I had invis on. It attacked me for 0 reason. I was just looking for Hurricane Wyverns for my item for Opo-opo crown and this monster killed me. Later it sucked in a RDM from my alliance from far away for "no reason." It either aggro's or PMS's really bad.

i know theres alot of talk about what this guy agros too... ive heard it agros at night. has true sight. etc etc. well i was just mining here, get to his room to check the point there. as im leaving he agroed from across the room (: was not night time, and i had invis on. so definatly true sight onry. i dont know about the undead thing, but you can easily see that the reason ppl are able to stand next to it is cause... well its true sight.. you have to be infront of it. simply put. give me a screen shot of someone standing directly infront of the ******* during the day or somthin and no agro? then ill believe it ;p

no offense, I think drg's are cool and fine for exp pties and solo.. But probably are the least useful of all jobs for endgame HNM and gods. Main reason is they cant stun, tank, or use a ranged weapon.. thf/rng (culverin owns), mnk/whm (chi), sam/rng...
Undead

Remember, this mob is an undead mob. This means he will aggro to yellow HP. He was not there when I did ZM5. Instead, there was a hurricane wyvern.

This whole true sight debate has kinda got me interested. I agree with the earlier poster who said that some special aggro conditions seem to exist.

I have never been aggro'd by this dragon and have passed across his line of sight with sneak and invis on. However, a blm in a party I was leading through here got munched and he was positive that he had sneak and invis on. I'll probably do some testing on this if I'm in the area and my 2hr is up, kinda curious.

The possibility of a time conditional true sight sounds interesting. And my personal theory (far fetched as it may be) is that if you go close to him there is a chance of one of your buffs (sneak) being dispelled. Although this screenie doesn't seem to support that ;;

Chillin with Ash.

How to beat this nm

This nm isnt too hard. A blink tank is suggested. I tanked it fine as a 75 thf/nin.

Voidsong - Dispelga, removes buffs, shadows and food. Oh and it also does Cursega, so everyone around it will be cursed. Tank should be immediatly given cursan and a cure. Once Voidsong is used, he should be stunned so shadow can be put back up.

Fire Breath - 100-400, so Ash Dragon should be turned away from mages.

Addson - Meele should build TP on addons and use on Ash Dragon. IT might be a good idea to let a blink tank solo tank it while meele build TP on addons. This will give less TP too ash dragon.

PLEASE BE WARNED...This mob is definitely true hearing/sight. Our 75PLD helping on ZM5 run decided to test the theory and as soon as he was in the range of this mob he was "Drawn in". This happened to 4 more alliance members as they tried to pass. All of which were sneaked and invisible. His range isn't very large, but as soon as you cross that threshold, you will be drawn in and taken down fast. He took our PLD out in about 10 hits, and the 71DRK in 3-4 hits with a critical for 486, not pretty....but pretty funny.

He is not true sight. However he DOES aggro *LOW HP* like undead do and sound...and I think he has special aggro maybe if you walk directly behind him? Not sure about that one...But yeah...all of us walked right past him with sneak on no problem.

Was with Speerit (speeritcarby). This Dragoon. Wasn't very difficult, more of a pain in the ***, when he dispelled everyone, over and over again. The Cursna wasn't to hard, to deal with, just Cursna'ed the main tank and CureV.

Meh, took longer getting everyone there than actually killing him.

This dragon is very, very difficult.

First off, i do beleve he has a large HP regen rate.

He uses AoE dispel which removes ALL buffs(if i remember correctly).

He uses a TP move called "Body Slam" which has about a 3 second charge time(i.e. impossible to stun) Kills unbuffed mages instantly - absorbed by 2 shadows.

He is in a room with 4 bombs and 1 wyvern, the 2 tunnels to the side each have 2 bombs.

He hits HARD and FAST.

Strategy:

Do NOT have anyone without blink melee him... rangers stay back, everyone stay back.

Have AT LEAST 2 PT 70+ of the right jobs fighting him and at least 1 PT with good stunners killing bomb links <-- VERY important

His accuracy isnt too great... our 75thf/nin had fun being the last person alive... about 50% accuracy.(no mambo no blind etc.)

If you're a melee without blinks you're probably better off killing bomb links

He has lots of HP - i'd say about 65k ?

After our LS' encounter with him... well...

We call it ash's lair from now on.
Nah

He's not that bad with the right setup. We had a ninja tank and if you have good whm's ready with cursna and rebuffing/healing what he dispels, he's not bad. What had a pld pull the bomb adds away from the dragon way back behind us and the blm manaburned them while we took out the dragon so they wouldn't explode and near us and kill us all.

Full alliance with no crowd control party and we took him down in about 20-25 minutes. I don't think he has regen at all...probably around 60-65k hp or so. It's alot better to use a ninja tank for him with double mambo from a bard + haste. The AOE curse can be avoided by mages and rng by sitting back in the tunnel a little away from him while the tank is the only one that gets cursed...maybe the bard. Body slam was doing about 4-600 dmg to our NIN tank. But YES his WS CAN be stunned. Our BLM are pros like that.

Wouldn't recommend using much other melee on him other than a coouple of tanks. They would sponge too much MP from the WHM's. RNG, a tank or two, and some mages nuking works fine. Melee can also do this if you have them there...Melee the bomb adds and go and WS only on the dragon. That works good. Dropped a dragon talon only first kill. Meh. 36-43 exp for full alliance and like 220 or so gil and a cool title. Killed him 3 times now. Also drops dragon scales, Murasame (haven't got this drop yet) and Dragon Talon for sure. We have not had a heart or blood drop yet.

You could also use any smn's u have to pull out the bombs and kill them off the same way that smn's always solo bombs.

This dragon aggros sound, and only sound. Toss up a sneak and you'll be fine. well...you'll need sneak + invis for the bombs and wyverns in the area, so use both.

Also aggros low HP like I said in the above post. He's not undead necessarily because you can aspir and drain him, but aggros the same as undead.

I think I figured out the deal with Ash Dragon's aggro method, actually.

An expirienced IC miner told me it only has true sight at night. It would explain the "I DANCED ON IT'S FACE" storied versus the "Killed me in two hits while invisble" stories.

I suppose I should test it, though. That'll be productive. -.-;
ZM5
# Apr 04 2005 at 7:22 AM Rating: Default
Doing ZM5 with Linkshell, going though to get to the monument on the other side. This guy is up, which is a real pain. We get close and he turns around, we all know he is true sight, so we run past him keeping as close to the wall as possible. However, one RDM ran right in front of him (I think, didn't see) two hits and he was down. Worst part though, he died in the only place he could not be raised as there were bombs to close ><.

Again, as it's been said many times, the Ash Dragon is NOT TRUE SIGHT. On my ZM5 run I ran in front of this dragon with Sneak and Invis up and lived to tell the tale, and so did 17 other friends, linkshell members, and random pickups.

NOT TRUE SIGHT.

Still, it would be wise to keep your distance anyway. Making him mad in any way is a good way to get yourself owned, and you're so dang close to the end too!

Killed this yesterday, we had 15 people and used a war/nin and pld tank. My ls was bored so we decided to try something new, it took us two tries to win.
Our first try, we got wiped as its nasty aoe and a bomb exploding on us eventually was just too much for us to handle.

Our second attempt we used better placement and were able to win fairly easily, although this probably would've been better with a ninja tank. Dropped only the dragon talon.

P.S. THIS IS NOT TRUE SIGHT. Use sneak and invis and it will NOT aggro. I did this and danced around it and survived.
Haha..WRONG

Wyvern's ignore defense and hit for 30-45 damage every 3 seconds which is more than any melee does to an HNM.
Dragoon with AF helm and +wyvern HP gear can backup heal and spam Cure IV heal breaths for 7 MP and throw a few curaga II +divine seal bombs and super jump hate.

Lets also not forget that a SATA wheeling thrust ignores defense and with +25-30 STR can do 600-700.

Samurai can do 1000+ damage to the HNM wyrms (excluding Vtra, haven't seen any screenshots against Vtra) with 300TP and SATA, there are screen shots out there of it.

Um... actually he is right moron (well... mostly)... Try actually doing some research before telling us DRG about our job.

Pet Wyverns DO ignore defence.

Pet Wyverns DO attack fast.

DRG ARE amazing backup healers.

They CAN heal for 300 to 400+ for 6MP and nearly zero hate using their Wyverns.

They CAN Super Jump hate away.

Weeling Thrust DOES ignore defence.

I know no DRG will be tanking HNM Dragons/Wyverns anytime soon... but they can get a potential of -33% Breathe Damage with HQ gear (26% with NQ gear), have Dragon Killer, and Ancient Circle, which would be nice for soloing some of the lower level, normal mob type Dragons/Wyverns.

#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 30 2005 at 6:37 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hate to burst your bubble, but no DRG is going to be soloing Hurricane or Typhoon Wyverns any time soon. There are really no other "lower level" wyvern/wyrm type mob except for shadow dragon in Xarcabard which is lvl 50ish if that. The rest of the "lower level" wyverns are around lvl 77-80. Those mobs are only soloable by RDM/NIN (I have done it), NIN/WHM and maybe an UBER WHM/NIN like this guy I know named Lyramion who has a Kraken Club and fully merited club skill.

shouldnt flame the drg job.. thf's suck also unless they have great gear. i see sharkbite do 300-400 more then i see it do 700-800. i see drk's do 500-600 only alot =/ does anybody know how often this thing drops dragon talon?
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 30 2005 at 1:16 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) End game is level 75. Lvl 50 has 0 to do with endgame whatsoever. Despite being famed dragon killers, dragoons do jack in an end game HNM/god fight. DRKs have stun and SATA 300% Cross Reaper. Samurai have Meditate and their 2 hr. Warriors can kite and sometimes blink tank. Thiefs have the yummy TH2(or higher). Rangers - always rock. But DRGs... have nothing. You build TP to 300% before fight on a sword, use spirits within at start then sit out for rest of fight. That's it. They are fine in exp parties, but if you ARE looking to end game, DRG is useless.
