Vana'diel Bestiary: Waraxe Beak  

housed this guy as 62 rdm/blm. Key is to keep stoneskin up at all times while poison II, dia II, and choke as well as flat blade keep him at bay. Not that anyone wants to fight him much anymore...but he is still a fun nm :)

damn i heard this guy was pretty tough but not that damn tough >< kinda jus stumled upon this guy as 62drk/31war without looking em up. my ls had told me he was pretty tough for his lvl so i figured wth why not ..... got my tp up to 300% pulled out npc(49/soothinghealer) then casted bio II, came at me and hit me for 80+ then i use guillotine hitting for 1300+ expecting to see at least 1/4 of his life go down but didnt even see his hp budge the smallest bit ><;figured guillotine woulda silenced him but casted graviga and stonega IV right after that and pretty much knew i was dead by then >< npc used cure IV and then i used guillotine again for about 1100 dmg and still barely ne hp gone lol >< then every damn hit after that was a crit for 160+ dmg lol i didnt stand a chance... for a first time jus wingin it, it was pretty damn ugly lol

Give him nice drops and make him alot tougher. I guess he could have been an HNM when lvl caps were low, but now he's a joke.

Was on my way to Sky today on my 75 MNK/NIN when it got cancelled. Being bored, I figured i'd check to see if WarAxe Beak was up, since I've always heard he was a tough little bugger, and even having heard that he wiped a 75 NIN in my LS back in the day. All I can say is..WTF. Stonega IV was hitting me for 150-250 dmg, tops, he missed me as much as he hit me, and the times he did connect, I had shadows up. He petrified me once, but It wore off after him doing about 300 dmg to me. I ended up with a little over 1k(out of 1580 as a hume mnk/nin) when I killed him. Probably one of the easiest "tough" fights i've ever done. If ya want a challenge, go try out the beetle in Batilla Downs, it Insta Casts Stonega IV and hits like a brickwall.

Aru is famous and he's on Quetzy, (not really famous but puts alot of posts on alla)

After leaving Castle O I widescanned (75RNG/NIN) saw this daggerclaw fool so I checked it out. Killed him,no drop.. so I looked him up to see what I was missing and read some storys about people gettin owned by this NM Waraxe. Widescanned again and this Waraxe was up also, I said screw it..
Put up RR, ate food, and brought out my 49 NPC healer. Went over bound him, barrage sharpshot and he drew my in which suprised me. He had np wipeing my shadows cause im a silly RNG. So put on Genbus helm and went at it. He only casted Stonega IV once so that helped. Some dispel's and break's(which I resisted).
After some time and my NPCs help I killed him, got 2 meats and a skin.

I was in the area, helping a friend try to collect giant bird feathers when I saw this NM. I was 66 SMN/RDM (I sub rdm for fun sometimes when I'm screwing around, so no need to flame me on not having whm sub, thanks) and my friend was a 46 WHM/BLM. As soon as I saw it, I told him not to touch it, because I wanted all hate on Carbuncle. I also pointed out where the zone was just in case, and before my friend even moved, Carby went after the NM. It didn't even seem like it had aggroed me, but it must have if carby started fighting without my say so.

So my friend ran toward the zone, and I ran in the other direction so I could get some distance for my next Carby cast. After a few minutes, I see my friend's health going down, and as it turns out, he got raptor aggro. Well he died before I could reach him, so I just stayed in that corner constantly summoning Carby every time I needed to.

As everyone else has said, yes, this thing has a ton of HP. Carby was hitting it a lot harder than it could damage him, and I still had to recast him quite a few times. The tough part about this mob was its ability to draw me in. Any time I had aggro and it was close enough that I could see it on the screen, it would draw me in. This happened three times: Once when I was talking to someone and started slightly late on recasting Carby, once when Carby lost hate and the mob came after me, and once when I got impatient and walked close enough to see the fight, just when it took Carby down with Stonega IV.

Luckily, after each draw in, Carby hit it and took the hate back so I could run away, but two of those times it had already started to cast Stonega on me, one hitting me for around 250 and the second time for 450. The only buffs I had up at the time were Protect and Shell II.

Finally, on my last Carby cast, I got tired of fighting it and saw that its HP was just a little sliver. So once Carby had hate, I ran in and made him use Meteorite, which did around 400 damage, and the thing still had the sliver of HP. So while carby is sitting there beating on it, I decide to finally help and cast every spell I have that can damage it. I maybe took down 100 HP after casting fire, blizzard, stone, aero, and tunder once or twice and I could hardly even see a HP bar anymore, but it was still alive. Suddenly it starts to cast Stonega IV on Carby and I run away, but I know I wont have time or distance to recast, so as soon as Carby drops, I stop and bring out the Fire Spirit instead. Spirit hits it once for 50 points and its down, no tekko drop but i got 23 exp. I think it took somewhere between 10 and 20 Carbys to drop this guy, but I wasn't really counting.

i was walkin around lookin for Dracos while i waited for a friend in my ls so i could show him around Oztroja... so i dismounted my choco and proceeded to murder a few gobs that were standing there looking innocent...(ha ha gobs...innocent..>.>;;) and while i was on my 3rd gob, this guy popped, had no idea WHAT his level was...so i proceeded to cast blizzard on it (me: 44 Rdm/ 19 Blm, Him: 50something Blm) didnt even phase him, but he turned around and nailed me with stonega IV, AFTER i died my linkshell says "Oh! he's about level 70" thanks guys...that's reeeeaaalll helpful AFTER HE KILLS ME!!!

Went for 40-cap Ballista, but noone turned up :\ so I thought I'd make my trip worth while and remembered about an NM in the bottom corner, I headed over as 40WAR/20NIN expecting to see the Raptor NM. As soon as I got there, I spotted this guy. I checked it and got Impossible to Gauge!
I figured that as every mob in the area was Too Weak, he can't be that hard, right? Wrong. He ate my shadows in seconds, then Stonaga IV for 960+ damage. Dead Tatsuki.

His days are numbered on general principle.

Solo'd this bad boy today as 75WHM/37NIN! I went back for revenge after he killed me on THF. Was a tough long fight but if you keep paralyze on him he's not so bad. Kept Stoneskin up at all time so he wouldn't interupt my Utsusemi casting... All that and he dropped and a piece of meat and gave me 15 limit points.

--75drk/nin and a 69blm/whm pretty much wtf pwn'd the thing. It's stonaga IV hit me (drk) only and did... like 200dmg but... it took uts...
--He's incredably annoying... cuz all he knows is -ga's.... Gravitaga, Breakaga, Stonaga IV, Dispelga....
--Breakga hit me once, silsence too but... thats it... he sucks.
--2 Meats,2skin 9exp me 8exp for the blm.

The fight lasted 15min, used convert once, no chainspell.

Entered full buffed with full MP, it wasnt hard, just need to be carefull about stonega IV, with a pretty dead stoneskin and with barstone just dispeled it hitted me for 400dmg >.<, i always used TP to interrupt stonegaIV with flat blade.

Got drop only, 100k but it was a very exciting battle. GL to everyone who try to solo it.

I had just woken up an went to my keyboard cause I had left my game on. Cjkenji was asking if anyone in the LS could come raise her. o.o Ayca said he would but I just had to ask what had happened. She talked about this NM killing her. (RDM73 with BLM sub an no decent weapon skills. o.-) So I went down as well. Ayca an I were both WHM70. So the three of us teamed up an tracked down the NM once Cj was at full strength again. Ayca pretty much tanked the thing. Ayca's club skill is higher then mine giving him access to Hexa Strike. So he was keeping hate thru most of the fight. That thing has a heck of a lot of hp. o.- Took us a good while to kill. I had no mp when we finished since I was playing healer as we wittled away at him. Only drop was skins.

This beast isn't 55, hahaha. I just killed as RDM75/BLM37 with nothing but a hornetneeddle. He's actually very easy, because one can steal mp with aspir or energy steal. He has a ton of hp though, and I took less than 20 hp worth of damage ;x

Solo'd him just now while camping Daggerclaw Dracos.

~ DRG75/WHM37 - The fight was intense, it literally had me at the edge of my seat everytime he casted Breakga, luckily I resisted all but the very last, giving my Wyvern a chance to grab some hate. ( He was at about 25% HP at the time) Then after one last Healing Breath III, he Stonega IV'd killing my wyvern and leaving me at 400HP. I quickly ran back some, Divine Seal + Cure III'd and continued to hit/jump/penta thrust his HP away.

The rest of his spells were all resists and I managed to kill him with one last Penta Thrust. @_@

~ Even though I didn't get the drop, this NM was a great challenge to my soloing skill ^^.

I am a 74 bst about to hit 75 with whm sub and my gaudy harness, what are my chances of me being able to take him down solo using only Courier Carrie jug pets, pet food, and I could 2hr my first jug pet I put against him, what are my odds of winning?


P.S. This would just be for the fun of it only, I don't care if it drops nothing of vaule...

completely owned me.... 48 blm. I saw him, thought I was out of aggro range and was running near the gob campfire at the bottom of the crater when I saw "...starts casting Stonega IV"... so I ran the other way, stopped and started casting Warp.

Warp is like 85% and just about to cast when... "Sharkey gets pulled in"

"...hits sharkey for 250, 200, etc."

Three hits is all it took and I was down for the count.

Wow all you high levels and i thought youd be able to figure it out. He IS a Lv 55 mob but hes not a NM. Hes a HNM like roc. Just extremely sh*tty.

Ok this is so not worth the trouble. I tried him solo as 70 RDM and got owned. Had a friend come as 70 BLm and I tanked as RDM/NIN. We killed it both in the red and less then 100 MP. Got the 50k drop but was an awesome fight.[quote][/quote]

OK, looks like some angry webmaster decided to erase my post, so i will keep this quick and clean. This mob is not lvl 55-56, it is about 64-67. Long story short, I was owning that NOOB NM dragonclaw, and didnt get a drop so i decided to see if War Axebeak was up, low and behold it was. After reading the posts on this page I figured me lv 62rng26thf (for farming) and a lvl 70 rdm could easily destroy this NM, so i call her out. Now, while she is on her way i see a fire elemental and im like yayyyy fire cluster, while im fighting it I have mr War Axebeak in my view.. now my rdm friend is still a ways away... and BAM "Meri is drawn in" . I start screaming for her to help me and i hit "flee" . I get extremely far away and think im good until "Meri is Drawn in" happens again, and etc etc, you cant get away from this mob w/o warping. So now i have Mr Axebeak and a fire elemental(too weak) hitting me. Then the rdm shows up to save the day, thinking hey, its a level 55 NM she can take it easily. WRONG. I am down to like 7 health when she takes the hate(luckily the elemental missed every time) and shes starting the battle with the NM. I drain bolt the elemental to death and im back in the game, unfortunetly STONEGA IV hits my poor mithra rdm buddy for 800+ dmg. Needless to say we got this guy down to about 85% hp left, then i said ok warp. SHE DIES MIDWARP, I hit flee again(obviously doesnt work) and i become level 61rng... this website is amazing i like it, so im not hating on the site, please dont remove my post again ^^.. but this mob is level 64 at least..

I hate this NM...

So here i go with the story part...

I'm farming in merphitaud, getting raptor skins, cockatrice skins, and twinstone earrings. I come down to where this fool spawns to see if daggerclaw is sitting around, and oddly enough, he was...so i commence the fight and take daggerclaw with...reasonable ease...(i got the claws ^^)

After resting to full after that and healing my wyvern, i go down to kill some gobs. When i get down there i see Waraxe...and you know the expression "Curiosity killed the cat."? I didnt listen to it...here's a convo i had with my friend tritant after i spotted this guy

To Tritant - "Waraxe Beak; <Found it!>"
From Tritant - "??? what's a waraxe beak?"
To - "A level 55 NM in Meriphitaud...a cockatrice."
From - "Ohhh, get a screen shot!"
To - "Good idea...."

So i know this thing aggros, so i carefully make my way as close as i want to be...far enough away where i couldnt even engage him. I go into screenshot mode, take one...then i go into first person and take another...

Then the lag came....

I hit the print screen button on accident, to take another screen shot...This screen shot had him TOUCHING me, and i literally screamed like a panzy. I immediately ran away, but apparently, that wasnt the plan

WARAXE BEAK CASTED TRACTOR ON ME!!!

I was drug right back to him, when i had a clean getaway, and he hit me 3 times, each for over 250 damage...and completely owned me.

I would argue that this is, by no means, level 55. I attempted to engage him at level 75 as a BLM and not only did he aggro me, but subsequently decimated me as well. If I had to guess I'd place him somewhere between 65 and 70 based on the fact that most of my debuffs stuck with no trouble. Take care.

I fought this thing last night first as THF71/RNG35... almost died. It casted a Stonega IV and I took 925 dmg. I hit my Perfect Dodge Macro and My Scroll of Instant Warp and got out of there as soon as possible.

2 hours later...

I come back as THF71/NIN35 and was more prepared.
I ate a Meat Mithkabob to start. casted Utsusemi: Ichi at a distance. attempted to SA and unleash from behind, but it agged before I could get it off. It casts Breakga, Dispelga and Gravga.. But those didn't matter cause my shadows would absorb the spell. My only concern was Stonega IV The most dmg it did piercing through my shadows was around 250ish. All I had to do was recast Utsusemi and then switch to my bloody bolts and regain my lost HP. Here's the parcer details of my battle. As you can see, I got off 7x Dancing Edges!
