I went through Caedarva Mire omw to Arrapago Reef to get the Corsair job on my 58 Warrior, I was told I could solo it, and I had powders and oils on.I was almost to the Reef when Chigoes aggrod me, now, I've heard and/or experienced them aggroing during either day or night, I couldn't even see them until they aggro'd, so here's my question: Is there a certain time of day they DON'T aggro? Please reply in a forum if anyone can answer that for me, I'd appreciate it a lot. =)

From what i've noticed, these things die instantly when a critical hit strikes them or when you use a WS on them no matter how much HP they have

These little beasties are great for shield skillups (or at least the ones in the Mire are). They hit really fast, for not much damage per hit. As a 75 whm, I developed the following strategy:

Reraise III and Protectra IV or V up. RDM subbed - Phalanx kept up at all times. Food = Squid Sushi +1. No main weapon, use Light Buckler in Sub slot. Drone Earrings, Reflex Rings and Shield Torque (the idea being to lower EVA as much as possible and to increase AGI as much as possible). My whm doesn't have a parrying skill, but I understand fighting these with the right equipment will work for parrying too.

Go out the north Zone from Nashmau and head west until you come to the first open area. If you head west just a bit more, you will come to a spawn point for two Chigoes. I let them both aggro me and attacked one of them. Then I just let them hit me, keeping Phalanx up and using Cure IVs whenever I got to max hp - 432 or less (lol, for once I really REALLY wanted hate ^^). I did not worry about disease, as I would always save at least 46 mp to use Viruna before resting, if needed. If you try to keep from being diseased while fighting Chigoes for combat defense skillups you will use a lot of mp to no real purpose.

Then I would just stand and take hits, until my mp was down to 50 or so and my hp was at about 600, and run back to zone. Rest, rebuff as needed, repeat as needed.

I got to 190 shield skill in next to no time, after which the skillups basically stopped altogether.

Now, I understand the Chigoes in the Thickets and the Woodlands are actually a higher level, and thus I could use them to reach the 210 cap that whms have for shield skill. Question: Do ya haveta fight a Marid to get a Chigoe in these areas? I'm seriously considering having a friend aggro a Marid and zoning it while I pull a Chigoe off it, if I have to. Any other ideas for skilling up shield 190-210 as whm? I really don't want to do this in a party, as defensive skillups depend on getting hit, and I won't get hit nearly as often in a party as I would soloing. Suggestions?

P.S. Words you only hear in defensive skillups: "Damnit, my EVA DOWN wore! ;;"

^^ Enjoy,
Fire
