hi all i was wondering if you thought i could solo this with a 48pal/24war? I don't want to have to spend 8K after losing to find out the hard way...

You could probably solo this at lvl 48 PLD. I've never tried it at lvl 48 but im sure you could.

Just did this solo as a 53 smn / 26 blm, it was a joke. Shiva kicked the living crap out of this guy, plus a couple waterga's from me but she did most of the work.

is it really strange that bombs are weak to fire? I mean think realistically. Bomb + Fire is a very dangerous situation.

Using Parser results, this guy died at 2000hp.
Solo'ed him at 46THF/NIN. Pretty easy fight, opened with Hide+SA then just continued whacking it to bits (I would have Sneaked it again, but my marksmanship was crap, and couldn't land a Sleep Bolt). Seems to have low accuracy (though I did have Emp Hairpin, Battle Gloves and Nomand's Mantle) but when it hits, it hits hard - about 80-90 per shot. Fortunately Utsusemi did not fail me. Took about 4 mins.

Any guess on how much HP this guy has? Also, I know that bombs are weak to fire, but it seems that they would also use fire-based attacks. I fought Dark Spark with my LS and but the higher levels were attacking and I was just refreshing and curing...didn't think to check what magics or attacks he was using.
I figure I can solo it with Stoneskin + Phalanx + Enfire + Barfire/Barblizzard + Refresh. The Morion Worm (lv30) has been folding to me like a deuce before a royal flush but dropping nothing, so maybe I'll try this tonight.

i'm a lvl 52war/nin and i just solod this guy out of 1048hp he only took me down to 600...i didnt even use utsusemi or food or anything...this guy is very over rated... (was hitting me for about 40dmg)

You can get a new one, but you have to head back to Norg, and get a darksteel ingot if my memory serves correct...Hope that helps.

I tried to solo it at 41RDM/20BLM and I could tell that I was not going to win, so I warped out and lost my oriental steel. I've since traded a darksteel ore and got another oriental steel and plan on soloing him again as a 48 or 49. I don't expect as much trouble with him as I've spent plenty of time capping my Enhancing Magic and refining my gear swaps, so my Stoneskin, Phalanx, and Enfire should be more effective.

I buffed with Refresh, Regen, Stoneskin, Phalanx, Protect III, Barfire, Enfire, Blaze Spikes, and Aquaveil. I would have had no problem crippling him with debuffs, but I didn't bother. I don't have Fire II for a couple more levels, so I just meleed him...no nukes. Just recast Stoneskin a bunch...Phalanx, Refresh, Enfire, Barfire, and Blaze Spikes all were recast once.
He did use Berserk twice, and I successfully Dispeled him both times.
He DID attempt Self-Destruct at the very end of the fight, but I got the last hit in just before he blew up so I don't know how much damage it does. Even if he did manage to blow up, it would have had to have eaten through a whole formula full of Stoneskin and Phalanx, so the number would be distorted anyway.

I fought this guy for the SAM quest item as a lvl 36RDM/BLM. I got my @$$ handed to me. I had Phalanx, and Stoneskin up. This guy ripped thru Stoneskin...Phalanx seemed to have no effect. It was a quick fight and I lost the SAM item. Don't try to solo this guy until at least 45.
I solo'd this guy at 41.. Stoneskin, Phalanx, Bar-fire, en-bliz, ice-spikes... And go at it =) Was a fun fight...
Soloed this bad boy at 54 RDM. Wasn't particularly life threatening but the rate at which he hacked away at my HP was a little disturbing. He hit me for between 45 and 64 damage per hit, even with Phalanx, Protect III, and my defensive gear. Not to mention his delay seems to be slightly less that that of my sword. Just make sure to cast Aquavail beforehand if you're soloing as a mage. I forgot and that stopped a few of my fire II's.
Despite what this guide says, the Forger is much more difficult than a lvl 33 NM. I'd relate him to a lvl 40 NM. Not recommended for soloing until lvl 50 for good RDM's, other jobs should either bring a 50+ paladin with them or be above lvl 60.

yeah it does explode, i remember having 16hp after he suicided on us when i was 30monk back in the day :)

Why were you trying to cast Fire II on it anyway?
Wow...just noticed this glaring oversight at alakazham. Contrary to what this site says, the forger along with all bombs are *weak* against fire. It makes no sense, but it's true.
ummm....because it weak to fire perhaps?
Soloed it today 40BST/20WHM used HareFamiliar went from 700hp/157mp to 112hp/42mp.
Fairly easy. 14exp from it with a pet.

Thought I would record my experiance with Forger. Used Fraps. Compressed to DIVX 5 (640x480). About 70 bit on video. Kind of grainy, but you can make some of it out. Hefty at 20 MEGS! Four minutes (including prep time). My Macros wern't organized before the fight so I went manually to the list for most spell casting during the fight.
Solo'ed by RDM49/BLM23. Kind of close at the end.

i did him rdm50 (me) whm51 and mnk31 in less than a minute, with some buffs (blink, stoneskin, enthunder and shockspikes) he only took off 80hp, whm cast barfire on us and shell and prot, i hit him for about 60+ (rdm af1), he hit me for about 35-48 the 2 times he hit me after stoneskin and blink wore off. he got one hit on the monk for 100+ fought him 2 times for items
This thing is 33? uh huh, sure. My ls group tried to take this thing we had two lv 30 mnks, a lv 27 drk and a lv 30 war(me). The battle started out with it hitting the drk for around 131 dmg w/out critical hit. In the end of that battle we had a dead monk and i was dead aswell. This thing is defently not lv 33...

Oh, it's probably level 33. But it's an NM, not just a regular monster. It's going to be a lot tougher than other level 33s.

I would say this guys deadlier than the guardian treant due to its self-destruct, left me (30 blm) with 12 HP left.

Um yeah... NOT 33. I'm a level 43 Paladin, and I threw everything I had at this little... thing. Started out the fight, without any buffs what-so-ever it was hitting me for 47-63 dmg a hit. My DEF unbuffed is some where around... 260? I can't remember... Well then I hastedly threw up a Fish Mithkabob, Protect II and Sentinel, at which point my DEF reaches around 330 or so... once again, I can't remember... It was still hitting me around 30 dmg a hit.
Using my 2 hour and a Yugado drink for MP to heal, I was able to barely pull out the win. (Yes, I was solo) I myself was hitting it for about 40-50 dmg a hit... where on exp mobs I'm usually hitting for 13-24 dmg, so his DEF is crap... but, damn.

A lot of people have been doing the SAM quest lately, I see shouts in Jeuno asking for help pretty often... I usually end up helping out just because I like killing the little bugger, its fun. lol
I've fought it four times... First time it was a little hard, it was a party of 3 lvl 30's and 2 lvl 40's. We beat it no problem, but it did put up a fight.
Second and Third time I was lvl 45, and I used Barrage on it both times for 1k+ damage, which was nearly all its health. So it was a piece of cake.
The last time, which was just recently, I used Sidewinder and killed it in one hit for about 1.5k damage. That, was one of the funniest things I've ever seen in FF. Everyone engaged, and then disengaged like a second later.

Agreed. I can solo NMs that are around levels 32/33 and this is NOT in that level range. I would think this is somewhere in the 40's at least, as the things I level with in Garlaige Citadel at level 49 hit me for just a little more than Forger.

lol this mob is hard, you cant solo it at 30... or 33 as someone seems to think, supposedly 3 42 or so can take it... dont under-estimate this piece of crap, just find a nice player in the area to help you kill it if you are doing the SAM quest... most people in my server are very willing(Kujata) I even would but my highest job is at 30 ^^;

this thing did 120 dmg to me full full armor as a warrior lvl 30, be very careful when fighting this

i'd like to point out that the forger and in fact all bomb monsters are based in ICE not fire hence their weakness to fire.

It's not based on ice either. Bombs are just creatures that are weak against fire, like trees. Ice isn't ineffective when used against them, it just doesn't hit as hard as Fire does.
Word of caution -- do not cast Thunder on any creatures of the Bomb class. Thunder increases chance of detonation by over 75%.

Think of real life w/ their weaknesses. Fire to fuse - Bomb blows up.
