Just did this on Sunday and went 9/10.

Our set up was 3xRng/nin, 1xThf/nin, Blm, and Rdm or Whm (We had 7 people).

The Blm would run in and Elemental Seal Sleep ga the worm right in front of Flayer. The Thief was spamming acid bolts and the Rangers were going nuts. Whm or Rdm would help cure the DDs when shadows went down and would keep Barstonera up, Blm kept Sleeping and helped heal. Once Flayer was down we backed up to the ramp and killed the worms one by one. Overage time was 15 minutes. Maybe the old style of 6 Blm Ga-ing them still works but this is a certain win. 3 of the fights we lost 1 of the Rng from draw-in Stonega II since the back worms would not be asleep and we still had no trouble finishing this fight in 20 minutes with only 5.

Our one wipe came when the Blm had a problem with a macro and cast sleep instead of sleepga and us silly Rangers ran in to kill Flayer only to get Stonega'd to about 25% health. Blm got drawn in as he tried to cast Devine Seal + Curaga and was killed. It was only a matter of time then.

I did this BCNM earlier today with two different setups: WHM, WHM, BLM, BLM, BLM, RNG; and WHM, BLM, BLM, BLM, BLM, RNG... neither of those worked well.

Apparently with the new update from Treasures of Aht Urghan the worm can pull you from anywhere in the area... including *RIGHT* on the seal. I know because I was running from a failed run and got pulled in and died right before hitting "Run away!" Also you cant sleepga the NM anymore. It's not that you cant sleep the NM... it's that when you cast the spell you sit there casting it forever and the spell never goes off. It'll cast... and just... you know... not finish. The NM has 100% sleep resist if no one knows that.

I did about... 6 runs maybe? The first 5 we did basically the same thing:
2 BLMs were dedicated to sleeping (after 1 or 2 runs was later changed to 1blm) at N and S ends while occasionally nuking. Whms basically had to just sit there and make sure everyone was erased and alive. I dont really know what the RNG was doing cause I wasnt paying attention to him except to keep his HP up. well that failed and the group disbanded because people were arguing. We came back with the second line up and did basically the same thing until our last attempt we decided ***** killing the NM first just try to stay back and kill the Flesh Eaters with Teir II spells... it worked well for the first few minutes but started going horribly wrong when our Taru BLM died in like 1 hit from the NM after being pulled in and from then on it was a slow massacre. No wins. No drops. But a lot of wasted orbs.

Lesson of the day: The Treasures of Aht Urghan update screwed us over.

Someone else please try this and see if it's just us sucking or if this is impossibly hard now... our party leader did this like 6 times in a row before with no problems and like one time with 4 people I think without any trouble. and now she says it's way different. Please reply and post how you defeated it.
The update sucks...

The times I've gone since the update. We had 3 blm's, 2 rng's and a whm. Also gone 4 blm's, rng, and whm. Any way you go, it worked best to have 2 blm sleeping the worms. A friend and I decided to be the sleepers. I targeted left side, while he targeted right side. Other than that, same as before. Just try to pick a worm near the center of your area. If one is unaffected just use regular sleep. Hope this helps and good luck^^

5 BLM's 1 WHM, All together target center worm and cast ES and -ga spells till all are dead but the main one. Then keep casting standard spells till dead. Casting sleep is a waste of time and MP! WHM cures and erases. Barstona helps a lot. MP drinks speeds it up also. BTW - Beat this thing 16 x's in a row!

Beat Odin record with 5 min 33 secs last night using manafont during the last fight.

Way to easy.

Do you think a SMN would come in handy i mean 3 Aerial Blasts to hit the middle guy and AOE hitting the other flesh eaters.
You think this is good or just stick to healing?

So I just came back from doing this BCNM like 6 times with my party, but the last fight was quite the heroic struggle.

Our party setup was (3)BLM/WHM, THF/NIN, RNG/NIN, & WHM/BLM. And yes, my THF/NIN surprisengly did quite well and I did keep up with the RNG. Couldn't Range Weaponskill or use the higher dmg Bolts, but was rarely bound by the worms cuz of ninja's Resist Bind, had high agility/evasion, max marksmenship, utsusemi and had dual weilding archers; don't underestimate THFs with capped marksmenship ^^. Anyways,we're all getting ready to go in on our last orb and one BLM (*cough Killinator*cough) pretended to D/C (who happened to also get Erase on their orb and most likely bailed cuz he said he was tired; he would also watch TV while healing and didn't pay attention to the fighting when our RNG actually DCed and needed to be invited again) So we go in with 5 guys cuz we were all tired and wanted to get it over with. We do fine the first 5 min but then our main sleeping BLM gets pulled in and dies from Franz.

So we're down to 4 guys. Me and the RNG are busy trying to kill Franz while trying to stay alive from the Stone II bombardment, pulling and rasps. WHM Benedictions, BLM Manafonts Franz, and me and the RNG try taking down the rest of the worms. Once Manafont was down and Franz was dead, I had to Sleep Bolt the standing worms til MP was built back to sleepga and raise our other BLM. We started from the front row of worms then worked from one side to the next. Once we got all the worms asleep with bolts and sleepga, our dead BLM was Raised, healing up MP, Sleepga again, I switch to Acid/Blind/Sleep/Bloody bolts, then RNG and I commence the smack down. The BLMs start nuking the last 5-6 worms while I sneak-attack meleed a couple of worms to death. We came out alive from that one with a Scroll:Erase drop, and had 3 min left on the clock before we would have been kicked out, lol.

I hate moochers who leave when they get what they want; beware of them. If we could beat it with our setup and even 4 people in that last round, feel free to try other party combinations. No one likes to feel left out, and don't follow the crowd and assume some jobs and party setups aren't meant for BCNMs. That's just being ignorant. Its not about just RNGs and BLMs. Like Alyssane mentions, you'll never know til you give it a try...

last night we ran this 5x, the last time we cleared it in 16 mins and change, less than a minute off of Diabolos server record. our lineup for it was WHM BLM BLM BLM RNG BRD. BLM cast sleepga on Franz, then we worked him over. after franz died, i started picking off a worm at a time while the BLMs rested (i was the RNG obviously). once they got mp we just focus fired on whatever worm i was targeting, went very smoothly. when there were 6 or so worms left the BLMs all used -ga spells and wiped them. BRD kept up Ballad and kept Hunter's Prelude on me, was no challenge.

Just wanted to post some more encouragement for people wanting to do this without a ton of BLMs or RNGs. My linkshell did this last night 4 times (it ended up getting sort of late by the last, though we showed up with 6 orbs) We went with PLD/WAR, DRK/WAR, RNG/WAR, RDM/BLM, BLM/WHM and WHM/SMN (as these are the jobs we had available to us at that level)

We tried two runs that didn't go the best to feel out strategy, then tries 3 and 4 went off great. Maybe not the fastest run but it went really well. We started out with Elemental Seal + Sleepga and ran in to beat Franz. Once he was dead, we all retreated to the entrance to heal to full. When ready, more Sleepga and we just picked an edge and started working from one side to another. Run 4 we finished with time to spare.

One tip, if you use Sleepga, have the BLM sneak themselves before running in. This buys them the time to not get Drawn In or Bound before the melees can get there.

Loot for the night:
Utsusemi: Ni
Ice Spikes
Fire Spirit Pact
2 Strike Shields
2 Nemesis Earrings
Peridot
Earth Mantle
Gold Beastcoins
Spirit Torque

There may have been a few other things but I can't remember offhand.

So, the moral of the story, don't be afraid to do a BCNM without an "Ideal" group. We're going to clear probably almost 700K or more (haven't priced everything yet) on just two runs. Take your time, work out your strategy and go for it!

Just did this BCNM 2 daysago with the following setup. RNG,RNG,RNG,BLM,BLM, WHM(me).
Was a very easy battle with only one death in 6 times. Drops rates for the 6 times are as follows.

Erase 3/6
Phalanx 2/6
Utsusemi:Ni 1/6
& several other rare items like earth mantle & spirit torque for example.
All in all I was just a spectator in this BCNM since all I did for the most part is Buff up at beginning & keep barstonra up at all times.
Congrats. to Ennvy, Peacefulsunrise, Dimer, Jbell, other rng don't remember :(, & me all of us made at least 180k-200k on Titan server.

Ooooh I love this BCNM, easy and my party seems to be lucky with drops.

The first group I did it with setup was:

PLD(me), RNG, RNG, BLM, WHM, RDM

5 runs, died 4 times -_-; 2nd ranger also pretended to DC, sold all his stuff, funny thing was he woulda made more money if he stuck around :P Watch out for Tiege if you BCNM with him.
I was only getting paid for coming however, which came to be around 99k, not too shabby.

I now have a set party for doing this.

PLD, RNG, SAM, BLM, RNG, RDM,

I have yet to die on it with this group out of 5 runs and we also seem to get great luck too! Made 250k with this group.

I also bring a blink band so I can absorb some hits, sometimes I get lucky and absorb some what would be devastating Stone II's ^^;

All and all it's pretty easy, just make sure if you have a tank, keep them alive ^^;

Haha, no offense, I just can't believe anyone paid a PLD to help them with this. I'd think a PLD would be a little useless when the rest of your party is fighting from a distance.

Actually, it could be a good thing. Since he's up close, the worms that are farther away will be casting the stonegas on him, out of the range of the "squishier" guys like the BLMs. This way, the damage would also be split up.

today my pt set the sylph record of 8 minutes and 58 seconds. the record we broke was 10 minutes and 59 seconds. and we got erase, utsuemi ni, refresh, nemesis earring, fire pact scroll. so yes why go after the steamed sprouts when you get the same items as the worm turns.
we had a brd/whm, 2 blm/whm, rdm/whm,2 rng/war.. well me being a blm i wasnt annihilated. it was a toss up between me and one of the rng being tractored in. i didnt have alot of problems. need to start off by having blms seal+sleepga than have one blm nuke while other keeps track of sleep timer. kill the nm first. after nm is dead blm nuking takes a break to regain mp. and switch back and forth. i will say this and yes i know what your thinking. after nm is dead have blms use their AOE spells.(what about all of that hate?) they are worms and cannot move..the best they can do is ooo stone2 and rasp you to death lol. so have your blms do what they always wanted to do.... NUKE to **** and back. people using the standard bcnm pt formula cant beat our time. too many targets. so hope this helps out anyone who is trying to defeat this bcnm. oh yeah when the fight starts buff... but no need for protect tho.

Would 5x blm/whm, 1 brd/whm work?

- Blm Aeroga/Blizzaga
- Bard Horde Lullaby 1 second later
- Rest for 20 seconds outside cast range
- Rince, Repeat til all mean ole 15 smaller ones are dead
- Cast aero II on Middle til he's dead with same pattern of 20 second rest for cures and MP Regen.

I figure 2 rounds (10 casts) of Blizzaga/Aeroga for the outer ones, and maybe 2-3 (10-15 casts) rounds of Aero II would kill the middle one.

Main issues I see would be if they wake up too early, but if the middle one wakes up, bard should be able to get into foe lullaby distance and sleep him before blms step up (since bard shouldn't have active aggro) and nuke, then Horde Lullaby, and out of distance again.

No BRD, grab the WHM. Just pop a juice and go crazy with -Agas on Flayer Franz, and the rest will fall like dominoes. When all the Flesh Eaters are dead, just go all-out on Flayer Franz. Not many people use this, but this is definantly the superior method.

Nah. Bard is terrible for this BCNM. The clincher in this battle is to take Flayer Franz out first. Black Mage Sleepga is preferred. I ran this about 13/14 times last time And got about 750k individually (750x6 for group)

Well we did it here on Ifrit.
Had a BRD38, BLM39, RDM, WHM(myself), RNG, and DRK.
This was our 2nd time do it. The first time we died quickly when our brd was sucked in early and we didn't get sleep off.

2nd time, BLM used Elemental Seal and Sleepga. Throughout the fight he continued to do this. The BRD used Lullaby and Horde songs. Ballad was always on.
RDM and WHM healed.
DRK and RNG were awesome for this. Lots of damage really quick. It would have made no sense to have had a real tank.

Throught the battle, mages also did some resting and used Melon and Pineapple drinks.
That was our first success. We were so pleased we ended up coming back.

On the 3rd time, I subbed SMN instead of BLM for a little extra mp. We all knew what to do this time, so went at it full force.

Ended up setting new server record 21 minutes, 52 seconds. Sadly no Erase for the WHM. I will go back again sometime.

Did this last night and went 6 for 6 pretty easy except for one time we struggled. PT was Bard (me) 3 rangers, 1 blm, 1 whm. Whm casts barstona i sing kinghts minne 1+2 for uber defence. Me and the blm go in and sleep the front couple of rows while 3 rangers fire away at Flayer Franz. Make sure rangers bring some decint arrows...no woodens. He is key and must die first! With buffs myself or the blm can survive being sucked in middle temporarily. Once boss is dead the rest is simple. blm can start using D. seal waterga and whm can use D.Seal banishiga. I keep peaon 3 on raqngers with hunters prelude when i have time and keep ballad + peaon 3 on mages. If all goes well this battle is cake. The one time we had trouble was when boss sucked 2 rangers and whm in at different times and worms around them got lucky with a few criticals. We almost panicked but me, blm, and last ranger cut a path killing worms to the whm we was smart and casted reraise before each battle. Slowly but surely kept raising each dead member using a few Yago drinks was helpful. Our times were 12-15 minutes and the trouble round took 28 minutes. Only got one erase but 5 Phalanx's. Pretty nice each member got between 200k-450k of drops. Good luck to you all and I hope this helps.

I'm sure they meant to say E.Seal since Divine Seal only helps with healing (or at least so says the description in game). on another note a D.Seal for a cure on an undead is rather effective.

I was the black mage, I started at level 40 , yet i died the first fight and was dropped down.

Once we learned how to keep them mostly asleep, and how to pick them off one by one, it was easy as goblin pie.

No erase..

But out RDM got Phalanx, and I got Ice Spikes.
