My friend Scwall and I camped Sozu Rogberry for about a week, with the help of some LS members occassionally. Thanks Calbrone, Kasuke, Godpoing, and Deathdealer for helping along the way.
Early early July 28th at around 5:30 am PST..It was just Scwall and I left...had stayed up all night killing place holders..After about 9~10 hours...We claimed him for our third time and began work. JP and Gil seller parties both counter camping in the room ~ somehow we got claim. Always nice to see, "Dowzer uses Provoke on the Sozu Rogberry." Me being a DRK73 with WAR sub and my friend Scwall THF75 with WAR sub. As the fight started I pulled hate and got hit with a throat stab. Try to turn him against the wall, so you have space to run. So I used Bloodweapon to get HP and TP, got massive hate in return so I gave it a Souleater Guillotine and died..That left Sozu at around ~50%hp. Scwall finished him off with Bloody and Sleep Bolts..Using Perfect Dodge at the same time as Sozu. Easy for a THF to solo, just bring some evasion gear and sleep bolts.
This was the result....

We're on Quetz Server...We'll be keeping this knife, despite the 30-40mil worth. It will hopefully help our linkshell with Sky NMs, Dynamis, and land HNMs.

Interesting story: Me and my THF69 friend have been camping this guy on and off, and we were there, at the exact same time on Unicorn, and got our first of hopefully 2 knives. Although we are still having trouble deciding who gets this one >_>. We are 1/5, btw.
Also if any would be campers are going, you may not want to go with another Thief, this knife is evil. But 2 Thieves can duo this @67, so whatever :)

Wow...interesting, almost kinda freaky that knife dropped on 2 servers at nearly the same time....Congratulations on your efforts, I hope you can work things out with your friend.
This knife ain't evil mann, it's all about how you use it. But I have a lot of trust...as my buddy Scwall who holds the knife, I went to high school with and lives only 5 minutes away. ^^
I don't need the gil from selling this knife anyway, since we don't want to sell it in the first place :)

then ... a 75 thf can solo it!
and i've done it at 72 8 times...getting throat stabbed all the way :/ (little slow at moving occasionally lol) most exciting kill so far was getting throat stabbed 2 times near the start of the fight and fighting with 15 HP... fun -.-;

A few hours ago me and 2 friends were killing for my sam's coffer key and my rdm test me (65rdm) my friend (72pld) and his friend (64whm) were kiling and the whm noticed this NM and we decided to try it not having a clue what ti drops. The campers inside were all afk when it popped and came back right as the pld voked this NM. So after a good 5min or so we kill it no drop so i just log on and see it drops the 45mil item on quetzalcoatl Im now 0/1 but happy because managed to fight a mob who drops a drop worth over 600k Good luck to evryone who fights this NM

Anyone on Seraph camp this thing and could tell me about how camped he is? My THF is only lvl 60 but I will defintely camp this guy someday. The Jeuno AH lists only 3 sales on it, one of which was the owner selling it back to themself just to get on the list. I've seen like 2 people with the knife total. I am guessing no one on Seraph camps it to sell it.

Im just worried that if I am fighting him and he does that throat slash and i try to run from it that im going to lose the claim. Has that ever happened yet to anyone?

As long as you don't disengage you will not lose your claim.
It can be difficult to claim Sozu as Thf/nin. However, you must take into acount that his drop rate sucks. It's a fact that even Thiefs have gone over 100 kills without one drop. Whether you choose to decrease your chances even further just for a better chance to claim is up to you. If you feel you have to much competition with voke, you can always camp as Thf/war and just spam Sleep bolts to kill him.

Just thought that I can share my experience with Sozu. THFs don't really need Utsu:Ni in order to solo this NM. I've soloed him as a lv72 with nin sub. However, it requires you to have capped (or nearly capped) evasion and marksmanship skill.
I had Scorp Harness, Eva torque, Elussive Earrings, Emp Hairpin, War gloves, and Survival Belt to aid in evasion.
Also to aid in sticking Bloody Bolts, I had Ziska's xbow and sniper rings.
He landed few hits on me for around 100 dmg each. But the real move that you should watch out for is Grudge and Throat Stab. It's possible to avoid Throat Stab if you keep distance and run away while it readies the move, but Grudge isn't possible to avoid. It goes to blink and will do 300~500 dmg each. It was quite difficult soloing him as lv72, but it can be done.

Simply turning around will do nothing to stop Throat Stab. You must keep the target unlocked and when you see "*mob* readies Throat Stab." you run like hell. If you're quick enough, you'll get the "*player* was out of range message." Any tonberry can use this, not only Sozu.
Also, it doesn't kill you in one shot. It simply reduces your hp to 5%. So if you have 1000hp, you'll end up with 50. Yeah, almost the same as dying, so stay on your toes.

Muahahahhahah i woke up Sunday morning and was already in Sozu's pop room, so i started spamming voke cause there were 4 other campers and the PH was dead. After 7 mins of spamming voke it popped OMG then turned red. i soloed him wit sleep bolts and prayed for drop. afta about 12mins wit sleep bolts he finally die and now im 1/24 on tha knife :) it makes a thief a real thief.

There is a theory that TH makes the drop rate for knife go down...
I'm 0/16 on Sozu I solo'd him 7 times @ lv70 THF. Yes, Its hard to believe but if you cap your evasion and marksmenship - bring about 3-4 stacks of bloody sleep blind and acid bolts. (Cause you will be there for a while.) You should have no problem. Also bring a reraise hairpin (Raise II) if u have doubts of success. I never had to use mine but I wish I could just see "You find a thief's knife on the Sozu Rogberry". I missed a drop a couple days ago for.. "reasons" I swear I won't let that happen again. Good Luck THFs who try to camp this. It will be a pain in the ***.

ive been camping this NM for the past 6 days, his pops seem completely lottory. One time he popped 1hr and 40mins afta i killed him and another time he didnt pop until 11+hrs. im 0/12 on this knife and it hasnt dropped for anyone since i started camping it >.>
have any other servers noticed a dramatic increase in drop rates of the thief knife? since the update last week there have been 4 dropped on my server alone. 1 of which my friend got. we're now 1/54.
anyways if anyone can find out if the drop rate has increased it'd be nice to know if this was just a lucky streak or what.

Easily soloable as 74 rdm/blm. The only dangerous part is when he lands Lateral Slash. Dropped my def from 450 to 107, and after that his normal shots hit for ~200. Good time to sleep him.
Fight took ~6 minutes. I was going very slow to be careful of course. Didnt have to convert, ended the fight with full hp and 500 mp (taru).
edit // Gave 32 exp, which puts him at level 67.

i am now officially addicted to this NM. i'm 0/6 on this cheap *******. i've soloed it once as a thf72/nin36 with no problems, so i assume this NM can range from an easy prey - decent challenge. the other five times, i fought with another thf75/nin37 and it was a breeze! haha i know a guy, that's amazingly lucky on the knife . . . 2/8 !!! sold it for 25mil and now his gears are souped up. btw, i've waited between 3hrs and 8hrs for it to spawn, so if you decide to camp this, prepare some patient or have something to do while you're camping it.

White Steel is used to craft Odorous Knife.
i saw a 75th/ninf took this guy down to 1/8 hp, then it used evryones grudge and killed the thf. I used eagle eye shot right away to claim it, hit 400+ it didnt die. I hit it 3 more times regular shot with darksteel bolts, and took it down easy. only got a coat, hard to get the thf knife drop.

as for hp, im not sure. it takes me about 8 minutes to solo him with sleep bolts. i do not use barrage. i claim with shadowbind everytime then spam sleep bolts (which work 100% per shot) until shadowbind is up again. then i unlimited shot + slug shot w/ GMbolt, then swap back to sleep bolts and shadowbind him and move away. i continue to spam sleep bolts until unlimited shot is up again and i use slug shot to kill him. i go thru about 50 sleep bolts per kill.
(yes i am afraid of throat stab)

i really hate people who camp this Nm just for the sole purpose to sell it >.> you already now the drop rate sucks ***, so why the Fu*k would you keep camping it, just give up bro and let the thief’s have the spawn, there are like 2-5 thief’s in the room already and i get so fu*cking mad when another job gets the spawn and not use the knife that sh*t ticks me off damn…

Hey, Suck it up princess, thats like saying no one else should camp Argus or the Eastern Shadow unless you're a ranger. Life goes on, learn how to claim better if you're having issues.

ever care to think that maybe they're getting the knife for they're thf on another job? in my case, i would like the knife for when my thf hits lvl 70, its currently 52...but i would have to camp it on my 72rng instead.

I went to the Temple to get the larva from Wespes cause my Nin friend wanted a Hornetneedle. After he got his, me and him along with another thf friend of ours decided to check out Sozu. So we go there and there are about 6 people there camping it already. But they decided to leave and luckily, Sozu popped 10 min. after they left. The set up was Thf/whm (lv62 me), Nin/war (lv62), and Thf/nin (lv71). I couldn't cast any magic fearing that the pot might aggro. We didn't have any trouble and the Nin was able to tank it most of the time. No knife of course XD
Well I was in the area the other day getting lanterns for ZM4. We are there for about an hour, when a thf and whm walk up. We don't really pay any attention, for we are there for the lanterns. They walk into the small room, and literally 3 minutes later I see in the chat log Sozu Rogberry. I had heard the name before, but could not remember drop. We continue fighting and 10 minutes later they walk out. I check the thf and, wtf, Thief's Knife. I asked him if he had just gotten it, and he said yes.
They walked in, 5 minutes later it pops, and they kill it and get drop. That is 25 mil in about 15 minutes (if they ever sell it). It was their first kill too.

I'm from the Lakshmi server. This BST Lorinsertm mpk me when I was fighting sozu rogberry. He's from the EIDM ls, so if you one same server as me and is camping him. beware when you see the BST. I've reported him to the GM already. so hope his account gets banned and all us thf camping sozu be safe and have fair play. I have to post this, because it angries me so much after 3 hours of camping. this bst comes on 15 min and he mpk you to claim the NM? won't everyone feel angry if that happens to them? so sorry if i sound a little selfish or angry just posting about what happen and nothing related to the NM status.
