they do not aggro sight.

they will detect sound, resting, and probably low HP.

but bats are blind... think about it XD

Bats in real life have good sight actually. However, I've never heard of a bat in-game aggroing to anything but sound.
ouch!!

Entered the tomb with the ??? when I was a lvl 5(approx) warrior and saw a dire bat. Still didn't know how to check yet and decided to walk past it thinking it was just like the mouse bats-big mistake! It immediately aggro'd and hit me for about 350 hp. A quick trip back to sandy and a lesson learned!
They don't all aggro....

I can tell you now that Dire Bats in Newton Movalpolos DO NOT aggro at all. Found this out by levelling BST there at 65.

Possible 53-55 exp pt?
# Feb 15 2005 at 7:04 AM Rating: Default
Not sure if it's possible, but KRT looked like a great place to do some exp w/ these guys, right through the first gate there is a few bats, but after that there is a clean open area where they don't pop, and then an opening where there are plenty of bats to pull (and a scorp Xo) but still, It might be better to fight these things than sickle slash spiders...of course that's IMO

Actually yes they are, they're great! My static tried them as a level 53-55 party. We exped off them until 56-57 when we moved on to beetles deeper in. So at 53-55 Exp in KRT! If you're a THF or RNG you will absolutely love it I swear.

Hard way ^^

Stupid bats delevled me from lvl 40.

I was helping some lvl 9 people who wanted an item from it or something. They told me a small party of lvl 11 people could kill it and given the area I didnt even think to look at how hard it was before it hit me for 270 damage

I saw a huge group of these, so I decided to take a screenshot of them, and they all agro'ed me, causing a huge train of goblins, skeletons, and bats... I'd reccomend staying away from big groups of these :P

Like many above, I, too, discovered that the dire bat exists within King Ranperre's Tomb... the hard way. Being a native of Windurst, I do not yet know Ronfare very well, but I was determined to complete the Grave Concerns quest. I finally discovered the location of King Ranperre's Tomb (my fourth time ever in East Ronfaure; Bigmouth Billy, Waters of the Cheval, Summoner flag to Beaucedine, Grave Concerns). Upon entering, as a 29rdm, I was hardly concerned with the foes I discovered within the area I explored, and finally decided nothing posed a threat unless I foolishly went where all those 70s were going. How wrong I was.

Deciding that the way I was going was the wrong way (which it was not, I later discovered), I turned around and saw this fellow again. When I first saw him, I dismissed him, figuring he was one of those things I just hadn't run into before. What I did not realize was that he was a lot farther away from me than I had originally realized, because he is HUGE. IMMENSE. The size of a quadav. Needless to say, my second time passing him did not go quite as smoothly, as a double attack for 308 x2 dropped me quite handily. Luckily, as my home point was in Selbina, those very same 70s raised me and demolished the bat (though it still took them some bit of effort). Following them to the ???, for safety, I rested while I recovered from weakness (after dispatching several enchanted bones, even in my weakened state). Now, I am not a complete noob. I know what it means when I accidently select a mob underground and it reads IT. I did not follow them. I quickly backtracked, found the grave of King Ranperre, did the steps for the quest, and left. Vowing, as I dashed, never to return until I, too, was capable of surviving this foul foe.
OMFG!

I Was in a group making up some exp, I was 52, everyone else was 54-55. In King Ranperre's Tomb, where you go in the ???. (USE NEAK BEFORE YOU HIT YES!)

Went well, killed for chain 3-4 mostly for 60 or 90 minutes. Then the puller brought back a scorp and an extra bat. Like I had done 10 times before, I ES/Sleep II the bat, and it doesnt stick. The RDM hits sleep. Fails. The BARD ususes Foe Lullaby, resisted. I toss a second Sleep II and now the bat is just pissed off. Kills me in 2 hits. Then the RDM, then the bard.. And everyone just falls one after another.

After the slaughter(gained 6000 exp after the loss), one of my PT was a 75WHM, so he HP, changed and came down, the bats aggro him, and link like hell, killed his sorry but too. I had to go by then, I only had 2 hours... felt bad, even with the death, the exp was great.

Well bats have really high dark resistance, so its hard to get any dark element spell to stick. (you'll also notice you get very little back if you cast drain on one.)
