respawn

The ??? appears every 15mins after it is killed. Hope that helps...
RE: respawn
# Jun 12 2005 at 6:04 PM Rating: Decent
I wuz just wondering if there is an item needed in order to spawn it like the morion worm needs or if it is just a point to walk up and touch the ??? to spawn. I might actually take up farming this if it is worth doing.
Fair warning.

You need to trade a Darksteel Ore to the ??? to spawn him, from what everyone says. Other thing is that RMTs camp it pretty heavily - and they're more than willing to MPK for it.

RNG/NIN
# Jun 07 2005 at 2:15 PM Rating: Decent
RNG/NIN can take this worm easily solo'ing. I have a friend that camps this every night who is a lvl 74RNG. Quake, StoneIV, and Rasp are all absorbed through the Utsusemi so no damage is taken there. As for Stonega III that is not absorbed by Utsusemi and can ***** you up. Good thing is that you can recast Utsusemi Ni and or Ichi way before it even uses another spell cause the worm waits about 10secs or so to cast another spell. And this can prolly be solo'd by a RNG/NIN who is maybe lvl 65. Just keep Utsusemi up and run away when it uses Stonega III. That will interrupt its casting. Also it is a 15min spawn after you kill it which is nice just like the Morion Worm. It can drop many Ores and I camped with friend have gotten Tathlum, Adaman Ore, Darksteel, Iron, Silver, etc... I hope this information helps you all out and wish you luck on the Tathlum if you decide to camp this nasty little worm. =P
Additional Drop
# May 21 2005 at 3:17 PM Rating: Decent
This NM occasionaly drops Darksteel Ore as well.
A nice consolation prize. Expecially if it doesn't drop the Tathlum. ^^;

When do you think a THF/NIN could solo this? The only thing that scares me is Stonega III (all others are blinkable) and as such I would bring a Garuda's Dagger and fight on Windsday so the Silence procs more often.

While partying in Kuftal on raptors and goblins i c a rng/nin suddenly run right next to me. Then he says (danger)(worm)and i suddenly see Phantom Worm pop claimed next to me. The rng owns it but forced me and the blm nearer to the melees fighting the gob we were on. Took the rng a couple of minutes to kill it but he does eventually AND gets the drop. Only problem i had was that my party pulled a Gobby Alchemist n it dropped a bomb as soon as it arrived. Me and the blm were forced right niext to the mob cause of the worm and blm got killed ><. Rng was 75 btw.

61 rdm CANNOT solo, my 75 rdm friend with full crimson had ALOT of difficulty.. so a 61 rdm would get owned.

# Mar 31 2005 at 3:07 PM Rating: Decent
its possible that a 61rdm/rng could but would need almost every bit of rng acc in the game that u can wear as rdm. but i do agree with you a 61rdm would probably get owned even if the said rdm got the lowest lvl spawn.

camped this many times. its easy with 2 rngs. not hard when i solo. just need alot of bloody bolts, acid bolts, holy bolts. HP Regen is about 10 a tick. out of the 15 times i fought it, only 1 Phantom Tathlum dropped. last night i fought it with a 68whm ls member. took over an hour because we had a links (whm popped it when it spawned in the middle of the room). depends on where the ??? spawns is best for fight. if you pop if when it spawns in the middle of the room, its hard because every worm that pops will link to it. will go pop it again tonight and post a picture here.

fought this a few times today. tricked gilsellers into thinking me and 2 of my friends were new line of gilsellers so they said a few things to me then left. anyways....This NM is forced spawned by trading a Darksteel ore to a ??? which appears EXACTLY 15 mins after the worm is killed. once you trade ore about 30 seconds later the worm will pop. for those that say "oh i solod this as a 65" i have this to say for you NO YOU DIDNT. we had 2 lvl 75 smn both of them had 1200 mp evokers ring and all other goodies. a rng could solo this if they are 70+ but would require alot of running or luck because this guy likes to use stonega 3 Quake and stoneskin. out of the few rounds we did we got 2 thalium (seems to be 20% drop) about 6 darksteel ores (which we traded to pop) lots of iron mytril. i am not positive he drops gold or adaman ore because it never droppd for us. he pops at the end of the ramp near the axe goblin NM is. also close to the raptor guys and Kuftal diggers.

You can't silence it. Period. No questions asked. I'm a 70 rdm and have killed this thing over 20 times. I have never once been able to silence it. If you think its just because I don't have the enfeebling magic necissary, try it for yourself.

Since i haven't fought him and don't really plan to at least not anytime soon this is only a guess but wouldn't:
Sleep Bolts/Sleep Arrows beat Spells
At least i know for sure on Quake it would work since it takes forever to cast, thus making him a lot easier to solo.

I think you should change the lvl range to 67+ for rangers since I, lvl 67, along with the O bow, had taken out this bad boy many many times. I do damage almost equivalent to a lvl 70, only thing is i might miss a few more. And yes, the only thing to watch out for is Stonaga III, which erases blink, and when you go in close to do Sidewinder, beware of his Silencing move, which you can counter which echo drops, and its Spit thing which lowers your attack drastically. Normally i wait until he's doing a Quake spell or one that takes him a while to cast, then i run in and sidewinder his butt. Can drop up to 300k in goods.

Oh and to add, I don't think any BLM can solo him, since you will need to rest for mp, and he regens like crazy. Maybe if you 2 houred it...?

# Feb 01 2005 at 6:20 AM Rating: Default
wow, lmfao....you don't know much about BLM's do you? or worms either...THINK here for a sec: the worm CASTS magic...BLM's can aspir... {Hmmm.} I'm thinking resting won't be a problem. Especially if you add two more words: yagudo drinks... I've solo'd many mobs my friends said were "unbeatable" at various levels, and i don't think this one would be much tougher at an appropriate level...i usually go in with thf subbed (for the extra chance), but you gotta be a good BLM to do this: use sleep when you can to wait for drains and aspir, stun to stop the big spells, etc (on non-worms, bind often, although here, you're talking about a non-mobile mob)... if anyone should get to claim "we're the best for a specific type of mob", then that is definitely BLM vs. Worm. i miss the days when 5 BLM's would find a WHM and pt for hours wasting worms...hopefully the BLM's out there got that experience, cause those were the BEST parties... anyway, my point: if you're a blm, don't be scared, go get this guy...especially don't let a rng say you can't do it (or a rng who doesn't seem to know much about anything for that matter)...although 61 atm, i guess i won't be hunting it for awhile lol...

Man your so damn wrong I'm a lvl 75 blm and have all the MAB I can have with +1 thunder staff.
I still can't solo that thing without 2hr....

There is no way a lvl 65 blm could have solo it I also have lvl 4 thunder potency.

I agree. There is no way because of it's regen. I've seen my best friend (75 blm) try to solo it. He has Dark magic capped and he still only can aspir around 30-40 mp, which isn't enough. Not to mention that while you were casting aspir and your next spell, the worm probably has already regen'd about 100 HP. Maybe you got lucky, but I doubt it.

Think a black mage would have a fairly easy time of this worm when they're around lvl 70 or would they just get the beatdown from mobs nearby?

It has a very fast HP Regen, I'd say maybe 10 HP a second? Unless you're dealing a lot of damage quickly it can easily Regen HP faster then you can deal damage, and that's why for solo it's probably best to be a decent DD. It gave me a little under 100 exp at level 71 solo (93 exp), so I'm guessing it's about level 70... Since even matches will give 100 exp.

It's pretty easy to solo as a RNG as long as you mind Stonega III's, Utsesumi doesn't absorb it, and just one successful Stonega III can do 1000-1200 damage, 700-800 with Shell IV. Other then that he isn't too bad.

My parser tracked it to have about 5000-6000 HP, but, expect to have to deal about 10000 a fight thanks to the HP Regen, depending on how quickly you kill it. A fast fight (2-3 minutes) you would have to deal around 8-10k damage, and in a longer one (10-12 minutes) around 11-14k.

The reason people say only a 70+ rng can solo it is because the worm uses buffs like stoneskin he also uses quake and stonega 3. Even then the rng uses utsusemi:Ni if he can or ichi and kills it using ranged. The problem with this is if a party is there xp'ing on raptors if you get to close to the worm you will get aggro from him like binding a prey and then somebody standing next to it. You will get aggro i was killed by stonega3 in one party and then our drk in another was killed by quake. The most annoying thing is that these rangers dont even apologize. So my party with drk raised 2 on him we waited his weakness was gone the ranger kept killing it near death it went unclaimed and we stunned it. Took burst tornadox2 usint manafont and aero 2 thunder 2 from me. I dont know why you were not able to silence it at level 70 i at 60 was able to keep it silenced the whole 2 minutes or so that it lasted

Like to add to the drop list. In addition to the listed drops it drops Darksteel ore as well. So in essence, you could possibly get a free spawn for it, assuming you dont get more worth out of the drops than that of a darksteel ore.

i actually was camping with my party the other night in her spawn area.. and a lvl74 rng/nin.. was fighting the worm.. it was a long battle however it was a range fight?? nothing but range attacks.. this ranger went on to fight the worm a couple more times, and successfully defeating the worm a couple more times...

No physical attacks from the worm and Utsusemi > Quake and Stonega3.

I tried to solo this at RDM 70. I was able to spawn it in a place where no adds wandered by. By keeping Blink, Stoneskin, and Barstone up, my defense was perfectly fine. Self-cure required only after Stonega 3. In the 15-minute battle that followed, I basically couldn't hurt the thing. I warped afterward with MP low.

Melee is a no-no here. Nukes would have been bad news because I need MP up for as long as I stay in range. Once I move out of range, the worm heals to full immediately, despite the fact that it is still red (claimed), and regardless of whether I cast Poison II or any other DoT on it.

My question... does this mob have an ability to cure or regen itself, or does the game let the mob rest to full even with a DoT on it?

Edit: One more thing... I have trouble swallowing the comment that a MNK/RDM was able to Silence this NM. I had RDM as main and an Enfeebling Torque, and I could not Silence this mob. I think I tried Elemental Seal as well.

I'd like to post a warning on anyone choosing to exp party near this spawn point on raptors.

The cape/valley/tree were overcrowded so we choose to do raptors in kuftal tunnel.

Things were a little slower here but no problem.

Till a 75rng/37nin shows up to fight the Phantom Worm. She couldnt keep its aggro, bam I get Quaked for 1101 damage. ...

{I'm Sorry}

ok... we recover and go back about our business moving a little further away, she spawns him again and it Quakes our paladin...

{I'm Sorry}

>< I did my best to use the translator to tell her, if your sorry please give us the last two drops.

Unfortunate..

Ive been studying Phantom worm for the past few days, seen many types of people take it out. This rng should have only lost claim when he runs out of view to avoid said spells. Even when he loses claim he has about 5-6 seconds to run up and shoot the thing again. Iunno what your situation was like but the rng should know better if hes tryin to solo Phantom worm.

On the other hand, your party needs to be aware of your surroundings. I know it seems easy to put the blame on that rng, but there is plenty of non agro space in that little area that your pt could have moved to. These types of deaths are easily avoidable when you are aware of other players around you.

I woulda given you something for gettin 2 of your members killed, but thats just me.. Kinda rude to ask someone for "free" stuff. Sorry man, what can you do? Crap like this happens too often :\

P.S. I think im going to try and take Phantom out with my 72blm friend and me, 69bst. Should be interesting.

just saw a mnk lvl70+ soloing it , hit it with Asuran for 970 DMG for 3 times , that mnk was subbing rdm cuz he silenced the worm and was able to cast En-thunder on himself . he killed it very easy . the position I-6 in a small room
RE: mnk solo
# May 30 2005 at 2:08 AM Rating: Default
Hahaha........no. I'm a 68mnk, although I don't ever sub rdm, I do sub whm if I go solo/explore/farm higher level enemies. My silence won't stick on anything higher than 30's, let alone a 60+ NM (though whm was never noted for it's Enfeebling abilities). I won't dispute that he was indeed a mnk/rdm, and soloed it. But did you check his gear? He might have been using a hand-to-hand weapon known as Mage-mashers, which have Additional Effect: Silence. That's the only way he could've done it, he may have tried to cast Silence, but no way would it have stuck, and if by the good grace of god it did, it would have worn almost immediatley.

74 RDM/BLM with enfeebling at 276 with enfeebling torque and elemental seal and silence was resisted. Subbing /rdm and casting silence on this and having it stick is VERY unlikely. I casted silence on this guy over 8 times in a row and none ever stuck. I say its BS that he stuck silence on him. Are you sure he wasn't soloing a cave worm?!?

B/c those are the only things I can see him silencing, IF he's that lucky.
