Vana'diel Bestiary: Eastern Shadow  

I've camped this guy with the approximate ToD. I've heard the spawn is 21-24. So in between, killing spectors at E shadow spawn, I go kill W shadow spectors. W shadow pops, which I had no idea the ToD of. I camp E shadow spawn for hours, and never get pop.

When I go back to W shadow camp w/ the exact ToD. I camp there for 3 hours, killing spectors. W shadow never popped. This leads me to believe that the spawn times were changed with the patch.

Has anyone else experienced the same thing?

to my openion i believe the eastern shadow is the most camped out of all the shadows. now please correct me if im wrong but when i was runing around for fun i saw ALOT more ppl at the eastern shaow's spawn area then the others. i even looked at the others durring there window and still the eastern shadows was more camped. i dont know the others drops exept one drops some pirtty sweet knuckes for mnk.

So wait... I have a question... If the spawn time is around a day does it usually spawn around the end of that day? Or anything over 24 hours?

Alright I camped him the other day with a blm friend and I asked him to let me solo him. I went as rng63/thf25. W/o nin sub i was thinking this would be hard. Well I was wrong, I used 10 sleep arrows sidewinderX2 and barrage all together doing 3000+. When you use sidewinder he gets a hit on you and since i was hitting him a lot with sleeps he had dd ready for me. I dont recomend soloing him w/o nin. I have Ebow+PPA so I was hitting him for about 80-100 with sleep. No drop by the way...3/7

you think a 67 drk, 75 drg, 70 nin, and 70 whm could take this guy?

This guy has around 3000-3200 dmg total. a lvl 60 ranger with sleep bolts does 21-30 dmg. So you do the math if you plan to solo this.

I killed this guy tonight with a lvl lvl 59 Rng (me) a lvl 63 Thf and 64 Blm, not only would the TH2 help from the Thf but all three of us ate Lucky Eggs. Psh some eggs, we ended up winning the battle easily from the thf and I spaming sleep bolts. People are stupid for using sleep arrows. Not I only are they slower but I find them less affective. So we kill it without a scratch and no drop. ; ; By the way he also Drops Revival tree root which went straight into the "Drop" zone.

Alright wtf I killed him again tonight and no drop he spawned after 20 min ; ; /sigh that makes the taru 0/3 and us two 0/2

Alright never thought this would happen but we got the bow...three of them. After three dropless claims he dropped the bow three nights in a row and hasnt dropped it in about a week or two so I've heard. Easy 15 mill in three nights.

Anyone know how many sleep arrows you would need to take him out?

Does anyone have any idea what job this thing is ? It sort of looks like an RDM. Help me out. Lets get a straight answer on what it takes to kill this. That RDM that said he soloed it is full of $%^&. Anyway thanks.

There are 2 specters in this room. One is the placeholder for the eastern shadow. Each specter will spawn approximately 15-16 minutes after it has died. The ranger type is the placeholder for the nm. 15 or so minutes after you kill that, the nm could spawn in it's place, ignore the other one.

The nm was nearly soloable as my 64rng/nin with a lot of sleep arrows. However, it was suddenly on a resistant streak while plugging away. I took a whm with me, and I'm glad that I did. I was unable to sleep the nm for a time, and it hurt me pretty bad. Dimensional death from this thing sucks... bad...

As stated, it's a lottery pop off the rng specter. It's spawn window is 21-24 hours after previous death.

Fought him last night as a 64rng w/ the help of a 67rng, and 64blm. I think Western Shadow spawned or something because all of the JP's had left. (We were skilling up on bats after each spawn.)
We came back after bats and he spawns right next to me. I just popped a Shadowbind on him and we started to go to work. We both just used sleep arrows mostly. He only used Diminisional Death once and that was on our blm after he cured one of us. To make a long story short, hammer this guy w/ sleep arrows until about 30-40% health left. Then pop a Shadowbind on him and go Sidewinder -> Barrage -> Sidewinder -> Eagle Eye Shot. He had about 1/4 health left when I used sidewinder and barrage and he died from it so try out whatever method you want.

Hmm ... well let me speak from experience, since so many posts here say useless things like "A party of ___ should be able to take it" etc. Theory is neat, but it's really not useful.

I solo this sucker at RDM66 (bit of a legend on the server for a few days lol). It was pretty hard, because the arrow shot takes away Blink in addition to his melee damage. He hits hard, and Dimensional Death is brutal. I wouldn't recommend soloing it as a RDM, honestly, because he has the potential to cut through Stoneskin like paper if he gets in his "I want to spam Dimensional Death" mood.

My RNG69 friend solos this as RNG/NIN all the time ... he uses Utsusemi and then attacks it, and uses a Sleep Arrow every time his shadows wear, recasts, repeats.

Now ... with that in mind, as of this morning he has killed this shadow exactly 13 times. I have solo all 4 shadows once. None of us got a single drop.

Because of this, I HIGHLY recommend that you take along a THF or at least a THF sub when you are camping this NM. Because the drop isn't guarenteed, the Treasure Hunter ability will increase the chances that the NM will drop another item, and each item the NM drops has a chance of being the Bow. Trust me, nothing irks as much as getting a Revival Tree Root instead of a million gil bow.
