Man I was fairly comfortably soloing these as a 75WHM/37NIN but on about the 4th fight he got the Vampiric root move or whatever and totally mauled me! Spammed 4 of these moves in about 40 seconds couldnt cast or anything and wiped out. Can be easy but then suddenly can turn nasty, now I just need someone to come by and raise me he wiped out my reraise ^^;
Went 2/9 on this, duo 75/WHM/BLM and 75/BLM/RDM. WHM pulled mob out of regen zone, then Repose. BLM gravitied, nuked twice, then WHM Reposed again. Repeat a few more times until dead.
I noticed something interesting about Vampiric Root today. It might swap your buffs with the mob's enfeebles. I had Ice Spikes up, so the Ameretat was constantly paralyzed, and when it hit me with Vampiric Root all my buffs disappeared (of course) and I was suddenly paralyzed. Pain in the butt fight as a 70rdm/blm. That paralyze actually ended up killing me. I do feel that I could have killed it if that hadn't happened, but the paralyze was so strong that I basically couldn't cast anything. Anyone else notice anything similar?
lv75 rdm/whm can solo these without having to convert. im a taru though, so that may play a factor (844 mp pool). bring a sword just in case, because i got it down to a sliver but had no mp to cast anything to save myself D:
Soloing these today as BLM66/WHM33, easiest 120xp/kill I've made in a while
Standard blm solo: sleep/bind/NUKENUKENUKE/repeat (rest during sleep when needed), so long as you keep stoneskin/blink up your ok.
My enfeebling magics @ 212 and no-where near capped (hence some soloing action), but sleep stuck pretty well enough, though somethings I had to try a few times, but for that bind is your friend.
Go the Jody's Acid thingy on 4th kill, not that I need it yet
Appologies, obivously didn't have my thinking cap on.... had my BLM AF on instead which gives +15 enfeebling magic.
so 212 - 15 = 198, so not capped, but no far off either.
Anyway, was easy kill for my, but wouldn't recommend non-mage for a few more levels because these things hit hard and fast, and I'm pretty sure have a drain effect when they do... ouch.
Keep with my BLM motto... GRAVITY - BIND - NUKE - NUKE - NUKE!!
these guys are baby. I went to farm Jody's Acid with a BRD WHM (me) and DRK. You think with a setup like this it would take forever, not at all. Pretty much Sunburst>Guillotine (sp) crazy Burst the Bard followed through with an MB Guys dead.
The Drop on the other hand that took us awhile since GS were manaburning them.
Soloed those as 73blm/whm today. Stoneskin and blink before the pull. Stun >> pull it out of the spwan area. Slepp and bind then nuke IV till bind were off and sleep/bind again.
If you've fought these things you've noticed they have a pretty nasty drain ability. From my tiger pets they drain 40HP a successful attack (100% proc rate) and from my spiders 38HP. When coupled with regen this makes the mob a big pain to fight.
However, I did notice that sometimes I fought them and that the drain did not ever proc. After some experimentation I confirmed the factor is whether or not they are in their spawn area. When they were in their spawn area, no HP drain on successful attacks. When outside their spawn area it kicked in. Move it back into its spawn area and the drain effect then again goes away.
I did not confirm the regen effect as active/inactive in or out of the spawn area, but it could be the exact opposite.
If it is the opposite (regen is active when drain is not), it's not that big of a deal--a single spider and myself rip through these when we fight them w/o the drain effect (assuming no bad breath ^^).
Confirmed today that when they are in the spawn area they have a HUGE Regen, and no Drain ability. When I kited them to the "alleyway" outside thier spawn area, the Regen stopped and thier Drain ability kicked in. You want to make sure they aren't Regening (is that a word? lol) when you sleep/nuke them. Better to have the Drain ability up and just keep Stoneskin up. Got the acid in 2 kills.
These things seem pretty mean. I saw a RNG kiting it around with bolts. Barely survived even though he kept it slept, and I think I saw it's regen going too.
...FFXI addicts see these things while they're drunk.

Yeah, this is quite accurate. Was trying to nuke these things to death for the item for the new Aht Urghan mission when I noticed. However, I noticed something else. I haven't done anything in the way of experiments to determine the actual cause of this, but here is what I did and what I noticed:
75BLM/RDM
Buffed up with Stoneskin, Blink, Phalanx, and Ice Spikes. Rested back to full, which is near 800 with the gear I was wearing. I cast Bind, and proceeded to nuke. I cast Thunder IV, Blizzard IV, and Fire IV. At this point, the Ameratat came unbound, so I ran away a few steps. I took a couple hits for 0 as I did so, and my spikes damaged and paralyzed the malboro. I cast another Thunder IV, but then the Ameratat punched through my Stoneskin. It came down to either sleeping the mob or zoning it, and despite it's crazy Regen, I slept it. I began resting for MP, hoping to get enough to finish it ( the mob was at about 1/8 health ) before it got most of it's health back. As I was resting, I noticed something: It's health wasn't coming back! I couldn't believe my eyes, so I sat for a minute, and indeed, it's Regen effect was no longer in place.
I'm not sure what caused it's Regen effect to come off. It could have been several things:
-Time. It took awhile to kill, but not much. Maybe 3 minutes total.
-Moving the malboro away from it's spawn point. I ran probably 15 steps away before I slept it and noticed the lack of Regen.
-The Ameratat did gain the effect of paralyze from my Spikes. I'm wondering if maybe debuffs cancel the Regen effect.
-The order of nukes. Rather, the type of nukes. I'm wondering if Ice or Fire cancels the Regen.
-The mob's level of health. It's possible that the Regen effect comes off when the mob is below 25% or something like that.
I never did get the drop from these, so I'm going to have to keep trying. If I can come up with something solid, instead of just theory, I'll post it for you guys. ^^
A friend of mine, Yessar a bad *** Samurai on Ragnarok, fought one of these guys. They have a mean Regen and also a drain effect to their already mean attacks. I would be careful when engaging these guys.
