Historical Information

In Persian mythology, the Simurgh is a giant bird like creature described as being peacock-like, with the head of a dog and the claws of a lion. Though it is large enough to be capable of lifting and carrying off elephants and whales (see Roc) it is largely considered benevolent in nature.

Linked at times to the mythical Phoenix, the Simurgh is said to be so old that it has seen the birth and destruction of the Earth three times in its lifespan.

Me and my linkshell camped em last night on valevor server. We got there and one WyvernD LS was already there (Gilsellers) so we all spread out stand around the lake for about 30 minutes. Then Simurgh spawns right in front of me I immediatley cast stun...We got em! Everyone runs over and we begin to fight. Everything was going smoothly. The gil sellers were right on top of us trying to lag our tank. WE got it to about half health when all the sudden it goes claimed...Gil sellers stole em from us in the middle of the fight. They kill him and all run away a few ppl call GM. But a ls mate says that crap like that happens. They live closer to the server so they see it faster then us. And so Im guessing it somehow went unclaimed for 0.000001 second and they were spamming Job Abilites and spells on him to claim em. GMs didnt do anything one of them just said it was our fault it went unclaimed. And so the gil sellers got what they wanted. They always seem to find a way to get what they want. Im still not completly sure how they got him but if anyone does know please post.

Its retarded but all it takes is one person to disengage and it goes unclaimed for a moment. I've seen it happen to me and my friends in an xp party. Our THF/NIN (not a good one) disengaged to do Hide + SATA. Suddenly I see it go unclaimed even though there are 4 other people meleeing it. Also if someone was getting some serious lag and the server didn't recognize them as still engaged, it'll do it too. Its unfortunate that the GM's didn't do anything about the gil sellers. There just isn't enough cracking down on them. Everyone talks about how that update in, I believe, Dec. caused AH prices sky rocket on things like the Emp. pin, when in reality if you did away with ALL, not just some but ALL of the gil sellers, the prices would gradually return to a near sensible price. Better luck next time.

YEAH RIGHT!
# Mar 23 2005 at 4:24 AM Rating: Good
58-58 my foot! that's not right at all! I just faught him with 8 people, all lvl 70+ but one who was 67. It took 20 min! He has REALLY high evasion, so if u want to be efficent, you had better be backin' some accuracy. I myself am a 71 DRG, though for this fight, I was invited lastr minute, and dashed out of Jeuno, not knowing what I was up against. Normally, I wear 2 Snipers Rings, Life Belt, and Battle Gloves in case I need that little extra. I didn't have ANY of them, so I was -23 accuracy that I normally have. in their place, I had 2 Tiger Rings, and a Warwolf Belt. I got 100% TP twice in 20 min...and that's with Jump and High Jump as SOON as they were ready, and an Assault Jerkin for the +3 accuracy. Warwolf Belt also has the +5 DEX, so that's another 2.5 accuracy. I missed SO often it wasn't even funny. Well, that's not true. I'm sure Simurgh was laughin'.

So yeah. The moral of the story is this: high level, and LOTS of accuracy. L-O-T-S!

Happy Hunting
-Steerpike

P.S.
Lots.

HNM
# Mar 12 2005 at 10:21 PM Rating: Default
Please do not be deceived about its 58 level. You'll need a full alliance of 65+ to get it down easily. He's similar to Roc (Lv.55 HNM that drops Damascus Ingot and Healing Staff) Dont even bother asking if you could solo him.

My RNG (75) has close to +100 Ranged Accuracy (2x Trailer's Kukri, Musketeer Gun+2, Opt. Hat, R.Necklace, Hunter's Jerkin, Seiryu's Kote, Merman's Ring x 2 (So +93 R.Acc currently)

I simply cannot hit this Bird unless I have a Bard singing Prelude on me. Part me of me wants to say this is actually a trick. He seems really evasive towards Ranged Attacks (Much more than to normal Melee attacks). My daggers hit more frequently than my Ranged do, and the mob IS a bard-type (uses Bard songs). So perhaps since it's a Bird/Flying type (Weak to Projectile Damage), Ranged Accuracy boosting Bard Songs grant you an actual Bonus or something, allowing you to hit him on a regular basis.

Reasons I say this, Even with all my accuracy and sharpshot enabled, my accuracy is roughly 10-15% tops. Now when my LS bard hits me with Prelude (He wasn't even using the +2 Prelude instrument, due to having it in his Mog House at the time) my accuracy suddenly went up to about 90-95%. I don't get that kind of Accuracy boost on EXP mobs that are Lv.82-85. Just a suggestion from a RNG who's fought this thing too many times to count >_>

RACC's roof depends on AGI. If it was +40, then no one would spend more money on RACC. We have +40 past 60 easy.

I have currently +70RACC, and if I drop 4 or 5 RACC using a different weapon, you can see it reflect on the parser.

i kinda agree with u on that. i dont pretend to know much about anything really, as it relates to statistics involving gear/songs, but ive noticed the same thing. ive fought him plenty of times. i normally swap my axes for double hawkers and use ebow. with a brd and double prelude i rarely miss him. and i hit for 300 on average to begin with.
honestly, i dont like tanking HNMs as a rng (obviously) so im kinda up in the air as to whether its a good or bad thing hes so hard to hit. b/c even without a brd (killed him an hour ago, no drop><) i tanked half the fight. and i was hittin 3/10 id guess, as well as missing 3 barrages. landed 5 arching arrows tho. with a brd a double prelude i hit about 8/10.

btw---when i say tank, i really mean frantically trying to cast utsu:ni while being bludgeoned and wasting my whms mp.
Rdm / blm
# Feb 01 2005 at 3:24 AM Rating: Decent
I am only 62 Rdm right now , but i am sure a 75 Rdm / Blm could kill him , if this Mobs dont have High resist against Magic, Sleep... Bind... Gravity... Nuke. Probably will take a very long time or maybe even losing the claim ... but id like to see that.

I pulled this bad boy, and killed it with my Ls. I had an Earth Staff on so he didn't hit to hard but he lullabied me on my kiting expedation. Luckily my LS mates saved me and a lvl 69 pld and a 64 nin tanked him the rest of the fight. It look 20 mins to down, he had a crapload of hp. He didn't hit the pld to hard at all, ususlly for only 59 dmg no Earth Staff. We killed him eventually and boom he dropped the boots. It was a crazy fun time and my LS is so happy right now because of the drop and we beat another HNM LS for him. *note we didn't have a blm for this just 4 sams, a drk and a drg for melees plus one smn with Fenrir. Congrats KorruptionINC!
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 18 2005 at 10:28 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) lol!!! a rdm/nin lvl 75 can take this mob. ive heard on gilgamesh that it has. but is it harder than king arthu. if its not then a rdm/nin lvl can take it. i saw a lvl 75 rdm/nin take king arthu. it was awsome! so if king arthu (the hnm that drops Speed Belt) is harder than this mob then a rdm/nin lvl 75 can for surely take him on.

lol...not possible ^^;, first off it's a BRD and will hit you with lullaby and elegy which will make your recast timer alot higher. When a NIN (or anyone for that matter) tanks this thing, they will need someone with erase. Also this thing has Mighty Strikes and if it does it's attack which takes off all shadow's, it's gonna hurt ^^;.

Used Mighty Strikes on this 8 person alliance last night. They killed it but it got in a hit between recasts of Utsusemi for 200ish damage to a lv75 ? ? ? (pretty sure it was thf/nin).

Just wondering, the estimated level says he's Lv.58 but people also called him a HNM...or is that just because it takes a HNMLS to kill him?

Looking forward to fighting this tweaked out Peryton someday <<; and getting those lovely boots.

Simurgh is lv 58. I know this because of an exp chart. The amount of exp Simurgh gives is equivalent to that of a monster that is lv 58.

Simurgh is considered a lesser HNM on my server, but is a HNM none the less. Simurgh can be Duo'ed very easily with a BRD. BRD and a rdm or blm can kill Simurgh no problem. When my LS used to kill this, we brought 8-10 members. The Bard would sleep Simurgh, and the mages would nuke. Rangers and thieves landed their hits while the mages were nuking and then the bard reapplied sleep. Simurgh should only be awake for a matter of seconds and then slept. Due to the unavailability of mobs to build tp on in Simurgh's spawn area, the mages do most of the damage when using this strategy. It was very boring as a Ranger, especially since I was low lv then (63ish) and missed 50% of my Weapon Skills because Simurgh has amazing evasion. There is only one flaw to this strategy but is only a problem if there are other LS's present there who steal HNM's. A melee must engage to use a Weapon Skill. Once the weapon skill is used the melee runs away to build TP on lesser mobs. The mob can go unclaimed when the melee disengages from Simurgh. We had this happen once and some HK LS stole it from us. They said they got the boots but couldn't show them. We got the pull the next day and the boots dropped... so obviously they didn't get them =P.

To fight Simurgh straight up, you need a 70ish tank, a WHM or two, a RDM or two... and lots of damage to kill it. Be careful of AoE sleep and it should be an easy fight.

Overall a very easy HNM, but always camped because the items it drops are worth a ******** and Simurgh is real easy to kill. So we're back to the core of HNM hunting... winning the pull is more important then worrying about killing it; Get the pull then worry =P Happy Hunting.

RE: a
# Jan 02 2005 at 4:08 AM Rating: Decent
ok... when it says a mob is level 58 that doesn't mean that a PT of level 58 people can take this thing, it's a HNM. It by definition hits like a frieght train, has insane amounts of evasion, and HP that is through the roof. All that level beside it's name means is how much exp you get for fighting it. You see a level 58 PT go after this thing, expect to see dead bodies shortly after. An allience on the other hand is another story. It's like Kirin, a level 90 mob. that doesn't mean you are gonna get 89072350926309873 exp for killing it, just that you need more people in order to take him down. And the more people you have, the less exp you get.

to reply to some of the "i know everythin" ppl
there is no way a rdm can solo this thing, its as simple as that, ive seen 2 rdms together that failed.(got owned on convert) the thing about simurgh is that it has insane eva, say what u want about rdms, they are faaar from being gods.
