So yeah, today, I decided to go to on the boat for the first time in a while. All of a sudden, someone on the boat dies, then another, then another. I look up, and there's a Sea Horror staring down at me. Fortunately, it had aggroed someone else, so I got a chance to run for it. So I went out on deck and hid in the bridge while I watched in horror as three more people went down. Then the Horror saw me. This is where I have to ask, since when can monsters OPEN DOORS?!?!?!? The Horror followed me into the bridge, then opened the door to come at me, and followed me all the way to the bottom of the ship where it proceded to kill me, and move onto just about everyone on the ship. So not fair...
At least I make a good lookin corpse...

I was riding on the boat as a lv 33 dark a sea monkey came up so i fought it and killed it there was a low lv watching me after the fight i went and sat with the captin then guess who pops up the sea horror the low lv was still on the dock so the sea horror killed him in 2 hits while the low lv was trying to get in the same room with me thank god it was about only a min till we zoned or i think i would of got stuck fighting it myself

Still never seen this guy...Don't ride the boat much anymore...but I did get killed by it one time...it was first couple times on the boat and I was low lvl..I got on the boat was sitting below deck...went afk to heat up some taquitos...came upstairs and was dead. A friend informed me through a tell that he wiped out the whole place and we eventually got a raise from a high lvl...fun experience tho ^^

Well im walking on the boat with my head held high telling n00bs to watch out for the sea horror and they r like "ok". SO next we set out on the boat and the second the cutscene ends a n00b goes flying up the stairs and lookie who is there a SEA HORROR its kicks his *** and f*cks up everyone on the boat, but im special and i chill with the captain :D
My first and only experience with this guy was when I was lvl 18 and less than 100 away from lvl 19. I was fishing, and while I was waiting to be able to cast again, this ******* spawns right on top of me. I ran away, just thinking it was a Sea Monk, which at my lvl still would've owned me since I was alone. Then I saw it was the Sea Horror, and, since I was already up the steps, I ran into the captain's cabin, thinking it safe there. Haha. He floated right up to the window and slapped me right through the wall, killing me in one hit. X_X After that, a WHM on the boat sent me a /tell saying he'd revive me after it left. A minute passed, and he apparently thought it was gone, since no one else died. He walks out the door, and he to is killed in one hit. At this point, a high level MNK stepped up and started attacking it, and a high level WHM started helping him after a little while, throwing Cure IVs at him occasionally. The fight lasted for what seemed like a long time, but eventually, the MNK killed it. I kept track of the damage that was done to the thing, and from what I saw, it had about 7000 HP. The MNK used Asuran Fists on it like 6 or 7 times throughout the battle. It was pretty cool, even though I couldn't see it, my being dead in the captain's cabin and all. After he pwnd it, the WHM that was helping him went around and revived everyone the Sea Horror had killed. All in all, it was a pretty fun experience, even though I had to regain that lost experience by soloing (since I was determined to hit lvl 19 before going to sleep that night).
I've never seen a sea horror, but man... I really don't want to! And I thought pirates were bad. SINCE WHEN CAN MOBS OPEN DOORS?! Man...That's just nuts.
btw every mob on the ship can open the doors. agro a ship wight and run down below and you'll see what I mean. ;)
AFAIK mobs can glide through doors, but i don't believe any mobs can open em...

These things are not that rare.
Out of my first 4 boat trips, Sea Horrors showed up in 3 of them.
My first experience was that I opened the door to the cabin to go out on deck. I was immediately hit for 444 points of damage and killed.
My second trip, the ride back, I opened the door and saw a tentacle. I shut the door and hid in a corner.
On my third trip, I was rewarded with no sea horrors - only a pirate attack.
On my fourth trip, I saw the Horror once again, this time comming through the door of the captains quarters. Someone attacked it, and I got away - returning to my quiviering hiding spot below decks.
I have since taken two more trips without seing a horror, but these trips still shook me.
I think they are out to get me.

Now this one was pretty funny how it went down. I'm in a pt at Qufim, and I had just returned from zoning a Bashee. I come out the tunnel and see a pt message from a lv 21 monk saying "that's not good." lv 23 war yells at him, "why in the heck! are you fishing here??" Next thing you know, they shout Sea Horror, and they both die within 20 seconds! Monk was not too apologetic at first, even cursed the war for yelling at him. He did apologize later in a tell though.
Moral of the story: Don't fish in high level areas unless you know what might appear!

The monster that you can fish up in Qufim is called a kraken and you should be around level 45 or so to safely defeat the thing (depending on your job).
Thanks for the correction. I didn't see it, just reported what they said. Regardless, the outcome wasn't pretty for the guy that fished it up!
Sorry, but you can't fish up a NM. A Sea Monk yes, Sea Horro no.

This NM owned a lvl 71 PLD and a 69 THF, they were going good, with the sneak attack and such. But until Sea Hrorror used hundred fists, the pld was getting raped by it hits, his cure4 didnt seem to hold it up lol, after that the thief died. Almost everyone was casting Sneak on themselves when they were dead. XD

Bam one hit i'm dead. the sea horror calmly goes down the stairs and kills the newb in 1/8th of a hit.

I did see this guy once, it was on my return trip from windy. some lvl 30 with no armor thought he could protect everyone, and I was lvl 16 so I thought sure let him. He died in seconds, but a (im assuming a pld) with cool armor walked up and took this guy down, but he couldnt raise, I think this was before the cap raise to 75.

i saw some high level japanese guys take it on, they kicked its *** with ease.

One time waiting for pirate raids so I could get a sand charm, this thing spawned 3 trips in a row [so 3 times in 45 minutes ><].. I just stood back and let the JP players kill it while tossing an occasional cure to them ^^

No offense, but could you not see that your caps lock was on the entire time? You obviously pressed shift during your typing.. but had you not noticed everything was in caps already? If somehow you hadn't, please just proofread your posts.. it just makes reading in a thousand times easier. Thanks. ^^
I was running around in Tahrongi as a 23 thief, soloing Dhalmels while I waited for a friend to finish the boat ride and meet me at the Bubu zone.
All of a sudden, I get this tell that's something along the lines of "OMFG!!!!!" and I finish up my fight with a WS, to reply with a simple "What?"
My friend's reaction was "It's the SEA HORROR! It just pwned this WHM I was travelling with! omg, you didn't mention it could open doors!" (I've mentioned this thing to my friend in RL a few times)
The tell the follows was something like "S***!" and I get panicky, thinking it had gotten him.

Well I'm back to doing ninja af3 now. I hope there aren't any sea horrors in the grotto or I'm screwed lol. Anyways yeah gl with this thing >.< .
A ninja soloed it, probably around level 65. It's not that tough. He was only cured from the outside once, and didn't need it.

My first boat ride I encountered this thing. A high lvl MNK/WHM buffed himself up real good, use Hundred Fists, then proceeded to beat it down. Now, the MNK wasnt in good shape either, but I've never seen so many Asuran Fists go off in one battle. Most amazing fight I have ever seen.
Heh...I saw a level 25 PLD thinkin' he's the **** try to solo this....bad move bucko...dead in 2 hits....
I was doing my af2 with these two japanese players... ya know ninja af2 with the nm ghost. So we are killing it and right as we finish this thing pops on board. Me being stupid me attacks it thinking its a sea horror and the lvl 70 pld in my pt is like " nooo". Thing hits me twice for 150 then the pld vokes it. The whole ship runs over and the pld calls for help. Some lvl 73 mnk comes over, a lvl 68 whm and a lvl 60 blm start to attack it. Then in come the noobs. The sea horros uses its area attack about 3 times and the last time he slaughters the noobs lol. Woops! Finally the mnk pulls out asuran fists to finish the job. Most fun i have had in a while lol.

i think i was the most daring with screenies eg: as he bashed away at a mithran walking corpse i stood underneath him taking screenies of me waving no joke for proof /tell mantine (caitsith)

Now ive seen a lvl 75 mnk get his butt kicked by this thing.Fortunately he called for help and the whole boat jumped it and he nearly died but some whms cured him and he lived.My advice would be to never get on deck with this thing lurking unless you have sneak.
So if it uses 100 fists or whatever that ability is called, and you have Ice Spikes up, would that hurt the Horror more than it hurts you? Would that be an effective strategy to consider for someone planning on taking this NM?
Because i've read posts by MNK players complaining about killing themselves by using their ability on a mob when it has Spikes cast on itself.

Well i am a mnk but you hit a lot more than the spikes deal dmg to you. I do about 50 a hit(100 total) and the spikes deal maybe 9 dmg every time. Its a big diffrence but i won't help too much.
i'm gonna have to say this thing aggros by sight or i'm just unlucky. I was standing on the deck and it spawned, i never moved and it aggroed me.

yeah i think you might emitt less noise by not moving, but you need sneak to be totally silent...however i've stood in a corner of the cpt.'s quarters and had him poen the door, fly thru, open the other door, and fly out.
I believe the way it works is you do not have to move in order for it to "hear" you. The only way to avoid aggro from a mob that detects by sound is to have sneak cast on you, or have sneak oil.
In my experience with ghosts, I'd freeze next to them and they attack anyway.
