I used to camp these guys back in the days of my 32THF/NIN16. I could solo them, and I didn't even have Utsusemi back then. The reason I camped them was actually so I could get a Cruel Scythe and sell it...but that never happened(The selling that is. o.O).
I don't see why gilsellers would camp that place, though...it doesn't make sense to me. Either way, if you're 35 or above, these guys are cake. Just watch out for their Dimensional Death WS, as it has been known to lay the smack down on people. :P

Some friends and I searched the ruins for hours, waiting for these damn NM's to spawn, but they never did...now the area is crawling with gilsellers, and you can barely even get a sniff of NM's anymore...it's sad...

convinced my lvl 30 BLM friend to camp bomb king and his doppleganger cronies... found dopple gog twice, died twice.

Got him yesterday night, 40 rng just passing through looking for the stupid cards for the post x-mas quest.A couple of shots then got the drop. not the best drop rate though 8th time i found/fought him. Now 2/8 with the spear, doesn't sell very well either. On leviathan about 6k-7k for it.

Well I go to Ruins in search of Bomb King, Get Gog about 30 mins being there and one hour later get Dio...still haven't seen Bomb King. Does he ever spawn? lol. Anyways Gog drops root and cruel spear and Dio a damn root! Oh well I can use the spear for my DRG in training. :P

Just the weaker of the 2 dopples (again my opinion) As well ive lost track of kills on this guy but i got 3 spears solo from it (not worth the hassle of waiting to sell, only 6-8k if that on sylph server and took me a few repeated times of ah selling) As with the other dopple refer to bomb king for info on the 3 nms in this area. Still 1 of my favs.

This was the first NM i ever had the displeasure of meeting. I was leveling my first char...a 9 thief and fighting the easy cardians for light crystals. I went down the hallway to the doors and decided it wouldnt be a good idea to go further. When i turned around to go back i heard the door open, then i died...156 damage...I saw gog as he went back through the door...I'll get my revenge on him soon...hehe
I just killed him again, got the spear.
I got him today, no drop, my signet had just worn off so all I got was a revival root. I was Lv.30 SAM, with only my Chainmail, he was hitting me for 40-65 damage every hit, he only hit me 3 times. I went to use Meditate, but I used my 2hours instead, I was like "oh well, Enpi --> Enpi = dead".
You all know its hard to solo NM's as a whm...but today, while helping a friend in kazham all of asudden i felt like goin to windy, and this guy by the gate was castin tele-dem, so i asked him if he could gimme a ride, i got off to MEa, started walking towards windy, didnt take choco cuz i thought id kill something on the way...and im jst walkin, and i see this big dhalmel, i didnt quite see his name cuz i was pointing my camera down, i check it, "The Serpopard Ishtar is impossible to gouge!" I asked my LS what lvl is it, but they said {Run Away!}, that was Angelsg btw, so i attack, and i see this 40 rdm watch me and /cheer. The battle was quite easy, given that i was a 30whm, i jst cast a couple of banish II's and it dropped like a sack of pennies. I got the cerulean pendant, Meat, Hide, and a crystal. So ok, i thought WOW, because i am not one of those people that see a NM just randomly walking by.
So, im walking to windy, now im in saruta, just zoned from tahrongi, and i said to myself "Hey, i feel lucky, maybe i should go camp the damn doppelganger Dio" So i go to the Outer Horutoru ruins, i check the first stone wall, nothing, i check the second one, i see a shadowy figure, and walk a little bit closer, all of a sudden the door shuts behind me.It wasnt Doppelganger Dio, but Doppelganger Gog, a tougher version of the mob. The NM being an EP aggroes me, and i start whoopin at it, my poor want did 7dmg 1st hit..."Uh Oh" i tried banish II..only having 180 mp, that did 117 damage, and took out about 1/6th of its hp, that was a bit of relief, but as the time went on and my HP started goin into deep orange, i got scared, and shouted for help, well, lucky me a 30rdm was resting right by me in the corner of the cell, i didnt see him/her because of the damn camera view being constrained when the stone wall shut closed. So the RDm throws in a cureII, a cureIII, and i find myself with 3mp and the monster having about 1/8th of its HP left. I check my TP, and, 124%, ill give it a try, i say ...and then SHLABOW! Seraph Strike, Doppelganger Gog falls to the ground. All i got is a root and a dark crystal.

Found this guy today. Man was he easy for a 39drg/war. I started off the fight with a jump for 141 dmg. hit him with a regular attack for 137 dmg. used high jump for 123. at this point gog got in his only hit of the fight for a lowsy 35 dmg.I finished him off with a 300% Double Thrust for 464 dmg. So far this is my highest dmg ever. all he dropped was a lowsy root.
Which tower are these things in? The North Tower or the Sourth tower?

The first time i met Gog, i didn't expect him. I was looking for the Bomb King & ended up with Gog. The fight went pretty well & he only used that Dimensional whatever WS once [hit me hard for 150 damage, bringing me down to 399hp]. All & all the fight went well & i got the Cruel Spear [i was psyched considering it was the first time i fought him, too bad the spear is a pain in the *** to sell]
8 minutes later Dio spawned [i was fully healed now & had 300tp due to cardians], Dio beat the hell out of me & i even 2houred him [Perfect Dodge]...anyone else feel that Dio is a lot tougher than Gog?

Absolutely. I faced Dio as a 32 RDM and he almost destroyed me. His Dimensional Death was insane and he hit me twice with it. I'm taru, so it was very hurtful.
I came back on my way to Windy a level later and went to give the boys a check. Killed a balloon and Gog appeared next. Nobody else was hunting at the time so I had all the time to put up my buffs before battle (Blaze Spikes, Enthunder, Phalanx) rather than during battle like before (and, I didn't have Phalanx against Dio). Gog was a pushover. He only Dimensional Death'ed once and it missed. Only had to Cure II twice (just to be safe from DD). Didn't get either drop though :(

My first encounter with this fellow was when i was a new player RDM. A fellow RDM who was also new decided it would be fun to show me the ruins. We stumble across this guy, and my new found friend thinks its another player just standing around and ACTUALLY WALKS UP TO HIM AND SAYS HELLO! o_o;
Death followed shortly after for the poor Mithra. I ran....ran like the wind. Still a bit funny to think back on. Such a noob. ^_-

thats some funny ****.. i remember seeing that back when i was noob too, and was wondering why some guy was fighting someone else, and also wondering, how that was possible, then the doppleganger dio attacked me and kill me, there after i lvled all the way to 40 rdm and went back and showed it whos boss =P

Decided to try some alternatives for making gil, and swung on down to the ruins. Took on Gog as a lvl 37 whm/blm without protect or shell. Shock, Banish II, and Cure III, then meleed him to death. Of note: Seraph Strike did a nice 231 dmg at 300% TP. I finished with 349/497 HP and spent 128mp.

Edit: forgot to mention I'm tarutaru and was wearing full RSE gear, got hit for 24, 44, 20, 44, and 31 dmg during the fight.

Haha I now own these NMs. The spawn is definately completely random, as I have had hours without a single spawn, and times with 3-4 spawns in a row!
Anyways, yeah, I used to hunt these with an LS friend or two when I was in my early 20s as a THF. Killed each a good 7-8 times. Got the Spear 3 times, 5 Rings, and NO Scythes(Rarest of the drops, or so it seems).
Anyways, today, my first day back from a 3 week vacation, I decided to camp these guys for a few minutes. You know, old times sake...So the first spawn when I got in there?! A Dopple! I camped them before I left, and not a single NM pop in like 3-4 hours. It was Gog...And I owned him with my THF/NIN, only recasting Utsusemi once. He had horrid accuracy...Or my AGI is just beautiful...But no drop...Just a Revival Tree Root. As a 34 SAM, I totally whupped up up on this guy, as well as Dio. The Cardians only aggro if you rest or sit, and I made a chain of about 15 to pass the time and they managed to take out about 40 hp before I killed them all. Typically, the Doppelgangers would take about 150-250 hp from me, depending on which level they were.
1/3 Dio. 0/3 Bomb King. 0/1 Gog.

The cardians in the room are the two of random type of cardian. So unless you plan on going in there around lvl 10 or below, you have nothing to worry about.
Well you probably know i was complaining before with the lvl thing, but i still do know he isnt lvl 23-25...because if im right hes about 5 lvls above the Bomb King.

At lvl 27 Taru Blm/Whm= I still died...but i can almost kill them (in fact..i did one time when bind never wore off...that was great, and it dropped the spear)
The spear doesn't sell too often on the Valefor server though, i guess it's just like that.
Although bomb ring is quite good :D.

23-25 sounds about right. As a level 34, I got 0 xp one time, 12 xp another time, and 15 on a third, so I covered the entire level range. I can't swear exactly what level they are, but 23-25 seems right.

Well, I can easily say you got owned by him because you're a Mage. Mage's are easily owned when the mob is only 1-4 lvls lower than them. He can be easily soloed by a 27 War/Mnk. I soloed him the other day while hunting bomb king, easy fight, had to use mighty strikes after he used Dimensionaly Death (146 dmg, grr...) No drop, kinda pissed me off, used 2hr to get nothing. Hopefully I'll have better luck with him next time, gonna take on Dio as well.

Hello everyone,
I really enjoyed these stories, and you guys made me appreciate my summoner so much more now. I had 30 mins to kill before it was time to go to work I was on a chocobo and had just enetered East Sar, and instead of going to Windurst I decided to stop at the tower to see if I could luck up on a bomb ring. I entered the tower made a left and the first room I chk,... only a bomb, killed it ran around a bit, came across another bomb. I know it only takies 8 mns for the mob to spawn but i was like forget i, I could be eating Cap'n crunch or something. So I decided to let my summoner rest in the room where I had just killed the bomb. When I came back low and behold I see this Dark elvaan guy, I figured It was a NM so I fought it. I summoned Ramuh who was tagging him for like 30-40 per hit, but all of a sudden i saw half of Ramuh's life drop. I ran so i would have enough time to resummone called out Ifrit this time Killed him no prob, I didnt even have to attck it myself i just typed comman /sit and ate ceral and watched Ifrit and the Dobblerganger battle it out, got the drop, a spear ^^. Eventhough I have no idea how much it is worth, I am happy. This battle was extremely easy.
You guys did answer a few question I had tho, I was wondering what he had did to take away 25% of Ramuah's hp, guess it was the Dimensional Death move. Glad I didnt attack him, even at lvl 30 my taru waru would have died after a hit or two, OMG summoners have no deffense, a WHM can last in a fight longer than we can ^^

i dunno whats up or what but i just soloed this guy as a lev 30drg/thf and the fight went pretty badly. it started well off with me Jumping him,then my wyvern and I smacking the crap out of him with melee(meanwhile he kept missing with his attacks). then at 50% health he pulls out Death Dimension and whacks me for like 220 damage!!! now iam at 315/535 and pretty ticked,so i use double thrust at 125% TP and knock off about 25% of his HP.then he pulls Death again and hits me for like 140 damage. After the fight i had 76hp(his melee finally started to kick in after death #2) AND,i got a dark crystal and a revival tree root! bah! >.<
