Cerberus in Mount Zhayolm

  • Cerberus spawns at (I-8) in Mount Zhayolm in an area behind the Gates of Halvung (J-7)

Cerberus's Spawn Location
Cerberus's Spawn Location

  • Spawn time is 48-72 hours from the last ToD, or 12-36 hours after a server maintenance when the servers are offline. One hour interval between each window.

  • Immune to sleep and highly resistant to Slow and Elegy (Elemental Seal is strongly suggested in order to get these to land effectively).

  • Highly resistant to magical damage. Melee and Summoner avatars are recommended.

  • Has a draw-in effect.

  • Grants title: Cerberus Muzzler

Cerberus Special Abilities

  • Lava Spit: AoE Fire based magic damage (Circle of effect originates from attack target).

  • Ululation: AoE Paralysis effect (Circle of effect originates from mob).

  • Sulfuric Breath: Single target Fire based magic damage.

  • Magma Hoplon: Self target Stoneskin and Blaze Spikes effect (Blaze Spikes effect can be dispelled).

  • Scorching Lash: Rear cone AoE physical damage.

    • Will only occur when a character has drawn hate from behind it. (Similar to Fafnir and Nidhogg's Spike Flail tp move conditions)

  • Gates of Hades: Strong AoE Fire based magic damage with an additional Burn effect (Circle of effect originates from mob).

    • The Burn effect is exceptionally potent (around 40 hp/tic). Cerberus will only begin to use this move when its hp has dropped to below 25%.

Note: AoE abilities will hit -everyone- within range, regardless of whether you or your alliance have any hate on Cerberus or not.

Historical Background

Cerberus was the three-headed hound who guarded the gate of Hades (in reference to the mob's strongest tp move). He is the offspring of the monster Echidna and the Titan Typhon, and whose siblings included the Lernaean Hydra, the Chimaera, and the Nemean Lion. His role as guardian was to allow all the souls of the dead to enter, but to prevent any from leaving, as well as preventing any living being from entering Hades.

Among the most significant and well known myths regarding Cerberus was the 12th labor of Heracles (Hercules), whereupon Eurystheus, who was given the task of assigning Heracles the labors, ordered him to retrieve Cerberus from Hades and bring him to the mortal world without the use of any weapons.

Cerberus should be in the hound family. He is after all just a giant dog with 3 heads.

Would make sense, since he is also intimidated by the Beast Killer trait.

I can confirm one thing about his family: He's a beast. Our PLD was able to intimidate him with that shield that enhances Beast Killer effect.

Just wanted to point a few things out, I obtained my Algol about a week ago, and I would like to say to a few of the posters:

1. Algol gives you the Triple effect trait, you dont need to have the trait to "enhance" it. I know it doesn't make much sense, but when a weapon "enhances" something, it gives you the trait.

2. Algol gives "Triple attack +3%", not 5.

3. Also, if you ever get the chance to fight the big pup, when he's unclaimed, he howls. ^^. Pretty cool if you ask meh.

Algol's Trait
# May 22 2006 at 8:40 AM Rating: Decent
The Algol is not "Enhances Triple Attack". It is "Triple Attack 5%"...no need to have the trait, the sword itself has it and applies it to you. Kinda like Joyeuse and several other weapons have Double Attack, just worded differently.
RE: Algol's Trait
# Jun 19 2006 at 2:19 PM Rating: Default
joyuese doesnt 'give double attack with different wording', because if you double attack with joy you can essentially haev a max of 4 hits with the one weapon on that turn..
RE: Algol's Trait
# Sep 15 2006 at 12:49 PM Rating: Decent
...OK! If you get a double attack with Joyeuse then you can't also proc the Double attack job trait, thus, you can only ever swing with a Joyeuse twice, not 4 times.
RE: Algol's Trait
# May 23 2006 at 5:32 PM Rating: Decent
<.< wouldn't it just say "Occassionally hits three times" then?
Triple Attack
# May 21 2006 at 4:34 PM Rating: Default
About the greatswords triple attack effect I'm sure that when you have the greatsword equipped and are engaged to a mob u have a small chance of scoring triple attack even thought no job but thf has the trait as big an ******* that SE is i doubt that they would give us a weapon with a trait enhancement we couldn't use.

Doesnt he drop that two-pronged Great Sword to?
RE: cerberus
# May 21 2006 at 11:13 AM Rating: Default
But that sword doesn't even make any sense does it? Triple Attack+? That's a Thf main(Like 55 or 60 I think, so subbing wouldn't work) Job Trait isn't it? And it's only for Pld, Drk, and War I've heard, and hell Thf can't even equip Great Swords. So either this sword has a literally worthless stat or the description is wrong. Maybe it's just me and my noobiness though, is there like some food or something that gives non-Thfs Triple Attack?

I this post is old but I would like to say something in counter to this. Yes Triple Attack is a thf passive ability but if a weapon or armor says say sentinel and is only for mages, sentinel will then show up in there abilities allowing them to use it. So in this case since Algol says Triple Attack +3 that will mean that the pld/drk/war will have a chance to attack 3 times. So no you do not need to sub thf because the Triple Attack +3 is not a latent effect it is something the gs gives.

Sentinel is an ability, not a trait, so you would never get it as a bonus on gear. It could be an enchantment though.

All jobs have Double Attack and Triple Attack, but they are 0%. SE will use "Enhances Triple Attack" when the bonus isn't an integer (like +0.75%) and "Triple Attack +3" when the bonus is an integer (+3%).

Well, My friends said WAR with mighty strikes, rangers, blms, and use summoners to get rid of his stoneskin (diabolos always does 507 with netherblast at 75) 2 netherblasts will destroy stoneskin lol

Blink tanks, whms spaming paralyna, stun its gates move, and no cant be burned, at last 20% i seen a smn 2hr do 200+ dmg and blms agas doing less then 100, pretty much if you got stunners, blink tanks, and whms or /whms you should be good.
oh and a party to watch for the elemental that spawns there.

No, he's just a normal HNM in Mount Zhayolm. He has a spawn window similar to the CoP wyrms (Tiamat, Jormungand, and Vrtra), which is so huge that having a ToD on him is pretty much pointless. It's basically whoever finds out he's up and gets there to kill him first. XD

Nope. It's been discussed on the SMN forum quite a few times now and the general consensus is that he'll just be your average (!) encounterable monster.
He's not got the tell-tale "gleam" of an avatar about him, for one thing (take a look at Carbuncle or Garuda, for example - they seem to be glowing when in use. Other summonable avatars seem to have this "gleam", but Cerberus doesn't...)
RE: Prolouge
# May 02 2006 at 7:30 AM Rating: Good
True, but go fight Diablos. When you fight him, he doesn't have a "gleam" or anything. "Gleam" doesn't mean anything. But like SE has said with Bahamut, Cerberus is already much too powerful to become an avatar. They won't want to limit his strength.

Is this the only mob in its family? It`s about time SE started making unique models for big NMs.

That`s the point, all the wyrms share the same model, just a recolour. Same for all the turtles, all the Behemoths. As far as I know, nothing uses the 3-headed-dog model but Cerberus.

Yeah, if only there were other HNM with unique models.

Maybe one could be put in a desert. A turtle or something.

One could be just outside of Jeuno. The behemoth from the opening movie would be cool.

A dragon would be hot up in the Boyahda Tree.

Maybe some other unique-model dragons scattered around, too, now that CoP is out. They could have sweet names like "Tiamat", "Jormungand", "Vrtra", "Ouryu", and "Bahamut".
