ok i go to farm tree cuttings at the area this guy spawns in, i really spend alot of time farming cuz i wanna get the best i can, anyways, i'm 0/18 on this guy, i was thinking if this guy ever drops it, but the only ONE TIME i've missed him he dropped it to the guy that got him, and that guy was a gil seller >.< kinda sucks
i killed him 3 times now as 61DRG/WHM,
1st time i beat it w/o too much dificulty....no drop
2nd time he got 5 crits in a row on me .. i died.
3rd time i ran out of MP luckily the WHM who raised me was still there lol....
0/3 on the sword..
by the way i got 47 and 55 ish exp on both kills

This guy i think is about level 60-65. coz i got 16exp out of him with a lvl70 WAR/NIN =/ Almost killed me though... wasted 3 X-potion and thrown everything at him. WS with a 200TP from the start... 2 houred... ate sushi... in the end i'm left with 200HP =/ not recomended if u're not 75 or a rdm or a nin. Worse thing is to get paralyzed... for a WAR anyway...

No offence, but geez, i'd hate to be in a PT that ur tanking lol, if u couldnt beat him with absolute ease thats sad... Ive soloed him as a 56 MNK with Hundered Fists, and 2 X-Potions... Also soloed him as a 62BLM sleep nuke sleep nuke... it aint pretty but it gets the job done... Btw 0/4

I was in Zi'tah farming (56/23 NIN/WAR) when this bad-boy popped. There were some ppl doing ZM-5, so I thought to get him before they beat me to claim. I started off enfeebling Keeper with Karuyami, Hojo, Paralzye. These stick very well. Then of course keeping blink up while fighting him (Normal hit was for 217 dmg >.<). Otgher than that the only part I faced any kinda diffculty is when he does that Paralyze move, other than that just carry echo drops to cure Silence. Oh and Ive soloed him three times, and Ive got 160xp twice and 100xp once. 0/3 on G. katana too =(
Hehe I was farming cutting trees there the other day and I saw this NM just standing there. I just went it for it, with no information what-so-ever on this NM and it was quite fun to solo this hehe.
I did have to use Spirit Taker to keep my MP up, which is all I needed as a PLD...it was only hitting me for like 30-50 but kinda constantly. I was 70 at the time and it gave me 18 exp. No Great Katana either. =/

Using this EXP Chart, that Mystery Tour uses, everyone's claims point to this NM being level 57.
Use EXP Table B, as it will be under Even Match:

Level range: 61-65
EXP = 50
Level difference: -4
# Changes on the # of ppl
2 ppl for 25 exp = Solo for 43 exp

So, that's just the way I'm seeing it. Though, some things about the EXP chart confuse me - I suppose it could be 57-61.

It does spawn at different levels. I've killed it 3 straight times and gotten 3 different XP levels (36/50/86 I think, it's been awhile.)
BTW it also gave my 120xp at 59 once.

hey guys i just ran into this guy twice today farming with a friend of mine [thf 53]...first time i see him go take this thing head on and get murdered!! even though we got him to about 1/2 health he managed to take us both out quickly after that.. soo i figure to ask my friend [58 DRG] to give us a hand.. so he says ok...we get out there we kill some goobs off and boom he pops..we try to let the Wyvern fight it for a while but that doesnt work out too well so we all jump in and we get his health to about half again and then he takes out the Drg then comes me and finally takes out my thf friend...so guys if u plan on camping this bad boy come prepared...and yes it worth it the Sword is up to 1 mil on my server...later
This thing isnt even even at 65. I still get ~30 exp off him and since i have low def he hits hard. I need to use Shadowstitch to refresh my Utsusemi and Hp with Bloody Bolts.

I Took that guy out at lvl 62Thf/Nin. (36 exp.)
He was cake, just kept using nin blind on him and utsusemi.
Usually takes about 3-5 DE before he falls.

So what lvl should you be to fight this goober?
I'm 0/23 on him so far, the Daihannya drop rate must be very low. I don't know anyone who has ever ot it from him.

Never see many ppl camping this NM. I've killed him about 10 times. Twice I showed up and he was there, about 5 times I popped him within 15 mins and the other times never more than an hour.
On the other hand, I never got a Great Katana, though.
I killed this nm today and got 25 exp from it and 2 moss and a tree cutting. I was level 66 when I killed it, so I think the NM is probably level 58-60 or so. Will probably try killing again soon as it wasn't an overly difficult fight and is in a place thats pretty easy to get to.

i was skilling up in boyadha tree and just capped my evasion and marksmanship. so after i done with that i decided to walk around in zitah and i remember there's a goobbue NM here.. so i decided to give it a try .
after killing placeholders for 15 min this NM popped :)
i hit it with a blind bolt and just went ahead to fight it. Pretty easy at the beginning since it cant touch me and i dun need to recast utsemi until its life got down to 3/4. Sleep bolts didn't work on it coz i tried to hold it till my LS member came. luckily i didn't get hit by phasedown.. and i just recast shadows and use bloody bolts to get life back.
killed it by myself <--- so proud of it :P but it didn't drop the Great katana for me.

Beat with 65DRG/15THF, 28BLM/14WHM and 60MNK/25+THF.
DRG tanked for the first bit of the fight,BLM CureIIing, MNK used Hundred Fists, DRG superjumped, Keeper did AoE Silence, MNK tanked until about 42HP, then hit flee and ran off, DRG killed it with Penta.
2 MOss, 1 Cutting.

I'm gonna guess that its name isn't some vague reference to a fantasy book I haven't read.
Just a note from someone that kills this guy alot...
It will spawn anywhere from level 59-62. At 62, he's a ******. I've never gotten the Katana, and I'm not even going to say how many kills I have.
He's only killed me twice, both at lvl 60 and both times from links and trying to convert with stoneskin up ><

i just killed it, it must be lover then 60-59 i got 25 exp and i am a 62 whm. easy fight, me and a thf friend saw it and took it only i would have to say 3 cure 4 to keep him at full hp and we won with easy
It's not lower than 59-60. You said "you and a THF killed it." You have 2 people and got 25 xp. That puts the solo xp at 50. This means it spawned exactly in the 59-60 range.
With 2 people, this is an easy kill at 58. I soloed at RDM59 (blm sub), and it's about all I could handle (120xp). Good fun ^^

I hate this F'ing thing. I've killed 12 times now and all I get is 2 moss, 1 cutting, and sometimes 12xp. DIE KEEPER!

Found him up all by his lonesome today so I decided to introduce him to the business end of my sword. It took all my MP to keep my HP up but i didn't have to us my 2hour to beat him. Of course he didn't drop the katana, but he did give me my 12th bag of tree cuttings.

The only person I know of who got the katana drop is a taru RDM in my LS on Kujata. SOB sold it for 500,000 gil.
I can tell you that a 58 NIN soloing this thing is not farfetched. I just found it and said "Hey, why not" when I was 55 NIN/ 15 THF. It would have been -much- easier with WAR subbed, but I still managed to kill it with 142 HP remaining. Paralyze was the worst, since i (luckily) has echo drops with me. It dropped 2x Boyahda Moss, 1x Tree Cuttings, 1x Water Crystal. No Katana drop.
Just to let everyone know, This NM aggros, and links.

if i hit him once he would have died but as i was doing drain it said ... is paralyzed and that was it for me. I died. I tried going back but looked in inventory and had two high potions wit me /cry. Well he was kinda hard for a 68 drk/thf
