one of these at 30. they hit pretty dang hard for easy prey and they have a pretty decent amount of hit points.

I'm Currently RDM37/BLM18 and I have absolutly no problems with them. I started fighting them at about 32-33. Just Dia/Blind/Paralyze/Slow them and keep your buffs up.

If yo farm these for like 1 hr, you can mke 20k (well, from what i killed, crawlies, and gobbus) and its easy :). Tree cuttings can net you like alot of gil by putting them in a porcelien pot (dark ore) gobbus have barely any hp, but hit hard and fast. theydrop water crystals, boyando moss, tree cuttings, and dahlias, and treant bulbs. easy farming :0

OK ^^ I plan on growing a lot of Tree Sapplings and well don't want to spend money on the Tree Cuttings. How rare is this drop? Does it drop fairly nice or takes a while to get?

Sorry, some how I got confused and double posted.

OK ^^ I plan to grow many Tree Sapplings and well, I don't want to pay for all the Cuttings. If I hunt Goobbues will they drop Cuttings rarely or is it a common drop?

As Elowan stated, they are fairly spread out. However, when I farm Pashhow for Goobs, I usually stick to G-10 and I-7/I-8. At G-10 there are usually two that spawn there, and their respawn rates are fairly quick (up to 5 mins at times). G-10 also has an abundance of Crawlers that you can kill to try to get silks while waiting for the Goobs to respawn. At I-7/I-8 there is usually one or two as well as Jolly Green, a NM Goobbue. The goobs at I-7/I-8 seem to take a little longer to respawn than then ones at G-10. Again, there are Crawlers around to bide the time. Good hunting :).

They seem to be found fairly spread out randomly in the marshlands - the only places I haven't seen them are RIGHT next to the ponds / lakes, and in the narrow corridors that lead to Beadeaux. Other than that, they seem to be spread about randomly. Starting from the Highlands zone, running towards Rolanberry (North), it's pretty hard not to run across several. Note of course that you may run across a Marlboro or two as well (plus scads of Quadavs, crawlers near the lakes, and the ubiquitous hare-type creature that are everywhere)
